When you get to her place, she is located in a unit behind a residential house above Aiea High School. I've gotten at least 10 pieces of clothes tailored by Linda and it always comes out perfectly. Unlike other tailors on the island, Linda doesn't judge you when you tell her to tailor clothes in X way. Instead, she will explain that if she tailors your clothes like X, it will likely turn out like Y - and then she leaves it up to you to decide whether you want to go through with your request or not. I like this approach because it leaves the ultimate determination with the customer, but also gives the customer a heads up of "I told you so" if they insist on going through with X alteration. From my experience, everything I've taken to her (blazer, summer dress, pants, mini skirt) takes less than a week to alter. Overall, I highly recommend Linda if you want the job done right the first time. read more

Linda Fujioka has all the qualities you need! But just a heads up... If you have multiple garments to alter, it can get a bit pricey. She operates her business in-home which makes it feel more comfortable and cozy. Linda has a keen eye and is very thorough in every step. She points out all the details and explains reasons why she'll do it this way or that way. I had just given birth recently and needed my clothes to be altered. Linda did an excellent job with making these necessary adjustments to my maternity/postpartum clothing. Turn around time is fairly fast! Linda made me feel right at home while being professional at the same time. During our fitting we spoke upon many things including family. It felt like we've know each other for quite some time now. After a 35 pound weight loss, my son needed just about everything altered. Having gone to Linda back when she was on Beretania Street, i checked Yelp to make sure she was still around. Turns out, she has moved her operations to her home in Aiea. Even though its a little more of a drive, its worth it. Ample amounts of parking in this residential neighborhood and she has all of her same sewing equipment. Same great service (she does such a good job, even on complicated alterations) and the price is reasonable. My mom can't do major work on a blazer, so I had to look on yelp for some good places. Thank you yelp for the recommendation! My new black blazer was too big for me. The length and shoulder width was good, but the sleeves and torso area were too big. The suit made me look fat. I felt like a fool wearing it. I've seen people wear ill-fitted suits and it makes me cringe every time. I "googled" how a suit should fit and I expressed to Linda what I wanted. She pinned up my sleeves and inseams on the back side of my blazer to bring in the torso area. I also had two slacks that needed to be shortened. The pins helped her mark out where to alter and it showed me what it would eventually look like when it was finished. The prices were reasonable. I'm sure her prices may vary from job to job. The hem for each pants was $11. Blazer shortening and torso inseams were a bit more, but it is much more complicated job to do. I believe the prices were well justified. When you go in for fitting she tells you how much it will be, but you don't pay that day. The next week when you pick it up, you pay cash only. If you decide to use her again, Linda will accept local checks. You probably have to earn her trust with the first job. The wait was one week. I expressed that I was in no rush for it. I picked up my clothes the following week and it was perfect. I tried on the blazer and it fit like a glove. She is very knowledgeable in men's coats, despite of all the female alteration reviews. She told me not to put items in the side pockets, because it will flare out and ruin the nice body form. Also she cut off the strings that held the breast pocket closed and the string in the back holding the flaps together. I found my seamstress. I recommend you try her out too. read more

Shortness has its disadvantages...even in petite, dresses too long, neckline and arm holes of tops to low or too big..but thank goodness I found an awesomely skilled seamstress, Linda!!! I had 1 week until a formal event, my gown needed to be altered. Met Linda, told her exactly what I needed, she measured and said come back in 3 days. Linda is great. She is no nonsense and quick. I went in to get a bridesmaids dress tailored and she pinned it up for hemming first. The hemming was $50 because the dress had three layers. I wanted some sort of support for the top so that I didn't need to wear a bra with the open back and she suggested I get a strapless bra or cups and bring them back to her. The extra step was kind of a pain as I went home and back in one day but I was glad she gave me this option. That was $10. Unfortunately, once I tried the final dress on, these ended up coming out anyway as the underwire did not look right with the rest of the dress. She also took in the sides of the dress for $45. The prices were a little high for tailoring but the quality was great. I am glad I found a competent and kind person to go to in the future! read more

In response to Heather K's review, it's a question of whether or not you're used to calling places who aren't native English speakers. It's a bit of a tossup whether you get the stereotypical rude lady vs. the very soft spoken friendly lady. A similar thing happened to me when I called here to get what the business hours were for the place - the response sounded rather rude, but it was more like an "I'm short on time because I'm servicing other people" rude, which in my opinion was perfectly understandable. I took a shot at this place because of the Yelp reviews since the original location was in town (they've moved and are now at Aiea, unfortunately) and as I suspected, their customer service was *way* better when I was there. I just needed a few pant legs shortened - I told them how many inches and that I wanted it hemmed and I was happily on my way. Told me they'd have it ready in a couple days. They finished one day early and were just as friendly and professional as they were the day before. I've come to them several times to have torn pants repaired (let's just say being a big guy there's tears that happen that aren't fun) and oversized pants altered and they've all been great jobs and extended the life of my clothing by several years. I'd say they're priced higher than a lot of smaller shops, but I didn't mind paying extra for the altering as they are quick and professional with it. They take payments in advance for alterations and do not accept credit cards, so be prepared for that when you go in. read more

Lisa is extremely sweet and knows what she is doing. I came in to get my wedding dress altered and was a little nervous about making any tweaks and leaving it with someone. I came in with two girlfriends and waited in a short little line to get my fitting. There are not appointments here. You simply come in and if she is free she will see you. She is popular but does pinning and alterations extremely fast. I picked up and we did a final fitting. Looks great. Please know that she does not do any cleaning nor steaming. I had to take to another location for that. Only downfall is that the shop is on the dirty side. It needs a good deep clean on the carpets. I'm bringin' down the stars here. I don't like writing bad reviews--- usually stick to sharing good news, but I feel like not sharing this is a disservice to the Yelp users. I ordered a wedding dress from a designer in Japan and received it later than it was promised, only 2 weeks before my wedding date, and it was very badly sized for me. The measurements were so off that I didn't think it was salvageable, but my friends encouraged me to take it to a professional before I gave up on it. So I ran to Yelp to find the best local alterations joint and this one had all the stars and rave reviews, so I grabbed the dress and headed over immediately. Linda's demeanor was so comfortable and confident that she had my frown turned upside down in about 10 minutes. She pulled and tugged and pinned my dress and turned me around to face the mirror and THERE-- finally, there was the dress I had wanted! My soon-to-be-hubby even walked in to check on me at that exact moment and saw me in it, and he was just beaming. (Um, yes, we're not traditionalists) He and I were both very happy it was in good hands as we left it with Linda and she said it could be picked up in a week. The day rolled around- only 6 days til the wedding- and I went to pick up my gown. When I walked in, she didn't remember me (that's ok- lots of clients, I'm sure) but also said she didn't have any wedding dresses. I pulled out my receipt and showed her, and she walked back into the hanging room and came back to tell me I must have made a mistake- she had no wedding dresses. I asked if I could come look, myself- and I did, and found it immediately and pulled it out and she said something to the effect of- Oh, it's not really a wedding dress- I thought you had a real one. ? It was white, satin, puffy.... not full length, but... Ok, so she puts it in my hands and tells me to try it on. I do. I cry. It was worse than before somehow. Where it was too big before it was now too small. Where it was too tight before it was now sagging. Worst of all- to shorten the too-tall straps, instead of cutting and resewing them in the middle, they had been cut and pulled at the back which meant the sculpted bust had moved up several inches. I had breast cups sitting at my clavicle. I dried my tears, not wanting to upset the seamstress. I figured she would feel bad about the mistake, and didn't want to make it harder on her. So I got myself together and walked out to let her re-pin, hoping there would be time to fix it all. To my amazement, when I came out she hurriedly said, "There- Much better, right? Fit all better." Theres NO WAY she could have genuinely thought that. I looked sad and ridiculous. I am not a drama queen or all that picky about my clothes or how I look... but if anyone else saw me they would have said something like Oh My God What Happened.... and she (I'm guessing with a lot on her list) wanted me to take it and go. I had to argue with her- point out all the problems. She actually tried to tell me 'a good bra' would make the top fit better. Boobs do not belong on your clavicle, even if there were a Wonderbra crazy enough to put them there. Then she told me that was as good as the dress would get, and a half second later said to leave it with her again and she'd see if she can fix it. No new measurements were taken. She said I could pick it up on Saturday. Well, the wedding was Saturday, and I had ZERO confidence left in her. I was kind of in shock over the exchange, and just said ok and left it there, drove home. Luckily, my friends were there to take me last-minute-wedding-dress-shopping and I found a replacement. After having terrible experience with alterations at Sheridan Laundry (don't go there, ever), I was eager to find another place to entrust with my beloved clothes! I'm your shorter-than-average-but-typical asian girl who loves fashion and shopping. Unfortunately due to my physique, i have difficulty finding jeans and pants that usually fit perfectly. Hence, the constant need to have a reliable alterations place on-hand. Luckily, per all these yelp reviews, I decided to visit Linda Fujioka's and thank God I did! She's terrific! She's definitely friendly and makes you feel comfortable and at home. She told me to try on the items I wanted altered and she did the measurements correctly while also giving her thoughts and suggestions, which were all very tasteful. I've been going to Linda for years. How is it that 90% of the time, I am able to to find a stall out of the three (3) street ones right in front? It must be fate. :) Remember way WAY back when......Frankie B's were all the rage? Linda was the only tailor I trusted to do original hems. She'd somehow cut off the bottom inch or so (if it had distressions or some other neat expensive detail), hem it, and then put back that part. Amazing. I've long since retired all of my beloved Frankies, because sadly, 1.) I can no longer pull any of them on past my mid-thigh, and 2.) as you age you realize that the revealing "lower-than-the lowest of low" cut just is not going to flatter you (at all) anymore. In any case, you don't want to put a pair of $$$ jeans into the hands of just anyone! Trust me. To hem maxi dresses (single layer, cotton) runs about $15. Anything more complicated will get more pricey (double layer, chiffon overlay, etc) Jeans used to run less than $15, original hem about $25. She can insert cups into low-cut or backless dresses also. To-date, I've always received my items back perfectly altered. Pretty quick turn around time (but note: cash or check only...no CC) ...I'm praying that she'll be able to do just as amazing work on my wedding dress!! read more

If you are in dire need of a quick alteration she is the person to see. I needed to take in a dress that had boning, lining, a zipper and princess seams so I went to see her. Linda did a quick fitting and recomended i add in bra cups, which i thought would jack up the price, but it didn't! i wasn't in any rush and expected her to finish in about a week but she called me that day!!!!! To get your pants hemmed...umm..that will be a week. And please pay in advance - cash or check only. OK. OK. In fairness, I wasn't in a rush. But I did let out a little squeal when I asked to have a torn zipper replaced and she told me that "everyone knows to bring in their own zipper" if you want it another color than black or white (the pants were gray). She's also VERY fast, which I think is incredibly important when you have deadlines for altered clothes. A store in Ala Moana actually recommended I see Linda for an alteration. I'm pretty short, so I usually need things altered. I really only visit her when I need jeans hemmed (the original hem of course!) or jackets/coats tailored. Never have a department store tailor hem your jeans. It's usually a lot cheaper there, but the job absolutely doesn't compare. Linda charges $20 for an original hem, but my pants come out flawless -- it looks like the jeans were made just for my dwarfed legs. She's also tailored heavy, wool winter coats for me. They're usually lined with buttons at the sleeves but she always manages to tailor them nicely at a good price. A couple of times I've bought a pair of jeans and waited an entire semester to go back home and have Linda alter them. read more

I got 2 dresses altered there, both orange, both really big (size 10, I'm size 2). So Linda took the challenge and was patient with me while I decide which dress to alter and to return. I ended up altering both because she was so helpful! One of the dress was a real challenge because of its unique design, having a zipper going across in front. Linda did the best she could without taking the dress completely apart. Could it have been done better? maybe, but it was close enough that I was the only one that knows All in all, Linda's work is good, her customer service is very good! I arrived in Oahu the night before a friend's wedding with a suit that I never managed to get altered. I called Linda that night to see if she could fit me in the next morning and turnaround a suit jacket by noon. "No problem," she says. I arrived the next morning skeptical of the quality I'd be getting with such a tight turnaround. She took one look and said I should probably get the pants hemmed as well. "You're the expert," I said. I was out of there in 5-10 minutes. 3 hours later I got a call while catching some much needed sun on the beach. Suit was done and ready for pickup.
