My experience on Base (NOT KENS): I thought taking my military dress jacket for alteration was safe on base, but when I asked the shop on JBPHH to not sew the arm patch into the silk liner they refused. Said that they would not separate the inner/outer sleeve and it would still be 70$ to put the patch on. My experience with KENS: So, I looked around. I called Ken's and asked if they would put the patch on and do it without sewing into the inner layer of the jacket. When you sew a patch into the inner layer it pulls the fabric and makes it look and feel weird. They said no problem. It's more work, but they promised to separate the layers before putting the patch on. She would also extend both sleeves. Jacket was ready the following week. Total cost: $54.00. I'll never take a uniform to base again. read more

I have been blessed with my height from my Asian half of my dna, so I have needed hemming for my pants as long as I can remember. I had purchased some scrub pants for work that were a little too long on me, but the scrub pants were a limited edition color and there were no petite sizes available. I went to the shop right before closing and the nice lady inside still took me in. She measured the length I wanted and she told me to come back in three days. I believe the hemming costs were $10 but since I wanted split hems, it went up to $15. That is not bad! I was very happy with the quality I got back and I would not hesitate returning when I need something else hemmed or repaired. read more

Do not bring your clothes for dry cleaning here. They will give your clothes to someone else and ask you to wait 2 weeks to see if some unknown person will return your clothes. They won't be proactive to find your clothes. They will ask you to wait and hope that someone will return a free expensive silk shirt on their own volition. Apparently they mix up clothes often because they said people usually realize they have the wrong clothes in 2 weeks. read more

I am extremely exuberant about the alterations done to my suits! I found myself stopping by Ken's Cleaners because it was one of the few alteration shops open at 9:00 AM. Upon entering, I was immediately assisted, and Mrs. Kim was able to measure where the imperfections were in the two Brook's Brothers suits I had purchased. Working speedily, she pinned the areas that would be modified, and asked for my input on various portions of the suits. After getting a much more detailed insight on what I expected, she expeditiously went to work on garnering the information needed to tailor these suits. Extremely astute at her craft, Kim perceptively pinned the suit at various areas; finishing in about 15 minutes. Upon finishing the measuring process, she gave me a pick-up date which was 10 days away. At 9:00 AM, 10 days later, I picked up the two suits, and I was exceptionally pleased with the results. The suit had been tailored to my exact specifications, and I am very thankful for Kim's attention-to-detail. This was one of the most facile experiences I have experienced in tailoring suits, and I am thankful for being able to immediately pickup the garments upon arriving. When I found myself in my cousins wedding as a bridesmaid and had gotten a dress ordered for me from online, I immediately went to work on looking for a good seamstress. I knew I'd need someone that would listen to my concerns and needs, but help guide me with their professional opinion. I'm a big girl, so I was also feeling a bit self conscious. After doing a ton of research on yelp and messaging a bunch of places on prices, I decided to go with Kens. I had messaged ahead of time if an appointment was needed in order to get fitted for alterations and was told that I didn't need one, to just show up. Ken's Cleaners is located in Aiea, across from their shopping center with Times in it. They share a parking lot with other businesses, but I had no trouble finding a stall up front. I walked in and was surprised that they were not busy- score! Got greeted with a cute PUPPY and a lady named Kim. I explained that I needed my bridesmaid dress to be fitted as it was too big- EVERYWHERE. She asked when i had needed it by and told me that was more than enough time (I had needed it about 2 1/2 weeks later). I went and tried it on and she went to measuring. I explained that my chest area seemed a bit too high, and the straps also seemed to be too long. Kim always took the time to ask if there was anything else I wanted her to fix and didnt make me feel bad about all of the things I needed done. I had paid more than I had intended to, but it turns out its because its like she has to make a whole new dress. The dress itself was three sizes bigger, so she had to do a little more than the norm. She gave me a receipt and a pick up date. Went back a week later to try it on and it turned out beautifully! I'll definitely go back to her! When I travel I like to bring travel pants with me, those quick drying, hidden zipper pocketed pants that repel water, stay cool, and are super comfortable. I'm not talking about those "I'M A TOURIST" type of pants, these look like normal pants or jeans. Anyway, now that you know that completely unnecessary information, I had 3 travel pants that were pretty expensive but never really fit perfectly. One needed to be hemmed, and two were too wide in the leg and I wanted them to be made skinnier (is that called tapering? I don't know). In any case, I brought them here and in a week they fixed them perfectly!!! And you know, I can't even tell where or how they fixed it, awesome! Believe it or not, I never actually had anything professionally altered before, I feel like the 1%! Or maybe it's more common than I think since they seemed busy, so I feel like the 40%! It should be "Kim's cleaners" lol Anyways, I have a wedding dress that needed some alterations and with my personal request, I wanted a thigh high slit. No one would do it, but this lady said yes!! She truly made my day and two weeks later, she made it so beautiful and made my wish come true! I really appreciate her generosity and kindness. While the other shops made me feel judged and dumb when making this kind of request. This place is small and have a small fitting room for you to try on but compared to the others. I preferred Kim's warm vibe and welcoming. I also have a 7 months old son that I always bring him with me. Kim made me feel welcomed with my son and even walked me out with assistance which is truly nice! You will not be disappointed to come here and she will welcome you with her warm smile.
