I was recently in Dubuque for work and a co-worker suggested Thai food. We found Lina's via Yelp and were not disappointed. We had chicken dumplings, wonton soup, drunken noodles, and I can't remember the exact noodle dish my coworker ordered. Service was excellent. The restaurant was very clean. Food was great! I've never had drunken noodles with "glass noodles" but that's now my new preference. I will return without question if back in the area. read more

Nice little place tucked away that I think is underrated. The first time I decided to come here was because Dubuque lacks any good fast food noodles. So I had their Pad Thai and it was delicious! I was excited to learn they also have sushi, I now come here often with my family just for that as I feel it's the best sushi in town! The plating is beautiful and the food is delicious here. The last few times we've gone we have received a complimentary salad, which is pretty good. I generally eat only high-quality food (organic/local/etc.) and so have had a hard time of it since moving to the Dubuque area. I rarely go out to eat because most restaurant food around here is so intolerable to me. This actually is one of the better restaurants that I have been to in Dubuque and I have been here on a number of occasions. The main problem that I have with it is that the meat quality is poor. If they were to source higher-quality meat, that would improve things a lot. Mostly I try to find things on the menu that I can have prepared with just vegetables and no meat at all, because the quality of the vegetables (though I doubt they are organic) is not too bad. So at least I can find some things on the menu to eat, even though that is not an ideal solution for me. The food preparation is reasonably good. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant and the service has seemed fine. It is hard to say that I am a "fan" of the restaurant when they are using industrialized meat. That is not healthy, not kind to animals, and does not taste good. But with regard to the non-meat dishes, it is not too bad, for Dubuque. I've been to a few Asian restaurants in other towns where they have provided a choice of quality meat at an upcharge. I would eat here a lot more often if this restaurant were to do that. read more

There is no picture as I was very hungry and the food didn't last long. I had the Kung Pao and an order of egg rolls. The food was top notch, my only gripe was there wasn't enough, I wanted more! The portion was good, dinner size, I was just hungry. The Kung Pao was very good, not overly spicy and the egg rolls were FANTASTIC! (I shouldn't have eaten all 4, but I did!) Stopped during an ice storm for a bite to eat. Was really impressed with service! Lunch menu was comprehensive but we ordered off the full menu. Miso soup was good, egg rolls were good, too! We had a yellow curry and pad thai so they were pretty standard, simple dishes. Both were really yummy! The restaurant was very clean and staff was helpful! I was there with a wheelchair user and the staff jumped to the doors to open them for us. It's not necessary but incredibly helpful and not many restaurants with double doors have staff go out of their way to open both sets of doors. They scored points for kindness in my book! I have had many spring rolls and all were fried. These summer rolls were uncooked and had horrible texture and were difficult to eat gracefully. My husband found this place with good reviews on Yelp, so we decided to give it a shot. We are not big eaters, so we ordered just one lunch meal to share. We got the Kung Pao noodles with chicken at spice level 3 (they had 1 to 5). It was very good. Spice was just right for our taste. If you are not the kind that likes spicy food, you may want to stick to 1 or 2. The tang was perfect, veggies were done well, chicken was also good. It came with a side of white rice. It was quite filling for us. My husband later ordered chicken dumplings also, just to give it a shot and they turned out quite yummy too. The dumplings came with vinegared and grated carrot and lettuce, and soy sauce for dip. All in all, a very satistctory meal. If you're in the area, you should give it a shot! read more

I've been here a couple of times, and each time the food takes forever to come out to you. A couple weeks ago we waited 15ish minutes for a server to even approach us in a rude manner. 40 minutes for food to come out, and just last night waited probably 25-30 minutes. It wasn't even busy, so I don't understand why it takes so long. Their menu's aren't clear as to how a dish is prepared. I wanted a nice sushi roll. I asked about the Las Vegas roll which said "Tempura salmon, tuna and yellowtail fired to a delicious golden brown, topped with chef's secret sauce" I asked the waitress if each piece of fish was tempura to which she assured me yes. I've attached a photo of how it came out. It doesn't even look like a sushi roll. The fish itself is not "tempura'd" the entire piece is deep fried in batter. Which was not clear in the description, as I assumed just the pieces of tempura fish were "fried" not the entire roll. It's not even served or prepared like a "sushi roll" very disappointed in the lack of description and expectations. I had told the waitress I wanted to send it back and I was not paying for it. She had said I could get another roll, but that she'd have to charge me because "her boss isn't going to let her take it off". Absolutely not..you can go talk to your boss and tell them to come out. However, the waitress WAS super kind the entire time and she did get it corrected. We didn't take anything out on her and we think she did a fabulous job at correcting the situation. read more

After reading the reviews, was really excited to give this place a try. Didn't start well, with an unmanned hostess station where we stood for over 5 minutes before someone ushered us to a table. We then had another wait for our waitress and another much longer wait for the food. The restaurant was not filled to capacity yet it felt very understaffed. So, maybe we didn't order the best dishes available, but while our sushi (spider roll) was attractively presented, it was bland. The mango coconut fried rice was similarly bland. Nothing spectacular, and despite being listed as "spicy" it wasn't really spicy at all. More flavorful than spicy. I was impressed by the sheer number of vegetables used in the dish. Usually you order a curry and it's more sauce than substance. Not here. Good-sized portion of fresh veggies. Lina's is the only place I know of where you can get decent Asian cuisine in the Tri-state portion of the Driftless. It's just not the Thai I know and love. If I could get really good Thai food in Charleston IL and Dothan AL, I should be able to get it in Dubuque too. read more

Once again, we decided to try someplace different and we were happy we came here! Atmosphere: the restaurant has an open, yet intimate feel to it. The lighting is just perfect in giving that effect. The entire restaurant was clean and comfortable. We liked the look of the restaurant as soon as we stepped through the doors. Staff: we were seated promptly and brought our drinks in very short order. They were very polite and attentive the entire time. Food: We ordered a California roll appetizer which came out quickly. My girlfriend ordered the glass noodles with chicken and I ordered Pad Thai with beef. The California roll was good. My girlfriend absolutely loved her meal! The Pad Thai was very good, though not the same as I'd had in several different Thai restaurants. We may have to order separately next time so I can have them a little more spicy. Mussels were cooked perfectly every visit. This time we tried the sushi and Lena's Bistro roll was beautiful and delicious. Texas Cowboy roll also was great. Joe, the man who has served us each visit, is attentive without being obtrusive and very helpful. I'm so glad I stopped in and tried this location. The food was delicious. I had the convo fried rice and it was the best fried rice I've ever had, there was a hint of sweetness that really made it stand out. I also had curry chicken, I asked for my servers recommendation of curry style and he said the Pad? Sorry I can't remember the spelling but it was the only one with mushrooms. Was recommended to me by the hotel front desk I was not disappointed. I had Sushi and combination fried rice. The Roll would have been plenty but I wanted to also try the rice. Everything was great. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because they have no small portion of Fried Rice so you have to order a full order which is plenty for even 2. Finding a place to sit for a nice meal is getting harder. Found this place while in Dubuque this past weekend. Service was not good. Ordered sushi rolls. Had to wait for dipping dishes since they weren't provided prior to our order arriving. Besides a variety of regular sushi roll ingredients, the roll we ordered (it was named after the establishment) listed that it also contained avocado and lettuce. And wow did it contain lettuce! ewww. And there was no avocado to be found. The amount of lettuce was similar in size as an entire California roll, yeah THAT much. It was like eating a salad, not a sushi roll. We spoke with our server and checked the menu to be sure what it listed as ingredients. She was unconcerned and not apologetic. She said "well, I'll just have to trust you that there was no avocado". We were done eating by then and I had picked the "salad" out. She never came to check on us at any time or refill our water (my #1 pet peeve with servers). Keep in mind this was 3:00 pm and there was only one other table with customers and they were being served by another waitress. We will not be back. Hopefully our usual restaurant will be open for dine-in next time we're in town. Ichiban's is always an enjoyable experience. read more
