There are some pretty brutal reviews out there on Google for Lin's Claypot Rice. It seems like a lot of it was customer service related. If the claims are true, they totally deserve them. However, on my end, I can only speak about my personally experience and the lady at the cash seemed plenty'soeadsnt. Keep in mind, I did not request for anything extra, so feel free to form your own judgement.
For a food court Claypot rice place, the food quality is pretty good. The claypot rice had good rice aroma and the burnt rice at the bottom was done almost to perfection. There was a small section that was slightly burnt, but I think they did a great job overall.
The chicken was tender and well marinated (you can quibble a bit on quantity), but definitely not of the free run chicken variety. The preserved sausage and meat were alright. Not the best, since it lacked a bit of wine aroma and the rice did not get as much flavour transfer as I would have liked. One thing I don't like is that they added preserved vegetables to the rice. I'm not generally a pickled anything guy, but I thought the flavours affected the intended Claypot rice flavour. The Chinese idiom, "drawing a snake with leg" comes to mind here. If I visit them again, I would ask them to leave the veggies out. However, I liked how they have a few bok choys with the rice so that you at least feel that you are having a slightly more balanced meal. I forgot to mention that they did create their own concoction of soya sauce and it was not overly sweet like a lot of places. Solid.
Yes, you do need to pay a $5 deposit for the claypot when you pay for the food, but I don't understand why people are making a fuss about it since you will get your money back if you bring the pot back. Unless someone decides to go all Greek on the claypot, what exactly is the issue?
Lin's is a solid addition to the FMP food court. This will not be my last time there. read more
