a plate of food on a table

Great service and delicious food at a reasonable price. Will return for sure. The staff is always on top of things and very helpful.

Too bad this picture isn't scratch and sniff.

I'm starting out with two stars but that could change when the food gets here. When I first walked in I had to compete with three teenage girls giggling and talking to each other. One of the girls was lounged out on a booth seat and the other two were behind the register counter. Great, these are the employees. The two girls behind the counter were too busy talking about getting detention in school to pay attention to my order. One girl made me show her on the menu and tell her the number of each item I ordered. A few minutes after I placed my take out order and sat down the same girl came out and asked me if I want a beef or chicken dish. I told her that I wanted chicken and she said, "Well, you said beef." First of all, I didn't say beef. If I had said beef then you wouldn't have come out and asked me. Second. I showed you where it was at on the menu and it's item number. You had every opportunity to get it right but your friends were more important to you than my order. Third, even if I said beef and pointed at chicken (which I didn't) lose the attitude, I'm the customer so treat me like it. While I wait on my food and write this the three girls have been loud and unprofessional. As a matter of fact, two of them are sitting in a booth close by and chatting. I haven't seen one approach a customer. Hopefully the food makes this all worthwhile. *Update* It didn't.

We pulled into town late and the only food options were McDonald's and the Lin Buffet. It's funny how simple Chinese can be good in the most random spots, but can also be so bland and tasteless in others. The Lin Buffet is the latter. I don't think it had to do with going there late on a Saturday either: the food was hot, the taste was simply mediocre at best.

Delicious food and friendly, small-town service. The food was fresh on the buffet, and my favorite was the wonderful walnut chicken.

Black Dog - Three Pepper Burger basket with a side of fries.

Black Dog

(24 reviews)

I've been hearing about the hype around this place for almost a year now…read more I started working in Booneville a little over eight months ago and Black Dog Meat Co. always gets brought up anytime the conversation drifts towards dining out and/or specifically remarkable places to eat locally or at least nearby. Due to being closed on the weekends (which I totally get, family is important) I hadn't had a chance to dine at Black Dog until recently when Booneville hosted a Totality Eclipse event. It was a pleasant surprise when I noticed they were open outside of normal business hours and I told my wife we weren't leaving until I got to order from the "legendary" town sandwich shop. We walked in to a rustic chic dining area adorned with family pictures, portraits of the dogs that served as the diner's namesake, and quirky bits of The Office memorabilia. Right away the decor, the lighting, and the overall upbeat mood of the little eatery evoked a strong sense of down home, authentic Americana. I couldn't wait to order. It didn't take long to decide which TWO entrées I wanted to devour, the menu is condensed and offers the exact amount of variety for such a place, but it DID take a few minutes to decide between the Chopper's Reuben and the Triple Pepper Burger. Both descriptions made my mouth salivate as I read through them, but I think in the end the idea of trying the famous smash burgers they're known for won me over as I opted for the latter. Don't get me wrong, I love a good Reuben probably more than any other classic sandwich and I'll definitely go back the minute I get the chance just to experience that, but I couldn't resist the mouthwatering description of a smash patty adorned with Jalepenos, chipotle mayo, the renowned Black Dog signature sauce, along with so much more. Ordered with a side of fries and a soda from the cooler, I waited impatiently. Partly due to being hungry after walking the blocks all day and partly due to finally getting a chance to form my own opinion about the place, I was chomping at the bit to get my burger basket. It didn't take long at all (even with a fairly packed dining area) and when the young lady who took my order brought my food over she barely had a chance to place it on the table before I was digging in and chowing down. Needless to say, it exceeded my every expectation. The bun was warm and fresh and tasted like it came straight from the oven. The perfectly balanced crispy and tender meat fritter was award worthy to say the least. The toppings: simply phenomenal. Quite a lengthy description on the menu led me to wonder if it was gonna be too much as the various flavors might end up struggling to present themselves enough to offer a distinguish taste, but boy was I wrong on that account. In addition to the others I mentioned earlier, the Three Pepper offered French fried crunchy onions, pepper jack cheese, and sriracha sauce. Of course, the distinct Black Dog sauce was the figurative cherry on top. Both equally discernible and delicious, I had to ask for a ramekin full to dip my fries in. Not that they needed it, by any means. The fries, my goodness the fries. if I had ordered from an Oscars party these would've taken home "best supporting actor to the main entrée". A perfectly golden yellow and crispy exterior with a warm, almost velvety interior, these little potato sticks almost stole the whole show. Seasoned with a savory blend of various spices and simply amazing in their own right, I couldn't get enough of the deep fried frites. In addition to the full flavored sauce that defines Black Dog, the fries should be considered a signature staple of the diner considering I've never tasted any as good as theirs before. A very welcoming atmosphere with a wholesome, family vibe, exceptional customer service, memorable food that deserves all the praise it receives, and an exceptional homemade signature sauce that needs to be bottled immediately make Black Dog Meat Co. a must stop for anyone in Logan County or even remotely close to the area. You won't regret it.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the items ordered…read more We got a Chicken Club Sandwich and the Bama. They were out of Ruebens that day, so that tells me Ruebens are an item to be desired. They have a drive-thru and close near 3pm. If you don't pre-order, expect a 20-30min wait. They also have delicious burgers. Breakfast items are offered before 10am.

Thankfully they had some left over! What a great thing that was! Delish food with great service with folks that we know and like and the price is reasonable in a colonel's downtown Americana atmosphere!

While visiting Ft Smith we were told of a great place to get barbecue. ~50 minutes from where we…read morewere staying was Reid's BBQ. Initially we were going to postpone to Sunday since we spent the day sightseeing however, they are not opened on Sunday. We made the drive but sadly they were already out of Ribs & Pulled Pork. We had a great server (Kaylie) and she did an awesome job in getting us to sample what was available. We ordered two Steve's Sampler which gave us plenty of options. The presentation was very good. On one platter we had Smoked Turkey & Burnt Ends,Mac n Cheese, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad. On the other tray we had Baked Beans, Okra, Regular Fries & Cajun Fries, Brisket, 2 types of Sausage and what was remaining of the pulled pork. All of which were very good. We had the Fried Pies for dessert but we only ordered 2 to share. Highly recommend the Pecan Pie w/Vanilla Ice Cream. The second Fried Pie was Blackberry w/Vanilla Ice Cream another great choice. A down side were the Burnt Ends, I found them way too salty which otherwise would have been excellent. The positives outweighed the negative. Starting with Kaylie our server, she made our dining experience wonderful! All of the sides we chose were delicious, the top picks were the Baked Beans, Cole Slaw & Potato Salad. I could not recommend because I'm not a Mac n Cheese fan so I don't know. The Okra was mediocre and if I'm choosing fries I'm going with the regular. Overall it was worth the drive from Ft Smith. Obviously I want to give a higher star rating but I really wanted the Ribs & Pulled Pork. This does not detract from the overall experience, I would still recommend going however, a call ahead before you go would be a great idea to see if they have what you like.
