We ordered chicken cabbage salad and the cabbage was very thick slices and too big in which took too long to chew & lacked enough dressing. I noticed a little roach crawling on the table which disgusted me. The pho broth was too oily and you can tell I was from the bottom of the pot as the broth was not clear. I asked over the phone if I could PAY FOR THREE LARGE PHO BROTHS, and they said the could only sell it to me if I ordered an appetizer. They are cheap asf and wanna just nickel and dime everything. This is one of our favorite places to eat in Ft Smith. We usually get takeout, but we went in today and the service is amazing and the staff makes you feel welcomed from the minute you walk in. We ordered the grilled chicken and vegetables for my kids to share and the portion was large enough for them to share. Also have enjoyed curries and sauté as well! I was incredibly surprised to find such a good meal in the middle of Arkansas. I was tired from a long day of hiking in the area and from driving, so I had to take some time to think whether I was just really hungry, or if I had actually been impressed with the food, and I'm glad it was a combination of both! Although I did not expect much from the service to begin with, I was a little disappointed that the server was not very knowledgeable about the menu and was unable to give any recommendations on the food, especially because I was skeptical about how authentic some of the dishes would be. My friend and I shared the papaya salad appetizer. Which was a very large appetizer. Given its price and portion, if ordered on its own, it would have easily have been a full meal. My friend had the canh chua (sweet and sour soup) and I had the bun thit nuon cha gio. (vermicelli noodles with beef and eggroll). The seasoning in both dishes were tasted quite authentic. The eggrolls were exceptional. I would have liked to have more greens in my dish as well. The only other issue I had with my dish was that the beef was shredded into very small bits rather than in large chunks, so a lot it fell to the bottom of the bowl and each bite felt a little less satisfying having to dig around for a piece of beef. With that being said, overall, the prices were quite reasonable and the flavors were spot on. read more

Always good food and service! Vietnamese food continues to be my least favorite of Asian cuisines. I struggle with the taste and smell of fish sauce. My excitement for Pho is limited too. But, for some reason, out of all the Vietnamese restaurants we have tried, I continue to return to the Green Papaya in south Ft Smith. My wife and I have been eating here since 2015. I have always been able to find something on their menu I really like that doesn't have the overpowering pungent taste of fish sauce. On this visit, I may have found a Pho that I really like! The #8 Mi Thap Cam. A thin egg noodle soup with BBQ pork, shrimp, imitation crab meat and quail eggs. I really enjoyed this big bowl of soup. It was packed with the described meats, a couple of soft boiled quail eggs. The broth had abundant flavor. It was very good. My wife, the tofu expert had the #V7 Mi Xao Tofu. It had a great variety of vegetables and perfectly stir fried tofu. Another good meal! What I really like about this Green Papaya, in addition to the consistent quality of the food and service, is the cleanliness of the restaurant. The spring rolls were not flavorful or super fresh. They were just ok. The dipping sauce for them was almost straight peanut butter - very thick. Had the shrimp curry which had good flavor. The potatoes needed to be cooked slightly more than they were. Somewhat hard. The server brought my food and never came back. At some point one female traded out with the other and never checked on me to refill my drink or bring a to go tray or see if I need anything. I finally got up and went to the front to ask for my check and a to go tray. She didn't apologize, just seemed embarrassed. Still didn't send server over to check on me. Mostly young people working. We were all set to leave this restaurant a five-star review for the food and service; then we were subjected to a five-plus-minute diatribe by the owner (?) at our great waitress out in the public area. She was telling her over and over and over that she had to tell custoners, "Watch out! Watch out! Watch out!" when serving Pho because it's hot. While our waitress had not used those exact words (which are, BTW, a very non-American way of letting customers know that something is hot so they should be careful), she HAD told us the Pho was hot. If she had said, "Watch out!" the many times (9-12 TOTAL) that the restaurant owner repeated it in her diatribe, we would have been quite offended. As it is, we are offended for the waitress, and we were disappointed that our hoped-for relaxing lunch break was spoiled by such a rude restaurateur. We went there for lunch. The Pho we called was great until the waiter got my order wrong. I called #5 but ask them to replace eye round steak by brisket. I think there was miscommunication and it was totally understandable if he got it wrong. BUT when I asked him to change, he went to the kitchen, and the restaurant owner was yelling 'what's wrong' , a minute later the owner came out, showing us the menu (like we didn't read?) and pointing directly at the #5 in the menu saying it contains eye round steak and soft tendon. Then I explained my order , immidiately she gave the waiter a bullet look and returned to the kitchen. She then kept on complaining about that but really loud and everybody in the restaurant could hear it. However, our waiter was very helpful, nice and the food was good so I'm definitely coming back. I've been here multiple times through the years, but this is the first time I've been completely disappointed with my meal. Stay away at dinner time, and visit during lunch. The food is served hotter and quicker. I always get pho at Vietnamese restaurants. This time, when my bowl arrived, the broth was like warm and the meat was undercooked. The waitress took it back to the kitchen, and returned it back. From the overly soft noodles, I'm positive the bowl was microwaved. The waitress messed up the rest of my order. My family was served the wrong fried rice, which they said tasted fine - but I was still charged for the waitress's mistake. I understand the waitress is new and training, but it still made for an unimpressive dinner experience. Four meals (2 fried rice, 2 bowls of pho), 3 drinks, and nothing else cost $60. read more
