Limeña is probably one of the best kept secrets in the 805. My Wednesday was made a little bit better by being able to finally try some classic Peruvian dishes at Limeña Peruvian Eatery in Thousand Oaks, California. Gabriel and his team are insanely passionate about the business and their community. I was only here about 30 minutes but I felt right at home, welcomed and eager to come back for more AND WITH FRIENDS. This is the kind of restaurant where you bring a group, everyone orders a different dish, and then you pass them around to get an amazing bite after bite. With Gabriel's help I was able to narrow it down to a few dishes that I had to try. The interior here is super cozy and inviting. I grabbed a big table against the wall and was delighted to see all of the customers that rolled in after work hours. I love seeing those in the community that feel at home coming into restaurants such as this, where their native language can be spoken and all of the great Spanish hits from my youth were playing in the background. Really the ambiance and atmosphere here is so inviting and warm. What you absolutely MUST order: Ceviche Carretillero : I don't know which food gods are shining down on me this week but this was ANOTHER one of the best bites I've had yet this year. Their famous Peruvian ceviche topped with fried calamari. It totally works and knocked my socks off. It's super refreshing with the Leche de Tigre, cold halibut and sweet potato, yet topped with that perfectly crispy calamari - this is a dish I won't soon forget and honestly will be longing for. Pollo Saltado : a more well known Peruvian dish, traditionally comes with beef, chicken or seafood. This lovely stir fried dish with onion, tomatoes, fries and rice is a Peruvian staple and fan favorite here. I opted for the chicken this time and was blown away by the flavors and textures. Such a solid and hearty dish. Definitely you'll have room for leftovers. All of this delicious food washed down with a Passionfruit Juice Please come give them a try!

The owner greeted us warmly after finding easy street parking for lunch. He provided us photos for the items we were interested in. My wife is very sensitive to cilantro flavor and thankfully we could barely taste it in the ceviche mixto and Loma soltado sauce. A very hard feat to achieve! Overall flavoring was great. We wish there were some tortilla chips that came with the ceviche. The steak could have been more tender and would have been perfect. Overall nice spot.

Delicious food, clean flavors, great plating, extremely fresh ingredients. It's a casual place despite the expensive prices. But the food is definitely good. We ordered the mariscos aroz, lomo saltado, and the yucca. Yucca with the three dipping sauces was perfect. Fluffy interior, crispy exterior, and the sauces were extremely complimentary. The mariscos aroz had a lot of seafood and was so flavorful. I think this was my favorite entree. The lomo saltado was also delicious with strong flavors. It is definitely pricy, especially for the setting, but it's so rare to find Peruvian food this good. I'd definitely come here again.

Pollo a la brasa - breast

I've been craving pollo a la brasa for a while and finally came across this place while visiting CA and was so happy. Service was quick and super friendly! Ambience was casual but a really cute set up. I had the pollo a la brasa and it did not disappoint. Green sauce was on point and I loved the salad dressing. Yuca was fresh and fried perfectly. Chicken was deliciously seasoned and had a little kick like I love. It's slightly pricey but so is everything when eating out these days so I don't blame them. Wish I lived closer so I could keep coming back Updating this to say I tried the ice cream and yum!!! I was too full to get the one that came with plantains but I can imagine how yummy that would be!

Had a delicious meal with the family at Limeña! Everything was on point. We ordered saltados, chaufas, tallarin, bistec, plantains. We even went for dessert and had lucuma ice cream and a superb flan. Gabriel, the owner, was so nice and welcoming. The restaurant is well kept and clean, including the restrooms. Highly recommend this little gem, especially if you're craving some latin cuisine. They know what they're doing!

Overall very good but not great. I ordered a half chicken with two sides of salad and a side of salsa criolla. Everything was tasty. The only downside was that the chicken skin was not crispy at all. Service was good and the place is cute and clean with a few outdoor tables.

Randomly stumbled across this restaurant and I'm so glad I did because the food was absolutely mouthwateringly good! Got the lomo saltado (with beef) and a side of fried plantains. It was sooooo good. The service was great also! Everyone was so nice and the owner made some recommendations. I'll definitely be coming back!

I really liked it. Totally tasted good. There was a man that took my order. Very kind and explained all the vegetable options. Really took time and was very thorough. It might be a hidden gem in Thousand Oaks. Packed very nicely to go and it all travelled well. I would suggest eating the toast there, if you like it crispy. Very clean environment and food was prepared well and quick. I recommend this place. I ordered things in the a..m. But lunch and dinner are offered too.

Papa a la Huancaina

We were leisurely driving on T.O. Blvd. and saw this place. We had already tried Mouthful Eatery awhile ago, another Peruvian eatery just a block away from Limena, and since we liked that one, we decided to give this place a try ! I can't say Limena was 5-star worthy like many others thought, but it was decent. We ordered the following: PAPA A LA HUANCAINA - a boiled potato served with mildly spicy cheese sauce, 1/2 hard-boiled egg, and an olive. The boiled potato was served at room temp, maybe even with a slight chill on it, and a real heavy cheese sauce (also room temp) was on top of the potato... it wasn't spicy at all, but I just didn't like it. It was just weird, and I couldn't get into the potato NOT being hot or at least warm...same with the sauce. I'm really not sure what the 1/2 hard-boiled egg and one lone olive were doing on this plate. Wasted food, and it didn't add anything to the presentation. If anything, it was weird. Anyway, this was a miss for me. $11 - and not worth it at all. Should've only been $6-7 for what it was. LOMO SALTADO - stir-fried beef with red onions, tomatoes, green onions, cilantro, and french fries, served with white rice. I didn't try it as my husband ordered it, but I'm sure it had the same sauce as mine did, which I did eat and will comment on below. $22.00 - definitely not worth that price. Should have been $15 at most. CHICKEN SALTADO - chicken stir-fried with red onions, fresh tomatoes, green onions, cilantro, and french fries, served with white rice. Very tasty meal, but almost TOO salty. I didn't care for the french fries swimming in the sauce, so I opted for using the rice as a buffer to the very salty sauce. At least it was quite flavorful, but the salty aspect might've been too much had I not eaten this dish with the rice. I thought this was a bit pricey for what it was... $20. Should have been between $13-15. Not worth $20. CHURROS - traditional Spanish churros filled with Bavarian crème and rolled in cinnamon sugar and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Barely enough crème for me to notice, and some pieces, I didn't taste or see any of it. Also, I would've preferred a little container of chocolate sauce to dip the churros in, however, it was just lightly drizzled with the sauce, which left me wanting a LOT more. Not worth $10.... maybe $8. I actually was thinking of awarding 4 stars, but the more I thought about it, the less I like this place. To be honest, I'm really not sure I will return because it wasn't THAT good, it's overpriced, and there are just so many other restaurants waiting for us to try them.

We found this great place hidden amongst Thousand Oaks. This place you could smell how amazing it was on the outside. We sat down and met the owner who walked us thru all the types of dishes and even taught us a few phrases and translations. He also recommend we try the purple corn drink, which was delicious. For meals we ordered the lamb and the beef, and they both came with rice and sauce. Both dishes were mouth wateringly delicious and freshly cooked. The service was great, they checked on us periodically. The prices were also great, ever affordable for the amount of food. Check this place out if you ever wanted to try some Peruvian food! It's worth it!

March 20, 2026 | Friday | Venice Beach Boardwalk | What a fun and continued adventure when I met up…read morewith my neighbor once again, as I randomly spotted a colorful looking exotic restaurant! The location turned out to be El Huarique Peruvian Kitchen! What a delicious find that turns up the flavor and definitely the heat! Be careful what you ask for! Haha! Fish Ceviche | Yes, please! Now, at first bite, for some odd reason, I thought the dish was going to be hot, but it was cold and absolutely delicious! Taking our server Mauricio's advice, I tried each item separately on my plate and then mixed it up... Yummy! New flavors had my taste buds doing a happy dance over and over again! Haha! I would absolutely 100% get this dish again! The flavors were electric once combined! Turn up the Heat | Our server Mauricio asked my spice level and I confidently said spicy! He asked if I was sure and I told him the story about me being in India, requesting a spicier version of a dish & the Chef coming out to take a look at me, because he couldn't believe I wanted spicier! Haha! Comedy Hour | I was enjoying every flavorful bite of the Fish Ceviche, when all of a sudden my body started to heat up! I was like, I can handle a bit of spice... And then suddenly my tongue got really warm and I could hardly feel it... Then my eyes started to water... And suddenly I lost focus in the conversation I was having with my friend & the traveler! I could hardly talk, because it was honestly that spicy! Haha! I bet it was also the sneaky little red onions, in addition to the other spices! Help, Please | I spotted Mauricio and asked him if he had any bread or yogurt, because my mouth was on fire! He didn't! He recommended water, which I had already tried! My friend, she recommended plantains, which I had also tried! The traveler ended up recommending the lettuce on my plate, which ended up helping for sure! After a while, my mouth started to cool down, thank goodness! Eye Spot Spice | Just when my mouth started to cool down, my friend accidentally touched her eye, which must have had spice on it! The girl at the next table, dining with her significant other, immediately came to her rescue! I asked our server Mauricio for a cup of water so she could flush out her eye! The girl at the next table told her to rub her eye with her hair... Which oddly helped! Plantains | I can always appreciate plantains, as I love them! They arrived at our table and quite plentiful! I appreciated that the flavor was just the right amount of sweet and savory... Perfect! As conversation flowed easily between me, my friend, and the traveler! I invited him to enjoy the plantains with us, which he did! Fried Rice | My friend, ordered this dish and invited me to share it with her! OMG! I highly recommend, so flavorful and definitely shareable! I happily enjoyed every bite that I put onto my plate! Customer Service | Mauricio was top-tier! He was patient, kind and so much fun to explore the menu with! He really wanted us to have the Peruvian experience, considering it was both me and my friends first time having Peruvian food... as far as I know! Seating | Both inside and outside! We sat on the outside patio! Happy Meeting | While waiting for my friend to arrive at the restaurant, a friendly worldwide traveler, who was currently in town, helped me with the menu! Though his meal included chicken, a dish he frequently orders when he's in town, he invited me to explore the veggie part of the menu and mentioned that the food was really good here! Something made me trust his recommendation and I'm glad I did! We had fun chatting with the friendly traveler! Overall | Oh my goodness! Hahaha! Between the flavorful Fish Ceviche that was too hot to handle, sweet and savory Plantains, the customer service via Mauricio, an extension of me and my friends spa day, & other friendly customers, made for a memorable evening! I'm excited to do it again, definitely turning down the spice level and exploring more of the menu! Thanks again, Mauricio & the friendly traveler! We shall all meet again! Let's go!!

I have been to this place so many times in the past 20-some years, and I just loved their "Famoso Pollo Versailles", especially with their delicious BBQ sauce. I can't recall how long it was since I/we've been there to eat, but I always had good memories of the service and food. Nevertheless, tonight, after my spouse and I decided to have dinner there, we both said, never again!! We got there around 8-ish, and the place wasn't really that busy for a Saturday. Maybe 6 or 7 small tables. That was all that was occupied by customers. A female server asked us how many people were there and then showed us a table to sit at. Shortly after, we ordered our drinks and food. The waitress came across as unfriendly and not in the least welcoming. But the unnecessary noise from the kitchen was almost unbearable. Absolutely zero consideration that all customers could hear this since it is an open kitchen next to the dining room. And this place is already noisy because of the tile floors and high ceiling. Altogether, it made it all seem like a mess hall with this noise. When the server came and brought our dishes. My spouse had Lechon Asado, and I had their famous chicken with rice and black beans. The beans were in a small bowl on a saucer, and when I grabbed it to add the beans to my rice that was on another plate, that small bowl of black beans slipped out of my grip and half of it spilled on the table next to my plate. We didn't receive any bread, as all the other customers had on their tables. We had to ask another waiter for some bread. His demeanor wasn't any friendlier than the server we already ended up with. Well, at least he brought us the bread. When the waitress came by, again I showed her my mess and apologized, and I thought she would take care of it to help me clean up that mess. All she said was, it's okay and took off. I ended up with a huge mess of black beans next to my plate with chicken. My spouse and I couldn't believe that she couldn't care less to clean it up or at least give me something to clean it off. Nice. My chicken was very disappointing because it tasted overcooked and dry. So dry I had a hard time to cut it with their cheap knives. We finished our meal, and even trying to pay/asking for our check was an ordeal. She never bothered to come by. We ended up going to the front and paying there. The whole staff was unfriendly and anything but welcoming. I have never left a restaurant without tipping. This was my first.
