I really wanted to enjoy this dish, but it was a major disappointment. For $30, I expected a generous portion of meat and tacu tacu. Instead, there were only a few small pieces of meat, barely any tacu tacu, and the plate was mostly filled with salty broth. The presentation made it look like a substantial meal, but it was not. I finished the plate and still left the restaurant hungry, which is frustrating when you are paying that much for one entrée. First time trying Peruvian food and it was amazing. My friends got tallarin and the other got lomo saltado and I was able to try a bit of each and both were also super delicious. I got the Limena sandwich. Sorry for my half picture, I completely forgot to take a pic at the start it was so good! The portion size goes with the pricing when you're looking at that just know you will have some for leftovers or you'll be very very full after your meal. My Wednesday was made a little bit better by being able to finally try some classic Peruvian dishes at Limeña Peruvian Eatery in Thousand Oaks, California. Gabriel and his team are insanely passionate about the business and their community. I was only here about 30 minutes but I felt right at home, welcomed and eager to come back for more AND WITH FRIENDS. This is the kind of restaurant where you bring a group, everyone orders a different dish, and then you pass them around to get an amazing bite after bite. With Gabriel's help I was able to narrow it down to a few dishes that I had to try. The interior here is super cozy and inviting. I grabbed a big table against the wall and was delighted to see all of the customers that rolled in after work hours. I love seeing those in the community that feel at home coming into restaurants such as this, where their native language can be spoken and all of the great Spanish hits from my youth were playing in the background. Really the ambiance and atmosphere here is so inviting and warm. What you absolutely MUST order: Ceviche Carretillero : I don't know which food gods are shining down on me this week but this was ANOTHER one of the best bites I've had yet this year. Their famous Peruvian ceviche topped with fried calamari. It totally works and knocked my socks off. It's super refreshing with the Leche de Tigre, cold halibut and sweet potato, yet topped with that perfectly crispy calamari - this is a dish I won't soon forget and honestly will be longing for. Pollo Saltado : a more well known Peruvian dish, traditionally comes with beef, chicken or seafood. This lovely stir fried dish with onion, tomatoes, fries and rice is a Peruvian staple and fan favorite here. I opted for the chicken this time and was blown away by the flavors and textures. The owner greeted us warmly after finding easy street parking for lunch. He provided us photos for the items we were interested in. My wife is very sensitive to cilantro flavor and thankfully we could barely taste it in the ceviche mixto and Loma soltado sauce. A very hard feat to achieve! Overall flavoring was great. We wanted to try this place. No offense but you are using the wrong meat for a "lomo saltado". Traditionally a rib eye cut is used,instead we observed some kind of cubed chuck steak of some sort. Meat was extremely dry and hard to swallow. It was most likely awaiting a reheat..Flavor of the sauce was definitely missing,not enough fries or tomatoes. My goto Peruvian food is Fina Estampa in Northridge,the correct cut of meat with the right taste to the sauce. read more

We ordered the mariscos aroz, lomo saltado, and the yucca. Yucca with the three dipping sauces was perfect. Fluffy interior, crispy exterior, and the sauces were extremely complimentary. The mariscos aroz had a lot of seafood and was so flavorful. I think this was my favorite entree. The lomo saltado was also delicious with strong flavors. Nice little Peruvian place in a strip mall in TO. Super nice gentleman that took our order on a Friday night. I had the Lomo Saltado and wifey had the quarter chicken with salad and plantains. The Lomo Saltado was very good with tender meat and a great sauce. The wife's chicken was really tasty, done very well on the rotisserie grill and super moist. I've been craving pollo a la brasa for a while and finally came across this place while visiting CA and was so happy. Service was quick and super friendly! Ambience was casual but a really cute set up. I had the pollo a la brasa and it did not disappoint. Green sauce was on point and I loved the salad dressing. Yuca was fresh and fried perfectly. Chicken was deliciously seasoned and had a little kick like I love. It's slightly pricey but so is everything when eating out these days so I don't blame them. We were leisurely driving on T.O. Blvd. and saw this place. We had already tried Mouthful Eatery awhile ago, another Peruvian eatery just a block away from Limena, and since we liked that one, we decided to give this place a try ! I can't say Limena was 5-star worthy like many others thought, but it was decent. We ordered the following: PAPA A LA HUANCAINA - a boiled potato served with mildly spicy cheese sauce, 1/2 hard-boiled egg, and an olive. The boiled potato was served at room temp, maybe even with a slight chill on it, and a real heavy cheese sauce (also room temp) was on top of the potato... it wasn't spicy at all, but I just didn't like it. It was just weird, and I couldn't get into the potato NOT being hot or at least warm...same with the sauce. I'm really not sure what the 1/2 hard-boiled egg and one lone olive were doing on this plate. Wasted food, and it didn't add anything to the presentation. If anything, it was weird. Anyway, this was a miss for me. $11 - and not worth it at all. Should've only been $6-7 for what it was. LOMO SALTADO - stir-fried beef with red onions, tomatoes, green onions, cilantro, and french fries, served with white rice. I didn't try it as my husband ordered it, but I'm sure it had the same sauce as mine did, which I did eat and will comment on below. $22.00 - definitely not worth that price. Should have been $15 at most. CHICKEN SALTADO - chicken stir-fried with red onions, fresh tomatoes, green onions, cilantro, and french fries, served with white rice. Very tasty meal, but almost TOO salty. I didn't care for the french fries swimming in the sauce, so I opted for using the rice as a buffer to the very salty sauce. At least it was quite flavorful, but the salty aspect might've been too much had I not eaten this dish with the rice. I thought this was a bit pricey for what it was... $20. Should have been between $13-15. Not worth $20. CHURROS - traditional Spanish churros filled with Bavarian crème and rolled in cinnamon sugar and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Barely enough crème for me to notice, and some pieces, I didn't taste or see any of it. Also, I would've preferred a little container of chocolate sauce to dip the churros in, however, it was just lightly drizzled with the sauce, which left me wanting a LOT more. Not worth $10.... maybe $8. I actually was thinking of awarding 4 stars, but the more I thought about it, the less I like this place. To be honest, I'm really not sure I will return because it wasn't THAT good, it's overpriced, and there are just so many other restaurants waiting for us to try them. read more

I am so glad to have finally made it to this place. Friendly customer service and amazing food. I ordered the surf and turf chaufa off the lunch menu- Shrimp and Beef with quinoa in the style of Peruvian fried rice, bean sprouts, peas, carrots, egg, and green onions. The flavors were spot on, well seasoned, had a wonderful kick to it, just the right amount of heat, and it was served with a green cilantro lime sauce/chutney that I wanted to drink with a spoon. The beef and shrimp were tender and not overcooked. I really enjoyed it. My friends ordered Lomo Saltado - Stir-fried beef with red onions, tomatoes, green onions, cilantro, and french fries served with white rice-- the fries were soaked in the delicious beef gravy. We sat down and met the owner who walked us thru all the types of dishes and even taught us a few phrases and translations. He also recommend we try the purple corn drink, which was delicious. This was our first time in this restaurant. We happened to be in the area and we decided to look for Peruvian food. This place appeared on the top of the list. The facade was very unassuming yet the minute we stepped in we were greeted by a smiling host named Gabriel. Gabriel provided the menus and we ordered Papa a la Huancaina and Lomo Saltado. Both dishes were right on the spot, delicious and even though they were lunch portion, they were the right amount. I think this is a hidden jewel. We were warmly greeted when we stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. The format is quick service- order at the counter and the server will deliver the food to your table. The person at the counter (I presume the owner but not sure) was great in explaining the menu. We ordered the Aguadito chicken soup, 1/4 rotisserie chicken with salad and beans, and fried yuca with 3 sauces. The food came out quickly. The fried yuca was very delicious- sooo crispy and nicely seasoned. The sauces were a great accompaniment- 2 of them were spicy. They are similar to French fries but better, in my opinion. This is a big portion that can be shared for sure. The soup was also delicious. It had peas, carrots, potatoes, rice, and shredded chicken. The bowl was a hearty portion, so I shared it with DH. DH enjoyed the rotisserie chicken and sides. The chicken came with a jalapeno cilantro sauce- verdant with a kick. The restaurant has seating inside and outside with casual ambience. TL;DR Food is pretty good but expensive. Deducted stars due to service. Passed this place many times and have been wanting to try it. It's a small restaurant. There was only one table (two seater) open when I walked in to eat by myself. I ordered my food and started to pay at the register. As I am paying, the gentleman at the register answers the phone and tells whoever just called that there is one table for two available and that he'll save it for them. He proceeds to walk over to the open table and put a metal 'reserved' placard on the table. I finish paying and he tells me that I'll have to go eat outside. I normally don't mind eating outside, but it was 57* tonight and I had just left work. I was not dressed to be comfortable outside in sub 60* weather. They have gas heaters outside, but the heaters weren't on. So, I sat outside and ate my food. Food wasn't bad. The waiter never came back outside to see if I wanted a drink refill. The table that was 'reserved' remained empty the entire time I sat outside to eat. The food wasn't bad, but for the price and lack of courtesy, I won't be back. read more
