Scheduling a nightmare. Emails, calls, emails, calls. Finally set up for my son, took him out of…read moreschool. They said "his appt was yesterday," wherein I replied "no, look at this email, I wasn't available yesterday," and receptionist took no responsibility. It was definitely Wed not Tues. She wouldn't look at my emails. She said "oh, she shouldn't have done that"/scheduled you? My son didn't feel heard at the appt with the Dr. He had a concussion and was sent for that, not a normal eye exam. I was but off by him too in our conversations. Disregarded. Now he is getting glasses, don't think that is the correct route? My appt was suppossed to be immediately after his (for his 9am we arrived at 850 and he was seen at 920/ a student missing school). The first thing I asked was if the dr was on time. Then for my appt, it was supposed to be back to back, mine was at 10, we were there still, and at 10, she stated there were THREE people ahead of me, so an hour wait. Didn't mention they stated they "squeezed Max in today," so therefore the wait, because of their schedule mishap. Felt disrespected and won't go back. We just left, I had to get my kid back in school. Going elsewhere.

So 600 down the drain and they wouldn't work with me at all. So I can't get another pair for two years. I have severe migraines and won't be able to get glasses I am confident in for two years. Seems pretty out of touch for a business whose role is to help people with their vision. I won't be going back.

I went through the preop prep, which was time-consuming for all involved so I feel bad for deciding not to follow through. I chose the Office near me but after the appointment was made, i have been asked to drive 30 miles out of my way to go to their other office because of equipment being down. & basically it was implied thst every future appointment would not be in my location and no indication of this issue being remidied any time soon. & basically said that they would make the appointment but probably continue to call me to move it to the other location, which obviously is more convenient for them, but that wasn't part of the plan in the beginning if I had known that I was going to be coaxed into going 30 miles away (plus for me to get to town is 12 miles) almost 50 miles each way, I wouldn't have chosen this office or this Dr. so I feel kind of confused and that they weren't upfront with my original appointment. Also Anna, who is borderline dismissive and retrieved most of my calls, seemed happy to cancel my next appointment without even offering a suggestion or resolution. I finally got very annoyed & canceled the whole future service. Which I had been excited to have done.

Victoria and Luke were really enjoyable and great conversations started up with both. I found myself relaxing more and more. Dr Abroms then came in and took me through the cataract surgery and what it would look like, how long it would take and what the results would be. They scanned my eyes which took only minutes. Then I met with Lisa the Executive Director who went over all the packages available. She was very thorough and I picked my package and we headed up to schedule the surgery. A week later I was at the Surgery center in Arroyo Grande. It was a well oiled machine the way they got you ready made you feel comfortable (Zara, Jen and Lisa) and wisked me into the operating room. After (20 minutes) I went home and things were a bit blurry for a day. The next day I couldn't wait to schedule the other eye. I haven't seen this good since I was 12 and no glasses. I had a wonderful experience.

As I leaned into the machine my back hurt, a lot. I walked away to find a chair to ease the pain. The technician complained to Dr. Hulburds assistant that I was refusing treatment. I am a registered nurse who worked for many years at UCLA Medical Center and at Jules Stein Eye Institute. I know how patients should be treated and how a medical office should be run. In my opinion this was just another example of Pacific Eye hiring mediocre and outright incompentent staff who not only does not know how to do their jobs properly but who are rude and inconsiderate to the patients and then additionally create needless conflict between the doctors and their patients created by the rudeness and incompetence of their staff who try to shift the blame of their failed effort on the patients.

Some things that have happened recently over the last year or 2 that are making me consider finding a new place to go. - One appointment for a visual field test late last year I think, and I waited 30-40 minutes, I was told someone forgot to start up the machine and that it takes that long to initialize. Another time, the machine broke and I had to drive to San Luis Obispo for the test. - I have had to reschedule an appointment recently and its difficult. I had to call multiple times and no one picks up the phone, I leave messages and nobody calls back. I used the Klara app and get no response other then a link to schedule a new appointment - which doesn't help with cancelling an existing one. After several calls I finally got someone. - Another appointment about 6 months ago, one of the assistants seem to give me a difficult time about my glasses which I got at another local optical shop previously. They remarked the glasses looked old and didn't seem to believe the prescription was right. My prescription didn't change from the last 2 eye exams and I see 20 / 20 with the glasses so they are fine. I let them scan the glasses to confirm the prescription. But I also recall them asking why I didn't get the glasses at Pacific Eye's optical shop which is really none of their business.

This review pertains to the non medical staff and the updated phone system…read more It is now impossible to get to a human who can answer a question. Calling the office gets you into a queue, and the four times I called the wait was 17 minutes, 24 minutes, 36 minutes, and 13 minutes. When I did reach a human, she told me I had to leave a message on the triage line. She would not give me her name or the name of the person/s responsible for triage (Black Hole) line. (I left three triage line messages and never got a call back.) I needed to talk with a human at the Templeton office. Calling the number listed for Templeton gets you the SLO office and the phone answerer told me there was no number for Templeton and no technicians who could assist in Templeton. She also said that is how she was trained to respond. So, on many, many levels from whomever designed the system, approved the system, signed the check, and trained people about the system, it is a colossal failure. Staff training is lacking and the responses by the person today suggest a person who is darn tired of hearing about the messed up system. It is not an improvement. Transferring a call to get the person off your queue is not good training, not getting answers to simple questions is not decent customer service. This is doing a huge disservice to your clients and to the doctors, who likely do not hear about these issues. I have a great doctor, but the recent messes are disturbing. Just listen to the people in the waiting room--you can learn a lot from our experiences.
