Came here once with a friend about a month ago. The atmosphere and service were both nice, but I care most for the food. We got the ceviche mixto, jalea limena, and the parihuela. The ceviche mixto (appetizer) was really good, it had a lot of new and interesting flavors we weren't expecting so we had high hopes for the entrees. My partner and I were looking for ceviche in the metroplex and found this place on Yelp so decided to give it a try. It was amazing! He's had Peruvian ceviche before, I have not. We decided to just sample a bunch of appetizers. Everything was delicious! He was more than happy and I can now say I love ceviche! He was pleasantly surprised with the sweet potato served with the ceviche. It was a perfect accompaniment to cut the acidity. The gentleman taking care of us was so friendly and offered such great advice. He even let us try a chicken empanada on the house. (Can't go wrong with the chicken or the beef). Terrible Terrible Service!!! We had a table for 12 reservation for 2:30pm. We were all starving so we ordered our food right away. It is 4pm now and we are still sitting here without any food!!!!! Shame on the owner for not hiring enough staff and trying to run a restaurant with two little kids in the front who are taking orders and also preparing meals in the back. It's not their fault. I have being at this restaurant before and this time it was the worst time, I will never go back, the food was not good and portions very tiny, service was not the greatest and prices very elevated, at the time of getting the ticket they included an 18% tip with out asking or letting us know that it was included, and when signing the ticket there was an extra space for putting more tip, I feel scammed and we where 4 families that every one got a ticket and the same thing happened to all. What a great surprise, hidden in the Collin Creek Mall compound. Really beautiful place and the food was insane - really high quality and comforting, like a Peruvian grandmother would make. If you've never had Peruvian food, don't worry that it might be too hot or spicy. Peruvian food features lots of potatoes, squash and seafood. The ceviche, as expected, was delicious. Ceviche Mixto was divine, with the freshest seafood and the subtlest mix of red onions, cilantro and lime juice. It came with the most profound slab of sweet potato. We ordered two seafood stews and the Aji de Gallina, chicken in a creamy sauce with potatoes and rice. Total comfort food. Met up with a friend here last week I hadn't seen in a while, and we had the most wonderful experience! The atmosphere in this place is super lovely, not only because of how well it's designed, but the people that work there are so friendly, welcoming, and awesome. I believe his name was Emilio, my apologies if I got that wrong, but this man was so nice! He was our chef and came to check and see how we liked our food, which was absolutely delicious. It hurts to say but this was a terrible experience. We saw this place and the rating that it has and we were expecting a good experience. The place was pretty much empty. It was only us and two other tables. Our waitress just didn't care at all and we could barely see her outside. Our waitress was not familiar with their own menu and every question that I had she had to go ask someone else. We ordered two ceviches and a lomo saltado. It took them 45+ minutes to get it out and they forgot one ceviche. We think that this is way overpriced for the amount of food that they serve and the quality of the food. Then we even got our checks wrong. I wouldn't recommend this place unfortunately. There are way better options around the DFW. Management: please get your staff members more familiar with the menu and make sure they improve their customer service. Just reconsider pricing and if you do decide to keep the same prices at least improve the quality or quantity. Ps: this comes from someone who is well familiar with Peruvian food. read more

One word: Exceptional. I just had the most amazing experience at Lima Taverna. I'm seriously planning my next trip back already, haha! My boyfriend had never had Peruvian cuisine before, and I had been craving ceviche. We sat at the bar and talked with the owner, who gave us samples and back stories behind all of the food we were eating. When I told him that I don't really drink alcohol, he made me a virgin sangria (which was out of this world). The Leche de Tigre is probably the best ceviche I've ever had. It was tangy with a beautiful blend of spices. It took everything in me to not drink the remaining juices out of the bowl, lol. So disappointed! I was in search for a place that served great Ceviche. As I searched for locations, the reviews on this location caught my attention. I decided to give it try. I'm actually giving this review two stars because the ceviche was good! It was fresh and delicious! The disappointment came from the other food and service. I'd also like to state that their description on the menu doesn't coincide with what is served on the plate. My son ordered from the brunch menu, he chose what was titled "EGGS" described as scrambled eggs, with bacon and potato hash. After placing the order the waiter returns asking "how would like his yolk?" Which confused me at first because I thought it was scrambled eggs. I replied " Isn't he scrambled eggs that's served?" He said " oh okay, he wants them scrambled .. no problem" ... ‍ After a long wait, his was meal was served and we noticed that there wasn't any bacon on the plate and the potato hash was really just pieces of stewed potatoes. 3 pieces to be exact. I asked about the bacon, waiter said " we can add the bacon" .. leaves and then return to say that they are out of bacon ‍ Moving on to my plate .. I was served a large leg/thigh piece of chicken and cilantro rice. The rice was delicious. The chicken was hot on the outside and cold on the inside. Seemed like the chicken was a day old, was placed in the fridge overnight and taken out to be reheated. It wasn't fresh!! I do not typically send food back, nor do I complain, but I just had to let me waiter know because this is the cooks fault. I informed my waiter, he was apologetic, and tried to compensate with a dessert. Due to my experience, I won't return. Check your meals and ask questions! read more

We've been to a lot of Peruvian restaurants, and this is the best we've had. The dishes they have that are common at other Peruvian restaurants are taken up a level - better ingredients, better cooking, better presentation. But there are lots of dishes (especially seafood things) that you won't find at other Peruvian restaurants in the area - these are where Lima Taverna excels. Don't get me wrong, the Lomo Saltado and the like are way better than what you'll get elsewhere, and if you don't like seafood, you'll still have a great meal here. But if you like seafood, especially shellfish, this is your place. Service was fantastic as well. Attentive, helpful (including with suggestions), super kind, but not hovering. We had an American-paced meal of our own accord, but other tables in the restaurant were having a nice, leisurely meal. I would love to come back when I have nowhere to be and just sit and relax and enjoy the atmosphere, the incredibly nice people, and the really stellar food. We talked with the owner a bit, and he says it makes him happy when people have a full meal - share an appetizer, have an entree, share a dessert. It makes me happy too, and the food we had at each course was great. We will definitely be back soon and often for the food and the service. Pro tip: if you like spicy food, ask for their spicy sauces - they have at least 3, that each pair best with different dishes, and the one they offer with the ceviche is suuuuper spicy and delicious. read more

BEST MEAL I'VE HAD IN AGES!!! My husband and I are foodies, yet we live in Allen which somewhat limits our options. We decided to drive a bit south on Friday night and we weren't disappointed!! We were greeted by the owner/chef with delightful recommendations. We started with Pisco Sour, best described as a Peruvian Margherita Then the ceviche which was THE BEST IVE EVER HAD! We shared the popular dinner entree which was tender beef, veggies and rice. We enjoyed an after dinner drink of some kind of passion fruit mix and then a delightful flan that was unique in texture and depth of flavor. WE WILL BE BACK! We had eaten here once before and thought this might be a fun place to visit with some friends from Dallas on a Saturday night for dinner to show them one of the great restaurants Plano has to offer. Sadly, our second visit to Lima Taverna was a disappointment and a bit of an embarrassment. The main issue was with the service--inattentive at best. We were brought bread and butter with no silverware. Our drinks took forever to arrive, and one of our party didn't get his drink until much later than the rest of us. I'm assuming the server was new to the job (or hoping that was the case) because he didn't have much to say about the menu and seemed unfamiliar with basic things such as refilling water and knowing who ordered what when bringing the food and again when preparing the check. We don't want to cry discrimination, but the one black person at our table received the least satisfactory service in a way that was obvious to all of us--being skipped when silverware was being handed out and not receiving drinks with the rest of us. The food was tasty, though a little pricy for what we received. We did enjoy the live music by a multitalented musician/vocalist. We waited forever for our server to stop by so we could ask for our check but eventually had to send someone across the restaurant to ask another server. Finally, we received the check for our party of 4 with a 20% added on, which I assume is not standard practice. Overall, "disappointing" is the best word I know to describe our visit with friends who may never again let us pick the restaurant. read more

This place is tucked away in the side of a little mall in Plano - but it is definitely a wonderful little gem in Dallas. I've been looking for a good Peruvian place to get some Aji de Gallina and definitely found exactly what I was looking for. It's a warm, filling comfort food with chicken and potatoes in a creamy curry. I tried the fried rice with chicken (Chaufa) which was delicious as well. Just ate there a few minutes back and the service and the food was horrible . The only good thing was the attentiveness of the lady clearing the tables and other . Had the ceviche de pescado ( fish was cut so big ) and all you could taste was the MSG in the leche de Tigre not much acidity nor spicy for a ceviche, love the touch of the glaze in the sweet potato camote. So when we rush to get home only a 15 minute drive my wife opens the picarones and instead of getting the miel de chancaca or any type of honey . We get Freaking ketchup !!!!!! Came across this charming little spot while running an errand up in plano and I'm very happy I did. A few months ago I had the privilege to go Peru and I can tell you the food is AMAZING! So when I saw the chance to get some Peruvian food in Dallas I jumped on it and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is very clean, the service was very fast and the waiter was even able to make a custom dish that I had eaten in Peru that was not on the menu. If you get a chance, be sure to try the "Huancaina" sauce, which is a Peruvian aji amarillo sauce. It's like a funky, delicious Alfredo sauce. I like to order it with the fettuccine and put it with the Lomo Saltado, which is a traditional Peruvian Wok stir fry of beef tenderloin strips, potatoes, onions and tomatoes. The wine is expensive, but I highly recommend a Chica Morado, a refreshing, authentic Peruvian cocktail.
