I love this place! It's down the street from where I grew up, the staff is friendly (and speak both Spanish and English), the food comes in large portions and is very different from what you will find around town, and the prices are incredibly fair. I have been stopping by here every few weeks on my way to work, and I have been waiting to post my review, because I wanted to try as many things on the menu as I could. I've been back here many times, and while the building is unassuming, the friendly vibe they've nurtured is lovely. I see a lot of repeat customers, and I plan on returning often myself. The family chicken was so delicious my dog was salivating just from the smell. I would've given it a 5 but they did not have yuca fries or plantains as a side option. You have to buy the. But regardless, it seemed to be a fairly authentic, family-run Peruvian spot. My companion had started with the fried yucca, then had the fried seafood platter (the name of which I can't recall, nor pronounce), and arroz con mariscos, which was basically a paella for entrees. We followed those with lucuma ice cream. Overall, for a family-style restaurant outside of the city, we were pleased. The servers were friendly, and the place was clean and comfortable. I've been on the hunt for Peruvian food in Dallas since traveling to Peru a few years ago and Gran Machu Picchu did not disappoint. My favorite dish we tried was el chupe de camarón... so, so, so great. I plan to go back just to enjoy this soup again, definitely a "top ten soup" my in my opinion. It's perfect creamy goodness, must try! The other dishes we had were also great and the chicha morada was the bomb. This place is so easy to overlook, but it would be huge mistake to do so. It used to be in a strip mall several years ago but has relocated to NW Hwy and Saturn Rd. The place is rather non-descript, but that does not do justice to the quality of the food. The food here is just outstanding. This is authentic Peruvian food made right. Fresh, light, and so flavorful. We just love it. Our favs from the appetizers are numbers 1 and 2. One is the best tamale you will ever have, called Tamal. The other is a potato dish with sliced potatoes in a spicy cheese sauce. It is to die for. The first time I tried the kabobs, but they are from heart. I was brave once, and it was fine, but I think once is enough. I always order from the fish section and my fav is #27 which is a lightly fried white fish with fresh onions, peppers, and other vegies. Plus fresh yucca and rice. The portions are enormous! And so tasty!!! There is also a fried fish with garlic but I can't remember the number. The descriptions in English are sufficient to make a wise choice. The fried fish is so light, not a hint of grease. It is just wonderful. The first time we were there my wife got the goat and it was very tender, but bony. The next time she ordered #16 which is a beef dish with vegies. The portion was enormous and most of the beef was very tender, a few hard pieces. This place is very modest looking but the quality of the food is about the best around. This part of Dallas is not exactly restaurant row, but this place is worth the trip no matter where you live. If you want fresh, high quality food (plus Peruvian beer) this is your place. They also have a margarita-type drink that is wonderful. Can't remember the name but something like pico or piso. It is outstanding. Overall, it is hard to go wrong here. We've been going to this restaurant for years. First we went out of curiosity. Now we return time and time again totally because of the authenticity of the food! What an interesting experience! And an interesting menu! My BFF Leo Z. invited me here for dinner the other night. Since his car was being serviced at Trophy Nissan (one star), Machu Picchu was nearby. Yes, this place is kind of a dive. No, they don't have cloth napkins. But they have wonderful and interesting food. Also tasty! I had the Aji de Pollo, a chicken dish in a yellow, almost curry sauce, with potatoes. We ordered a side of fried Yucca (extra yummy!). Leo had the Bistec Machu Picchu, which tasted great but not very tender. For starters we had the Tamal (see photos of all this), and it was very good, and huge! This is not an upscale place, and the server didn't know to bring courses out separately, so it all came at the same time. But, since we weren't laying out $100 for dinner, what the heck? I'm a fan of this place, but due to the location, probably won't be back!! I forget if it's in Mesquite or Garland, but what's the difference! I've read thru the rest of the reviews and honestly it seems like people who don't know what peruvian food actually is and when they taste something they don't understand they say it's yucky. cancha is supposed to be hard. that's the whole point. the food is very authentic. it tastes like peruvian food I've had in peru (I'm peruvian) and it taste like the food my mom and dad make at home. My husband and I have been here a couple of times. For some reason all of the Peruvian restaurants are concentrated in Garland and Richardson. I lived in Peru for a number of years (I am American) and I have to agree with another poster (J.R.) below, there are no good Peruvian restaurants in the DFW area. If you are unfamiliar with Peruvian food, then I guess this is an okay place to figure out that tacos and re-fried beans do not exist in the Peruvian diet. If you like seafood, try the ceviche. If you like broasted chicken, try the pollo a la brasa. On a side note (to the owners): do not do your business in the middle of the restaurant. The dining room should not be your office, you make your customers feel unwelcome and it looks very unprofessional. I gave this place two stars, just b/c it lacks the authentic touch. read more

Well I finally found this place. My Google searches kept bringing me to the old location, Francesca finally helped me find this place. Parking is a little tricky but it is managable. The food was very good, and very similar to the place I went to in L.A. Lots of french fries, and rice. The Peruvian beer is a must! I prefered the Cusquena, but the girl I went with preferred the Cristal. I recommend getting both and seeing what you prefer. I will say that I wasn't a huge fan of the Leche de Tigre. It's this cold seafood soup dish that was just a bit much on the ol' taste buds. The only thing that keeps me from giving this place 5 stars is that the place in LA I went to was that much better. I would say this place is a 4.5 our of 5. Everyone should try it though, it's excellent and I will be back. read more

This little restaurant caught my eye because I have never had Peruvian cuisine before and I was curious how it differs from other ethnic dishes. My sister and I figured we could try it. We started off with some Peruvian drinks, both of which were delicious. The chicha morada had an interesting combination of flavors: grape and clove; nonetheless my sister and I both enjoyed it. We ordered the ceviche and a steak dish for our appetizer and entree. The ceviche was very lemony; I liked the fish and squid the best, but the mussels and shrimp weren't bad either. I felt the onions added great depth of flavor, but my sister didn't like them. The steak dish was much better by far, in my opinion. It was served with sauteed onions, peppers, and tomatoes as well as rice and beans. The steak was so thin; it appeared to be pounded and as a result was very tender. I loved the peppery flavor. Overall, it was a good meal, but it isn't something I would crave. It will probably be a long time before I return. On a side note, their bathroom was on the dingy side. I'd really like to see it cleaned up or renovated as well as maintained better. read more

I left this place feeling robbed! I work in that neighborhood, so I stopped in on my dinner break, and it was terrible! I asked the waitress to recommend something good and what I got was overcooked, rubbery fajita meat on a bed of soggy french fries. Now I have never been to Peru, but I have to hope this doesn't actually resemble authentic Peruvian cuisine (as their sign boasts). Amazing amazing amazing the food here reminds me of when I was in Peru and my opinion about Peruvian food is that it's the best type of food in all of South America. If you like ceviche and you want to have the same exact experience that you had in Peru when you first tried ceviche then come here to this restaurant because it was identical. The tacu tacu also a big winner for all of my kids, my wife had the cabrito, she loved it. We also tried the Peruvian flan and arroz con Leche, we all enjoyed that one. I would not reccomend this place to anyone. To start the Ceviche Pescado was over cooked, the lime juice turned the fish grainy. Also, it was made with ricotto pepper and not aji amarillo, the falvor was off. Skip the Lomito Saltado - the meat was tough, bland and they added bell peppers...not Peruvian style at all. I have to say...we were NOT disappointed. What a wonderful selection of Peruvian dishes! I had the Tacu Tacu and loved it. The Lucuma ice cream (very hard to find) was a great end to a great meal. From the start I was not feeling the vibe in this place the waitress was unfriendly and made it seem like she was annoyed that we were there, asked her what drinks they had she mumbled a few things all I heard was sprite, so we got that. When the drinks came out it was another waitress, I found that a bit rude of the first one but the second waitress was much more attentive. The place looks a lot better on the inside but right infront of the television were, I am guessing, the owner and his wife. The place was dead on a Saturday evening. My sister-in-law and her boyfriend visited Machu Picchu earlier this week and had the worst experience. The manager was inconsiderate, rude, and unprofessional. They ordered a Pollo a la Brasa and when it got to the table, the chicken STILL HAD FEATHERS. They asked to take the plate back and get a new one, but the manager REFUSED to take the plate back claiming that it's how the chicken was cooked. Ventured out here after I spoke with someone at a local VW dealership who happens to be Peruvian. He mentioned this was one of the other few Peruvian restaurants around town. Tried the Parihuela here. Not as good as another place I recently reviewed. The plus though... great tamale and salsa for an appetizer. The parihuela was not as flavorful, but it did come with crab leg and some yucca. So, slightly different feel. Doubt I'll go back again though. This use to be one of my favorites, but now w/ new owners the food was just ok. I don't believe the Chef is Peruvian. They need more of a Peruvian touch to the food and the restaurant itself. I was very unhappy to hear them playing Mexican (Banda) music instead of the traditional Peruvian music. I would definitely stick to Tineo's in Richardson.
