"Tallarín huancaina con Lomo" 8/10, pretty good, good juicy steak and Huancaina sauce, good size but kinda spicy for this typical sauce. Flavor town!!!! The atmosphere is casual service is friendly and attentive and the ceviche was the best! Fresh fish, perfect texture, and great salty citrus flavors that I wanted to put in a glass and drink! Accompanied by the crunchy corn and plump corn sides. Stumbled upon this place while visiting a church and decided to give a try. Coming from New York where there is amazing Peruvian food, I was curious to see how this place would add up. Immediately upon entering I got a very authentic homey vibe. It was around lunch time and the place was moderately packed. Based on the interactions with the servers and the guest I could tell some of these guests had been here time and time before. The service was great, our waiter introduced us to something I've never tried before. It's made with purple corn (literally purple corn, she actually brought one out to show us) however it taste nothing like corn. It's called Chicha morada. It's not too sweet and really good. However my favorite was the half and half mix between the morada and their passion fruit drink. That one is called Maracuchicha and it's divine! The food was good, well flavored and quite enjoyable. I usually order the lomo Saltado when I visit a Peruvian rest. so I got the chicken instead of steak. I prefer the steak. It captures the flavors better and is less dry. They had bakery items on display as well. Staff was friendly. We ordered the breakfast combo which came with a beef empanada, pork sandwich, and a chicken tamales. Their style of empanada was new to me. It tasted buttery and a little sweet. The beef inside was different as well, which had almost a meatball-like texture. Loved the shell, the filling was ok. Still enjoyed it nonetheless. The pork sandwich was delicious with the green sauce. I don't want to write about it because I'm hungry just thinking about it. Get it! Vibrant cafe/bakery serving authentic Peruvian dishes. Family owned and run, from appearances. I'm a fan of Peruvian sauces, e.g. huancaina. The ones I had are homemade. Definitely get an Inca Kola. It's not amazing, but I've never seen one stateside. I ate the lunch #1. It reminds me of the type of Cubano you get in Vedado. Picked onions, fried pork, on top of the sweet potato. What's really unique is the bread. We'll definitely be back to tour the menu more. One last thing, for everyone who enjoys spicy. Ask for a side of the hot, hot homemade orange sauce. The food was really good, I like the potatoes with the cream sauce. I personally got the Cau Cau cause I'm a huge fan of menudo soup. The flavor was very good, the food took a little of a wait to get it but there were a LOT of people there . My husband got the goat meat and that was Delicious! Our last visit was nearly two years ago. My husband had bought another Groupon and "surprised" me. It turns out that I WAS surprised. The overall presentation and quality of the food has improved. The dining area is still concrete flooring with non-matching tables and chairs. It was cold in the dining room today, too, although it wasn't that cold outside late in February. Today, instead of entrees, we decided to try the sandwiches on their fresh baked authentic Peruvian bread. I had the sauteed beef, onions and tomato - Pan con Lomito - and my husband had the Pan con Chicharrón - fried pork and sweet potato slices with pickled onions. ($6.99 each) Last time, I wasn't impressed with the Papa Rellena ($6.99); but I love them! so I ordered it again and my husband ordered the fried plantains. I will say that this time the rellena was larger, with better seasoned potato and ground beef; but their standard seems to be one olive, three raisins in the middle and a piece of egg. Mine was all egg white. Beware - my olive had not had the pit removed. The exterior of the rellena was crispy and the pickled red onions it comes with are to die for. I mean it. It's $7 for this potato so if you are curious and want to split it, it's worth checking it out; but I have had more generously stuffed papa rellenas - more raisins, olives and egg and better seasoned. I added salt and salsa today. The salsas are much much better. Delicious in fact. The green is still fairly mild. The red is hot. The plantains are perfectly cooked; these were sweet ripe ones ($2.50). My beef was not especially tender nor was there much of it for $7, however it was very savory and I loved the bread. My husband loved his pork sandwich. The pork was nice and crispy and he was happy with the size and taste of his sandwich. Service was impeccable when our designated waiter was at our table. Not all staff seemed to speak adequate English for non-Spanish speakers. Again, I feel that there's better Peruvian food out there in Dallas and it's suburbs, so we need to be "choosing wisely." read more

I'm pretty excited to come back here, but I'm going to drag my husband with me next time. He is trying to cut down on his cholesterol, so he has to limit the type of meat he can consume. There was only one other person there. Because of this, my server was very attentive. He brought me a menu to ponder over. The lunch express deals are great for those wanting a combo meal at a decent price. I was going to order one, but my server suggested a beef sandwich instead. It was a sloppy mess on freshly made Peruvian bread. It reminded me a bit of a Philly cheesesteak; although there wasn't any cheese on the sandwich. The beef was sliced into small, thin chunks that were easy enough to eat. Some bites were a bit tougher than others, but the flavor was present. There were lots of grilled onions in the mix, and this contributed to the bread getting soaked quickly. The sandwich began falling apart, but I woofed it down before it did. The server brought a few dessert plates to my table I wasn't planning on having dessert, but he talked me into it just by presenting his favorite. It was basically a creamy custard cup. The flavor was gentle, but I wasn't a fan of the caramelized skin on top. This unpretentious Peruvian diner offers some typical favorites from the region.
