drove by and decided to try this place out. the food was great. there was a lot of really delicious sounding things in the menu, so i will definitely be going there again. we had the appetizer that was a beef stuffed potato, it was great. my wife had the seafood fried rice and loved it and i tried the steak work cilantro pesto, it was very good as well. the orange colored sauce they give on the side was amazing! read more

Lima Criolla Peruvian Restaurant - Latin American Near Me - Austin, Texas

It seems like the unassuming low key restaurants are harder and harder to come by. And even harder for a good one to stay off some list but until this past month I had not heard of Lima Criolla. Jesse and I stopped in on our way to a movie at Galaxy. We walked in and quickly caught cues from others that it is a seat yourself but otherwise full service restaurant and Pisco bar. I ordered their Ceviche Limeño which was a very generous portion. The marinated fish had delightful flavors of lime and aji. The ceviche is sprinkled with herbs and served with sweet potatoes and corn over a bed of lettuce and onions. I loved the darling spot and cannot wait to make my way through more of the Peruvian menu and Pisco offerings. read more

Lima Criolla Peruvian Restaurant - Latin American Near Me - Austin, Texas

We tried this place on a whim because we were in the area and hungry. I went in and ordered pretty much everything on the menu because of how starving I was... but the dishes that stood out the most to me that I would definitely re-order are below. Papa Rellena (deep fried mashed potatoe stuffed with ground beef) - Good potato to meat ratio, the only thing that I added was hot sauce to this because I like everything spicy Ceviche Limeno - I loved how citrus-y this was and it really had a kick to it! The sweet potatoes and large corn kernels kind of threw me off, but it wasn't terrible. I really liked the crunch from the fried corn nuts and I think they add crawfish seasoning in it to give it flavor, which is delicious to me! Aguadito (chicken soup with rice and cilantro) - This soup is so flavorful and refreshing! Definitely a must-order and great choice if you're ever feeling sick. Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos (fried rice with seafood) - This seafood is so good and flavorful! They definitely do not skimp on the seafood. Definitely will be ordering this again as well. Great bang for your buck! read more

Highly disappointed by the food offered by Lima Criolla. It was not delicious or tasty, and did not taste fresh, as Peruvian food normally is. I want to preface that I am giving them 2 out of 5 stars, and that is solely due to the service. The service was friendly and met expectations. But the food, the food was bland, and did not taste as it should have. We were extremely disappointed, since we traveled an hour each way, thinking we were going to eat good Peruvian food. I'm unsure of who was cooking the food, but it appeared that they did not have a familiarity with how to cook Peruvian food. We ordered 2 appetizers: papa a la huancaina, ceviche. Lunch was Lomo Saltado (little meat), Ají a la gallina. Dessert was mazamorra. Every single dish and entre was terrible. If you're looking for good Peruvian food, do yourself a favor and do NOT come here. read more

Service only: I spoke to the owner and made a huge order for my office and asked to pick up at 11:30 on 4/27. I got here at 11:25 and the kitchen hasn't even started the order yet! I'm sorry! This is not acceptable! The whole office is depend on this lunch and I'm the one to blame that I didn't check with them before I leave? I made the order on the 4/26 afternoon and not even 24 hours yet!! Very disappointed! read more

Awful experience. Mediocre food, muggy dark and ugly ambiance and extremely poor service. I would give them negative stars if I could. You can smell the toilet anywhere in the dinning room. Can't imagine how dirty their kitchen where you cannot see is if the bathrooms are a mess. Have gotten sick from the food here before. The wait staff is absolutely horrible and rude. Go elsewhere. read more

Favorite Peruvian place in Austin! The ceviche is packed with generous portions and drenched in a delicious limey sauce. It was my favorite item! The arroz chaufa was delicious as well. It almost reminded me of Chinese fried rice but the flavors in this dish were unique. The Lomo Salteado was tasty and the meat was very lean (my favorite!) Generous portions for all, reasonable prices, delicious taste, and $4 pisco sours are reasons why we'd go back in a heart beat! read more

The service is awful. Food comes out quick but waitresses pay zero attention. I waited half an hour for my water to be refilled, and 15 minutes after I finished my meal before I finally got sick of waving at them every time they walked by (and calling out) and being ignored. So I got up and went to the cash register and requested my check. Which then took another ten minutes to get to me. Maybe if the food was better I would be less annoyed, but it wasn't. I had the ceviche mixo and wasn't impressed. Gave it 2 stars because the food does come out quite quickly, which feels like an oxymoron with how slow the waitresses are. read more

Great little place! Found it by accident and decided hey let try it. We were impressed, staff was friendly and great. Food came out fast and was wonderful. read more

If the fare from Lima Criolla is any indication, I'm definitely a fan of Peruvian cuisine. The ceviche and pisco sours are to die for, and every entree I've tried has been fantastic. The absolute best thing about this place, though, is that when my boyfriend and I went in the other night, our waitress recognized us. The last time we'd been in was not last week, and it was not last month. We had not made it back to Lima Criolla IN A YEAR, due to the pandemic, and she still remembered us! If you want to try delicious dishes and experience great service, Lima Criolla is the place for you. read more

The Aji de gallina limeno (chicken ) has a decent sauce but the most stale tasting chicken. The meat was of very poor quality. A side of plantains at $5 is expensive, especially when some of them were burnt. The lomo saltado was decent tasting but boy!oh boy!literally 5-7 thin chewy pieces of meat. At $12, it is a shame. Both dishes came with a side of rice and the meat and chicken were both atop another starch (potatoes-slices of boiled potatoes for the chicken and fries for the beef). Because the dish comes stacked on the potatoes, you don't notice right away how scant the quantity is. Pretty sneaky that is. The service was okay and the space itself is not too bad. Not in a rush to return for another meal. read more

Awesome Peruvian place in Austin, very affordable, extremely good portions, wide beer variety. Love the decor read more

I'll admit, I've had a miss or two here (overly dry yuca fries, cough cough) but the Aji de gallina limeno is amazing. It's a dish with very tender shredded chicken, potatoes, and olives in a creamy sauce that's flavored with yellow chili peppers, turmeric, and other spices, and served with rice. Their rice pudding is a fantastic end to pretty much any meal as well. If you're new to Peruvian food, or want an authentic taste, come check them out! read more

Would have given this spot 4 stars if it wasn't for the subpar service. I placed an order for pick up that should have been ready by 7:10 pm the latest, when I arrived at the restaurant at 7:30 pm my food order wasn't even started. I had to wait an additional 20 minutes. On top of that, there was a lack of communication between the staff -- one person was working on my order and the next minute someone else was asking me about it... overall super confusing and took a supplemental 40-45 min. The food was good I got a soup (aguadito) and an app (causa). read more

I had a close friend who always told me about this place. She swore it was the best! Finally, after a year, I decided to stop by. This is the part where I tell you what I've been missing out on. The food was delicious! There were both savory and sweet options on the menu. I felt savory was appropriate for a Wednesday. My eyes went directly towards the ceviche, but my wallet dictated my final decision. The lunch special - by far the best option, I think. For less than $10 (always double check) you can get a soup or salad and a lunch plate. It was a complete bargain. As for the flavors, they were all there. The meal tasted homemade and had the aromas of a traditional Peruvian kitchen. There were no regrets. The service was ok. Although I was helped quickly, there was a man sitting in the corner who seemed to be ignored often. Maybe just double check and do rounds more often? Otherwise, I felt good about the attention provided to me. Overall, it was good. The food had a variety of options and I'm ready to try them all. I will certainly be back! read more

The food was AMAZING! The service not so much. Our family ordered a few dishes and this "waiter" who is very arrogant,ASSUMED we ordered mixed ceviche, even though we kept inquiring about the fish being used for the ceviche. When he brought the dish to the table we told him it wasn't what we ordered. He was completely RUDE and FORCED us to pay for this dish, and said he told us multiple times he was serving us MIXED ceviche... a complete LIE!! The kid was so arrogant he stopped speaking Spanish to us and said he didn't speak Spanish... Lol.. ridiculous.HORRIBLE SERVICE! This review should have been a 5 star review but unfortunately he is the reason my review is 2 stars. read more

I went to Lima Criolla a couple of nights ago. They are open for dine-in now. My friend and I was able to grab a table quickly outside before they got too busy. This was my first time here and let me just say the food was great. I went to Peru in 2018 and was able to compare the dishes. I ordered the steak, rice, and egg dish. I also got a beef empanada to start out with. I'll come back here again and try out one of their pasta dish. I am a fan! read more

I've had the food here as take out before and it was delicious! This time I got to go in and try eating there. This is the closest to home cooking I've found since moving here from Peru! Thank y'all!!

This is my second time coming here, I usually like to reserve my review till I experience it more than once, and it still did not disappoint! I had the Lunch special Soup and entree. The soup was great on this chilly day. It was Sopa a la Minuta, and was a lot like a fideo. Great taste and hearty with meat, noddles and sauce. The entree was the carapulcra. It's a pork dish with rice, and great hearty sauce and yucca on the side. Paired with their spicy sauce (the waitress said it was like a version of a habanero sauce), it was delicious! The meat was cooked very tender and the sauce was sooo good. The waitress was so nice and helpful and gave great suggestions! I'll b e a regular! read more

Well I must say I've been to a lot of Peruvian restaurants with my wife's side of the family being Peruvian. I also cook Peruvian food @home this place did not measure up. Not going to lie the carapulcra was very good. However the arroz chaufa was not good by any stretch of the imagination. Arroz con mariscos, sub par. Looking at other dishes coming out to other people you can tell the cuisine was not authentic. Making lomo saltaldo you need one key ingredient FIRE. W/out that you don't have true lomo. It's good food but it's not authentic and the way it is supposed to taste. If you go stick to the appetizers and the pisco. You won't be disappointed. With that being said the main dishes unless you have had true Peruvian food don't expect to be blown away! read more

I loved the ambiance and the food here. I really enjoyed the lomo saltado and the ají de gallina. Of course we had the yuca for starters and it was delicious! We had chicha morada for drinks and it was really good as well. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because they did not have ají verde. Other than that, great Peruvian place to go eat. read more

I have been a loyal customer and today I ordered through Ubereats. The lomo saltado was so bad I now decided I am not sending business to you. The secret of a successful restaurant is consistency. You simply failed. Muy decepcionado. Thank you for responding. You should know that "Lomo" means tenderloin. The meat you use for the "Lomo Saltado" is far from being tenderloin. I was ok with that because you would add flavors to the meat you use. It seems like you use skirt. It would be proper for you to not call it "Lomo Saltado" unless you start using the right cut of meat. Only if you want to be ethic with the products you sell. read more

Really great authentic Peruvian food. We ordered a beef plate (a lo pobre) and the aji de gallina. Both deliciously cooked and beautifully presented. Why the three stars? Well, unfortunately service fell pretty short. No drinks provided until after our meal had arrived. No refills. My boyfriend finished his water and moved onto mine. No checking in on us to see how everything was. Kind of disappointing. I was a server for six years so I get it. But when you pass by my table several times and don't even acknowledge me it kind of bugs. Instead of offering anything or checking in on us we got a "you guys waiting for the check?" We are now, I guess. (We were actually tossing around the idea of ordering some ceviche) Anywho. The food here is solid. But don't expect amazing service. If that kind of thing doesn't bother you, then this is your spot. read more

Love this place! The ceviche is great and so is the Loma Saltado! This is our go to Peruvian spot in Austin!

I have to be honest, I was very disappointed in the offerings of this place. The restaurant was clean. At the time we went (around 7:30pm) there appeared to be only 2 waitresses and 1 cook which, they were clearly over whelmed. I am from the East coast and food is amazing there. This place did not deliver on what I know. I really wish there was a Peruvian place that offered Pollo a la Brasa, not smoked, and roasted over coals because it's the best. I also wish that ceviche was not tilapia (100% of consumer tilapia is farmed and not wild caught- in addition there are many many health warnings out there why NOT to eat it.) I was really looking forward to eating it, but I refused to order a cancer causing fish. https://m.wimp.com/the-dangers-of-eating-tilapia/ Please revisit your menu and update the quality of your ingredients or else I do not see myself returning. read more

I lived in Peru for many years and consider myself part Peruvian. There is nothing more sublime than well prepared Peruvian food. It is really a genre all of its own. Someone from Peru recommended this place to me. I had never heard of it! We started out with anticuchos (beef heart kebabs) and they come with two salsas and choclo (giant kernel corn). Extremely authentic and delicious. Of course, we had the traditional Pisco Sour drink which was very well prepared. The Pisco can creep easily so try one and wait for it. http://www.cleargrapellc.com/pisco I had the Arroz con Mariscos (rice with seafood) which I have eaten all over Lima and an elusive taste for me----as I can never make it taste authentic when I cook it. This was great. Lots of marvelous tasting rice with octopus, clams, fish, etc... At first you think it is all rice, but as you dig in, you find delicious surprises throughout. I would have liked more shellfish, but I am greedy. We also ordered a dish of Ceviche Limeno which was a huge portion and it was amazingly well prepared. It comes with choclo, cancha and a quarter of a sweet potato. My wife had Aji de Gallina which was fabulous. Aji de gallina is a delicious Peruvian traditional dish, slightly spicy and bright yellow from the famous aji amarillo peppers, and rich from the unusual cream sauce made with ground walnuts It was accompanied by garlic rice which in my opinion is only made that well by Peruvians and my mother. For dessert I chose the Suspiro Limeno which is so light and airy. I applaud the owner for not having Americanized the food or the menu. The menu is full blooded Peruvian as are the smells wafting in from the kitchen. The staff is awesome, and loved talking to the General Manager. The food is so good that you overlook the atmosphere which feels cramped, like a pho place. Very utilitarian and when everyone is chatting it gets loud....but who cares....the drinks and the food are ambiance enough. read more
