I'm not a reviewer. I worked in service for 10+ years and my husband still does, so I understand what negative reviews can do to a business. However, we're tired of giving new places a chance and leaving feeling like...what was that.
We arrived uptown and realized there was a soccer game so parking options were super limited. We gave them a call hoping for a valet option but there wasn't one, nor did they have any helpful suggestions of where we may find anything. We ended up at the Ink & Ivy parking lot maybe half a block away. We arrived within 10 min of our reservation.
They sat us at a 4-top in what seemed to be the bar/lounge section. Was a little disappointing since we actually made a reservation. The bartender served us which would've been fine but he seemed pretty busy with keeping up with the bar and couple of tables in the lounge section. This is where it took a hard left. The table we had was so wobbly my husband had to put his foot on one of the legs to keep all the drinks from tipping over. The drink selection was super limited and nothing jumped out at us. I opted for the No Margarita and my husband asked them to make him an Old Fashioned. Both were mediocre. The No Marg listed Strawberry/Mango neither were in sight. No salt/sugar rim just what tasted like margarita mix with sprite. My husband had a drop of drink in his cup which again would've been fine, but it was lacking that pungent whiskey flavor and was just overall weak.
On to the food...whew. We ordered the Angry Jalapeños to start. I love spice...but to eat a raw jalapeño...is just not my jam. It also took nearly 30-min for it to come out, only for it to be raw and really inedible. We opted to eat the filling which was a heavily mayo'd crab-based mix that was pretty good. But the whole point was the grilled jalapeño which ended up just being empty shells on the plate...With very little hope after the failed drinks and appetizer we ordered our entrees. I got the Mediterranean Pulpo (because if there's octopus, I'm ordering it) and hubs got the Black Cod. They brought the Pulpo out before my husbands food...as far as I know this is not tapas-style so it was super awkward waiting for his food, which we assumed would be a few minutes after mine...it was not. A solid 10/15 min later and my husband ultimately told me to go ahead and start eating before it got cold. As a true Southern Belle, I hated this. I quite literally have never had more overly salted and tough octopus, in my life. They chopped it into bite size pieces so there were barely any traces of the tentacles and it was so overly cooked it almost had a bacon-like texture. I ate the veggies but most of it was left on the plate. When husband's cod finally arrived the presentation was overly done. They quite literally had one of the leaves from the plant at the front door on the plate? The cod itself was filled with bones. Like to the point that my husband was picking at least two out with every bite. Expected for like a branzino mayyybe? But we were at a loss after this. The only flavor on the cod was from a table spoon of sauce on the plate and the mashed potatoes seemed to be warmed up because it was super clumpy and cold in some areas. To know my husband is to know he's going to go through a whole water pitcher if you let him. The server never refilled our waters, I guess he was upset we didn't order any more drinks. I had planned to try a sushi roll and dessert but couldn't justify spending anymore money at this establishment.
We paid our tab with an automatic 18% gratuity, pay attention because they won't mention this, and will hand you the tap device requesting an additional tip on absolutely mediocre service. We left still hungry and incredibly frustrated. The host couldn't even be bothered to wish a good evening on our way out. In my head I wanted to say this was a place to take your girls for a little post-work link but I wouldn't spend my money here again. If you're looking for cutesy, Asian-fusion give Savu a try. But I wish we would've gone to our tried-and-trues, Ever Andalo, Crunkleton, Fin & Fino. One and done. read more
