Very good, authentic, Thai cuisine cooked by an owner/chef who is from Bangkok and clearly really cares about providing the true cuisine of Thailand. She has a sign on the wall stating as much: this is authentic, it may take time to cook, it's not watered-down or Americanized--it's what she cooks at home. My red curry left no doubts she means what she says: it was authentic, the curry gravy was delicate and not overly thick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]That's all I had but it was very good and the atmosphere is welcoming and pretty standard for a small East Asian restaurant these days: modern, clean, nice but not in any sense really different or outstanding.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The chef--Birdie is her name--is super-nice and clearly loves what she does. Got there just after 5 o'clock and had a great waitress name Kin, The crab Rangoon, a little small but OK . The pork dumplings were pretty good. My wife got the Penang curry chicken, which we had to send back because it was lukewarm. I got the chicken pad Thai, which was good. We also ordered the pork fried rice that came out as chicken fried rice, but it was very good. Having recently returned from Thailand, this restaurant was just OK for us. read more

We found this unassuming restaurant while looking through yelp for some ideas. The restaurant is located in a strip mall on Beach Boulevard and has limited seating. We were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by the chef herself. It was a unique experience to have a conversation with the chef with subsequently go and cook our dinner! She told me that the restaurant is relatively new with hopes of expansion, and she was currently working to get more staff to handle the demand. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We love the fact that the restaurant was small with a very personal touch as evidenced by the fantastic food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Each mouthful contain tons of flavor. There are three options for spice levels, mild, moderate and hot. We tried the fried wontons and crab Rangoon's for the appetizer followed by chicken green curry and the pad prig pao.. The milk fried tea was probably the best we've ever had. We selected the moderate level, which was very tasty. I know many may have different spice thresholds so medium may be a good place to start. I think next time I may try the hot level. I was also pleased with the fact that there is free parking in the lot. This seems like one of the best kept secrets on the beach Boulevard dining scene. A truly superb Thai restaurant with great food and service! It's been a while since I had Panang with chicken and the helping with lots of green beans and side of rice was almost enough for me to take it home for seconds! But I got more motivation because I loved the dish that I kept going - and promptly put myself into a food coma! My friend had pad Thai - basic dish in a large bowl with a side of brown rice. I will give them a Lil hit because they did bring the wrong side, but it was good enough to give them a pass. It's really just an issue with our server who didn't understand English well, so we did have some communication issues. It's ok - these things happen sometimes in restaurants so I'm gentle when it comes to scoring on this. In all, I was happy with the service, even with the juggling in our communication. My wife and I saw some decent reviews of this new Thai place and decided to give it a try. The restaurant was formerly the Rice Bowl, and before that was Mr. Chan's. The space isn't huge, but it's very clean and bright. The owner is super nice and very enthusiastic about her restaurant and her food. Lunch included either a spring roll or a small salad, which was a nice touch. I ordered the red curry with chicken and my wife the Rad Nah with tofu. If, like me, you have no idea what Rad Nah actually is, it's a flat noodle with veggies in a brown sauce. Oh and we ordered an appetizer of pork dumplings because, well, why not? The pork dumplings were fantastic. The ground meat inside was tender and well spiced, and the wrapping was not overly doughy. Probably my favorite bite of lunch. The peanut sauce dressing on the salad is great as well. I didn't quite know what the dipping sauce was with the spring roll. It was fine, but I didn't love it. The red curry was great. To me it was a touch spice, but I know everyone's spice level will vary. The chicken was tender and the veggies were great, especially the little eggplants. To us the weakest dish was the Rad Nah. By no means was it bad, but the flavors were very understated and I guess we were expecting a bit more from the dish. This place is authentic! For an appetizer we ordered crab Rangoon and pork dumplings. Both were wonderful. I ordered the Thom Ka Gai soup and it was unlike any that I've had. The owner will tell you that she doesn't Americanize their dishes and everything is made from scratch! I ordered the Pad Ka Prow and it was quite yummy. Run, don't walk, to Lil Thai Place!! This gem is tucked in a strip mall but don't let that fool you. The food is authentic, fresh, and delicious. We stopped in for lunch on Saturday afternoon and were rhetorical only a ones there. The owner greeted us right away and talked to us about the menu and how she sourced everything as freshly and authentically as possible. My son ordered the pork dumplings and said, "These are the best dumplings I've ever had!" The pork is sweet and savory and the wrappers were just the right light texture. My husband ordered the Pad Thai and devoured the whole plate. It was light, fresh, and mild. They provided roasted Thai pepper for us to season it to our liking. Perfection! A very unassuming little place. What a great stop though! Sign at the door tells you it's real Thai not "Jax authentic Thai" and it was different. The owner came out and talked to us about it all. She makes everything herself or sources direct from Thailand. Had the Pad Thai which she said is the traditional way to make it. Served with her home made "hot pepper" - which is roasted and ground Thai chilis - this was really unlike any other I've had in town. Very aromatic, very light. Had egg and tofu and a nice sauce but much lighter. Really enjoyed it ate every bite. Also had the pork dumplings which were fantastic. Very sweet soy and fatty delicious pork forward. I noticed the statement advertising traditional Thai dishes and warning customers that the food might taste very different than what Americans are used to so I was extremely curious. I ordered Pad Thai to try it out and really liked it. And yes, it was very different. The best way to describe it would be "mild" in flavor. I found it light and well balanced. It was certainly fresh tasting. I also really appreciated the house made chili oil! The owner/chef was extremely pleasant and I could tell she cares deeply for her craft. My fiancé and I were seeking a Thai Resturant and discovered Lil Thai. I order the Pad Pak and it was delicious. Krystyna was our waitress and introduced us the the Owner/Cook who was very friendly, cordial and helpful. She suggested if we want to substitute vegetables on the menu it was ok. While we keep wanting to try more dishes (we have tried a few), we always want her Pad Pak and Massaman curry, so delicious!, and of course, pandan sticky rice and mango! Hands down the best Thai food in Duval. Beef larb was made from chopped beef (much better than ground beef or strips of beef that we've had elsewhere), and had plenty of roasted rice, onions and green onions. I liked that it did not have a lot of fish sauce which can be overwhelming. Chicken satay had excellent char yet was still juicy and the peanut sauce and other sauce were excellent. Chicken pad ka prow was well seasoned and the chicken and vegetables were cooked perfectly. We have Thai friends who have cooked for us and this is the only restaurant in Duval that we have been to that compares to home cooked Thai food. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice ambiance.
