I was seated, fed, & gone in about 30 minutes. The atmosphere was quiet when I arrived (on a Wednesday around 6pm). I was the only customer except for a gentleman waiting for his takeout order. When I was seated, the waitress asked for my drink order. I ordered water. - I was pleasantly surprised to taste the water. It tasted like cucumber, very refreshing! For dinner, I ordered the Thai Phó, one of my favorite soup dishes. It did NOT disappoint! The broth was so delectable I cleaned the bowl! - I always say, "you know you've got a good soup if it makes your nose run!" - this was definitely true tonight. - the senses were cleared!!! After I finished my bowl of awesomeness, a different waitress came around (maybe one of the owners) to ask how my meal was and to refill my water. With tip, I spent $20 on my hefty bowl of soup. I came to Lamar Thai for a graduation celebration dinner! There's plenty of parking in the lot in front and it's easy to find in the shopping center. Inside, the restaurant space is a little small so highly recommend coming early or calling ahead. Our group of 8 ended up having to split into 2 tables but our wait staff was very accommodating. They don't have a liquor license but we were able to purchase beverages at the liquor store next door and bring them in which was nice! For appetizers, we ordered spring rolls as well as the crab rangoons. Both were so crunchy and flavorful and had great dipping sauces. For dinner, I had the panang curry with tofu, but our group also tried the green curry, pineapple fried rice, and basil fried rice. Everything was so delicious!! I loved how crispy my tofu was. A young lady sat us in the booth all the way in the back and that was the first & last time we received any sort of service... For the next 10-15 minutes we patiently waited & watched the 2 waitresses go back and forth to the 3 other tables. We watched them take orders, bring out food, serve refills, one came back with condiments when asked, they even helped 2 walk in customers with to go orders but not once did anyone come to even ask for our drink order. It was ridiculous! My partner gets socially anxious pretty easily, and when I suggest that we leave he was embarrassed at the idea so we stayed to try and be polite but it got to the point where I was not willing to to spend $100+ on food (WE WERE HUNGRY AND ABOUT TO DIG IN).... I have been eyeballing the appetizer sampler for a really long time now, some authentic thai tea has been on our to try list for a while, the fried banana ice cream dessert sounds absolutely delish, I'm usually a picky eater but I was looking forward to trying something totally new for my entree, and my partner has not stopped asking to try yellow curry for the past few weeks so overall this was a huge disappointment that the one thing between us and some dank food was horrible service from the staff! I'm a bit of a food snob and was hopeful for a good Thai restaurant in my neighborhood because currently I drive 30 minutes to get to one and pass dozens of other Thai restaurants that some people say are great but are only adequate. So when I saw this location, I was very helpful based on reviews, but when we went I was so disappointed by the flavors. Pad Thai is one of the easiest dishes, as it is the kind of quintessential Thai food, but this was so flavorless I couldn't even taste tamarind at all. I will say the staff was very nice. We've searched Jacksonville for a few years to find the Thai restaurant we'd really enjoy. We finally found one. Lamai is one of the best Thai places in the area. My hubby always orders the Thai fried rice as he spent time in Thailand and ate rice everyday. He enjoys it and I find it to be good. I'd like a little more spice. My favorite is the drunken noodles. They are addictive. That kind of addiction that makes you want to eat more and more than to order another serving. They have great appetizers as well. And the service is good. We went to Lamai Thai for my son's birthday on recommendation of a friend, and overall really enjoyed our meal. The restaurant is fairly small, and appeared clean and well kept. The service was friendly and quick with the meals. We had chicken pad Thai, a pork side, white rice side and Massaman chicken curry. The portions were enough, but not so much that we took any home. The spice level is low by default, which was perfect for us. My curry was the best I've ever had- which honestly doesn't mean much with my limited experience, but I will definitely be back for this dish soon. Only negatives were that sodas are by the can so no refills or good fountain that we like, and with few people in and no music or background music or noise, our normal voices with kids felt like we were being very loud. This is my favorite thai restaurant in the area, by far. Their curries are soooo delicious. Curry I do level 3, but pad see ew I order level 4. Sometimes I get level 4 for curry as well. Their spice levels are yum and good, they're not fake spicy where level 3 or 4 is barely anything. They actually have spice and kick. So yum. I almost always order red or green curry, typically with tofu. Sometimes chicken or beef. My mom always gets shrimp and loves it. Their appetizers are good as well. Stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon. A few tables were occupied. The facility is super nice. The staff were attentive and greeted as soon as I walked in. We ordered special rice paper roll as a starter. It has shrimp and pork. It tasted like sausage inside. Came with a sweet chili type sauce. It was good, but not exactly what I expected, but that is not on them of course. At the high end of the price point for 2 egg rolls at $4.95. We tried the Pad Thai with Chicken. This was nice. As others have mentioned, it has a sauce on it that is noticeable. I really enjoyed the pad Thai. The vegetables for fresh and the chicken was still moist and I really appreciate it when you can get pad Thai without the over chicken because that happens a lot of times. We also tried the Pad Woonsen. This is my favorite in a lot of places because it is made with bean thread noodles and I do love them. As with the other item, It was fresh and delicious. The third dish was a fried chicken strip and shrimp dish called Volcano something or other. This dish was somewhat more expensive than the other two I think it was about $11 or $12 which is kind of hard for a lunch dish. The flavor was good it was covered in A sweet chili sauce and came with a side of rice. As an extra bonus the waitress brought us each a cup of chicken rice soup for free which was insanely delicious as well as A couple pieces of spring roll, Also free, which were also delicious . Lamai Thai is a restaurant located in the Oakleaf shopping center, so there is plenty of parking. It is a little small inside, but has beautiful Asian decor that makes you feel like you are in an exotic place. If you look at their menu online, they have a lot of options: from the curry lover to the customer craving noodles, there is something you can find for your tastebuds and preferences. Be aware that the food is cooked mild, so if you want it spicy, you need to mention which level you want from 1-5 (5 being Thai spicy, the hottest). The servers are very kind and tend to what you ask. I ordered a lunch special to go of very spicy (hotness level of 4) massaman curry with tofu, potatoes, carrots, onions, and cashews. The lunch special inherently came with some rice (I got white, but they offer fried rice as well) and a fried veggie-noodle eggroll. The lunch specials are cheap, but they do come with a little less food compared to the dinner servings. I was impressed with this lunch order. They didn't give me too much rice, and the eggroll had a good umami taste when dipped into the sweet orange sauce. I had to drink some milk with this curry because of how spicy it was! I enjoyed feeling the tingles on my lips. However, it was a little difficult for me to taste the other flavors in the curry other than fish sauce and coconut milk, so I will be going down to a hotness level of 3 next time. The tofu was crispy on the outside, but soft and silky inside, so that was a heavenly feeling on my tongue. The cashews were crunchy but a little softened from being cooked. My only complaint is that one of the potatoes and one of the carrot chunks still tasted a bit raw. My order was ready in 10 minutes, so that may be why. Overall, I recommend Lamai Thai if you want some Southeast Asian food that is full of flavor served in a well-decorated area. Be careful when asking for spicy levels because like me, you might end up not being able to taste the other ingredients as well if the hotness overpowers it. read more

We started with crab rangoons - they were served piping hot and were very tasty. Surprising taste with a hint of curry - have never had the filling be anything but plain cream cheese with the crab, so this was a nice surprise. The dipping sauce was very flavorful as well. I am a Pad Thai lover, so I chose shrimp, and my daughter chose beef. Hubby went with a spicier version with pork. The food was served nice and hot, and we all dug right in.
