My usual nail spot was fully booked and didn't have availability so I came here because on their menu they offered presto. They have presto for gel color but it's not the thick one that is typically used at Japanese salons - I should've inquired about this when making my appointment. My nail technician Paula was very aggressive with drilling off my existing gel; I had to ask her to slow down several times because my nails were getting hot. She also did not soak my nails at all which I thought was unusual for gel removal. After my gel was completely drilled off she proceeded to apply an acrylic overlay to my nails (a service I didn't ask for) she told me that it was because my nails were "too thin for gel" - this was when I was informed that they don't have the presto gel base coat that is used at my other salon. I asked for simple sheer gel (they don't have sheer presto colors) with white French tip in the deep curve style (pictured below) and it came out really uneven and the sides of my nails were really messy. They also used some off brand top coat and told me they didn't have OPI or presto top coats which is weird considering they charge extra for presto or OPI but do not have all the necessary products to use them for the entirety of the service. In total this cost $57 without tip which I think is reasonable but I would honestly rather pay more to get what I act Other things: They offer 10% off if you pay with cash. If you're tired of loud, chaotic nail salons that smell like acrylic the second you walk in, this is the complete opposite. Mesa Nails is a private studio, so appointments are quiet, relaxing, and genuinely feel like self-care instead of surviving a nail salon. They also don't do acrylics, so there are none of the overwhelming chemical smells. Asem is incredibly meticulous. Her shaping is perfect every single time, the cuticle work is probably the best I've ever had, and she pays attention to all the tiny details that most places rush through. No thick gel, uneven shaping, lumpy polish, or sloppy chop-shop work here. She removes only the dead cuticle carefully without damaging healthy skin, so I never leave with swollen, over-cut fingers pretending it's "normal." Everything is also exceptionally sanitary. All of the tools are sterilized, sealed, and opened in front of you, which I really appreciate. They also have a huge color selection, whether you're into classic neutrals or something more fun. Every photo I've attached is on my natural nails--no tips, forms, or extensions--which says a lot about the quality of her work. I've never had issues with lifting, chipping, or premature wear. They grow out beautifully and still look polished weeks later. It's one of those rare places where every appointment is consistently excellent. The manager should be ashamed. I'm upset to write this after being a loyal client for two years. During my most recent appointment, I asked the manager about the design pricing and raised concerns about cleanliness. The nail file used on me did not appear to be new, and I noticed debris and residue on the drill bits. When I asked about their sanitation practices, I felt my questions were met with defensiveness rather than clear answers. I paid for the service and even tipped my regular nail tech extra. Later, management told me I was no longer welcome back. (Management took zero accountability and said that this was a decision based upon my nail tech who I considered a friend and was even going to do my wedding nails..) I'm disappointed that raising concerns about something as important as hygiene ended my relationship with a salon I had supported for so long. I encourage prospective clients to look closely at whether fresh nail files and clean drill bits are being used and to ask questions if anything concerns them. This should have been a concern to fix not ban a client over.. very strange and unprofessional.
