Liko's Hawaiian BBQ is a food truck that specializes in offering delicious Hawaiian dishes. At the back of the truck, there is a barbeque that is run by staff where the smell often hits your senses as soon as you walk past them. I was able to try Liko's BBQ recently at Alohafest at Mel Lastman Square, located in North York. In terms of food items, during the event they were offering 3 items: - Aloha plate lunch (includes Kalua pork, BBQ chicken, beef short-ribs, white rice, and mac salad) - Loco moco - Spam musubi (2 pieces per order) My partner and I opted to get 2 Aloha plate lunches and a spam musubi order. The plate lunch was $18 but boy oh boy...the amount of food that you get in one order definitely made the money worth it. I was not able to finish my portion as well and had to save some for the next day. In terms of the individual items in the plate lunch, everything was cooked well. The marinades on the chicken and short ribs were unique. I probably liked the chicken the best. The Kalua pork was tender where it was delicious with rice. The mac salad had some potato in it and was good as well. The spam musubi was delicious as well. I mean...obviously can't go wrong with spam unless you aren't a fan of it. Overall, a great snack portion. LIko's Hawaiian BBQ was a treat! Hope to be able to purchase food from them again in other events they attend.

Had a fabulous cute girl dinner with my close friend at LuluBar…read more Firstly, our server was so enthusiastic and it seemed he was happy to be there. The fried squid was incredible and I can't remember the sauce but it added some umami flavor. Chicken satay with peanut sauce was lovely. And I liked eating the linguine too, the curry-like flavor was incredible. I drank a zero proof coconut pineapple cooler mocktail and it had a nice taste but an interesting aftertaste. Overall very cute place, although I will say it's not super cheap, I do like the family concept of the meals and how we shared everything! I'd say it's 40-70$ per person so make sure you bring enough:)

Our server was a little too much, checked in a little too frequently and didn't give us a chance with the menu. The wine I originally ordered was wrong so he had to go back and get the right one. I'm usually a fan of dumplings, but the lobster ones were oddly tasting, we got the hotdogs but needed a little bit more sauce at the top versus at the bottom that fell out not allowing the full experience. The noodles were recommended to us from the server. The beef was cooked to perfection, but the mix of the overall dish had the flavour scattered and a bit too oily - if you paused while eating, they're definitely was a residue left on the plate. Would I give it a chance again? Probably... But not an immediate rush to return.

I decided to get a Blue Hawaii cocktail, which was beautifully presented to me. My friends also enjoyed their cocktails, and the time to wait for a table went by fairly quickly. We decided to share an order of their vegetarian baos, which were pretty good and surprisingly hearty. We asp shared an order of their tempura corn fritters, which were also hearty and tasty. I decided to get their jackfruit fried rice, which was unfortunately pretty lackluster. I felt like it needed something, perhaps more salt or soy sauce. Other than that, we had a lovely meal here and the restaurant itself was beautiful. A fun place to go out to if you happen to be in Toronto.

Honestly wasn't the biggest fan of the fried chicken as I found it lackluster. I really enjoyed the aloha burger though. Chorizo burgers are definitely more unique and I really liked the flavor and the grilled pineapple (I will always argue in favour of pineapple on burgers and pizzas). We also ordered drinks and they were not watered down which I appreciate. Overall presentation was A+, great place for a casual date with the girls or your partner.

The inside of the cafe is a bit run down: the bathrooms were out of order, very basic tables and chairs, floors generally unkempt, etc. But honestly the state of the cafe doesn't deter me in the slightest. The food is so solid and that's all that I really care about.

We all got different things out the menu and everyone really enjoyed what they had. I got the Orange and General Tso's chicken lunch specials respectively, which came with rice and a Mac salad as well for both. Along with the food, we had some different fruit teas, including passionfruit and mango along with Boba milk tea with Taro. It was a large order so of course it took a few minutes to prepare everything but I think from the time I ordered to the time they handed it to me, it was about 20 minutes. The place isn't very large inside, but there is plenty of room for seating if you wanna dine in or just wait and grab for takeout. Definitely looking forward to my next visit there to try more things from the menu and maybe get a Poké bowl next time.

Chimichurri steak was pretty tasty. It was cooked to medium. Loco moco was pretty good though slightly overcooked. Sides & rice were quite plain. Pork adobo plate lunch (lunch portion): pork was tasty: sweet, sour & salty with some fat. Some sauce dripped down & flavoured the rice. There was seaweed on the rice which gave it an umami boost. Lemonade had a nice texture from the basil seeds & a passionfruit accent besides the lemon. Spam musubi was good. The rice was slightly sweet & sour with added flavour from the furikake. There was a good balance of spam & rice & quite a bit of seaweed. Huli Huli chicken plate was tasty with moist chicken & a hint of chili. There was a good sweet, savoury & sour balance. The slaw had a zesty crisp & an intriguing flavour note.  Butter mochi was very good: rich, chewy & slight crisp at the edges with a nice coconut topping.

Pokito is a Hawaiian restaurant/take out joint located along Queen St. W. near Spadina Ave (close…read moreto Cameron St.). They've been a staple for poke in the area for years, however, their menu has expanded to include more Hawaiian foods like plate lunches and snacks (like onigiri and spam musubi). I recently stopped by Pokito to pick up take out for dinner as I had stumbled upon a $10 coupon from the restaurant over Facebook. Upon entering, the space is inviting and warm, with wooden accents throughout the space. There are several tables if you'd like to dine in. The menu is large and they also have daily deals as well. In the small fridge display they have a sample of their poke on display along with other items like onigiri, desserts, and drinks. Their poke bowls are likely the most popular items to be ordered but definitely don't skip out on the plate lunches as well! I opted to grab a garlic shrimp scampi plate lunch (tail-on shrimp sauteed in buttery garlic sauce on rice (can choose between white or brown rice) with mac salad and a salad slaw) for $22.50. I did have $10 off my order which was great. If you sign up for their rewards program you also get other deals as well (the next deal I get is 50% off a plate lunch for a limited time!). My order was made fresh which took about 5-10 min. I didn't mind as I just sat down to wait. Service was friendly and efficient. I had my garlic shrimp scampi plate lunch for dinner. Beware that the shrimp is really garlicy and delicious! Just be careful if you need to talk to someone afterwards because they will smell it. The rice absorbed some of that garlic flavour which made the rice even better. The mac salad was great and the salad slaw helped to cut through everything as well. Portions were large and I was full afterwards. Overall, a great place for Hawaiian plate lunches (and I'm sure poke as well!) in the Queen/Spadina area. Definitely will return to try more of their plate lunches as well as poke.
