I have also witnessed the guy helping out whenever students are broke by throwing in a few meal or a drink and a kind word though his Russian accent might trick you into thinking he is a russian mafia from one of the Hollywood movies. Could not say enough good things about him and his food. I still try whenever I come around. Definitely worth a try!

I ordered a cheeseburger and fries from the super nice, mustachioed guys inside. They listened to classical music while the fryers were going, which was unexpected and quite nice. :) First, the burger. Don't order one. It's wretched. Nasty mass-produced patty, Costco-quality bun, anemic slice of tomato, sad little lettuce leaf. I took one bite and tossed it. On the other hand, the fries were the best I've ever had. I'm not kidding, they're absolutely delicious. They're chunky cut, skin on, and fried a crispy, beautiful brown. I don't care that the generous portion of fries probably equalled twice my daily calorie allotment. I ate every single one. From the other people crowded around the truck, I learned that I should have had the poutine -- it's supposed to be fabulous. They also have hot dogs and sausages, which I hope taste better than their burger. That said, I'm actually looking forward to being on campus again on Monday just so I can eat more of their delicious frites. Yes, I'm crazy. Crazy about the Blue Chip Truck! (Although next time, I think I'll bring a friend -- otherwise, by the end of the year I'll have my own show on the Discovery Health Channel: The Half Ton Grad Student.)

The crispy gnocchi were coated in cheese curds and smothered in braised veal. What a combination. The gnocchi were not heavy, like others I've tried. They were lighter and absolutely deep fry-able. The veal melted in your mouth. Instead of gravy the jus from the veal did the trick. If you told me I'd be eating a gnocchi poutine last week, I would've said you were crazy. Apparently the Arancini is to die for. At least I know what I'm getting next time!

While at Celebration square on Canada Day, there were various food trucks, the likes of which I've seen a million times (fg, Smoke's, Per Se, Beaver Tails, etc.) but I had never heard of Frankie Fettucine. I saw they had 6 selections, which included a couple kinds of poutine (osco busco was one of them), bacon mac n cheese and sundaes. I decided to get the Bacon Mac N Cheese for $10 as I just had poutine earlier in the day. This was one of the best Mac N Cheese's I've ever had. The pasta seemed like it was hand made, the bacon was flavourful and the cheese, OMG!. This was not your normal cheddar cheese. I think it was Parmesan and it melted so perfectly. I have to say, this is one of the few food trucks I felt I got my money's worth. Verdict:: If I see them again, I will definitely give them another go and hopefully let me ride the bandwagon.

Carne Cartel (a collaboration with Chainsmokers, the urban halal barbecue restaurant with locations…read morein the GTA and London) is a new stationary food truck currently in its Soft Opening, that has taken up residence in the same plaza as Growers Retail in Scarborough. They specialize in halal inspired sandwiches ($10.99) that are packed with flavour. Let me preface by saying that I'm not normally a sandwich person. But Carne Cartel has made me rethink my stance on sandwiches. Even just reading the descriptions of these sandos had my mouth watering. Some of the menu items include: The Cowboy - bbq brisket, creamy coleslaw, crispy onions, smokn'spicy mayo Hot Tit - flamed chicken breast, pepper sauce, garlic hero mayo, cucumber, sweet onions, scallions, BB pickles Hot & Crispy- dredged and fried chicken breast, sweet spicy sauce, garlic herb mayo, BB pickles K -pop - bulgogi brisket, carrot, cucumber, sweet onions, scallions, kimchee Eat my Eggplant - crispy battered eggplant, sweet onions, smokn'spicy mayo, garlic herb mayo, scallions, kimchee, BB pickles We tried the K-pop sando. The sandwich was generous in size and there was tons of flavour in the sauce and thinly sliced but crisped bulgogi brisket pieces. I really enjoyed the acidity from the kimchee and the freshness imparted by the cilantro and vegetables. Also featured during the soft opening were some Filipino inspired dishes from Chef Mark Esguerra's childhood of enjoying his grandmother's (aka Lola's) cooking. Inasal (or chargrill) is a method of cooking that imparts incredible flavours to whatever is being prepared. Using the inasal technique, Chef Mark takes humble dishes like chicken and Loco moco and elevates the experience. We tried the Ma-nok N Rice ($12.99): sweet soy & lemongrass marinated chicken, pickled red chilis, crispy garlic, scallions, jasmine rice. This is no ordinary chicken and rice dish. The grilled chicken leg was so juicy and flavourful. The amazing balance between the salty soy, spicy chili, & freshness of the scallion and lemongrass flavours in the marinade makes this chicken extra special. There are options to upgrade to a half or whole chicken for $14.99 or $24.99 respectively. There is no seating so takeout only. We ate in our car. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu offerings. Highly highly recommend checking them out!

This was one my favorite food experiences in a long time, and some of the outright tastiest #eastsideeats I've EVER had. Up first I sampled their inasal portion of the menu (inasal is loosely translated to char-grilled), simply called The Burger Steak. Reminiscent for me of Hawaiian Loco Moco, this really complex and deep dish gives two (yes TWO) large flattened patties made from AAA chuck, smothered in incredibly rich mushroom gravy and a fried egg. However the star of the show - is their dun' up rice. This rice is Filipino garlic rice, well, done up to 1000. Creamy garlic and chili aoli, crispy garlic, scallions and pickled red chilies. Like, it's not even fair how good this is. Second, the k-pop sandwich is a revelation of flavour - a AAA brisket, char grilled to crispy perfection complemented with cucumbers, carrots, cilantro, bulgogi sauce, garlic aioli and kimchi. I would put this up against ANY smash burger in the city and I bet this sandwich will win EVERY TIME. This place definitely knows how to coax flavour in every bit of their food but also how each flavour complements each other to make the whole dish better. I can't wait to go back! #eastsideeats #torontoeats #yyzfood #filipinobbq

When I cut it open it was red in centre. The other burger was cooked through. I had brought it up and showed them. I explained it's raw. I can't eat it like this. If you can please cook this more. I didn't ask for another burger. I was being nice about it. He grumbled at me took it out back and with in two mins was back the the same burger that looked completely man handled and proceeds to tell me I was wrong, he cooked it right and it is cooked properly what I am seeing is ketchup. I am not an idiot. It was raw. Obviously there was no point to try and ask again. We just couldn't believe the lack of service and the even more lack of pride in what they do. I wish I would have taken a picture. Clearly red and raw. We both agreed it was a clear sign of how they run their business and will be sure to tell all our friends. There are a lot of chip trucks that respect their customers and have pride in the food they make. Stay clear of this place.

Although small, they get very busy, especially during the weekends with takeout/ delivery orders. I decided to order their Mac N Cheese, taco and sandwich as I wanted to try the items they were known for. Overall, I had no complaints with the food, but the only suggestion I'd make is the efficiency as me and a lot of other customers had to wait for more than 20 mins for our food. I had to wait for almost an hour because the worker who took my order placed my items in the heater and basically forgot about me. Also, I didn't get the correct order as I wanted the Bacon Mac and Cheese, and Beef Brisket sandwich but got the jerk chicken versions of both which I didn't mind.

There was a bit of a wait as each item is made-to-order but not much longer than 10-15 min. Reasonable given the number of people ahead of us. Chicken was hot and crispy, bun held up well, kimchi was crunchy and there was a rich creamy korean sauce. The size of chicken is pretty good. 4/5. There were an assortment of food trucks on site but the fried chicken with asian fusion menu of Full Loaded drew me in like a moth to the flame. I decided that I wanted to go with something classic and simple and then pair it with something fun and fusion-y, so I decided to order the Classic Fried Chicken Sandwich and paired it with their Kimchi french fries. Service was backed up but the meal came out within 10 minutes. I got my meal and found a shady tree to sit under so I could enjoy my meal. And that is kinda where it all fell apart for me. The french fries were cold and hard, clearly old fries that had been cooked and sitting for awhile and then topped and served. The flavours of the toppings were ok, very heavy on the creamy garlic sauce and a few pieces of kimchi, but the cold fries ruined this for me. I looked next to the Sandwich for redemption butttt, that too fell short. I was expecting a chicken breast or a large piece of chicken given the overwhelming size of the bread but it was 2 small chicken tenders, no bigger than what you got at Wendy's topped with tomatoes, lettuce and mayo. Being too small for the bread the toppings and chicken were sliding all over the place and falling out, very difficult to eat. Wish I had picked another truck, this dinner fell short and most of the fries and bread ended up in the trash. Eatcrest Out
