I brought in a dress that I needed to be taken in on a Thursday, and was told it would be ready the following Saturday by 4pm. When I went to pick it up, the shop was closed, as was it the following Sunday and Monday. Today (Tuesday), I stopped by the shop and was told that she had not started on my dress as she was sick. She told me to come back at 3 and it would be ready. I came back at 3 and picked up the dress that she claimed to have taken in, and when I tried it on at home, it fit exactly the same as how I purchased it. I am leaving for a destination wedding tonight - and now I don't have a dress for the rehearsal dinner due to poor communication and dishonesty from this business. She never tried calling to let me know she wouldn't be able to finish the dress on time. She never once apologized for the inconvenience. I do not recommend this establishment, take your business elsewhere! read more

I don't know how this woman has 4 stars. The first time I came here, she didn't even respond to me when I said "hello." I wanted her to do an alteration to my maid of honor dress for my sister's wedding. She told me 1.5 weeks would be more than enough time and gave me an exact date and time for pick-up. I left uneasy due to her gruff treatment. During the week I called her and left a voice message twice because I wanted to ensure the dress was ready on time. I received no call back. On the date of pick-up I walked in and told her I was here to pick-up my dress. She looked at me as if she had no clue what I was talking about. I said, "I called you twice to make sure my dress was ready on-time and you told me to come today at this time." She looked for my dress on her rack and it had not even been touched! I was outraged because I had emphasized this dress was for my sister's wedding! She told me she had two "emergency" dresses to do before mine and they needed it asap. If this was true, wouldn't you notify your customer that their dress wouldn't be ready on time? She could care less! She was also going to charge me $70.00 for my dress. Cash only. I couldn't believe the carelessness of this woman. Another business owner would first apologize and try to remedy the situation. She then continued sewing and didn't say a word. I was shocked by this woman's lack of attention. Completely unprofessional! I will NEVER EVER go back here. Recently I brought a dress to Lidgia's that needed to be taken in. I felt that it was pinned well by Lidgia's assistant and was confident that the garment would look great once finished. After it was altered, the dress didn't come back as tight as I needed it to be (its still a little baggy, but nothing terrible). However, when I went to check the dress more closely, I realized that the seams weren't finished (the fabric edges were left raw and ready to ravel). I also noticed that a 4 inch allowance was left at two points resulting in unwanted bulk. I went in and clipped the seams myself so that the dress would lay more flat. The new seams had also not been pressed. Two more things - Lidgia isn't sweet or nice as described in the other reviews. I would describe her as a little crabby and short. That's fine, she's a funny Astoria character and that's part of her charm, but sweet she is not. Also Lidgia smokes inside her shop. My dress did not come back smelling like cigarettes, but it is something to consider if you are sensitive to that sort of thing. read more

Having been to Ligia's twice and after 3 pieces of alteration (dresses and a skirt to take in), I can say that Ligia is a professional and she is good. She runs the shop with her mother, and you can observe the demand that they get during the prom and high wedding seasons by checking out the overstuffed rack in the shop. Ligia is very honest when it comes to what she can accomplish with the alterations you are asking for and with the timeline. She charges fairly, affordable if you compare to places of similar caliber in Manhattan. read more

Amazing skillz. If you care about your clothes and don't want them ruined by speedy work and a careless tailor - bring it to Ligia. Extremely nice woman who does an unbelievable job making your clothes look better than you could have thought. She does not take shortcuts and it shows in the great quality of her work. Very fairly priced - although for more difficult jobs, she charges appropriately. She will always tell you if what you're asking for is not do-able or if it will ruin the garment - which I appreciate! She really knows her trade! When she measures and pins, she makes them perfect! My boyfriend had his suit jackets taken in, I get pants/dresses hemmed there. And I had a few dresses and pants tailored to my fit. Her works is perfect (and I have a very high standard of perfection). Always tell her honestly when you need things done and pick them up on time - if you tell her to rush because you need to wear it, she will always make it priority. They were nice- that's why I'm giving them two stars. However my dress was not altered correctly. My straps that were supposed to be tightened were ignored and my chest area was not fixed. This was a disaster Bc the dress did not fit correctly at my friend's wedding. Make sure you remind them what you need... Bc she will forget. What a waste of money. read more

The worst customer service ever! I went in to get a dress altered and the lady screamed at me from behind a current that she was eating lunch and I would have to wait. When I asked politely how long she would be she responded (in a nasty tone) you either wait or come back. How about you come out from behind the curtain and speak to me in a polite manner. Worst experience I ever had! I brought a pair of jeans just for the hem, she told me to come back after a week. I came back after 10 days and she wasn't even able to find my pants. The place is a mess, thousands of pants, blazer in piles. Finally she took my jeans from a pile of other cloths and they were not even done! She said her mom is the one who can make the double hem and she didn't have time to do it. I asked why she dind't call me and she replied she doesn't have time to call customer! She gave me such an attitude, she didn't even apologize so I asked her to give me my jeans back and I went to another place where the hem will be ready in two days. Never again! This place is horrible, the owner is extremely rude and I don't know how she can still be in business Please trust all the negative reviews. read more

Ligia is legit!!! When I first moved to Astoria two years ago I took her one shirt to be tailored and several others to several different places. Of all, Ligia did the best job and the price was much lower. Recently I brought her a suit I had bought a number of years ago that was not several sizes too big for me But it was a good wool suit and would cost a few hundred to replace. She literally had to tear it down and rebuild it. She charged me only $67 and it was absolutely perfect! It was literally like a brand new suit. Working with Ligia was a great experience. I had a bridesmaid dress that came in SUPER later from the distributor, and needed a decent amount of alterations, but also had extended travel which made my window where I could be present for alterations very small. Ligia made it all work, so I was able to pick up the dress on the one day I was in town before the wedding, and it was perfect. She was just recovering from being sick, had tons of customers, and still able to accommodate me and my crazy timeline. She's definitely no-nonsense, but I really like the honesty. read more

I love this woman and her mother. She is direct, honest, and fair. This is the second time I have gone to get a bridesmaid dress altered. Not only is her work fantastic, her prices are fair. The tailor at David's Bridal had priced the alterations at $115 (4 weeks), Ligia did it for $35 (5 days). My second dress needed to be done in one week. Ligia was going on vacation, so scheduled me early the next day for a second fitting, and had her mother come in to finish it and give it to me on time. Wonderful women! read more

Great quality, great price. I had a dress shortened by Ligia recently, and it came out perfect. I was initially worried that she was pinning it shorter than I requested, but when it was done, it was exactly the length I wanted it to be. As a warning, she doesn't speak much English so if her daughter isn't around, it can be tough to get a price quote or pick-up day/time (which is what happened to me)-- however, I called back to confirm the price and ready date, and there were no issues. Contrary to one of the other reviews here, I found Ligia to be perfectly nice, and I didn't detect any signs of smoking in the shop. I'll definitely return for other alteration needs! read more
