Asked to get my pants hemmed a certain way, showed a photo, etc and all was set. Came back the day they were suppose to be ready to see them lying out, untouched. Came back a few days after that and they were hemmed badly and not at all how we had discussed. I think they were just running late and did the easiest thing they could. And the rudeness! Great shop in sunny side. I went in to both hem and fix a zipper on a dress for a wedding. They were able to help me and did an amazing job on the dress. It was opened up and the bottom was cut to my height. It was done within a week and a bit (I wasn't on a time crunch). Great service and would definitely come back! read more

With so many great reviews of this place, I'm hoping I'm an outlier. That said, I've been here at least five times and had no less than 15 pieces of clothing worked on and every single one of them has fallen apart in two (or less) times of wearing it after. Came up on Raymond's after looking for a good tailor shop in Woodside. I decided to start getting my clothes mended rather than automatically considering buying something new. I figured that's better than constantly throwing out clothes and creating more waste in the universe. Initially, I went in with some jeans, two suit jackets, and a few others things that I can't remember cause it was so long ago. The work on the jeans wasn't exactly stellar and I had to come back a few weeks later to get them done again. The suit jackets all came apart after being worn once. I had the sleeves shortened. It was really unfortunate. I came here multiple times afterwards hoping that it was just a fluke, but after the work on my fall jacket fell apart, I'm kinda giving up. I had two zippers replaced (main and a pocket) and both have fallen apart. It's frustrating cause I wanna give the community my business, but it's hard for me to make an argument to go back. I don't know whether they just always rushed my clothes or whether they're using some cheap thread (is that a thing) or something else is going on. It's hard to believe it was a time issue though as they never offered to do anything sooner than 7 days and I was always amenable in waiting the week -- nothing was ever needed critically. Again, I hope I'm just some crazy outlier, but I gave them soo many chances and the trust can't be restored. read more

I needed my wedding dresses tailored. I didn't even have to tell them what needs to be altered, they've already knew what needed to be fixed with just a glance. They were able to adjust the chest area to fix better to my petite shape. In addition, they were able to trim the tail but kept the lace part of the dress like it was never altered at all. I went to get a dress altered, their price list states dress alterations $10-$20. Do NOT BE FOOLED! He ended up charging me $40 just to simply to cut a bit of fabric from the bottom and sew it. The way he wrote it on my receipt, it looked like he was charging $10 but when I went to pick up he was like "oh I don't put all my prices on the price list". Hey guys! Just picked up my clothes after a month but they were really apologetic when I came. They told us that during the fire that the first thing that they saved was the clothes so I appreciate that especially since I bring designer clothes here every week. I don't think that they could call to let the customers know because literally everything was destroyed. I believe they have 2 working machines now so I'm bringing some things to be altered next week. On a general note, I really love this place. Yes, I must keep the trend of 5 stars going. Stopped in here to drop off several items. Between Wifey and I, both of us had 4 pairs of pants to be hemmed and she had 1 dress to be tailored around the waist. There's a small changing room in the back so try on everything to be tailored. The price was about (+/-) $30 for everything and we were able to pick up less than 2 days later as requested. This place is a legit find thanks to Yelp. It's a only small local shop just around the corner from the 7 train Woodside/61st Street stop, but the service is efficient and final product is great. read more

I have nothing against the employees or owner, but the store is not organized. I came in on a Monday to get my pants tapered and reduced. I came back on the day they told me to which is Wednesday the next week. They asked me to come back in an hour (because they haven't started it). I asked for the pants back, obviously they will just rush it and do sht job on it. They pull out my pants from a pile wrinkled and full of holes. Waste of time. read more

Theyre okay with their alterations but the price keeps changing for some reason and not quite friendly when you approach them as a customer. He told me 6days for a quick alterations that I asked for and he wasn't happy when I asked him if he can get it done on Friday but when he made a mistake on my trousers before, he was willing to get it done in 15mins.. Had a men's casual shirt taken in at the shoulders for a measly $15! Significantly less than the $40+ I was quoted elsewhere. They did a fine job--though did notice some small food stains inside the shirt that I don't think came from me. Washed out just fine though. Second visit, I had cord jeans and wool dress pants taken in at the waist and hemmed. Both were done flawlessly. Definitely worth the trip from the city-- only 2 stops on the 7 express. read more

Drop a dress to be alter which was $40 bucks to just hem the bottom which he told me it would be ready in one week . Arrive one week later (something told me to check it) and saw it still had the pins attached and wasn't done! I was furious because I had a appointment with my hairdresser & makeup artist. He literally made me wait 45 mins to do it because he had other clients in his store. He was arrogant and made some excuse that "he thought it was the following week" ! Knowing that I was probably asking for a big job, I asked the gentleman if he thought my alterations would be possible. He responded with "whatever the customer wants, we do". I've had a couple items altered here. Having the hem shortened on a (silk-lined) dress cost $18. Taking in a skirt cost $20. I was bitching about it internally, but I guess $20 is average for taking in both sides of a lined wool skirt. The staff is totally zero-affect, even annoyed-seeming, which always throws me off. But in terms of craftsmanship, they do a good job. You really can't tell any change was made. There's great attention to detail and they worked adeptly around beadwork. The problem is that both times, the garment didn't come out at all the way I'd asked. For the skirt, I asked for the lower sides to remain wide so that the formerly straight shape would become A-line. Instead, they did the opposite, cutting down and giving me a tulip-shaped skirt. For the dress, it was handed back 5 inches shorter than I had asked for!!!! I have no idea how this happened, since I even put it on in the store and indicated how short I wanted it. Tea-length was supposed to become knee-length - but now a beloved dress is a weird poofy mini that I can't even wear anymore without flashing everyone. I don't know if they made a major mistake, or didn't remember my request, or if they just have a knack for making executive decisions above the customer's preferences... I still might give them another shot because of the quality of their work, but make sure you communicate VERY clearly what you want, and maybe even ask the person who takes your request to WRITE IT DOWN so they remember. Note: For both alterations I was quoted 3-5 days. I was told they close at 7pm but I made multiple attempts before 7pm (one of them as early as 6:15pm) and they were consistently already closed. Urgh. Furthermore, they only have one small dressing area and can get pretty busy before close, so if you can make the mark yourself or otherwise avoid waiting for the fitting room, that helps everyone. read more

I thought that the price for taking in a jacket was a little high ($40) and have since found another tailor that talks quite a bit, which I am very happy with. It's true, Raymond doesn't talk much and does his job VERY well. But it still left me in the dark a lot. I try to avoid car mechanic syndrome; you come in with a problem and the person working has all the knowledge and prices while you are left totally in the dark. That leaves me feeling frustrated and unable to understand or judge the quality and truthfulness of the workmen. Back to Raymond, his shop is small, intimate and he's all business. Judging by the quality of his work, it seems like he's been doing this a long time. I was very satisfied with how my garment came out and it seems like the vast majority feel the same. I feel that was an unbelievable, unbeatable price. B4, I went to Raymond's, I called other tailors to compare prices for zipper re placement, I was quoted $13., $18. and $27. So, when Raymond told me $7.00, I was glad to get a bargain. I bought the pants in on a early Thursday afternoon, and I was told I could pick them up the following day. I've gotten over 25 items tailored here in the past year. The tailoring is great here. Raymond is a quiet guy who does his very best to complete the assigned task. Over the years of playing football and basketball, I developed a big backside and big legs. My waist is a 32, but don't be fooled: i still have to buy pants that are 38 in waist to compensate for my glutes :(. With that said, Suits bought from the store do not fit and often times feel like my jewels are being squeezed of their vitality. So I come here to get the waist expanded and the leg opening of my pants closed in to create that slim-fit look so many New Yorkers desire.
