I brought in two Hickey Freeman suits. Jimmy did major alterations on both and had them done within a week, all for much less than one of those tailoring specialists in Manhattan. Bringing in my dress shirts next. read more

Jimmy is the sweetest soul I have ever met. We called him as soon as we arrived and he came out to greet us and even told us we can block his driveway (if you live in / are familiar with the area you know how hard parking is). He greeted us with a big smile and was eager to help! Unfortunately what we needed done had to be done with a special machine that is hard to come by. He did however recommend a place that was able to help. He was so sweet and so welcoming and seems like a local favorite. I would definitely come back to him for anything I need including dresses I need fitted! What a saint. All the love to Jimmy! read more

Jimmy recently did the pictured suit for my wedding. To put it into context I bought a 48 jacket off the rack to fit my shoulders, chest, and back and a 38 pant to fit my thighs. Both were huge when I bought them and Jimmy did a phenomenal job brining both in and adjusting my sleeve length. He also added a vent in the back of the jacket (see pictures). He did all of this in about a week and a half for a pretty reasonable price. He's very kind and was great to work with as it was my first time with a tailor. I'd highly recommend. read more

Jimmy is one of the finest tailors around. He retired from many years as a highly regarded menswear tailor in the city, and now works from his home just south of Ditmars. He is kind, he is affordable, he is detailed, he tells you the best way to wear your clothing. We used to use a dynamite tailor in our near-by cleaners when we lived over by the Park off Ditmars, but when we moved over by Hoyt we looked for a while but couldn't find anyone we could trust. When I read about Jimmy on Reddit, I thought he'd be mad expensive, but he's not, and after the first hem of a pair of pants, and then taking out a jacket for me, we ended up taking our entire closet to him to do all those little things that turn a jacket in to a smart looking piece of clothing just by adjusting the sleeve length, and a regular pair of pants in to something smart and expensive looking just by having the hem break where it's supposed to. We can't recommend him more highly. read more

awesome. Good guy, great work, good prices, and convenient. Very fast. I will be back.

Jimmy is an older gentleman and an assassin with the needle! He sewed 2 patches for me, and when I picked up my jacket, I was shocked! Looks like it came factory sewn. Transparent stitching, and he is a true master at his craft. Highly recommend. Thank you, sir, and God Bless! read more

Quick, not expensive, and does a very good job. Jimmy himself is also very friendly! I will definitely be going back.

Jimmy may have been a great tailor once but unfortunately that is no longer the case. I dont want to be unkind but Jimmy didnt take any notes when I went for a suit alteration which is very atypical. I come back a week later and he has done a terrible job and made the wrong alterations. He then apologizes and says he forgot and I should come back in a day. Lo and behold I go back after calling him and he hasn't done anything. He asks me to come back once more and I'm like no thank you I've had enough. He then wants me to charge the $130 for the alteration he never did. I end up paying him 60 instead for completely running my suit and returning it to me with the insides open. read more

Needed to get a dress hemmed for a wedding that was in a week so I was nervous about getting it back in time but the turnover was so quick! I got it back the next day and he did a great job. I was a little worried because I pre-marked how much needed to be cut, and my mark wasn't exactly straight but it was perfect when I received it back. The lines were clean and it was exactly where I needed it to be hemmed. I would definitely come here again. read more

Amazing tailor and gentleman. Very close to downtown Ditmars and got my suit tailored in just 3 days.

Jimmy always does a great job. I have told all my friends and family about him. I highly recommend him.

Jimmy helped me get my suit ready for my wedding at the last minute. Perfect fit too. Highly recommended.

Jimmy is amazing! He has tailored dresses for my and suits for my husband. Always has fast turn around time with great quality of work.

Jimmy does it all! I've been going to Jimmy for the past 3 years and will not go anywhere else to get my suits tailored. From entire jacket shortening to pant leg tapering, he executes any task with precision. I'm 5'7" and have a hard time finding jackets and pants that fit correctly, so I go to Jimmy to adjust any suit I purchase. I trust Jimmy with suits worth over $1.5K. Simply put, he does it all and I highly recommend his services. read more

Jimmy did a fantastic job tailoring my wedding suit!

The biggest crock of shit tailor without a store sign in Astoria! I took some pants that needed stitching where legs meet from being worn out from walking. After showing me into his "business," which was a house with no sign at all, he looked at holes in pants and said he could not sew them and offered no reasons. I was so pissed at this dumb shit illegal tailor and pissed I feel for his 5 star Yelp review, I wanted to egg his house. I took pants to Jimmy the Cleaners (way better Jimmy with actual store but less Yelp reviews) on Steinway and 25th Ave. The lady there did an amazing job. Fuck "Jimmy the Tailor" take your pants needing crouch mending to the better Jimmy....Jimmy the Cleaners on Steinway. read more

Jimmy was alright. He's a nice gentleman and all don't get me wrong but as far as tailoring is concerned I would not necessarily rate him as highly as everyone else has. Had him hem my pants and he opened the pockets on my suit. Overall the job was a little messy. The pockets weren't fully opened and he left the loose thread hanging around so I had to clean it up when I got home. This was the case for all the pockets as none were fully opened. The hem was decent but for $30 for one pair of pants I would have expected a better job. The stitching was not perfectly lined up and even the fold was not perfectly lined up with the inseam. By no way did jimmy do a bad job but the 2 stars is mostly because when you pay more you expect better service and he didn't live up to the price. If he charged say $15 for the hem instead of $30 then I would be giving it 4 stars instead. read more

Jimmy does the honest job.He did couple suits for me, and they turned out better than I expected. Truly professional, polite, on time, clean, and the best of all is price. You can't beat that. Highly recommended. read more

Edit - I had to reduce my stars from 5 to 3. Jimmy quoted me a couple things for free because I was getting a bunch of work done by him, then he changed his mind, crossed it out on the ticket, and decided to charge me an extra $60. Not happy. read more

I'm sure he's very nice, and a good tailor. But I'd suggest that if you are female, you probably shouldn't waste your time calling him, as it seems he is generally only a tailor for men's clothing. (I wish realized that before. It was only today that I really 'studied' all the great reviews, and now I see that 95% are from men, and regarding their suits. I saw a few reviews for women's tailoring, but the reviews were from many years ago. Another female also indicated that she too - just like me - was told he doesn't tailor women's skirts...) When I called today, I was going to ask about his replacing the lining in a wool coat. But before I could even get to that, upon hearing my (female) voice, he said he only does tailoring for men.... 'no dresses'. I should also add he was a bit hard to understand on the phone (and btw, I am very accustomed to speaking and understanding people from all over the world with a range of accents...but he was a bit hard to understand). He then mentioned again how he 'doesn't do dresses', and when I TRIED to clarify that I wasn't looking for him to do a dress, I couldn't even get the sentence out, before he went on again about how 'I can do a jacket or pants or ...'. I decided it was pointless...he was hard to understand...and it seemed he was immediately ready to write me off as a potential customer because I was a woman...and I guess that the only thing women ever want tailored are.... dresses?? Guess I'll have to try someplace else.... ;-( read more

I had been searching for a great tailor in Astoria for a long long time. Given my slender frame, I have to get just about everything taken in so that I'm not swimming in my shirts. I didn't want to go to one of the high-priced tailors in Manhattan, but I still wanted someone do a good job on my shirts and suits. Jimmy was exactly who I was looking for. Jimmy has an extensive tailoring background as he used to do alterations at Saks, and he does an excellent job with suits, shirts, and pants. Jimmy made the clothes fit perfectly to me. At roughly $20-30 for shirts and pants and $100 for the suits, his prices are very reasonable given the work that he does. Jimmy is also one of the nicest guys I've met in Astoria, and he is a pleasure to work with. He'll meet with you any night, during the week or weekends, and is very accommodating. Going forward, I only go to Jimmy for my alterations. read more

I asked Jimmy to tailor my suit because he was so highly reviewed on Yelp, and I admired his decision to run a business from home. When I first stopped by, he looked at me in my suit and asked why I came for a fitting? I said because I assumed my suit needed a lot of work. He said it fit me perfectly. Besides a quick hem of the pants and some work on the pockets, he didn't think I needed anything else done. The man was honest. He could've taken lots of my money if he wanted to. He could have made me pay extra for a rush fee (since I'm getting married in one week), but he didn't. I'm very pleased with his work. I highly recommend Jimmy to anyone in LIC or Astoria! read more

Let me start by saying that Jimmy did a great job taking in my pants. I lost a lot of weight, and he got the pants to fit perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate to go to him for that service. My jacket, however, did not turn out well. I brought it with a small hole on the sleeve. Jimmy told me that there were people who did a special kind of weaving who could repair it, but that he would sew it with some thread from the suit, and it would look good. Bottom line: it didn't look good, and I don't think Jimmy was happy with it either, though he didn't say so. The repair was a very noticeable dark lump of thread. I hope that the weaving repair can still be done elsewhere. I really feel Jimmy shouldn't have taken on that repair. read more
