I gave this guy my son's coat to replace a broken zipper. He told me to come back Saturday. Wrote it on the ticket. That was totally fine. But when I came back it wasn't ready, he had done nothing on it, & told me come in Sunday at 1pm. When I tried to ask why nothing was accomplished he started to shout, and when I tried to confirm that Sunday it would in fact be done, he ripped the ticket off the coat and told me to get out. Never in MY WHOLE LIFE have I ever had an interaction like this with a tailor, and I've been to lots of them. This was an insane interaction after I had just watched the owner have a DIFFERENT fight with a DIFFERENT customer. Terrible. Awful. Never use this guy read more

I've taken clothing to him three times in the last month. He's five stars because of: - price - willingness to work - knowledge of tailoring - knowledge of classic men's wear - ability to do custom requests I give this criteria higher value than his shortcomings: - the shop is indeed extremely small. The "fitting room" is a curtain loop around some bent metal. You're protected from the window, and if you're accustomed to changing in front of men (i.e. gym locker rooms, etc.) this isn't an issue. That said, I could see me possibly having to stand in front of the curtain "gap" for my wife, or holding it shut it my hand. - he does get easily flustered. Because I'm constantly exposed to this cultural phenomenon (many older hispanic men behave this way, my father included), I'm not shocked when he flies around the counter, doing a few things at once, getting exasperated with phone calls, or a forming line at the door. His phone etiquette isn't great, there's no denying that. His english ability doesn't compare to his spanish speaking ability, so you're not getting the full breadth of his personality. He also doesn't like getting spam calls, so he's on edge that the calls might be a robot. I've picked up on this as a native Spanish speaker, as he complains to his assistant. - he does occasionally miss details. I'd asked for trousers to be tapered, and they weren't. He apologized profusely and said I could come back for them the same day. You will need to: - be patient in communicating. If you speak English only, this could be a major challenge. I've spoken to him in spanish, save for one term I didn't know in Spanish (beltloops, which he calls "tirillos"). - understand that he's from a different culture. He does warm up to you eventually, he even cracked a few jokes with me on the second and third visits to his shop. But overall, this guy is a gem. He's not getting any younger but he does have the old school mentality to work hard and prove his worth. I highly recommend him. read more

I used Aridio several years ago at his old 30th Avenue location to hem some suit pants. Happy to find him again on Steinway Street by Ditmars. Recently took 2 blazers in to have the sleeves shortened about an inch and he did a great job working with the thicker fabric and reattaching the buttons. The charge was $35 per blazer and without a rush it took 1 week. FYI it's cash only. It also helps if you speak Spanish, but it's not necessary. read more

So happy with how my dress turned out and how quickly I got it back. I took a sequin dress to be hemmed and to close the chest a bit and Aridio did a great job. I took two dresses to have loops added for straps that I was buying separate. He sewed two pieces of thread into the front and back which isn't what I asked for. It was also difficult to communicate with him which makes getting a job you need done the way you'd like. I paid him but was unable to get bra straps into the work he did. Agree with the other review - forget about trying to ask a question over the phone. He's incredibly rude and cut me off, asking me to just come in. That's not the way to get new customers. Especially because I was asking if he had a special machine that is able to sew stretchy material. Avoid. See all the other reviews. He just does what he wants, like makes up alterations you didn't ask for or want. He'll forget to do part of an alteration and then argue with you about it. I am very disappointed and annoyed at aridio. I took him my suit pants one week before i had a very important interview that i needed to look good for. And since i read his reviews i decided to go to him. When i arrived and met him he was very rude to me and did not listen to what i wanted. As if he was doing me a favor. He barely speaks english so that also adds to the whole struggle of trying to explain to him. I returned after a week a day before my interview and he couldn't find my pants. After a good 15 minutes of searching it was under a whole pile of trashy clothes creased and covered with threads and still not even done. I told him i need it latest tomorrow morning but he refused and threw the pants at me. I felt like i was negotiating a deal with this guy. He stapled my pants as if its a poster to hang on the wall and now has holes in it. Biggest waste of 15 dollars. Do not bother going to him unless you want to get a really bad service. This man is amazing. I needed a full suit for my boss made out of novelty fabric for Halloween. I needed it done well, and quickly. Not only did he make the suit within two weeks, he did so with only 1 initial visit to measure and 1 visit to fit. He didn't bat an eye at the strange fabric, and even though he knew it was for a costume, he still made the suit BEAUTIFULLY. I can't stress this enough. He is an artist, and very proud of his work - he loved to show me photos of other suits he had made. Also, his prices were amazing, almost unbelievable, for a handmade suit (we did provide the fabric ourselves, which probably helped lower the price). Yes, there is a major language barrier - he does speak English, but it seems to be limited. Even though I speak a bit of Spanish, I believe he's Dominican, so it's a much quicker dialect, and I couldn't communicate very well at all. However, I read the reviews, and I came prepared with photos of exactly what we wanted. I wrote instructions in English and Spanish (it's often much easier to read another language than it is to understand it when it is spoken), and he and I did a lot of nodding, and pointing, and even some sketching and he kept all of the notes I gave him and we discussed directly in his notebook. Just be patient, and be prepared. People raved over the suit - and couldn't believe that I got it locally made in Astoria. I can't recommend him enough. I sent another friend to him to get his suit majorly altered, and it also came back beautifully done. Mr. Aridio is a rare talent, at a reasonable price, and you just can't find work like this anymore. I only wish he also made suits for women, cause I'd go there in a heartbeat!!!! I went to Aridio with a quite unusual project -- needed something fixed on a ski jacket. In fact, I found his shop accidentally, on my way home from another tailor who refused to take the job. Had already been to four different tailors -- two of which very highly rated (I wonder why) -- each one told me it's a very complicated job and nothing can be done. (One even estimated that the job would cost four times as much as the jacket -- MSRP $400.) Aridio saw the jacket, inspected the details, asked some questions, and said, no problem! Couldn't believe my ears... He was very friendly and the first person ever who not only didn't have an attitude, but seemed excited to do it! I needed a tailor last week and Aridio's was the closest one to my apartment. I was a little unsure what to expect based on other reviews, but, I have to say I had a great experience. I needed the sleeves of my suit jacket shortened for the following day. He said no problem and that I could even pick it up at the end of the day. When I went back the sleeves were done and the price was reasonable. Oh, and I don't speak Spanish, so not sure what other people's issues are with that. So i read a few positive reviews and gave this place a call. Man answers phone and i say hello and proceed to ask him a question. He didn't even let me finish my question before he rudely cut me off. He clearly misunderstood what i asked so i tried asking again and he cut me off again. I decided to ask if he spoke spanish. Went in to get a new rank sewn on my military uniform. When it was finished it was off center and crooked. It would have been fine and easy to fix, but I was treated extremely rudely when I raised the issue. I wouldn't trust this shop with any of my clothing and recommend staying away from it. read more
