I cancelled the other venue immediately. It was the best decision I made in the entire planning process. Charlie, the venue manager, was awesome. He assured me I didn't need to overspend to create something magical. He supported me from start to finish, responded to every concern, offered creative solutions, and genuinely cared about us having a meaningful, joyful event. After the bat mitzvah, when I needed help navigating some vendor issues, he stepped up without hesitation. That level of support was priceless. Our guests were taken aback by how gorgeous the room looked and how special the atmosphere felt. I want to give lights on Kent 5 stars, but it's genuinely about a 3 1/2 - 4 because of some crucial reasons. I had my wedding shower/pre-reception here on 9/21/19. Bad 1) It was VERYYY challenging to get in contact with the proprietor to schedule a viewing. A venue canceled on me, and I was scrambling to lock this venue down. It's a very popular spot, and I was afraid the date was going to get snatched up before I could put a deposit down. Now things could have changed since then, but back in December 2018, it was rough! 2) parties must end by 12 AM on the weekends. I was so disappointed by this. I wanted my party to end at 1 AM, but the venue is in a residential area, and I have read posts of residents complaining about the party-goers. 3) what you can and can't do at lights on Kent seem to vary depending on who do you have decorating your event. I Wanted candles, sparklers, and a smoke machine for my event, but I was told they weren't allowed. On Instagram, certain vendors that regularly decorate there used all three of those restricted items. Their in-house decorator does not use those items, but seeing posts of those items indeed did confuse me. I brought it to the attention of the co-owner Marilia, and she said that they have a third party running their social media and was unaware of the restrictions of the venue. I'm not sure if the team is on the same accord yet, but I was disappointed I wasn't able to use those items. Not so bad 1) parking is not the best 2) the venue is pricey Good 1) LOK is stunning! We got compliments all night how Beautiful the venue was, Stark contrast to the toned-down exterior. 2) round tables and ghost chairs are included 3) Very clean, bathrooms spotless! 4) the staff was great! Alex was friendly, didn't have much interaction with him, but what we did have was pleasant. I liked his personality. 5) everything went smooth. The first time I went to LOK was for a baby shower back in January 2017. When my fiancé and I got engaged, I knew exactly where our shower would be. I've seen other reviewers give this venue negative press but it's clear those individuals just want to be mean. To clear up any misconceptions from those negative reviews please see the following (which may or may not have changed): - 1 room is 8 hrs total (6hr event, 2hrs to prep) - 2 rooms is 10 hrs total (6 hour event, 4 hours prep) - Accommodation for 150 seated guests (180 for 2 rooms) - 15 round tables or 18 round tables - 150 clear/ghost chairs or 180 clear/ghost chairs - 1 security guard - Cleaning staff (for after the event) - Customized uplighting  - Sound system (you or the dj has to provide an aux cord) - large deep freezer - 1 sink behind the bar - 1 ice maker (Alex actually went to get ice since it was broken for our event) The customer service was awesome. The venue is awesome. One room is enough space for most events but because there are only 2 hours to set up the main room... MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AT LEAST 5/6 PEOPLE HELPING YOU DECORATE!! With that said, my ONLY suggestion to Alex & Marilia is to think about giving customers 3 hours to set up the main room instead of 2 hours. Other than that, everything was perfect!!! read more

Baby Shower Canceled due to the COVID-19. My daughter's event was planned for April 12, 2020. Due to the restrictions of 50 people or less than it went down to 10 people of less. Because of COVID-19 and social distancing. We request a refund. We initially paid the $1000, no refundable fee. We then paid for the whole event. They refused to refund my payment for the second payment of $2900. They stated that she could use the money toward another event within the same year. It a baby's shower, which she is due in June. They told her to apply for the baby's 1st birthday, which she did not celebrate any birthday due to her religious beliefs. Then they further insulted her by saying go and try to sell your date to someone else. REALLY We understand this is an unexpected, unusual circumstance. But then they claim it an act of GOD; therefore, she can't get her money back. Really where in the contract does it say that no fund do to an act of GOD? Which it is not. Lights on Kent may be a pretty place, but the ugly comes out in the time of need. They can get help from the small business center. My daughter and her husband can't get that money back. It is their first child and our first grandson. They are horrible People don't use them if you think an act of God may happen because you won't get your money back. read more

Lights on Kent (LOK), is a place where all you have envision with creating an event of your dreams come true. I came here over President's Day Weekend for one of my friend's baby shower. From the outside it looks like a regular warehouse and you might miss it so it's best to have a balloon on the door or anywhere near the door to let your guest know where the party is. Once you go in you are at awe with the place. With bright lights, white walls and floors it brings out the decor in every way. Very elegant chandeliers through the room and crystal clear chairs. Not your typical old school venue. My friend is expecting a boy and they had blue lighting throughout the room, I couldn't believe my eyes of how pretty this place is, I asked my best friend how she manage to pull everything off with creating everything (I'm here thinking she used Pinterest) and she said that she contacted LOK and got in hold with the event planner and she organized everything, from them switching theme ideas, food, cake, DJ, photographer and who knows what more. They even had a back room where they had the catered food and I was told that you can use this as an extra space or use it as a kids room. I had my daughter's Sweet 16 at the beginning of October 2019 and was extremely satisfied by the overall experience. LOK is a multi-purpose event space and exactly what I was looking for. There are two event/function spaces and I opted to rent only the main room as it fit the size of party we were expecting (approx. 150 people). Here are my main takeaways from the space. - Beautiful white event space - Ambiance lighting that you can customize - Deep freezer and ice-machine - Tables and ghost chairs - Clean and spacious space (including bathrooms) Marilia the co-owner was more than just helpful, she answered all of my questions in a timely manner and was extremely professional - I couldn't praise her enough. She is also an amazing event planner with lots of creativity and insight. Although, I chose to decorate the venue myself and handle all of the vendor choices. Marilia does provide a preferred vendor list if you choose to go that route and you can utilize any of the vendors on the list or choose your own. She played a huge part leading up to the day of the event and Alex went above and beyond the day of the event to ensure that I was satisfied and he was extremely accommodating. It has large, beautiful chandeliers all over the cieling, a bar area and an extra location just incase one side is not enough the space is large enough for intimate weddings. The floors are beautiful and the walls have options of color lighting. The venue is good for type of events and since it is white anything imaginable can be created. I hosted my birthday party at this stunning location & was extremely happy with my experience. The venue has a very clean & elegant look; it's simply perfect for any type of event. The ghost chairs that they provide are perfect no matter what your theme is & the chandeliers add just the right touch of elegance. There are amenities that you rarely find at other locations - lighting, deep freezer, ice machine, speakers, etc. Charlie & Marilia were a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. They were very accommodating and patient in regards to answering all of my emails & working with all of my vendors ... and most importantly, on the day of my event. So I had my baby shower here and it was amazing! Just coming to check out the venue it was love at first sight! Its a clean, white space with BEAUTIFUL chandeliers. Main room fits 150 people (15 tables,10 people) but if you don't want it so cramp there's a side room for more space (can fit 3 more tables plus the food table). They have a light system that can change to any color you want to make that clean space POP! After we made the immediate decision on the venue. Marilia (part owner) helped with literally everything! Decorating, cake, venting lol She's so sweet and really helped with my vision (tropical theme) and tried to make if as affordable as she could. She answered text and calls right away. She made sure I stayed calm and knew everything was going to be fine. We had to change the date last minute because of personal issues but she was very accommodating and made it work! She referred us to a food place which the owner there was friendly and the food was delicious! My CAKE! Beautiful! Delicious and when I say delicious my family was literally eating a piece like everyday for breakfast. I'm going to use that cake person for everything lol. Then my shower was beautiful! Marilia was super awesome couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. The staff that cleaned and were around during the event were super friendly too :) The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it's pricey BUT for the beautiful space, super hospitality and how everything came out. I rented LOK for my big day and worked with the owner Marilia for the decor. It turned out to be great. However, I would absolutely NOT come back to LOK, or work with the owner for the reasons I will list below. RENTAL: is empty white space in a factory neighborhood, the ​price is $3,500 for an evening. This is an okay price. BUT when you add up all the outside vendors you have to work with, such as catering, staff, and mainly DECOR.. it adds up to be the ​exact same thing as say.. Russo on the Bay. And more and more tedious work.  DECORATION: Biggest Negative of working with Marilia: Last Minute Expensive Quote Before I rented LOK, I requested more information from the owner for decorations, a broad estimate for a party for 100 people. She said she can do any range depending on what we want, 1K up to 10 K, depending on how big we want to go. She got us all hyped about the details she could potentially do. My biggest emphasis was my theme, and budget limits. We agreed on getting a quote. We started exchanging ideas, colors, themes. When I asked her about the quote she assured we can agree on the price and have​ the flexibility to play around it. Weeks later we asked for a quote, no reply. I texted her via Instagram, whatsapp, text.. no replies. There was a long silence. This made me super uncomfortable because I was looking for other vendors. And finally we agreed to meet with us to discuss details. We met in person 3 times at the venue, at each time I was expecting her to give me a price range. Yet, that evening we discussed all potential ideas. She assured us and said "Don't worry, I will work with you, there is room for negotiation and we can remove the things we don't want on the quote." She was super convincing and took the lead on decorations without agreeing on the price. We started working on details. Meanwhile i kept asking her quote. She mentioned somewhere along the way her labor is $2000.. she almost brushed it off.. no clear message about this price was given on day 1 or on other communication, it wasn't given to us with clarity, or via written documents. She was almost non-transparent about this. It turns out this is her strategy.  2 weeks before I was asking for a quote, no word on that. 1 week before my day, she kept saying she will send on Friday, then weekend.. GUESS hen we received the quote? 3 DAYS BEFORE my night. It was almost 6K..!! Big Surprise. She mentioned I have to pay with chase zelle WITHIN 3 days to avoid TAX! I explained my frustration and tried to negotiate labor fee which she cared $2,000. All she said was her rate was non negotiable and her actual fee is $2500. That was a bummer. There was 1 item we were able to remove from the quote. Nothing else was negotiable. She made up a price list, and we were stuck with it. That long feeling of uncertainty was for a reason.  I received the quote on TUESDAY, had pay 2K on that, day, 2 next and rest on Thursday. I told her that I'm hesitant on making the full to payment before Friday to assure she will do everything she said. Here is her answer and I'm quoting her here " I WILL NOT GIVE ACCESS TO THE VENUE UNLESS ALL PAYMENTS ARE MADE"... think of this for a minute. As a customer, putting months of planning and organizing about this night, she is THREATENING ME by not giving access to the venue, a few days before my event. HOW FRUSTRATING! This will not happen if you work with a professional person, or a venue. I should have had all the right to complete the payment until after I see all services. On the day of my event, we noticed there is a few small pieces she promised, or said along the way that was not delivered. For instance the bulb roses at tables, cake table decor etc. but at that point I wasn't going to let small details get into me. Learned lesson, don't trust people, they could be smiling and making you promises, its all business. I chose that place to stay within budget but i ended up spending way over my budget, and we were too exhausted to think all the details. I would have worked with a restaurant fo that prices, and knew what to expect with a budget. I'm writing this review, because I suggest NOT working with LOK and the owner. and if you happen to work, just make sure you have the quote in advance so she doesn't mess up with you. During the beginning, she was super friendly and etc. BUT this doesn't promise anything. 6K for decorations was NOT worth it, she didn't do anything special. There was nothing worth 2K labor. If you are planning an event, you want to have piece of mind therefore work with professionals. Who would work with her, if this conversation was upfront and we were told to pay 6K plus tax, plus $ 3,5000 rent? This is not including the food, staff, DJ, Photographer, and al other small expenses. Basically work with an actual venue that has all the services and a professional staff. Make sure you have the quote before you sign up to work with anyone. read more

This past Sunday I had my baby shower at this amazing venue. The place was immaculate. Everything was perfect. One of the owners, who is a FABULOUS event planner also, literally took my breath away with her ability to bring my vision to life and transform this already beautiful, clean slate into something out of a magazine. She's amazing. The space is amazing. We found this location for our baby shower shortly after they opened and it makes most of the other rental spaces in area look awful. The space is clean, elegant and spacious. The owners were very professional, accommodating and prompt to address all questions via phone, email or text. I'm kind of a perfectionist and feel bad for all the questions, but the owners were always patient and helpful. On the day of the event they even allowed us to start setting up 2-3 hours before the agreed time, which we greatly appreciated. Overall, everything went smooth and we had amazing time. This space is located in my neighborhood. They have ruined their reputation with the residents. They take no pride in the types of people they do business with. In the last few years that they've been on Kent Ave fights break out, a shooting, and the last disgusting event which was on 3/30/19 involved a mass stampede of party goers in the neighborhood. The end result, neighborhood cars were jumped on and dented. They take no responsibility. In my my opinion this venue has become a classless establishment. About 2 or 3 months ago I expressed via email my interest to host my wedding at Lights on Kent. We emailed back and forth and scheduled an appointment to visit the space. The venue manager wrote down our visions budget etc, and expressed that she would be leaving on vacation and will get back to us right after the new years. A week after new years I checked in via email since I did not receive a call and since then i have gotten no response and no email had been sent back to me. My interaction with the Lights on Kent Manager/ wedding planner was very professional, however, it is unprofessional to take down a person's information, wedding dreams and vision and never follow through. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone nor my friends because of this experience. read more

My bridal shower was thrown in this space and it was better than I imagined. This space is so clean, elegant, and modern looking. The chandeliers and the lighting took the decor to another level. I remember the first time I came across this venue online I always knew that I would want my baby shower there so when the time came for my baby shower I was so excited that we were able to book the venue. From the first time I stepped foot into the venue until my last moment there was just a dream come true! The ambiance of the venue without decor is everything and so imagine how much more in love I was once I decorated the venue. I love that the venue is a clean sleek slate and that it's so spacious. I love the big bar area and that there is a big sink and deep refrigerator behind the bar. I love that the owner and the people who work there are very involved and make you feel so comfortable and are so attentive, helpful and polite. I love that the venue let's you turn the place into what you imagine it to be and I love that they are very professional as well. I would love to have all my future events there..wishful thinking!!
