Love this small winery in Morgan Hill. Staff is so friendly and the wines are delicious. Love the sparkling. Outside patio seating in the shade is available. Wine club gets you invited to fun events.

What a nice place. Amazing inside if you want to sit in and sample some wines. It's a nice and sunny day you can sit outside on a comfortable chair. The staff were really friendly and helpful. After the tasting we had a glass of Pinot noir rosé which was awesome. The tasting room is just of 101 going to San Jose very convenient to get on and off on a semi industrial area but with a nice garden area (see the pictures) We were able to bring our own food and have it with the wine.

We made reservations for Saturday at 1:30pm and requested outdoors. But when we arrived, they still had to set up the tables for us. I was surprised we didn't need to put down $50 deposit for the reservation like it said on their website. There was only 1 other table taken outdoors. It was not busy at all. You have a choice of 3 kinds of flights: white, red, and mixed ($20 for 5 wines). The wines here are pretty bland. We prefer bolder flavors. The pours weren't generous. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. You can also bring your own food/snacks. It's located in industrial area. They have a IG picture worthy area that has wine bottle and glass. Cute touch. Service wasn't anything to mention much. They put the whole flight on a wine rack so we didn't really need much service. I went in to pay to make the check out process faster.

Vivian did a wonderful job of making my boyfriend and I feel welcome even though we showed up right when she opened at 11 AM tired from the drive. We had a BOGO coupon from the Campbell Wine walk so we paid about $20 for the mixed flights for two people which is very reasonable. We especially loved the last red wine we had and may go back and buy a bottle tomorrow. Lovely comfortable tasting room, delicious wines and wonderful knowledge from Ms. Vivian. Will come back!

Great new local tasting room in town and a welcome addition to thre community! Peter was more than helpful and made our experience memorable. The space is really great, as they have a nice large room in the back that would work well for private events, and a cute courtyard out front that is going to be great in the spring/summer. They just opened this past August and still have a few things in the works. I look forward to seeing what they have in store for us! Now on to the important stuff, the wine. It's delicious! I'm partial to whites these days, so I really loved their Santa Cruz Chardonnay. The reds were also quite tasty. Standout for me was the Fellom Ranch Cab. Fun fact: they're open until 7pm Wed - Sunday!

To start, this was a Valentine's Day surprise for my wife - our first Valentine's Day as a married couple. We arrived early, and got seated right around 6:50pm. For the next 50 minutes, we sat there with no food, wine or even water in our glasses. Now being almost 8:00pm - we received a glass of chardonnay and the whipped goat cheese plate. Reading the menu, we noticed the wine was already paired wrong... chardonnay was supposed to be with the next lobster gnocchi dish. That is fine, a little frustrating but not the end of the world. Now that we finished our meal, the server asked us to all stack our plates and pass them down the table to help them clear the tables faster?? Because this was unexpected and frankly staggering as a request - we started to stack and pass where the server frustratingly communicated "keep your forks please!! You need to reuse them". So now we need to unstack, grab our forks for the next meal. Now we get poured the rose... again not the right pairing. Next we wait another 30 minutes for the next course, only for the lobster gnocchi to legitimately be raw. The lobster was fine, but my wife literally cooks gnocchi a few times per month and it was inedible... just raw potato dough. At this point we are losing our patience. This was a $300+ meal and we are receiving the wrong wines, raw food, clearing our own plates, getting reprimanded by servers, and it is almost 9pm and the steak isn't here. Now the steak and cabernet arrives... except not my wifes. The whole table was served, including me first and she was forgotten. Since there were only 2 people working all night, it took us another 15 minutes to find someone and get her a dish and mine is now cold. At this point it is past 9pm, we are receiving cold food and we left.

Awesome low key winery in an industrial business area. Great staff and chill vibe. Peter is awesome and was helpful with our wine tasting. Will definitely come back again!

This tasting room was a great time. The giant wine bottle and wine glass outside are run for pictures. They offer a wide variety of wines to try. Both staff members that were working were very helpful and kind. Thanks for a great experience!

Great place for a nice date night. Amazing wines. Vivan made us feel at home and did a fantastic job explaining the different tasting options. Will be back in the future!

Castillo's Hillside Shire Winery Review from my visit on Sunday 5/17/2026…read more I was very excited to visit this location because the photos online looked absolutely stunning. The beautiful home and landscape are very well kept, and the winery itself is a cozy little spot nestled along the hillside. Prior to visiting, my friend kindly called about two weeks in advance to ask permission to take her graduation photos there so we wouldn't be imposing on their property. We were told it would be perfectly fine as long as we purchased a bottle of wine, which we happily agreed to. Unfortunately, upon arriving, our experience was disappointing. The woman working in the tasting room came across as very cold and unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. She repeatedly questioned us about taking photos and stated there was a $250 insurance charge required for photography on the property. When we explained that permission had already been given over the phone, she simply responded with "okay" before ringing me up for a $49 bottle of wine. What was most disappointing was the lack of kindness and professionalism. I was genuinely excited to visit this winery and support the business, but the uncomfortable interaction completely changed my perspective on the location. Hospitality goes a long way in the winery industry, and unfortunately, we did not feel welcomed here at all. Such a beautiful property, but sadly the customer service experience left a lasting impression, and not in a positive way.

"My wine-making philosophy is 'good grapes, good wine. The wine is made in the vineyard through…read moregood viticulture and by mother nature's fermentation process. The wine maker must be a good babysitter to this process." -- Jerry Ross So working and living in the area of Morgan Hill I have recently seen a bunch of signs popping up directing drivers to Morgan Hill's newest winery: Ross Vineyards. Turns out there are 50+ signs all about the area so after hiking Uvas Canyon, I saw a couple more and had to stop in. The Winery is situated on a Hill overlooking Chesebro Reservoir. The vineyard and winery are located on the site of the historic Coffe Ranch whose original owner Joseph Coffe came to the United States from France in 1870 and five years later Mr. Coffee founded The Wine Depot Winery in San Jose. The family lived and farmed on the 300-acre ranch along Llagas Creek in Morgan Hill for three generations the Coffe and cultivated 50 acres of vineyards. The original ranch buildings and farming/winery equipment are still at Ross Vineyards and it was a kick today tasting in the historic barn filled with antiques and photos. Jerry Ross is quite a character and is the main reason for the 5 stars. He was a non-stop story teller, with a Bud of all things, while his grandson was pouring wine and his wife Judy encouraged everyone to sit down and eat the hot dogs and beans that were prepared (I had a dog with the homemade beans. Very good). Jerry was a home winemaker starting in the late 90's and the winery was bonded in 2005. The tasting room opened in May, 2013 and it is a must-visit in the area for the views, the ambiance and the awesome vibes one gets from the Ross's. Married 50 years, this is how wine tasting should be: fun and unpretentious!!! (Here is what my 8 readers are waiting for) None of that fussy stuffiness and overblown pretentious nouveau-riche chateau you find at The Winery That Shall Not Be Named (although we usually do). A messy ranch with rental homes, a tasting room in a historic barn, hot dogs and beans from a crockpot and a funny dog knocking a balloon into the air with his nose until it pops. The winery sells only red wines, grown on Ross Hill Vineyard which is above the tasting barn, and they include Cabernet, Merlot, Barbera, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Petit Syrah, Mourvedre, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Grenache, Syrah, and Zinfandel. I enjoyed the 2007 Tempranillo very much and bought two bottles. The other wines were good to very good and I think you will be surprised at the quality. Ross Hill Vineyard is two acres and the winery makes 14 barrels of wine a year. Most of the wines sell for between $20 to $25 So get away from snooty wineries (Hmmm, which one one comes to mind? Oh I remember...) where just getting a cracker, much less a taste, becomes an exercise in civil disobedience. Come out here in the beautiful backcountry of Morgan Hill and let the Ross's, on the 1st and 3rd weekend of every month, show you some true Santa Clara Valley hospitality. Highly recommended!

We both opted for the red wine tasting and appreciated the variety. There were one or two I didn't like as much, but I loved being able to taste such different wines. We also decided to splurge and share the white wine tasting. I loved their Rose and one of their white wines. We ended up buying a bottle of the Red Syrah and White Fiano as gifts for friends. What really took this place up from 4 to 5 stars was house hospitable and kind the staff was! Dana in particular was so warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in, asking how we ended up in Morgan Hill and congratulating us on our recent job offers. She even brought out some complimentary champage because she was so happy for our recent life changes! We chose to do our tasting out on the garden patio. Once we got out there my first impression was of neglect and sadness. I hoped it wasn't going to be a reflection of the wines we'd be tasting. Unfortunately it was. All were bad, some worse than others. The "champagne" had no bubbles. We noticed this before we began our tasting. They all tasted like they came from bottles that had been opened weeks before being poured for our tasting. My fiancé asked if they had tasted the wines that morning to QC, and the tasting room hostess said she had. She either has no clue what the wine should taste like or she lied. Maybe both. We heard that this winery has been changing hands frequently and that in the past had produced good wine. I will keep my fingers crossed that who ever is the current owner will be able to turn this winery around. In the meantime I couldn't in good conscience recommend anyone making time to taste here.

This is the tiny tasting room for the san juan bautista local winery…read more Parking for the most part is not the big deal that it is in the bay area. It's street parking only, but here that just means you'll be down a block or so instead of right in front. This is a smaller space located in an old school colonial style courtyard. There is seating at the counter for six (comfortably) to eight (if you are really friendly) and there are a couple of two spots based on empty barrels scattered around. For the most part you'll be at the counter. The decor is pretty standard wine tasting room stuff with the exception of the local art display. As far as the wine goes, you know how it is. One persons nirvana is another persons bread and butter and a third persons nausea. The wine to my uncultured palate is not great-but it is good. The reds on offer here are pretty decent. They are aiming for some exquisite spanish styles and well, stick with the reds. They are not quite where they want to be just yet. Even though (to my mind anyway) the wine is just okay, there is one area it becomes excellent. On my visit it was entirely possible to get a case of wine for forty bucks. Sure, it's not a perfect wine(very much so), but as I've said before perfect is the enemy of good enough and this wine is more then good enough especially at forty dollars a case. Heck at that price you could take a bath in it han dynasty style, harem not included. When its all said and done this is a charming, small (I would say terroir but that might only confuse people pianist style) very local winery not without it's small charms.
