JOHN A SAVED THE DAY!…read more Needed a light fixture for my bathroom. Stopped by to check out their selection. Upon entering the store I was greeted with a not so welcoming hello. The staff was not very friendly and made it seem as I was bothering them with my questions. I saw a fixture that I liked but wanted my hubby to see it before purchasing it. When the staff realized I wasn't going to buy immediately, their actions pretty much showed me the door. I took the hint and left. I made up my mind I was going to purchase the fixture elsewhere but went back to show it to my husband. I was immediately greeted by John A who made me feel welcome. He was personable, helpful and asked all the right questions. His guidance made me realize my choice wasn't a good one and he helped me find a light that was just right. My decision to purchase the light elsewhere was reversed because of my experience with John A. Nice job John A, your colleagues should take a page out of your book!

Millennials and Gen-Z, avoid this place at all costs…read more I waited until the last minute (electrician is coming tomorrow) to order a flush mount light for our new walk-in closet, so decided to find a brick and mortar store to select one in person, so I'd have it ready for him and be able to wrap up this project ASAP. There aren't many lighting stores left in Westchester, and Hi-Light had a few decent reviews, so I popped in quickly before the appointment with our electrician. After finding a few crystal flushount options at Hi-Light on Central Ave, I took a couple photos to send to my husband (who is also part of the buying process), and was immediately accosted by a salesperson who said I wasn't allowed to take photos of the products I was interested in buying, and asked me to stop. WTF? This is 2023. A great customer experience is your competitive advantage, and yet, the first thing a customer service person said to me was to stop taking photos of the items I was considering buying. Okaaaaaaaay. If you want to sell your products to people who use technology as part of the buying process, you need to make that easy AND pleasant for them to buy, and not harass them for promoting your products to their spouses (or interior designers etc.). I've been working on the renovation of our house for a year, and never once has a salesperson asked me to stop taking photos. In fact, they encourage it! This is why millennials do not want to come into stores now. Who has time for this B.S.? Never again. I'm ordering a flush mount online and will have my electrician come a second time to install a closet flush mount.

Our contractor referred us to come here on Central Ave in Yonkers because of their reputation, quality and variety. Lights on Design was like a crisp breath of fresh air when we stopped in here. Main floor is mostly crystal grand chandeliers, attractive contemporary style lights, some 1960s-inspired and more. And, if you're on their website, you can shop by style, fixture type and browse through some of their inspiration gallery photos. Paula was a doll, showed us the upstairs filled with mostly pendant lighting, floor lamps and some smaller chandeliers. Since so much has changed in lighting trend, getting rid of our wrought iron dining area chandelier had to happen as well- especially since it has a country-chicish look I don't like anymore in my home. There's another lighting store on Central Avenue which we could've gone to- but based on reviews, so glad this place came out on top. Owner Glenn, was helpful, patient and friendly. Even when hubs and I didn't find what we wanted on their website, Paula helped locate it in their paper catalog. I loved how she gave us expert advice on how to choose fixtures and even determined which size was best for our space. She was our lighting whisperer.

When it comes to hooking up my home with different lamps and lighting, I never play by the rules…read more I'll mix every style under the sun and end up with something to give a particular spot life. I was drawn to a Moroccan candle lamp we bought ages ago in the East Village- then had hubs' friend hook up a wire and light bulb. Because that wasn't a legit electrical job, it gave out- but we saved the Moroccan Lamp anyway for looks. Powell has always been our first line of defense for all things Lamps and knew we'd get a brand new and rewired Moroccan lamp. Located a few doors down from Apple Farm and SAKS Off 5th, the husband and wife team here- have always delivered exceptional lamp service. Plus there's so much lighting eye candy. Powell's process is a bit off I think- but somehow it works and they do come through. I visited 2 weeks ago and explained my issue to Fran and asked how much wire I needed, length, on/off switch placement, etc. She fills out order receipt with basic name and # info. Powell Accessories will not give you prices on the spot and even though I asked, she just couldn't give me a ballpark estimate. Lamps stay with them while they access the situation. And between the time I dropped off my lamp and the time we got a quote was 2 weeks. Although I love my Moroccan lamp, my fear was without a price quote sooner- I didn't want to be slapped with a $500 bill afterwards! Goes to show you I'm not the lamp expert and all we paid was just $48!

Having worked for 30+ years in the Huntington area I knew of the LONG time store for shades just West of the intersection of #25 & #110 and actually found something that 'worked' but it was a bit too 'modern' for the style of this antique lamp. He did have some very lovely old fashioned shades, w'fringe & embroidery that were very beautiful but a bit too 'much' for my taste! Thinking I wasn't going to find the 'tailored' but 'old fashioned' look I wanted I purchased the shade from the well stocked place @ the top of #110. Since I had looked for other 'lamp shade' places here on Yelp & phoned 'Tomlin' before leaving home, and the man had been so helpful on the phone & it was on the way home I figured I might as well stop there also. I am so glad I did! Perfect shade for my lamp, 'old' looking but not 'boudoir-ish'! I had been unable to find an antique brass satin finish chain & fittings for a found on the curb on trash day 'Tiffany like' chandelier that I had looked high & low to match @ the 'usual' places w'no luck. I mentioned it & low & behold a few trips to the back & he came up w'all the parts I needed! One of the nicest & accommodating store owners I have EVER met! THANK YOU Sir! In this day of 'mass produced', while seemingly ever increasingly cost & uncaring store owners, Tomlin Lighting is a REAL find & a ONE stop store for ALL your lighting needs! Only bad part of day was I had to drive back to Huntington & explain to the first 'shade' shop owner why I needed to return his shade!

JC from Westchester…read more Good day all, today it's not about food That I'm writing, it's about landscape Lighting, so I had been calling landscape lighting company's for a while now, but some how I was not convinced, I finally called National lawn sprinklers and a gentleman by the name of Artie ARTIE PETRONI came by, at exact time of appointment and we went over what I dreamed of having and what was feasible, he explained everything clearly He did not oversell, no rush, no fancy lighting systems, he kept it simple, Said he would send me proposals and sure enough by end of day I had them in my emails, The price was amazing, so I decided to do part of job and see how it came out, It was stunning, the workers were on time and when they left you could barely see that they dug the lawn So they will be returning in near future to finish the other jobs and a big job I will have in spring around pool Thank you ARTIE PETRONi and his crew God bless And always remember VIVI BENE/MANGIA BENE

This Review is for National Lawn Sprinklers 645 North Broadway North White Plains…read moreNational company is very irresponsible, and Artie is also irresponsible and careless. A month ago, I dialed National and got a free estimate. The person's name Artie showed up late. He will give you a good price and that seems to be catch. Schedule to install Sprinkler system was agreed on one of Thursday. No one showed up the whole day. After three try Artie texted me that it was mix-up and he can do installation on April 30th. We agreed. Yesterday 4/29, I had neither text nor phone call for confirmation. I texted Artie and no response. I left VM and no answer. After that he started disconnecting my phone. I had no choice, so I called the main number. At office one lady tried to help me by checking schedule and told me we are not on their schedule for 4/30. I explained that I need to take Day-off for this and he should have at least a curtsy to call me. She promises me that Artie will call you. Instead of calling I got text, and he said I am running late in scheduled installation, and I will not be able to do your job. He even told me that he would be fine if I found another company to do a job. Really, After one month of loss. Please take in writing if they will honor the installation date.
