Our room (#628) had gorgeous oceanfront views as well as views of the sound..it couldn't have been more beautiful. We loved that Buxton had such a peaceful, laid-back vibe compared to the hustle and bustle of Kitty Hawk, and it was our first time staying here. There were so many charming shops and great places to eat nearby. The suite itself was spotless, tastefully decorated, and had everything we needed. We especially enjoyed having our own kitchen and living room so we could make breakfast and sip coffee while watching the sunrise over the ocean. The pool and hot tub were wonderful too, and everything around the property was very well maintained. Lighthouse View was the perfect choice for a relaxing, romantic getaway. My husband and came for our 24th anniversary for a long weekend away. And it was an amazing time! We stayed in the ocean front king room. The room was very very clean and the bed was comfortable. Although the balconies are not private they still offer a sense of privacy with beautiful views. All rooms have nice Adirondack chairs and tables not the uncomfortable cheap plastic stuff like some other places. Check in and check out was incredibly easy. Swimming pool was nice and clean and so was the hot tub. Has vending machine and ice,and a grill. Although hotel is not wheel chair friendly. We are definitely looking forward to coming back later in the year and bring the whole family. The beach was beautiful and clean. And nice restaurants and stores in walking distance . We stayed in a first level cottage just steps from the beach with all the needed amenities including laundry facilities (though we didn't use the laundry) The cottage was clean and welcoming and the beds were very comfortable. The view from our deck was lovely and we spent many evenings there. We enjoyed the beach, swimming, boogie boarding, walking or watching the activity. We also spent some time on Pamlico Sound side and enjoyed floating in the water, sunning and watching kite surfers and wind surfers. Very nice place, we would definitely stay there again. read more

My family and I come to Buxton every Memorial Day (and sometimes Labor Day) and we always stay at Lighthouse View. If you're not directly on the Oceanfront, you're still only a short walk away, so it's a very convenient location. They have single bedrooms (with bunk beds in the hallway) or villas with multiple bedrooms, so it's good a good place for both weekends or week-long stays. I was told that they don't rent villas to people who are not staying for more than a week, which was disappointing. However, this past Memorial Day weekend we stayed in a villa so I'm not sure if that's accurate. It might have been because it rained all weekend and people cancelled. Lighthouse View is within walking distance of several restaurants in town and if you don't feel like eating out, it is fully equipped with a kitchen that has a full refrigerator and stove. If you aren't a fan of swimming in the ocean or just need a break from the beach, they have a pool and a hot tub on site. Additionally, you need a code to get in to the motel and pool, which is convenient because you won't need to carry a key with you everywhere. On my most recent visit, I noticed that they renovated their villas and they look way more modern and up-to-date. The TVs have been upgraded to smart TVs as well, so if it's raining and you need to spend the day inside you can watch Netflix, Disney+, etc. read more

UPDATE TO ORIGINAL REVIEW: The hotel management's response to our earlier review of the Lighthouse Oceanfront hotel stay only reinforces our warning to potential customers. Starting with a hollow apology, the hotel management lists numerous excuses, maligns us as being unreasonable, deflects any responsibility and purports the weather was far worse than it actually was. Reviews are designed to inform potential customers of what to expect, but reviews also educate businesses about needed improvements to stay in business. Apparently the Lighthouse Oceanfront hotel management has learned nothing from a valid complaint, has remained defensive instead of responsive, and has attacked us instead of being accountable for it's own pre-existing maintenance issue that disrupted our stay and added both stress and frustration. In short, a hole in ceiling over the bed was not patched before we arrived. During our stay a tropical storm (NOT a hurricane) brought heavy rain and gusty winds one night that -- according to the Dare County emergency services-- resulted in "no severe damage or anyone hurt." That pre-existing hole in the ceiling over our bed allowed the rain to leak through the top floor's ceiling and onto us while we were asleep in bed. The rest of our room's ceiling remained dry because there were no other holes in it! We immediately notified the hotel office about the leak via a text, we later requested new bed linens and asked for the onsite repair crew to add us to their list to patch the ceiling hole before nightfall. Apparently that made us "unreasonable." Seeking a discount for leaking ceiling was flatly denied as the leak was due to "an act of god." Absolutely wrong. It's why we followed up two weeks later but the employee still refused to acknowledge the preexisting ceiling hole was how the rain leaked through to the bed. A preexisting hole in the hotel's ceiling is not due to an act of God. And rain happens, rather regularly on the Outer Banks. They did not repair the ceiling and it leaked during a subsequent storm. Case closed. FWIW, that same day, a nearby gift shop owner and a hotel restaurant employee told us the tropical storm was just heavy rain and not actually a catastrophe. If this hotel had any storm damage, it certainly was not visible from the hotel parking lot. In their response to our review, the Lighthouse Oceanfront hotel management's response fails to recognizes its responsibility and deflects accountability with weak excuses: we are a small business, its the weather's fault, we are understaffed, etc. Laughably, hotel management even blames guests for not reporting the noisy, unlabeled hidden staff hallway "upon arrival." Now, how could a guest report it as being noisy when the guest hasn't yet stayed in room? We chose not to complain about the housekeepers carts banging against the wall that first morning because we presumed it was a one-off, not the norm , just a one-time accidental thing. But it happened again each morning and woke us up early. Facts are facts and warning potential guests of these facts is the point of reviews. The Lighthouse Oceanfront Hotel management should be proactive and fix their noisy hallways instead of attacking hotel guests for pointing out the problem. Why not try padding the hallway walls? Or oiling the wheels on housekeeping's carts? Or stashing the trash inside the staff hallway instead of piling it outside the guest's door? Or maybe just cautioning staff not to slam carts against the walls? These are all rather reasonable options to try. Obviously, management of the Lighthouse Oceanfront hotel doesn't "get it," or doesn't want to. By failing to listen and respond professionally, a partial refund is the least of this hotel's problems. FYI, many of the hotel rooms are not oceanfront but rather parking lot-front. STILL would NOT recommend staying at this hotel. read more

We live in Miami and had never been to the Outer Banks. So, we had two choices to make, what area would we stay in, and where would we stay in the area we picked. Our journey is now over and it was wonderful. We decided to stay in Buxton, in the Southern Part of the Outer Banks. Staying in the Southern part turned out to be a lucky decision because the Northern Part, near Nags Head, seemed to be a bustling area which reminded me of Miami with all the malls and traffic on the main road. I'm so glad we picked the South and Buxton was a great location. The next decision was where to stay in Buxton. Again, kind of luck I suppose that we selected the Lighthouse View and had a room right on the ocean. It was a perfect choice. Clean, great view, homey, and good location to everything in the south. The ocean of course is the great attraction and there was plenty of ocean from our room!!! It was very hard to leave after our one week stay. I also felt a great sense of privacy. It seemed like "our place" the entire week. If we needed anything we sent text messages which were answered immediately. We really loved it! If you are not sure where to go on your first visit to the Outer Banks, I can tell you that Buxton and the Lighthouse View are excellent choices. You'll love it like we did! read more

Always clean, fresh rooms. Fantastic view from your room's deck. I've been coming here for years and they are always updating rooms to keep things fresh and nice. Lots of places I stay on the beach are damp and feel Morley but this place never feels like that- they really keep up on keeping this place nice. They don't have a lot of tv channels and you have to login to your own Netflix. They provide linens and give you plenty of towels. Staying here is great if you like to get away from the chaos of beach seas but still be close enough to some restaurants and Conner's grocery. Staff is very responsive and great to chat with. We like to stay in the 2 bedroom villas with a well appointed full kitchen and clean. The beds are comfortable and we didn't hear our neighbors in the villa next door. A very straightforward in simple place if you want to spend a few days Near the lighthouse. They have replenished the beach and unfortunately ruined any of the surfing out front but understandable given the erosion. I had an important business meeting to do virtually and although they weren't able to accommodate me with a room to do it in or decent Internet it wasn't for lack of trying. They tried their best. But it's more of an affordable place to enjoy the beach and decent local restaurants and fishing. Someone down there in Buxton should open up a business or a part of their space for people to use for business while on vacation. Can't comment on the TV we never turned it on. I would go back. The freshwater showers underneath the property up on stilts are a big bonus. Parking at night is a little tight. Overall good experience. read more

The room was nice, but beware that oceanfront is the name of the company and does NOT mean oceanview (as in it does not guarantee that you can visibly see the ocean from your room), you cannot get refunded for your room, and the internet is really shitty (even the TVs had extreme struggle loading, let alone using a phone or laptop with the Wi-Fi.) The staff is so rude.. there was confusion with my booking and she wouldn't listen to what I was saying, and constantly interrupted with a snippy tone. When I asked if I could speak and finish what I was saying and hung up on me, and wouldn't answer my call. When I finally got in touch she realized her mistake, but was still very snippy and rude. I asked to speak to a manager but was told no, and the manager had heard about the situation anyone. She then said I can just go ahead and cancel. It was awesome. We only spend time in our rooms to sleep. We did king bed oceanfront and it was great. Gorgeous views. Ice cold AC. Wonderful little sitting patio to look at the beach. Walked to Diamond Shoals for dinner a few nights. Walked along the beach. Is it the lap of luxury? No. If you're looking for updated luxury this isn't it. But its a great location close to Buxton and Hatteras and a great little affordable beach hotel with spectacular views. Will be back for sure! read more

After my son got a job in Buxton for the summer we decided to take our vacation out there. We wanted to go in July but we got a late start on finding a place. Came across them and called, they were awesome told us what they had available and all the details. They took their time on the phone and answered all our questions. We rented one of their duplexes, it was perfect for us, reasonable priced, close to the ocean, also ocean and lighthouse view from our deck. What more Could you ask for? Check In was easy and the attendant was great again took his Time and told us all about the area. The rooms were dated and what I would call well used but still very clean! If I had any complaint it would be we needed more towels. The pool and hot tub were also very nice and clean. We really enjoyed our stay. Great value and a great location. read more

This was our second time staying here. The location is wonderful, and so nice to be oceanfront. Last year, we had a ocean front king room, and all was fine. This time we decided to get something a little bigger to have a kitchen, so we opted for a King Suite. We had issues with roaches from the start. Which made using the kitchen impossible. Any food we did bring in, we stored in the refrigerator, no matter what it was. The beach, and location are awesome, but after this stay I'm afraid we will probably not go back. You cannot open the windows so you can't hear the ocean or get a breeze. Our room was outdated, dark and depressing but sufficient for sleeping and showering. This place is all about location. You can walk to a restaurant across the street that has breakfast items and coffee, otherwise you need to drive for food. They do have a seating area outside the room with two chairs however I always felt like I wanted to get out and away from the dark room. If your main interest is being by the water, this is a good place. read more

Limited hotel/motel options in Buxton and this place seemed to be the best. There was some good but not enough to rate favorably. Good: direct beach access, front porch seating at each room, price (all things considered), parking, mini fridge, hose/shower station to wash away the sand. Bad: small room, desperately needs updating inside from top to bottom, HVAC was really loud and smelled musty, wobbly and rattling ceiling fan, weak wifi, it appeared non-guests were parking here and fishing from the hotel beach, garbage truck arrived at 430am. We booked from 9/7 to 9/14 due to hurrican Dorian we were unable to check in until 9/11. So we asked to be moved to another unit to finish out the days that we missed. We took the travel insurance due to new management we were told that we would have to file for the 4 missed days and then pay for the additional days. We already paid tor the 7 days of our vacation and we had to 500.00 plus to move to a different unit to get all of our days...and now I have to file with the insurance company for the 4 days we missed to be reimbursed instead of them just moving the days. We were told it would void the insurance which we said would have been fine as long as we got our days. In the original unit it said linens included and we had towels and wash clothes but there was a washer and dryer on the bottom we were expected to wash them and to have them wash would cost extra (this was in one of the circle cotteges). I washed our towles and went to dry them...dryer doesn't work...called front desk had to take towels from our unit to the next one so I could actually dry the towels (was fixed the next day but I already did what I needed to at that point). Then we were to move to the new unit and were told we would be called so we could move in early. We were called they sent us to a unit that was not oceanfront when we paid oceanfront so we went back to the front desk and were told she mixed us up with the people downstairs. She said our unit needed cleaned and it would be an hour. We waited an hour and 15 mins...no call...back to the front desk we were told she called and left a message..best part was she verified my fiances phone number before we left....we finally got move into the unit (we stayed in the same unit last year) half of the kitchen utensils were missing. My fiance made steak and we had 1 steak knife to share...literally one thing after another with this place...We have been coming to the same place yearly. We won't be back next year...New Management sucks... read more

Affordable place and typically friendly staff. Prices are decent. Accommodations are as expected. The larger units are nicer and worth the little bit extra that is charged for them. I would recommend going down toward the end of the peak season. The units are much more reasonably priced. My review would be different had I paid a premium for the accommodations. We stay at this motel for 10 days. Our room is on the ocean front. You can walk right on the beach easily. The view is amazing. They have laundry units provided but you have to prepare your own quarters in order to use the machines.The room is clean. Good location and easy access to the beach. Pool and hot tub area were clean, king suite room was clean and towels/linens were provided. Only complaint was the door locking situation.. we had two accesses to our suite, one in the back into the king bed room and one in the front, ocean front facing. The front doors apparently didn't have any unlocking device from the outside so if we wanted to lock up our room and head to the beach, in order to unlock it, we had to walk further to the back of the complex, use a different set of stairs and unlock it from the back. We mostly used the front, ocean facing door so it was extremely inconvenient. Please fix for convenience and safety reasons! read more

I used to stay here a lot with my mother who recently passed away. I was going to stay there one more time as a tribute but found that I couldn't book a room for one night online. I then tried calling and was told that I could make a reservation on the phone. I first asked if I could bring my dog and got a very sharp no before agreeing and asking for a room for two. Apparently the only thing available was a king size. I asked for a double and was told "that's not available." Once again in a very sharp and rude tone. I responded that I really wanted to stay there but would unfortunately have to find somewhere else. She responded "Good." I couldn't believe it. I just said "rude" and hung up. I'm still shocked. I stayed there April 8 and 9 using a deal from Groupon. I've been through Buxton many times but never spent the night this far south. My room was a second-floor King with a nice deck looking right out at the ocean. The room was comfortable and clean; I made good use of the in-room fridge and microwave, and I enjoyed sitting on the comfortable wooden chairs on the deck outside. (There's a little table too.) Nice shower with plenty of hot water and decent pressure (sometimes that's iffy on the Outer Banks!), and plenty of extra towels and washcloths. I wanted for nothing! The lady at the front desk was very friendly and made sure everything met my needs. I do have one recommendation ... please put screens in the windows! I lucked out this early in the season and the weather was warm, and I wanted to sleep with the windows open so I could hear the surf ... but with the windows open, anyone could walk right up and reach in, or worse, step right through the open window and into the room! I opened them anyway, keeping the blinds closed, but I was a little nervous about it. If you're familiar with the Buxton area, this place is one of the first hotels you see as you enter Buxton heading south on Route 12 ... it's on the left (ocean side) just after the big curve. It's in a great location; you can drive to the lighthouse in less than five minutes, and there are plenty of restaurants and activities nearby. I made this hotel my base while visiting the lighthouse, trying out a few of the local eateries, and visiting the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. I'll definitely be recommending it to others ... in fact I already have. read more

So the name is a little misleading since your view of the lighthouse is actually obstructed by another building, but you can see the light flashing at night for sure. It's definitely oceanfront property and the rooms are actually in good conditions. And there are a number of restaurants within walking distance which is nice. I do have to say...the water in this area is rough! More of a surfing spot than family beach area. read more

I like to spend as much time at the beach as possible (like every weekend) during the summertime. The less I spend to stay somewhere the more opportunities I have to go out of town. That said, I looked (very last minute) for a place to stay in the Nags Head area and this came up. I read reviews and felt comfortable that the accommodations would be clean and was incredibly happy with the price that I paid. At check-in, I was told that an oceanfront room had become available. I was allowed to go up and check out the original room I booked, as well as the oceanfront option. Of course, after seeing the view, I opted for the oceanfront room instead. Although, if money had been more of an issue I would have been equally as happy with the regular room! The room was clean and the view was amazing! You are mere steps from the ocean! Right outside of the room were two adirondack chairs with a little table attaching the two - the perfect location if you need to get out of the sun or if a storm comes through! The staff members were all friendly and helpful and ice machines/soda machines/stairs, etc were all labeled clearly so you know where to find anything you need. They have various accommodations including cottages, suites and room. I will be going back! read more
