The worst place I've ever experienced. To start with I'm a disabled vet and I let them know when I went on line and that what size rig and that I had a golf cart, that's how I get around. When arrived there was no one there, so we drove around found our spot and nope we were not fitting there. An hr later after calling someone called back cool. It sucked every thing off the road stuck you. Were cool made do that night. That morning 8am after sleeping all night with out electrical, park ranger Karen I thought the VA was rude she made the DMV look like Disney.. No golf carts it's registered, no trailer in the grass it's thorny said.. I didn't not care I was a Disabled Vet to her..move or get tickets. She acted like she was out of her mind We left forget that we paid for another night. Nope not me

I loved camping here! It was a great experience. I didn't have a chance to catch any of the three park rangers' names I saw while there, but they were all very courteous. When you arrive at the campground, a park ranger explains to drive around the campsite and pick out three sites you'd like to camp at (just in case someone ahead of you has decided they want that campsite first). While you can pay at the front after picking out a campsite, I appreciated the ease of paying online at recreation.gov beforehand. The bathrooms are kept very clean, which I was pleasantly surprised at! There is a skylight in the bathroom, as well as in the showers; however, there is also a light in the bathroom for when night falls. Bonus if you're like me and have to use the bathroom at 4am, you'll see a ton of small frogs gathered around the outside of the bathroom! The showers are cold water only, but I found that refreshing after being in the hot sun all day. If you have any questions like where to eat or what you can do, the rangers are more than helpful to answer any questions, but also hand out a prewritten FAQ paper with good breakfast spots and fun things to do (like climb two out of the three lighthouses on the beach!) Within walking distance is a beach, which can be accessed by foot or by off-road vehicles. There were a few trucks on the beach, but enough space so that no one felt like they'd be trampled at any moment. While no wood fires are permitted at your specific campsite, they are allowed on the beach with a permit. At each campsite, there is a small stove that you can have a charcoal fire in - perfect for s'mores or hot dogs! All in all, this campsite is planned out beautifully and is the perfect spot to camp at. I can't wait to go back and have another adventure there.

Let's cut to the chase: If your idea of RV Camping requires you to have electricity and/or full hookups, and worse yet, to run your RV generator all day and night, this is not the Campground for you. There isn't even a Dump Station here and if you need one, you will have to drive nine miles to the Cape Point Campground! The beach at its closest point to the Campground is about a thousand feet away and there must be about a billion sand spurs you will step on to get there. On the Walkway to the beach you are likely to be bitten by a thousand mosquitos and once you get to the beach you will have to put up with obnoxious drivers driving on the beach as if they were on a desert race if it happens to be a Holiday weekend like Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. One last thing: if your idea of fun involves things like people singing Karaoke or shooting fireworks in the middle of the night, you will again be better off nine miles up the road at Cape Point Campground. And that right there is what makes the Frisco Campground a HEAVEN for those of us that come here to enjoy the solitude of the beach as well as the quietness and politeness that comes with the types of campers that want to enjoy nature. No loud generators, no humming of Air Conditioners at night, no obnoxious groups partying all night long or leaving their campsite trashed as they leave. I honestly do not know how much longer it will be this way because as you can imagine, there is more money to be made if they were to add full hookups or electricity. Until then, enjoy the experience you will have at this wonderful campground because it is one of the few last National Park Campgrounds where you can still enjoy nature at its possible best.

They also have a spot where you can pick up and drop off your keys to the cabins if you are coming amd going before or after their open hours. We stayed in one of the one bedroom cabins. It came with two beds with a mat on top but they do tell you to bring your own linens, which we did. The cabins only have ac not heat, which is one of the only few things I think they should upgrade to have a unit that does both as we stayed during Halloween weekend and the digits where in the 40's at night. Just enough to take the chill out of the air inside. But we brought plenty of blankets so we were pretty cozy but definitely didnt want to leave the warmth in the morning lol. I also think the grills need to be updated to something you can close not the tiny open faced ones they have. Even after scrubbing it down, our food tasted funny after cooking on it due to all the grime that had built up from being uncovered in all sorts of weather. Easy walk to the water and have a tavern and deli within walking distance close by as well with good food. Was a great place to sit outside and read a book and just relax, no blaring horns or city noise.

This campground has it all: easy late check-in, spots are clearly labeled, beautiful views, multiple clean(!!) bathhouses, a pool, great hookups, and even Tavern on 12 and Hatteras Sno-balls within walking distance for delicious eats! Also very convenient to the rest of Cape Hatteras and the Ocracoke ferry. We definitely plan on returning and spending more time around the campground, it was beautiful!

This could be a nice place if it was taken care of properly. Waited too long to make my reservations & this was the only place available for 3 weeks in the middle of the busy summer season. That should have told me somthing right there. After talking to several other campground owners at places we've stayed before, they agreed with me. Management needs to be replaced. If this place had a good management, it could be brought into the new millenium. We survived our stay, but would never ever go back there again.

Really, this is the best I've found anywhere on the OBX. Friendly staff are always on hand generally until 7 or 8 pm. They have gated access and cable tv. Full bathhouses are provided and are kept clean. The campground is less than 5 minutes from Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (by car) - it may be just a bit too far for most to walk. It's located on Buxton Back Road, so it's just off Hwy 12 but not ON Hwy 12. It's also within 5 minutes of the grocery. It's about 30 minutes from the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry. They have 3 one bedroom cabins, 3 two bedroom cabins, and tent or RV camping. Lastly, the pond that surrounds the campground has hundreds of freshwater turtles that are people friendly and love being fed. I highly recommend this campground.

I wish more places had covered picnic areas on site to rent. This would be one of those places. The wind was rough and we couldn't keep our canopy up. Otherwise, fabulous facilities as far as updated and cleanliness. The laundry area was clean and priced fairly. We found the facilities, while older pretty nice. Seasonal rates would be welcomed at off season times, but I suppose they aren't interested in extra income for unused sites. All in all though, this is a great place for a week.

So really, just pick any space that isn't next to the dumpster. Some folks had their cars parked and were in tents so that may be an option for you. I arrived before dark and had no problem finding my designated space that had a marker indicating my name and my dates of check in and out. After parking, I heated up dinner at my designated picnic table, enjoyed a discreet beer and then climbed the dune (on a designated path!) to watch the ocean waves for a bit. It's beautiful and there was so much room that I had a half mile of sandy beach to myself. Absolutely stunning. There are no lifeguards so be careful if you decide to swim. I did not. A quick shower in the shower cabin (cold water only!) and I locked up for the night. It was quiet and peaceful. In the morning, I was up just before Sunrise and on my way north for the ferry terminal to Hatteras. The campground has a dump station that is free if you're staying here. Other than the showers and some bathrooms, there isn't much else here. [Review 782 of 2025 - 4214 in North Carolina - 24342 overall]
