Our site #5 had nice shade from trees and was close to the bathhouse. We liked the outdoor showers but they could use a few new wood boards. The sites are a little close to one another but our camper is small so we didn't have issues. It could be trickier with large campers. The owner was friendly and was very understanding when we didn't have enough cash. Make a note: they only take cash or check! There's an ATM at the bank and variety store. Also, they start taking reservations in March and you have to call ahead! Not sure how fast they fill up. They also don't allow fires because of the city ordinances. Ocracoke was such a fun trip and this campground was a perfect place to stay with our camper!

Renting a golf cart we found to be the best way to explore the island in a day (which is at the intersection as your coming out of the campground). Also, found a great coffee shop in the neighborhood near the campground run by locals. All in all, this was a pretty clean campsite compared to others we have stayed at during our road trip this summer so far. We enjoyed it so much, we are going back this week to stay and look for apartments in Ocracoke.

They also have a spot where you can pick up and drop off your keys to the cabins if you are coming amd going before or after their open hours. We stayed in one of the one bedroom cabins. It came with two beds with a mat on top but they do tell you to bring your own linens, which we did. The cabins only have ac not heat, which is one of the only few things I think they should upgrade to have a unit that does both as we stayed during Halloween weekend and the digits where in the 40's at night. Just enough to take the chill out of the air inside. But we brought plenty of blankets so we were pretty cozy but definitely didnt want to leave the warmth in the morning lol. I also think the grills need to be updated to something you can close not the tiny open faced ones they have. Even after scrubbing it down, our food tasted funny after cooking on it due to all the grime that had built up from being uncovered in all sorts of weather. Easy walk to the water and have a tavern and deli within walking distance close by as well with good food. Was a great place to sit outside and read a book and just relax, no blaring horns or city noise.

This campground has it all: easy late check-in, spots are clearly labeled, beautiful views, multiple clean(!!) bathhouses, a pool, great hookups, and even Tavern on 12 and Hatteras Sno-balls within walking distance for delicious eats! Also very convenient to the rest of Cape Hatteras and the Ocracoke ferry. We definitely plan on returning and spending more time around the campground, it was beautiful!

The island itself feels untouched and magical, with wide stretches of soft sand, sweeping dunes, and the sound of the surf setting a perfect rhythm for the ride. The horses were beautifully trained--attentive, responsive, and clearly well cared for--which made the experience feel both safe and exhilarating. Devon was an exceptional guide: knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about the island's history and ecology. Her easygoing confidence allowed us to relax and fully enjoy the scenery. This is a must‑do experience for any coastal adventurer.

If you want something more than that you'll be disappointed. I'm an equestrian and thought being on the beach would be fun. Not! You have to stay at the walk. The horse handed me was their lead horse ergo wanted to be in the lead. The owner kept telling me to not get ahead of her. I circled all the way to the back of the herd. Guess. My horse went into the trot on his own so I posted and got my hand popped. That horse was in tune with me and wanted to stretch his legs on that beach, but that was not allowed. I understand about liability, but I signed a waiver. Every time we got a length ahead she wanted me to stop. My horse knew Whoa! and 3rd position! That horse had never heard "eeeeeaaazzzzy" or just wasn't feeling it. It was just frustrating and boring. It was a waste of $150 plus a $20 tip plus gas to drive to the end of the world. Speaking of, there are NO gas stations. Gas up and pee before you head there. Glad we did.

This could be a nice place if it was taken care of properly. Waited too long to make my reservations & this was the only place available for 3 weeks in the middle of the busy summer season. That should have told me somthing right there. After talking to several other campground owners at places we've stayed before, they agreed with me. Management needs to be replaced. If this place had a good management, it could be brought into the new millenium. We survived our stay, but would never ever go back there again.

Really, this is the best I've found anywhere on the OBX. Friendly staff are always on hand generally until 7 or 8 pm. They have gated access and cable tv. Full bathhouses are provided and are kept clean. The campground is less than 5 minutes from Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (by car) - it may be just a bit too far for most to walk. It's located on Buxton Back Road, so it's just off Hwy 12 but not ON Hwy 12. It's also within 5 minutes of the grocery. It's about 30 minutes from the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry. They have 3 one bedroom cabins, 3 two bedroom cabins, and tent or RV camping. Lastly, the pond that surrounds the campground has hundreds of freshwater turtles that are people friendly and love being fed. I highly recommend this campground.

The reason it is mixed is because from the first hello I was totally misinformed about this campground. I booked it online due to the reviews and details of the campground. I called the park rangers and I was advised at the 800 number that I had to be there by 1pm to check in..when I got there at 1pm..no one was there to check me in. Found out that there is NEVER anyone here to check you in. It is literally a deck with three walls and roof with a book and box to write information in and drop in the money if you are paying day off. Then I found out that you have to pick your site and then go back to the office deck book and box, so it is not assigned like I was informed. Also I was told this was basically on the beach only divided by a few dunes...NOPE not true..had to drive to the beach parking area. Also was told it was near Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which it is in the same park but again unless you want to melt walking the over a mile one way hike in the sand, you better drive there too.. It pored the rain and the whole entire campground flooded so I ended up paying $60 for one night instead of the 3 nights I was scheduled to be there so I lost money. it was definitely an experience and I guess that was what I was truly after and I got that for sure...will I go back...nah!!! But again that is just not the campground but the entire Island is just not liking me...
