We stayed here last February and everything was fine. But now with new owners, it sucks. They said "free wifi", what a joke. No streaming. When we ask for another wifi connection, they said there's not another one. Plainly says on the website, " free wifi". Un- usable. Mosquitoes galore. They don't spray often enough. We ask when making a reservation which space we would be in, she said she could tell us for a fee of $25. WTF? Is it a secret? Incompetent staff, amenities suck. Place needs work. RV park is the place for me! The resort is under new ownership and upgrades are still in the process-I've not seen the motel rooms makeover myself so I'll refer to other comments made by recent reviews. Don't forget the bug repellent-you're going to need it around the park and sunscreen for the beach which has the feel of being primitive-it is part of a wildlife preserve-even though the Cedar Island/Ocracoke ferry is right next to the RV park. This is truly an experience that if you don't bring it with you-you won't find it here-I'm talking about grocery stores mainly-there is a dollar general that looks brand new within 20 minutes which is better then an hour to the nearest Walmart. If you're looking to unplug and enjoy the not having nothing to do style-this is your place too! read more

For a price of $99.99 at the last minute, for one night, before the ferry, this was a super find! There was so little information on the internet, that we phoned from the road. Kelly was very helpful in getting us reserved and assured us that the "lack of info" about their resort was nothing to be concerned about. And she was right. The remodeled room was great. Spacious, with king beds, clean bathrooms, and good A/C. I would suggest lamps as the recessed lighting in the ceiling wasn't sufficient with the curtains drawn for privacy. We could literally walk to the Cedar Island ferry, and were very grateful for the short commute the next morning at 6:30am! One BIG suggestion: We were in room No. 1, and the toilet was not bolted to the floor. The management might want to make sure that gets remedied, or they might have an unfortunate issue down the road! We give the Cedar Island Resort four super stars! read more

motel has been ruined by current management. I stayed here about 8 years ago and it was a nice little motel with a nice restauran. nice friendly local people as well. we drove down for a quick get away and decided to leave the camper back home on the farm. The idea, check out the area before planning a long stay in the campground, well, since the campground is run by the same outfit running the motel we will not return. why? service is non-existen. plain and simple. can not even get them to return a call about issues with their tv, which does nothing but show a TV guide. we were allotted two towels for two people for 3 days, cannot get an answer from non-existent room service for that either. we check out tomorrow and can check this one off the list as places to return too. It has flat out been ruined, which, by the way, is the consensus of local folks we've talked to. read more

The best place to camp ever. If you are looking for a hidden gem this is it! The beaches are amazing and you can truly relax at the most peaceful place in NC. Jessica (Manager)works hard but sometimes people need help running a place. She seemed to be trying to serve food, rents golf carts, take phone calls, work on water issues and gas up golf carts as needed. No time to clean , or provide info to renters. The RV campsite needs tons of help! Bathhouse, if you can get into it is dirty ( had to request a code to enter, should have been provided when we arrived), well water stops when too many campers use the water ( note ,very few campers during our visit), no WiFi, one restaurant which opens around lunch time, ugly old rundown motel in front seems to be used for storage, sadly this mess has been in place for four plus years, see photo. Beach is nice but I would suggest getting in the ferry line, visit the beach and leave. , read more

I wouldn't stay here again unless my life literally depended on it. First off, it was raining almost the entire time (I know they can't help that). But it was so ridiculously run down and disgusting. It wasn't until our THIRD day here when someone came to clean the bathrooms. I wouldn't even let my family use the showers because it looked like a great place to catch diseases and tetanus. It was practically abandoned and let's not forget the broken walkway thing behind our campsite! A fantastic opportunity for more tetanus and maybe death. Also the playground looked like it was about to fall over. Additionally we had asked to switch campsites because another one had a better view, but we're told no because "they didn't know when someone might come in." Guess they have no system that tells them when someone is coming and for which site? So we got stuck at the lowest point, meaning we had an ankle deep puddle completely surrounding our camper, almost the entire time. Run far, far away. read more

If you like remote pristine beaches and off the beaten path fun this is it. Ted and Zach were very responsive with our last minute horse ride request. We enjoyed great hospitality at Sharkys Grille as our horses were saddled up. Can't wait to come back and stay when the hotel renovations are done. read more

Mixed bag. The room was clean enough, and the location is all about the ferry. If you have an early morning ferry there is pretty much no where else to stay... so in effect, you're paying for the location in the morning. Everything was closed up and we didn't get there late either. It was pretty much a ghost town. Glad we called before we arrived about a late check in... otherwise I wouldn't have gotten a room code. Room was fine, price was up there... this place, well, I don't know the history. It seems like its had better days, but perhaps the work that appears to be going on it is restoring it. This Motel was a surprise find! We got off the Ocracoke Ferry, exhausted and were a little reserved about staying here.....Don't let the road front building fool you (it's under construction.) The newly renovated building is in the back, all new, carpet, A/C, beds, linens, everything is fresh and new, it was a beautiful place! The owners are putting their heart and soul into this place, it is a witness of the American Dream. I would recommend this place, as a convenient stop, or even a final destination. We did not know much about resort other than that it was short walk to ferry. We booked full hookup spot by the bay for our RV camper. Luckily we had our own hot shower in camper. The bathhouse did not have hot water and was rather run down and dirty. The trash bin for entire campsite was overflowing with trash when we arrived and never emptied entire week we stayed. The beach is nice and very remote, hardly anybody there. Watch out for horse poop though that is where they take horseback riders. The staff was super friendly and Sharky's Bar & Grill food was good, and they even had a local band Saturday night. It's mostly a place where people stay one night before catching ferry next day, or coming off ferry. We did not mind the quiet and remoteness. read more

I took my family here as a spur of the moment trip. We got a beach campsite. What they don't tell you is campsites are beside a pond that gives off methane gas and bugs are crazy bad. Only thing good I can say is that it was on the beach as advertised. read more

A perfect location, set apart and away from the crowd, a beautiful beach and a short walk to the ferry to Ocracoke Island, NC. Cedar Island Resort Motel was a lucky find on Memorial Day weekend. The rooms are newly remodeled, with nice furniture and new beds. Wi-Fi and cable TV, a refrigerator and in my Kingsize bedroom a desk and comfy chair with ottoman. The place is special, with horses for riding on the beach and bicycles for rent. The restaurant is Sharkey's and has good food at reasonable prices. The service is warm and friendly, with an extra bit of care as they recognize you as one of their guests. I'm writing this review on my second visit, this time for a four day retreat. The place, the Island and the staff have charmed their way into my heart. I highly recommend this place. read more

The beaches are very beautiful and peaceful. Also along the ride you could get to get to see the wild horses and cattle that are left on our small island, the are very beautiful creatures. The people who own it is very kind and loves the horses, they are doing a great job. read more

Great area..! Location is superb..! And you can't say enough about the friendly and helpful staff.. A very pleasurable experience..

We were not happy with this place. They advertise wifi but you can't get wifi unless your sitting in there restaurant while they are open or right outside there window before it opens but its so hot. They should have a few out door tables with umbrellas so you can use the wifi without the sun beating on you. The restaurant is only open from 11 am until around 8. The food not bad they should have a breakfast there is no where else nearby to eat. The people that worked there were very nice. They are working on fixing it up but they should concentrate on things to make it better for the campers. Like wifi that works because verizon is very weak. Put a wifi pole out by the campers like other camp grounds. Its hard to find a spot it will work. They need a second dumpster by the full hookups. We had to walk a long ways to throw out the trash and the one dumpster was always overflowing where trash wouldn't fit. The water pressure was terrible. If your staying a day to go to Ocracoke it will be fine. The walks on the beach is nice but we left a day early to get out of that place. We wish them well. read more
