We parked in front of the motel and didn't touch the car again the whole time we were there. The highlight was the service - the motel staff were so welcoming and truly exemplify the southern hospitality that North Carolina is known for. All in all, we loved Ocracoke Island and Bluff Shoal was the perfect HQ for our vacation. Hope to come back again!

The beach was clean and there were lots of shells. Camp spots were aplenty with space. Not crowded. The camp ranger Scott was a pleasure to converse with. A wonderful and intelligent man. Has showers but not hot water. Bathrooms were clean. No electric or water hook ups. Primitive camping.

The beach was beyond belief, free of crowds and noise and litter. Just watch the waves crashing is like pushing a reset button. The sunrise this morning was perfection itself. My only complaint here? The dang golf carts! These people drive like they are immune to traffic laws and physics, pulling out in front of my three ton RV that would crush them flat. Yes, there is a 20 mile per hour speed limit on the island and I adhered to it, but wow. Look out for these people zipping in and around parking lots. At first it…read moreseemed like the old automobile tow truck routine where the tower gets kickbacks and has a "buddy" that will repair your car, or maybe I've lived too long and have become naturally suspicious. But after my experience at Deaton I have to apologize for even thinking that. I have been in boat yards all over the world, from Cherbourg to Newport to Oahu and have never encountered a more competent, knowledgeable and friendly crew of people. I might add they were very fair in their pricing of the repair and it never seemed as if they were holding us hostage because we were broken down (as so many auto shops are wont to do, to continue the automobile analogy one step further). The diagnosis was quick, parts were over- nighted and the repair was complete within a bit more than 24 hours. A loaner was available during the repair and dockage rates while the repair was ongoing were more than reasonable. Check in was so easy as they had our keys in envelopes in a bin outside. When we got into our room the first thing I noticed was the clean smell of the room. It had a nice disinfectant or bleachy clean smell. The room was very well put together and very clean. We were on the third floor which gave a spectacular view of the marina and the boats coming and going. There are Adirondack chairs outside the room to enjoy. There was a small fridge, microwave and a smaller television in the room. Best part is it is in the middle of Ocracoke to enjoy all the village has to offer. AND even better it is right across the street from SmacNally's which has awesome food and even better drinks. The only negative would be the elevator which is slow and kinda sketchy looking but it did its job. Can't wait to stay here again

Like if someone mixed the wrong chemicals when cleaning. The microwave was broken. It being January not much is open, so we were going to heat up dinner & breakfast in our room. We called the number provided but no one ever called us back. We would have changed rooms last night!! I woke up with a migraine!! I ran the bathroom fan on trying to get rid of that smell to no avail. UGH! This may have been a 1 off room, I didn't see anyone else complaining of their room issues outside. We won't be back. What would I do differently? I did everything I was supposed to do. 1) I told the front desk there was a "chlorine like pool smell in our room." I smelled it the minute we walked in. They said "It's coming in from outside and blowing down the pipe, it should clear up." IT DID NOT *** 2) The microwave was broken, I called the number on the paperwork they gave us. It went to VM. I left a message, no one ever called me back! 3) I woke up 2 hours after going to bed with a migraine and I was having trouble breathing. I went out on the balcony for fresh air. It was so cold out but at least I could breathe. My head was pounding!! I went down to my car in the parking lot and sat there for a while. I finally went back upstairs & got my husband, who wasn't bothered at all by whatever this was. I told the lady at the desk about what is going on, it wasn't the same lady so she had no idea what was going on. I went back to my room & changed & left. As we were getting ready to leave I noticed that the cleaning lady was using Clorox. I told her the room smells very strongly of bleach. She said "some people don't like the bleach because it smells strong so I mix it with Fabuloso." I quickly realized what the smell was & looked up what mixing Clorox & Fabuloso would do. It creates a gas! I went down stairs and told the front desk about it. She said she'd give us a discount. Thanks for torturing me, can you pay me now? WE WON'T BE BACK!!! BTW, my husband has been a P-1 Master plumber for 35 years and NEVER heard of BLEACH smell down 'a pipe' before. These folks are crazy!

Ok, let's bring this one up to the current…read more Since my last ramblings about SPR, what's changed? Very little and that's a good thing. I believe they bought a few more acres of land to make the preserve a solid 132 and are now closed on Mondays. coastallandtrust.org/lands/springers-point-preserve/ All of the usual goodies still apply: No parking for anything here aside from bikes. Car parking is available at the Ocracoke Assembly of God Church for a donation (the parking there is also perfect for the Lighthouse since the few spots they had are now taken with construction equipment). There is a trash receptacle at the entrance. Past that, bring out whatever you take in. Also, don't be an ass and attempt to create your own trail. Aside from possibly getting poison ivy or eaten alive by the many winged creatures here that bite, it's obviously bad for the flora and fauna. The below has a nice overview of the trail setup. Nothing is hard, long or complicated. www.alltrails.com/parks/us/north-carolina/springers-point-nature-preserve For my money, this is one of the best, if not the best place on the entire island to turn up the quiet, tune out and relax.

Parking is kind of weird. There's no parking at the trail, but we parked at a nearby church that had parking for a donation. The trail starts out in a wooded area that's really pretty. Then the middle portion of the trail is along the beach. The beach portion was my favorite part because of all the jelly fish we saw right on the shore. I don't know what phenomenon was going on that they were all right on the shore or if it's normal, but it was really cool. I'd definitely add this to your list of stops on Ocracoke Island.

The room that we were given smelled of ammonia and was in terrible condition. There were plenty of spiders and bugs scurrying around the beds which is not surprising given how dirty the room was. The shower had no pressure whatsoever and the water intensely smelled like iron. I understand wanting to stay away from soulless chains but in this case a little bit more corporate style management and cleanliness would go a long way.

The beds are less than a year old, firm mattresses, with Serta pillows. The furniture is solid and attractive. It does not have all the amenities, but it does have all the basics and at a good price. They strive to meet any request you have. Their restaurant, Sharky's is very good and reasonably priced. This is my second visit and I strongly recommend them.

We booked a stay, almost 2 months ago, for May '27 through VRBO. Blue Heron was the broker…read morerepresenting the owner for the property (a property which we had stayed at before). On the previous stay with Blue Heron, we had a problem with the checking in process ... Blue Heron ended up changing the rules on us the day of checking in (we were told to be at the office at 9a to get a key by the owner (I assume) of Blue Heron ... we got there at 9a and was talked down to by the staff for doing what we were told to do... be there at 9a). Staff was less than gracious... Today I got a call from Blue Heron telling me that our reservation for May was being canceled... that they had quoted the stay too cheap. This is after I had received, from Blue Heron, a confirmation number and they had accepted payment. All we were asking for was the home that we booked, for the dates we booked, at the price that was booked, and that they accepted payment for... period. Net is we're left without a house for our stay and their response was basically... TOUGH! The staff that I talked with (Jennifer) actually said... "You'll never get a home on the island again" ... to which I said is that a threat? ... she then backed down... I've used Ocracoke Island Reality in the past and have NEVER had a problem... contrarily ... it would seem ...Blue Heron equals ... PROBLEMS! Be VERY CAUTIOUS booking with Blue Heron... you may end up like us ... "homeless"...

My husband and I were guests here last November. We planned to stay for a quick overnight with…read morezero notice. The inn keeper was kind and gracious welcoming us with no problem -- even though we didn't have prior reservations. Little did we know, we would get stuck on the island with the ferry ceasing to operate due to high winds. We were there several nights and he provided us with a safe a cozy place to stay during the storm. Highly recommend. Very peaceful and soothing place to stay. Wonderful inn keeper and fantastic history. His homemade breakfasts were also quite delicious.
