We loved that Buxton had such a peaceful, laid-back vibe compared to the hustle and bustle of Kitty Hawk, and it was our first time staying here. There were so many charming shops and great places to eat nearby. The suite itself was spotless, tastefully decorated, and had everything we needed. We especially enjoyed having our own kitchen and living room so we could make breakfast and sip coffee while watching the sunrise over the ocean. The pool and hot tub were wonderful too, and everything around the property was very well maintained. Lighthouse View was the perfect choice for a relaxing, romantic getaway. We're already planning to come back again!

The room was very very clean and the bed was comfortable. Although the balconies are not private they still offer a sense of privacy with beautiful views. All rooms have nice Adirondack chairs and tables not the uncomfortable cheap plastic stuff like some other places. Check in and check out was incredibly easy. Swimming pool was nice and clean and so was the hot tub. Has vending machine and ice,and a grill. Although hotel is not wheel chair friendly. We are definitely looking forward to coming back later in the year and bring the whole family. The beach was beautiful and clean. And nice restaurants and stores in walking distance . I had heard about the oceanic center and read several articles about it in the past . It also goes on extensively about the ecological system in how humans can interact in trying to make Hatteras more sustainable as a community and an island not being dependent on everything from the mainland. Has a long history of how humans and individuals can live in harmony but the sea and all sea creatures without endangering them. This is something I'm very interested in and have been for quite some time. My respect for the ocean and all that it entails is just phenomenal. I was glad I got to have a partial look see but really bummed I didn't get to have the full experience. Unfortunately it was closed for renovations but we peeked around and saw enough things that gained our curiosity. If I do return to OBX I definitely will come here and check this out when it is finished being refurbished. What's a girl to do? I love the beach and respect it, so I am all for the sustainability of people and sea creatures living in harmony.

In fact, the boat captain had all of our phone numbers and did not pick up the phone to tell us whatever his reason was for being late instead, we just sat there. Hot . As we made calls, the first person got an excuse that he had already picked us up, which obviously was impossible. As we were still sitting there the next phone call brought a reason of gas and engine problems, and then finally he came up with the reason that it had to do with a dog on the beach, in short, there is no reason for what happened today. When we got back, I felt assured that the Captain would tell us there was no charge due to the inconvenience, but he gratefully excepted his payment .

Like if someone mixed the wrong chemicals when cleaning. The microwave was broken. It being January not much is open, so we were going to heat up dinner & breakfast in our room. We called the number provided but no one ever called us back. We would have changed rooms last night!! I woke up with a migraine!! I ran the bathroom fan on trying to get rid of that smell to no avail. UGH! This may have been a 1 off room, I didn't see anyone else complaining of their room issues outside. We won't be back. What would I do differently? I did everything I was supposed to do. 1) I told the front desk there was a "chlorine like pool smell in our room." I smelled it the minute we walked in. They said "It's coming in from outside and blowing down the pipe, it should clear up." IT DID NOT *** 2) The microwave was broken, I called the number on the paperwork they gave us. It went to VM. I left a message, no one ever called me back! 3) I woke up 2 hours after going to bed with a migraine and I was having trouble breathing. I went out on the balcony for fresh air. It was so cold out but at least I could breathe. My head was pounding!! I went down to my car in the parking lot and sat there for a while. I finally went back upstairs & got my husband, who wasn't bothered at all by whatever this was. I told the lady at the desk about what is going on, it wasn't the same lady so she had no idea what was going on. I went back to my room & changed & left. As we were getting ready to leave I noticed that the cleaning lady was using Clorox. I told her the room smells very strongly of bleach. She said "some people don't like the bleach because it smells strong so I mix it with Fabuloso." I quickly realized what the smell was & looked up what mixing Clorox & Fabuloso would do. It creates a gas! I went down stairs and told the front desk about it. She said she'd give us a discount. Thanks for torturing me, can you pay me now? WE WON'T BE BACK!!! BTW, my husband has been a P-1 Master plumber for 35 years and NEVER heard of BLEACH smell down 'a pipe' before. These folks are crazy!

It's safe to say I won't ever stay here again. The price was decent. The check-in process was…read morepainless. It's easy to find. That's about the nicest things I could say about staying here aside from the sunset view which was pretty good. The bad....the wifi didn't work at all. They give you a sheet with instructions on how to login to the wifi, choose "north or south access point based on room number and floor number..." I included a screenshot, they only have "Anchorage Inn Guest" as an option. If you click it, it asks for a password. The sheet says to enter your username as the room number and then the password anchorage all lower case...well, the sign in screen doesn't ask for a username and says that password is wrong. The TV doesn't have cable but depends on wifi...guess what...it wasn't connected to the "TV Network" either. And it couldn't be connected to the guest network because nothing can connect to it. This was a bit of a problem for me as I fall asleep to TV every night and I couldn't use this TV at all. I called the office. No answer, a voicemail directed me to call a night time number. I called it. The guy there was pretty useless...he had no idea how to connect to the wifi or the password or anything and just told me to talk to the lady at the front desk in the morning. There are no grounded outlets in the room either so if you have anything that needs to plug-in to a three pronged outlet you're out of luck. No USB ports, no room phones...super basic. It did have a fridge. The AC would cool the room to 68 during these mild temps but I'm not so sure it would work in high temps, especially with the fact that you could see light all the way around the door reveal...absolutely no insulation (photo included). This allowed a ton of noise to intrude into the room all night so we didn't get the best sleep. It seems that pre-covid they used to offer some type of continental breakfast. I tried looking on their page and couldn't find out if they still offered it or not, they don't. I get that a lot of places cut costs here, but at least offer coffee, water, and some healthy food options such as apples or bananas. There's only 3 places that open by 7am for breakfast if you have an early ferry ride to catch. The parking lot was all gravel and sand too. Elevator is super slow especially if it's crowded. There are plenty of nearby restaurants within walking distance for dinner. There is a British Cemetery nearby where the land is perpetually leased to England so their soldiers who died fighting for the US can be buried in England. Some nice shops and and ice cream shop down the way as well.

There is also a sleep away sofa that my 7 year old slept on. We were happy to be able to get a place in the outer banks with a kitchen where you could stay for a couple of days. Another plus is that we were right across the street from the beach club which was the perfect venue for the July 4 fireworks. A great benefit was the use of the beach club pool. This was very nice and even had a bar which was open during the day. The only negative was the the pool closed at 5 PM. I really did not understand why. The villa was great. The only thing that made it less than 5 stars was it was hard to keep clean. They did not provide a vacuum. If you walked on the carpeted area with your bare feet, they would turn black. Additionally, the furniture is a little stained and dated. The free bike rental was nice as well. My wife and I rode down to one of the stores one day. The bottom line is this is a nice spot to stay a couple of days prior to transitioning to another place for a more long term stay. I would definitely return here again for a short term stay.

I was a little worried when we heard Hurricane Mathew would be rolling in the same weekend we would be there, but the wonderful staff assured us they would know well in advance if there was trouble and kept us up to date all weekend on the weather. One thing I loved was that they have a beautiful campus full of things to do that are all included in your package stay. The Pangea restaurant and pier are just a short 5 min walk away as well as their pool (which unfortunately was closed for the season thanks to the hurricane.) The spa is also great for rainy days or just relaxing and there is a full gym as well. We stayed in Villa Honeymoon and overall it was like having our own little get away at the beach. Room came with a king size bed and queen size pull out couch, full bath and spa tub, full kitchen and washer dryer. Down side was I think the spa tub wasn't functioning as we couldn't get the jets to work but it did a good job of cycling the water to keep warm. The room also came with a packet of events going on in the Villas that you could take part in. They had a wide variety of activities for all ages. There were also bikes available to use if you wanted to take a trip around the island but we didn't due to the overcast weather during our stay. You also get free admission to the Avon Pier which I recommend to check out. I believe they also have fishing gear to rent, but we just watched and talked with some of the locals since neither me or my husband had fished before. Overall I love how they take care of all the little details for you! It really made our stay wonderful. I wish the pool was open but I'm chalking that up to the hurricane/weather. Can't wait to return during the warmer months so we can experience the pool and beach!
