Stayed here for a weekend to get away for a bit. All the staff we encountered were very nice and helpful with any questions we had. They also have a spot where you can pick up and drop off your keys to the cabins if you are coming amd going before or after their open hours. We stayed in one of the one bedroom cabins. It came with two beds with a mat on top but they do tell you to bring your own linens,which we did. The cabins only have ac not heat, which is one of the only few things I think they should upgrade to have a unit that does both as we stayed during Halloween weekend and the digits where in the 40's at night. Just enough to take the chill out of the air inside. But we brought plenty of blankets so we were pretty cozy but definitely didnt want to leave the warmth in the morning lol. I also think the grills need to be updated to something you can close not the tiny open faced ones they have. Even after scrubbing it down, our food tasted funny after cooking on it due to all the grime that had built up from being uncovered in all sorts of weather. Easy walk to the water and have a tavern and deli within walking distance close by as well with good food. Was a great place to sit outside and read a book and just relax, no blaring horns or city noise. read more

Wife and I went here to celebrate my birthday and had a blast! We travel in our Tesla and used Frisco woods as our base camp. Our site had 50A charging which was perfect for our setup. This campground has it all: easy late check-in, spots are clearly labeled, beautiful views, multiple clean(!!) bathhouses, a pool, great hookups, and even Tavern on 12 and Hatteras Sno-balls within walking distance for delicious eats! Also very convenient to the rest of Cape Hatteras and the Ocracoke ferry. We definitely plan on returning and spending more time around the campground, it was beautiful! read more

Been coming here for years, we always make it down for our anniversary. This year was our 29th. This campground has shaded sites, mostly level, nice amenities, and some of the best sunsets you'd ever want to see. Staff are Friendly and Responsive. Although sometimes I think they get stressed trying to Meet everyone's needs. The beaches are wonderful, and life moves a good bit slower here, so leave your hurried stress at home. read more

Terrific campground. Great hosts! Even better if you are a kiteboarder. Great location for the wash or kook point . The bathroom and showers were very modern and VERY clean. I will stay here again. I will bring my camper next time. Tavern on 12 is right next door, gingerbread house .4 miles for pizza. Now the very bad. They have 4 WIFI CHANNELS and unless you are sitting on the porch you have zero connectivity. This is 2022 for chrissakes and this is soooo very lame. Internet connectivity is a feature anymore. You know like electricity, running water and so on. I got some lame comment like go to Hilton head if I wanted internet or it is all about location. Well that is just about as a BS cop out response as I have ever heard. For years KOA had lousy internet connectivity on that huge piece of property. Finally a few years ago they installed these devices and now there is great coverage through out the campground for watching Netflix, youtube or getting some work done. This campground can afford One day's revenue to upgrade the internet on this property. What we hoped was going to be a pleasant fall weekend watching sunsets over Pamlico Sound on North Carolina's Outer Banks was spoiled when another guest camped near us unfurled a profanity-laced flag with a political statement. This had no place at a family-oriented campground. Worse, yet, a vendor, apparently with the blessing of the campground, set up shop by the playground to sell these flags and other equally offensive paraphernalia in full of impressionable children. We found it inappropriate, out of place, and ruined our experience to the point that we felt uncomfortable enough to never return. We brought our experience to the attention of the staff of Frisco Woods Campground but received no response. read more

Nice sites and nice people at the front desk. Family run outfit. They too are extremely frustrated with the wifi. Witnessed them having to switch to slow hotspots on their phones to get their business done with little choice of ISPs. Camp store is really well stocked with RV supplies as well as everything you would expect for camping and more. Really good quality stuff. Campsites are pretty roomy with good connections for elect, h20, and sewage. Prices are also reasonable for being in a beach town with beautiful views if you can snag a spot near the Sound. read more

This was a random couples trip on October 30th-November 3rd, we only planned 3 weeks in advance. We got a 2 room Cabin. We thought it would be neat spend a full moon Halloween at this location and bf bday was November 3rd as well. When I tell you we got exactly what we wanted there I mean it. The grounds were beautiful and the placement of our cabin suited us well surrounded by trees. The view is beautiful of the sunset over the sound. And the sunrise on the beach side.... we wanted to truly "get away" and unplug and enjoy each other in a relaxed way. The WiFi is not why you go camping....but they did have it. And the bathhouse showers had amazing hot hot water and great water pressures! We had space to just be. Highly recommended. We will be back with the family next time. read more

The sunsets alone are worth the visit. We enjoy the local seafood and beaches. We enjoyed visiting the Hatteras lighthouse after dark, and seeing deer on the way out. The ferry to Ocracoke for dinner was nice, and the dolphins really put on a show for us! read more

We stayed three nights and enjoyed them all. The campground is clean with all the amenities like: store and gift shop, pool, laundry facilities, bathhouse, and kids play area. Campsites are well sized and close to the water, or a quick bike ride into the various towns and attractions. Highly recommend. read more

Campground was right on Hwy 12...big sign. Our campsite was S20 which is right on the Pamlico Sound. Our sunsets were so Amazing! Got a few images to frame for my home and office wall now. Woohoo! Our road was called The Bayou, which had cool trees with moss on them. Resembled the bayou to me. Our sight was super easy to pull in and hook up. Watching all the water sports on the water was relaxing. It amazed me how many different things you could do- kite surfing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, rafting, tubing, fishing, surfing(ocean side), kite boarding, sailing, wind surfing, and many more...Or not do any and just watch:) They were super friendly during checking in and any time we stopped by. One time the lady had two beautiful German shepherds on the counter. So fun to see. We didn't use the pool, but it sure looked inviting. We did use the laundromat. It has 4 washers and 4 dryers. Buy the soap powder and fabric softener at the office. $3.75 for one wash and dry. Glad they had it. The other campers we met were super friendly and interesting. Many spoke French and were from other countries. I like diversity. Everyone respected each other's space. The kids and their families were fun to watch. We even saw some couples who seemed to be enjoying the romantic views just as we did. One lady and her mom lit a Chinese Lantern/luminary each night and celebrated it going off into the evening sky. Found out she is from Indiana and has done this for last 6 years. Seemed like it was in memory of someone special. The rate was so reasonable especially with 10% off because we had a Good Sam membership. We didn't use the bathhouses but checked them out for future or to tell friends. After reading a few reviews I expected little, but they must have redone them. They looked nice and clean and the one by the pool looked really nice. Ok, I did use that one. Had to run in and flip my shirt around that I put on backwards (it happens). The wifi was down all over the island due to the recent rain storm. They have five relays there. It did work some on a few days. I probably needed to "unplug" anyway. Highly recommend this place. We looked around at other campgrounds and I'm sure we were at the best one. It was at a perfect spot down OBX. Away from the more commercial end with Nags Head, etc. read more

See if you are tent camping want to stay off the grid don't mind whether or not you have a manatees or even to clean bathroom this place is okay. The only good part is they are located on the sound. They advertise Wi-Fi which they admitted never works and they don't even attempt to fix it. We were there for four days and the bathrooms were never cleaned shower curtains were molded. We had to move sites because the bathroom had no heat. We were moved to a site near the supposedly handicap accessible bathroom. Again it has very little heat and there was no handicap accessible features other than a ramp. if you are in a wheelchair or can't stand long enough to take a shower you're out of luck save your money and go somewhere else. read more

We really lucked out here over Memorial Day weekend. We had booked another campground for tent camping (it turned out to really not meet our expectations to say the least) As we frantically started calling around Hatteras to find a new spot .. Justin (and also a woman whose name I did not catch) at Frisco Woods were SO helpful and accommodating ! They told us to come right over and gave us THE last tent site ( Friday evening) and it was perfect !! Beyond their helpful service, the campground itself was great ! Beautiful setting with trees and privacy, nice pool , well stocked camp store, access to the sound. They offer tent sites , RV sites and also little cabins to rent. Only reason for 4 stars not 5 is because I felt the bathrooms could use an update ( they were good enough though) I would definitely come back here ! read more

The cabin was nice (small) and the air conditioning worked very well to cool down the small cabin. Relatively clean and nice to have grill and picnic table next door. Nice beaches a short drive away. Highly recommend! Lower stars due to extremely rude female employee working on the recent Monday holiday. Understand that they had a completely nonrefundable policy for anything purchased, but she was hostile and extremely rude. read more

Gotta love Frisco Woods! This was our 2nd year staying here for our big camping trip. Both years so far have had around 30 people or so and Frisco Woods was very accommodating to all of us. The bathroom renovations are very much appreciated and I love that this place is so pet friendly and everything on the campsite is pretty close to everything. The map makes it seem very spread out but it's not. I'm not a fan of camping in the summer so I prefer this time of year to go and the cabins are just exactly what we need. Bring a heater if you're staying in the fall. One night we needed to use the ac unit the cabins have and the next night we needed to turn on our little heater. You can't predict this weather so come prepared! See ya next November! read more

I booked a cabin a month in advance of a weekend trip for 9/13 -9/15. Around 9/4 - 9/5 Hurricane Dorian wound up and had the east coast of NC in its sights. On 9/4 I began calling the campground to inquire about the possibility that the trip may be cancelled due to the approaching storm, closure and cancelling and refund. Of course there was no answer, however I did leave a message indicating that if there was an impact by the storm that affected the area we would NOT be making the trip and that I would want a refund for the deposit they charged at the time of reservation. I live in an area also affected by the same storm, however I continued to check their website, social media and to call their telephone number more than 30 times to inquire about the status of the grounds. The following are social media posts with times and dates. These posts are vague and unclear. And because they were unresponsive for more than a week by phone and email I was uncertain if I would have a place to stay. Once home on the 16th I decided to call back to inquire about a refund for the deposit. I got an employee that was bitter, abrasive and rude. She said she would leave a message for the manager and she would call me back. I didn't hear back so I called again on the 23rd and the manager answered, she may have been the employee I spoke to the week earlier, she was nasty. Basically told me to pound sand on the refund. Needless to say I will NEVER step foot on that property ever again. There are plenty of better options with nicer staff and management in that area. read more

If you're in a tent or hammock, don't stay on the sound side sites. If a N or W wind comes, it's like living in a hurricane, especially when the winds are sustained like my experience for almost two days where I had to sleep in my car. I measured the winds at 20knts, but it felt like 60. They should disclose this to people making reservations! Asked a man, believe he was an owner, to help me move a picnic table to my site and he was indifferent and acting like I was a huge interruption. The staff and owners act like you're a nuisance rather than their bread and butter. Other than that, nice place to kite on west to north winds, despite limited launching areas. Not sure if I'd ever stay there again??? read more

We booked site b14 on 7/31/15 for a stay starting 7/16/16. Had a 27' trailer with one slide at the time. When we were shopping for a new trailer I called and was told I'd be fine still in that site. Sent an email 6/29/16 using the link on their site again trying to clarify that we'd fit in the site with our new trailer. No response. We get there and get to our site and find that there's no way anything but a pop up or maybe a 20' trailer is going to get in there and even then there'd be no pace to part our tow vehicle. Also the neighboring sites have set up that we'd never get a slide out. We call the office to see what can be done. A young man is able to find one site that's open the full week we are staying- great. He tells us the site number-27. We go there and find its not full hookup and it's tiny. We go to the office and a woman rudely says "well that's the wrong 27" - well how about when you tell a person a site number tell them that there's more than one of that number so they can find the right one! She also tells me at that point b14 is not meant for a trailer with a slide anyway- not sure why they let me book it then??? So we are directed to the actual 27 that's meant for a trailer. It's a large site that's on the far edge of the grounds. We survey things before pulling in. The sewer pipe is above ground and disconnected about 12' from the trailer connection. We spot a man working on a rental cabin next door and he is watching us so we pointed out the sewer line. He speaks no English but seems to understand and fixes it. However the site and hookups are situated so different from the neighboring ones we can't tell how to get the trailer in with the trees without driving all over the grounds. We go to the office to see if we can be given direction. At this point I'm quite angry as I just spent almost 12 hrs getting here. We encounter the same lady who also tells me they respond to all emails unless the go to spam -which is funny because I used the link on their site when attempting to reach them as stated above. She calls "Buster" the owner. He shows up and is clearly annoyed that she had to call him as he's shaking his head at us. He is willing to help us get into the site. (All the office had to tell us what that it's ok to drive all over the grass and such and that however we got in was fine.) I also tried to tell him the story from the beginning of our frustrations and he cut me off and pointed his finger at me and said "they handle that, I'm just here to get you into that site" and walked away. Once at the site he just says "get in however you can- we don't care" and asks hubby if he'll be able to do it. He drives off on his cart and leaves. We never again had to deal with him thankfully but I did apologize to the two people in the office as I'm sure I was over emotional. We never even told them that the cable didn't work because we did not want another issue. However this all could have been avoided if they hadn't booked a site we'd never fit in and even then- had they responded to my communication weeks before the trip. If I could give negative stars I would. I will preface this with saying the weather was not in our favor for our first trip to the Outter Banks. We drove through 2 1/2 hours of extensive flooding to get to here. When we arrived the campground was flooded and very muddy. Laundry machines were turned off for days. Our site was out on the jetti. We had no idea we had to back our camper down a narrow jetti into our spot when we booked our site. Even worse was the area we had to start backing into was a complete disaster and all mud making it very slippery and challenging to get onto the jetti. Our site was nothing but mud for the 2 weeks we were there. Every time it rained our site flooded and we were constantly stepping out of the camper into mud and water. It began to stink pretty bad too. Half way through our stay they finally put sand down over the mud at the start of the jetti. When we asked the man if he could put some sand further down by our site as we are parking in mud he rolled his eyes and said "well see". We witnessed the same man be inconvenienced by another camper when they asked to get their propane tanks filled. The staff is less than helpful on a good day. Good luck getting Wifi anywhere on the campground. Staff will tell you "oh it works fine for me, must be your problem" yet several campers we spoke to also had no luck with wifi. We sat a the camp store and still couldn't get the wifi to register. So I hope you have a large data plan to support your wifi needs while camping. The mosquitos were horrendous and within minutes of stepping out of the camper we were getting bit, even during the day. You will notice many people with tiki torch table lamps burning constantly. The showers are the only semi decent thing about this campground as they are hot. HOWEVER ... they are also scalding and my husband and daughter both got 2nd degree burns from the showers. The bathrooms are never cleaned. The women's bathroom had the same bandage stuck to the wall for 8 days before it was taken off and used tampons under the bench for 4 days. There is also a hole in one of the women showers that you can easily see through to the mens side and between the bathrooms. We also found out from one of the locals that due to the extensive flooding everyones private septics on the sound side have also been leaching into the sound making high bacteria counts, funny odors and discolored water. He warned us that the sound is dirty on a good day, but advised we keep the kids out of it now. We wondered when we got there why the water looked and smelled funny. Once we found out we never went in it the entire time we we were there. The dumpsters were overflowing with trash for days before someone came and dumped them. Needless to say we ended up leaving 3 days early because we had had enough. We will never stay at this campground again and would never in a million years recommend it to anyone. There is no pride in the campground or quality. Its always interesting when we walked around to local shops and stores and talked to people in the community when they found out where we were staying we often heard "oh Im sorry" or "oh gosh..." or "good luck " ... So word to the wise DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE !!!! read more

Weather is always a crapshoot, didn't cooperate on this trip so I blew off my last night and bolted, but this wasn't the campground's fault. The campfground is clean...hottest showers to date!! Everyone we meet were nice. Very pet friendly.

I took a group of 31 teens and chaperones to the outer banks a few weeks ago and we stayed at Frisco Woods. Friendly, helpful staff. Great campsites. It is very conveniently located between Buxton and Hatteras village (Ocracoke ferry). They were easily able to accommodate our large group and the campsites are all good. We were tent camping, so I cannot speak to the RV hookups, but they had a variety of sites available. One bathhouse was recently upgraded and is very nice. The other is okay, but could use a facelift... but two words: heated showers. Always a good thing. Camp store is well-stocked and sells ice. Wi-fi was unexpected, but nice to have to check weather reports. It DID rain on us, but regardless, a fun time was had by all. We'll be back. read more

Charming campground marred by unhelpful staff. Our family researched and read many wonderful reviews on this campground, most from several years ago. We booked many months in advance. On check in day we departed our house 6+ hours in advance in order to make our check in time of 3 pm. After multiple ferry rides we arrived at frisco around 2 pm. We decided to go ahead and head to the camp ground with the hopes of an early check in. My wife was told to come back at around 2:30/3 pm, which was completely fine, since we were early. We returned at 3:05 hoping to check in. Once again we were told the cabin wasn't ready and that we could just wait in the parking lot until it was ready. A short while later( around 3:20 pm) I went in to check on the status of the cabin. I was told to just come back later. I informed the employee that this was unacceptable that our cabin wasn't ready for our 3 pm check in. The lady behind the counter snickered and rolled her eyes at me. I then left and waited in the parking lot. At 3:35 an employee came out with the key and told me that the cabin may pr may not be clean. We had to except the cabin, since we didn't have any other option at this point. When we arrived at the cabin, the A/C had been off for a long while. The temperature in the cabin was unbearable and we had to wait several hours before the cabin cooled enough to be useable ( outside temperature was around 92 degrees that day.) we weren't able to actually start using the cabin for several hours. this was the only experience dealing with their staff beside booking and left us with an unfavorable impression of the company. Our overall opinion of the staff is, they don't care about their guests at all. This whole situation would have been forgivable if they seemed to actually care that we were in this situation. For this reason alone, we will look elsewhere for our next summer vacation. read more

Don't let other convence you ocean side camping is the best. I've camped all over the country and this is one of my favorites. Sound side sites are the best with access for boats or anything else. It is shallow so you can walk a half mile into the sound. Pool is good. The bathrooms need some work but are OK. Sice it is very affordable, you do have some large groups that come here to party but all are respectful. read more

The local police recently investigated a "peeping tom" at this campground. They found that several of the women's showers had peep holes drill into them. A lot of people stay at this campground in the summer time, but you never hear anything good about it from the local community. read more

Good location - about halfway between the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Right on the Pamlico Sound (you can usually walk 1/2 mile out into the sound!). Friendly staff and a decently stocked grocery selection in the office. A bar/ restaurant located directly next door is convenient if you're looking to get out of your camper/ tent. The only downside to this place is the bathrooms. They could use some serious updating and maybe some additional bathrooms - on a busy weekend the bathrooms stayed occupied. read more

Had a great weekend camping in Frisco Woods. Great location very close to the historical Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The bath house was relatively clean. The trash was taken out on a very regular basis. Some of the camp areas are a bit close together but we were able to easily change to a different location. The staff was helpful and recommended good fishing spots and things to do. Further off the beach so less sea salt spray and bugs. The main cabin had lots of camping supplies, food, hot coffee, etc. read more

Have come here for the last few years and never had a problem, apparently they are under new ownership or management this summer and let me just say I will never return. Was screamed at by the owner for my dog not being on a leash (many other people around us had dogs unleashed as well and nothing was said to them). He was extremely rude and unprofessional. I would have no problem with this if he had been somewhat civilized instead of charging up, screaming and demanding that THIS DOG BE PUT ON A LEASH....well sir, maybe your wife or girlfriend should put YOU on a leash. That is NO way to talk to a woman. read more

we stayed for 8 days (extended a day b/c we didn't want to leave) in a 35' TT with a dog and 3 school-age kids. fraction of the cost from the bigger campgrounds - awesome sound views and we stayed at C8 (on the canal). we fished and crabbed from site. pool was always clean and its huge. laundry facilities were nice and all worked. staff was pleasant and camp store had most things you would need. sites are large and level. 5 min drive to the beach and a great restaurant in walking distance from campground. we will definitely come back. read more
