We loved our stay here for the most part. Sites are close, but it seems to be the way with most private campgrounds. A few things need to be addressed. I wish more places had covered picnic areas on site to rent. This would be one of those places. The wind was rough and we couldn't keep our canopy up. The lime on the shower faucet and water pressure in the bathroom could be improved. Vinegar once a week in a baggie on the shower head would be a great start! Otherwise, fabulous facilities as far as updated and cleanliness. The laundry area was clean and priced fairly. We found the facilities, while older pretty nice. Seasonal rates would be welcomed at off season times, but I suppose they aren't interested in extra income for unused sites. All in all though, this is a great place for a week. read more

Attended an LTV RV Rally here and enjoyed our stay on the sound side of the campground. Jen C was extremely helpful and responsive in supporting reservations with our group and answering questions in a timely fashion. The Conf center with sound views was spacious and clean, perfect for accommodating our meetings and activities scheduled during our stay. The bath house was clean and spacious and well maintained. All sites have full hook ups and were in great shape with level concrete pads and picnic tables. There are plenty of water sports activities to enjoy within walking distance to the campground as well as several restaurants and shops. read more

It's our last night here which we are very sad! My husband thought he booked our site until this Monday, but we realized we have to check out tomorrow. It has been an amazing and wonderful vacation for both of us and our pug, Lola. They have so many amenities such as: a beautiful beach, two swimming pools, hot tub, daily activities for the kids and adults, video game room, camp store, very clean bathrooms and showers, laundry room, full hook ups, dog park, tennis court, basketball court, playground, and the employees that work here are very friendly and helpful. We loved it here and we hope to come back some day. Thank you for making our stay the best! My only suggestion is I wish there was an entrance to the middle bathroom house without having to cut in between sites to get to it. We really enjoyed this place. We stayed on the beach side since we love the beach. Granted there are sand dunes that block direct views of the water, but they also protect the park in bad weather. It's a large place. Clean and well manicured. Super level concrete sites. Pads are large. Cable was great. Wifi ... almost worthless. I did download some stuff overnight that should have taken maybe 10 minutes. It was windy. But it's the beach so we flew kites. There are some decent places to get seafood. I suggest you run south to Waves Seafood we ate shrimp outside one evening also brought about 20 oz of steamed shrimp back to the RV one night. There is parking near a pavilion at the beach side so if you rent a site away from the beach you can drive and park. The laundry was small but clean. We don't use the showers, so no option there. We asked if we could leave later that the 11 leaving time and for 25 bucks we stayed till 4. Not bad given that we would have had to wait at the next place for a few hours. For a full disclosure, I've stayed at seriously nice RV resorts on a beach that cost two times what this place does. However, this place is maybe 75% as nice and that's a great deal in my book. So what if there is not a $$$$ restaurant on site... we enjoy asking the locals where they eat seafood. read more

I've never written a negative review but after choosing Camp Hatteras RV resort in Rodanthe based on YouTube video reviews that painted it in such a positive light, I feel compelled to share that wasn't our experience unfortunately. While the location is great, and some of the staff were very nice, management may want to consider some of their policies and the consistency in how they enforce them. We called the day before our arrival to see if we could get a spot near our friends who had arrived a couple of days earlier. They had reserved the same type of sight at the same rate as we had. The campground was nowhere close to being full and we were told if we had wanted to be near our friends we should have paid the $25 fee in advance to reserve a specific site. She then told us that next year we will need to pay $25 to have a spot near our friends. Again...there were plenty of available sites in the premium price range that we had reserved so it shouldn't have been a problem to accommodate our request. We weren't asking to be right next door to them...just close by. On the day of arrival, we had traveled more than 6 hours and arrived at 12:35pm. We pulled up and were told we couldn't enter until 1pm and they wouldn't allow us to park in the staging area to wait 25 minutes where they had multiple lanes open. We understood that check in is at 1 and we would have understood if they were still waiting for people to leave but there was hardly anyone there...the campground was probably not even a quarter full. We were then told if they let us in early we would expect to be able to arrive early next year and we were asked to leave the premises. We drove 20 minutes down the road before we could find a place to turn around and go back. At check in, they assigned us a spot and we drove to set up only to discover we would be directly in front of the garbage dumpsters...our outdoor setup would have been literally feet away from the smell of garbage. Again...there were plenty of other open sites. When we complained about the site they did agree to move us but weren't very friendly about it. Several days later, we saw a group of RVs that had traveled together and were set up together. They told us they did not pay $25 fees. We also saw RVs checking in before 1pm and given spots on arrival. Overall we were really disappointed with our experience at Camp Hatteras. To be told if we pay $25 next year to be near our friends or if we arrive early next year we would expect to check in early felt as though we were being talked down to or punished in some way. They don't need to worry about our expectations to stay near friends or arrive early next year because we won't be returning. And we won't be recommending this place to our many friends with RVs. Camp Hatteras...you need to do better. read more

There are a million reasons KOA has better reviews. Better access to amenities, better customer service, it is cleaner, there are fire pits, and it often costs less (I would have paid $125 less for my stay). I emailed twice, and called three times after my friend ignorantly made reservations here. I still ended up being screwed. "We will fix that right away!" NOT! They need to; clean their bathrooms, fix the crumbling hot tub, have an informative website and app, and be nicer to their customers. By the way, leave the grandparents at home. I saw the issues some poor woman was having on crutches. Even the ramps needed a ramp. She was hopping up to get onto the ramp. Walkers, canes and wheelchairs would not do well here. read more

Great place to park the RV. We stayed on the bay side waterfront 2 weeks before the season started and were essentially all alone. The sunsets were amazing with no dunes blocking the water view like they do on the oceanfront. Staff were very friendly and many places within walking distance to eat, snack or drink. Next time I come I will most likely bring my kayaks as you can drop straight in the water from the site we were in. There is a large room with cards, games, tv, ect that we only saw at check-in but would be a nice place to hangout if weather took a nosedive it just wanted a change of scenery. They do have a pool but we never used it so can't say much there. read more

Stayed here for the 1st time with my family from June 4th, to June 10th. (we left a day early due to our long road trip home!) It is a very nice campground. We stayed on the ocean side, but the sound side actually had more water views. Also the sites are very close together, so one can hear your neighbors. There are activities for the kids, such as an ice cream social, and tie dye. They also have 2 pools: one indoor and outdoor (plus a hot tub!) Pool was never too crowded, but it is a hike to get everywhere in the campground. for instance, the pools and activities were up front. I would have a pool in the middle of the campground, and one on each side. it is also a hike to travel to other places such as the wright musuem, and other attractions. also, there weren't really much recommendations on attractions-- in other words, the campground should be aware of the restaurants and attractions around by having pamplets in the office or something. Anyways. Pool was always clean and refreshing. Both the office bathroom, and the bathroom on the ocean side near the faucet were clean! overall had a fun time! read more

This is an awesome place to stay! We come here every year and absolutely love it! We got chased out by the hurricane this year and the owner was very easy to deal with and we were able to re-book next year using the credit (they did offer a refund, but we knew we would be coming back). The sites are real close to the beach and the pools and hot-tub are a nice touch. If there is one negative it would be the WiFi. The signal is almost non-existent on the campground. The clubhouse has a good signal, but they should put a better WiFi on the grounds. read more

Horrific customer service and the worst reservation communication we've ever experienced at any RV Resort or Campground. There are a TON of other options available in the area and you will be FAR better off reserving at a different place (we wish we did). Their website is not accurate describing amenities, emails after reserving are misleading (and totally inaccurate) and staff is extremely rude and flippant when communicating with guests. Management takes a very nonchalant attitude when confronted with issues and refuses to deliver any type of solution for problems presented. We'll be telling everyone we know who may be visiting the Outer Banks area to definitely stay somewhere else. If you do plan on staying here I'd suggest coming in with very low expectations!!! We absolutely loved experiencing the Outer Banks and plan on coming back soon but will NEVER stay here again! read more

It was ok. I paid extra for the site beachfront but you didn't see any of the ocean. You saw sand dunes. I wish I stayed on the bay side to see the water. I would never have paid extra for a site to look at dunes. Not many activities for the kids. A movie outdoor would be nice. The pools are very basic. A slide would even make it a little better. The boyfriend's parents have been members for somewhere near 30 years and I was looking forward to checking out where he spent his summers. They generally stay on site for 2 weeks at a time and we had a chance to go Labor Day weekend. This was my first visit to any kind of RV park/campground so I was really unsure of what to expect. It certainly was an ideal spot for a beach vacation. We were about halfway between the entrance and the beach, with a bathhouse right near our location. The grounds were clean as was the beach and sound areas across the highway. They had several activities throughout the day that you could participate in for a small fee ($1-2) including arts and crafts for kids, cornhole, bingo, karaoke, ice cream socials.. the list goes on. Bathrooms and showers were kept fairly clean as was the clubhouse, which had a good selection of games, books, etc. The main office has a store that you can buy snacks, drinks and essentials for your trip. Loved this place and can't wait to return! read more

We have been coming here once a year for the past 6 years....the key advantages of CH compared to others in the area is that every spot has a concrete pad, and the stunning views from the "sound side" spots. A common problem with beach campgrounds is that if you book a spot on the "oceanfront" you don't actually see the ocean from your camper because of the dunes. This time we rented a golf cart for the first time and had a great sound-side spot, so we watched the sunset on the water every night and had an easy drive to the beach during the day. The only reason not to give CH 5 stars is that the amenities are quite lacking, especially compared to the newly renovated KOA next door. An update to the pool, camp store, and creation of a snack bar are definitely needed to maintain our business. read more

Staff is always pleasant. It's need a few upgrades laundry rooms don't always work third-party service. Access to the beach are filled with sand including the steps make it difficult if you have issues walking. The sites are fairly nice and long but are tight against your neighbors and are very difficult to back in if you have big rigs. Please check out satellite map before you pick your site. Access to some of bath houses need to be updated. Electricity and water seems to work perfect no issues there. Lots of wind so leave your canopies in and awnings also. read more

Worst camping trip ever! Might have been ok if the weather hadn't been a torrential rain storm. This park FLOODS! It was a mess. Couldn't get to my vehicle without walking through (underwater) muddy grass....with 2 boys and a husband you can just imagine what my truck floors and trailer look like. The wind picked up, blew my hat off into a super mud pit, so that's in the garbage, same fate for my brand new rug that I was trying to dry out. I'll be checking out a different park if I ever decide to return to this area. read more

There is no statement on their website about their pool being closed. Their website also made the camp "resort" seem amazing and luxurious, when it is the complete opposite. The location is amazing! You have the ocean on side and sound on the other, what's not to love? Well let me fill you in, first they advertise free WiFi as one of their amenities, which you'll soon find out you have to go to a conference room, it's not available at you camp site. Social distancing; apparently they have never heard of Covid-19. You're packed in so tight you can hear people's conversations. We absolutely LOVED Camp Hatteras! The rv spaces are big and plenty of room to spread out. The enforce the quit time and security drives around a lot to make sure everyone is doing good and people are safe. My almost 16 yr old and his buddy had a blast swimming in the ocean (which was a 2 min walk from our camp), swimming in either the indoor pool and outdoor pool, playing basketball, mini golf, shuttle board and pool in the game room. People seem to forget there was a hurricane about 5 yrs ago and a lot of the trees were destroyed. One person complained about no trees to help with shade, most tent campers (that is all we did for 20 yrs before buying our first travel trailer) made sure they had tarp and poles to create shade. Yes, tress would be great but this place is fanfreakintastic!! We will be back read more

A great campground with options of Oceanside or soundside spots. The bath houses are clean and the beach is only a short walk away if staying on soundside. There is ample beach parking and bike rack space if biking to the beach. Spots are close together but not so much so that you can't enjoy yourself. Sunsets are to die for so we prefer to stay on that side for the cheaper rate anyway. Super dog friendly too! Only downside is the WiFi is nonexistent but I really don't come to the beach for WiFi so it's not a deal breaker. Highly recommend! read more

This place is great if you want to have a good camping trip! Me and my cousin went on the trip from Chicago and enjoyed a lot despite the long drive and shortened trip because of Hurricane Isais. The ocean and the sound are both beautiful! There is so much to do here with boat and jet-ski rentals. There are also a lot of restraunts with good food and music. Don't waste your money on this campground. It is far from a "resort". There are plenty of campgrounds in the Outer Banks that are less crowded, less expensive, and have the same or more amenities. We were deceived by their "Ocean Side" ... their description should say "Dune View"... nowhere from this campground can you see the ocean. The review I am reading (John G.) from June 16th is the day we left early, only to NOT be refunded any portion of the third day even though the "free wifi" didn't work the entire two days we actually stayed there. We were told AFTER our stay that they were aware of the problems with wifi but hadn't gotten it fixed yet because of COVID-19. So, couldn't they have put that notice on their website? This great "customer service" was not observed by me at all. Our situation was handled pretty much by them doing nothing -- in fact, we didn't really get even so much as a sincere apology. Because we wouldn't be able to come back within a year (as we live over 600 miles away), we were pretty much given the "heave-ho" and "sucks to be you". Unlike Jon B.'s review of going back every year. I don't know, maybe if we hadn't been treated like our money was worth less than some local North Carolinian, we might have entertained returning. Meh, there's other beaches that are just as pretty -- all feature sunrises, sand, and ocean. :) read more

Absolutely love this place. See the sunrise on the ocean side and the sunset on the Pamlico sound side. The campground is well kept, and the management is 5 out of 5 stars. The staff is friendly and also very responsive to my questions. Easy online reservations and check-in, and the camp store has everything you need. My husband and I stayed for 10 days and we were really impressed by the size of the sites, for a campground on the beach. We looked at other campgrounds in the area, and they were not even close. We are planning a visit again soon, and highly recommend this campground. read more

Overall nice campground. As to be expected with an oceanfront campground, the sites are very close together. On their website they advertise as having oceanfront sites at a premium cost, but in reality they are not oceanfront. There is a street and parking area in between the sites and the ocean. Also, no view of the ocean just the dunes. Seems like the bay side would be better with water views. Not sure as we were "oceanfront". The campground is pretty quite even though it is jam packed full. It is very pet friendly, which is very much appreciated. The staff was friendly and the campground looked clean. We did not use the bathhouse or laundry facilities, so I am unsure what condition they were in. I did see a negative with the laundry facility in that you cannot drive up to it. There are no side walks to it either. You have to cut across a grassy field like area. That doesn't seem convenient when you are having to carry loads of laundry in the heat (if staying in the summertime). Overall, a nice area. We enjoyed our stay. read more

I normally dont leave reviews. But with such a bad temper Mr. Tom has at this place it needs to be known. Had reservations for labor day weekend. My wife calls to cancel them and speaks to a nice lady on the phone. She checks her email and the dates and the amount didnt line up with our reservations. So she calls back and gets Mr. Tom. He was very rude to her and had a bad attitude. He didnt get our problem fixed and prolly wont get our deposit back either. Mind you we are ~ 3 weeks from the time were suppose to check in. This is the perfect Outer Banks RV Campground. We stayed in the sound side and the views were breathtaking. The spaces gave you room to feel alone and the spots were dead level. The employees were fun, helpful and very nice. The bathrooms, laundry rooms and common areas were immaculate The outdoor pool was a great spot to swim and get some sun. There are piers to fish on and gear access on the beach side. It is located in a great spot with a space to rent boats and wave runners right next door! Felt like home to us! We decided to go tent camping on Cape Hatteras for vacation. Camp Hatteras is really for RVs even though they are able to accommodate for tents. Sites are too close to each other and there are absolutely no trees, which means no shade and no easy way to put up a tarp for extra shelter. Also, you pay way too much for a site like this. I would have preferred to just rent a condo for a couple days (and I'm an avid camper). On the plus side, the beach is just over the dunes (about 200 yards from our site). And many shops and restaurants are within walking distance. The employees seemed very friendly, but I only talked with them at check-in. Most of our neighbors were friendly, although it felt like we had Cujo to one side of us. All-in-all, I was not terribly impressed with this camp site and wouldn't recommend it for tent campers. read more

Had an awesome Memorial Day weekend here! We had 6 people in our party and everyone loved it! Most all of the sites are a short walk to the beach! There's a pool, a hot tub, in door pool, basketball courts etc.. all kinds of activities for everyone. The bath houses are cleaned once an hour and are very clean. Really enjoyed our stay. Our favorite Campground in OBX. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We always stay on the ocean side. Sound side is very nice and quiet but the main 2 way road to cross over to ocean side can get very busy. Yes the campers can be a little close especially closer to the beach but I've never had an issue and we spend most of our time at the beach anyway. Thats how most campgrounds at the beach are anyway. Golf cart and dog friendly. We dont have young kids so we go late August/early September and never see any kids there. There's a decent number of restaurants nearby. I dont use the bathhouse so I cant comment on that but the dog park is well maintained. We had to evacuate this year due to Florence and the situation was very well handled. Was a nice clean campground but too crowded for us. There were over 300 campsites and of course we were in the farthest spot from the ocean. It was a pretty good hike to get to the ocean and no ocean view. A nice campground if you are looking for a lot of unsupervised kids and adults that have consumed a little too much alcohol. The town was beautiful so we will probably be back for that but won't stay at this campground again. read more

So, I pretty much fell in love with this place the moment we pulled up. Friendly, organized, clean and with plenty to do. Clubhouse if you want to organize a game night or kick back and watch tv, an indoor and an outdoor pool, hot tub, free mini golf and just a quick step off of the beach. Grounds are clean, bathrooms as well. We couldn't get enough. I'd decided I was coming back before we'd even finished our first trip. Hands down my favorite campground so far. We've stayed at both this campground and the Cape Hatteras KOA. Both campgrounds are very nice. This campground has all paved sites (KOA doesn't) which is really nice to keep out sand/rain water and it's already leveled. Actually the entire campground is paved so it makes it easier to get around than gravel. Both campgrounds have nice access to Ocean and Sound. I will say this campground is harder to get around directly to beach access and bathhouse as there are circles and no cut throughs without walking through someone's site which we don't do. We have to walk around more but it cuts down on traffic going through our street so maybe not a negative. It would be nice to have direct access to the bathhouse and beach accesses from our site without having to go all around the circle though! The campground has lots of activities and things to do. We were bummed we couldn't get into the KOA as we had booked a year in advance and had to change our week last minute. We decided to try this place which had availability (almost next door to the KOA) and are very pleased with what this place offers. The staff is friendly and we are very happy with the campground. We took a last minute vacation to te Outer Banks on 4th of July weekend. The campground cost was $85 for a sound side spot or $115 for ocean side full hookup. We stayed sound side in a clean but very small campsite. Our new neighbors were very close. The walk to the beach was long when carrying a full roller cooler, chairs, and towels. Alot of people had rented golf carts. We looked into them but for $150 a day it wasn't worth it. Bicycles were $10 per day. We brought a bike and put it to good use. I recommend bringing one for each person in your group if possible. It makes visited the nearby shops easier. We found an awesome little seafood market (Austins) about 5 minute ride from us. The beach was clean and not too crowded. Even though we didn't use jet skis $85ph, the ramp is right next door and that looks very convenient. Improvement: there is no direct walking trail toward beach. You have to walk along the road which goes out of the way and is narrow, especially with large campers driving by. They could have a trolley or golf cart transportation available to bring from camper to beach. We would have gladly paid. My 7 year son son tripped and scuffed his knees all up on the walk and we asked if security could bring him up to beach and they replied no and that the walk will be fine. They had two golf carts and 2 people just talking. It was just frustrating.. read more
