I probably would only rent this for a few days compared to a week since I don't feel we really got the price out of it, but the people that own this business are stellar! We had the car almost go dead on us after only a few miles (it was ok after that) and they actually brought another car to make sure that it wasn't the car. We opted to keep the two seater. It was a lot of fun, but a little on the pricey side. We would rent again just due to the care and customer experience! read more

Had an EIGHT hour delivery window! WTF?! So we were at our private pool (on the side of our rental home) when delivery was made. We realized the car had been delivered & we're finishing up swimming when we heard a truck out front and then saw a man driving the car back up onto the delivery truck! My daughter went out to question the man who said they "had been calling us all day" and had knocked on the front door at 11:30. Don't know what door that was because we were still in the house at that time! And the phone number they were calling was an old home number from 20 years ago! I have NO idea how they got that number because that is NOT the number my daughter and I submitted to them! But really he was just going to drive off with the car when we were clearly visible in the pool to the side of the driveway?! And we had been waiting for the car all day! We rented for 4 days(even though we never got delivery until 4 pm!) and there was a $350 holding fee so my card was charged like $900! I fortunately had the money to cover that but better make sure your account can cover those steep costs! read more

Eric and Val are awesome. We rented one of the electric Buggies and had so much fun. Eric was great when I didnt charge it enough. He picked me up drove me back to charge it and was just great to talk to. I can't say enough about them and how much fun it was to cruise the streets. We got so many questions and compliments on it. read more

Everything started off good, then the problems-cheap charging cable overheated and falsely was saying it was charging the gem car (mind you) 120$ a day to drive these with a minimum two day rental, got to use it once the first day and then had to go through anxiety trying to make it back to the owners camp site for a tow back to our campsite. Got the run around about it's his first year with these cars and it seemed to charge fine the previous night (like I don't know how to plug a plug in) received new plug and worked fine. For unseen circumstances had to leave at noon the next day and they held my 350$ deposit (that's right 350$ deposit) for an extra 4 hours when told it would be released asap! Then my pro-rated reimbursement was gonna be a easily 25$ until I called and again the run around-finally was able to come to a deal but again the whole thing was ludicrous and expensive for one and a half times of usage. They don't know what they're doing and the customer pays for it! read more

We rented a beach wheelchair for my mother in law. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. Great customer service!

This place is great!! The owners are the nicest people. We have rented from them twice now and have been very pleased. They go above an beyond. We had an issue with a golf cart (turned out to just be the reset switch) and they were very responsive and even credited us one day rental fee to apologize. Will definitely use them again. Highly recommend. read more

We went down to Cape Hattaras for a week this year. We rented a Jeep Wrangler from Island Cruisers for the duration of our stay. This is a very friendly local business. They were extremely flexible and friendly. We were high maintenance customers and they were always willing to help. Nothing beats riding on the beach! I would suggest requesting a hitch mounted storage rack. They supply them on request. The jeeps have limited storage space. Can't wait to return! read more

Wow. Cant give enough compliments about my experience with this rental car company. First I googled places to obtain a rental car in the Cape Hatteras area. Me and my family were flying in for an extended weekend in early October. I called Island cruisers and was pleasantly greeted. I was then emailed by Valerie with specifics about the rental. We opted for the large size SUV, a diesel suburban. I provided her with copies of proof of insurance, drivers license and credit card. It went as smoothly as it possibly could go. We were flying into Billy Mitchell and she assured us that the vehicle would be there waiting for us, no checking in or anything of that sort. The keys would be with the vehicle sitting next to the ramp of the airport. We flew down on a Saturday morning, I landed and we unloaded our bags out of the airplane we were easily saw our rental vehicle. I searched all over for the keys to the rental but could not find them anywhere. I called Valerie and she quickly helped me locate the keys and we were on our way. The vehicle ran great the entire trip. We used it to ride all over the outer banks and didn't have one glitch with the entire adventure. We left the vehicle at the airport in the same spot we picked it up in, called Valerie and told her that it was back and secure. Loaded up in the airplane and off we went. Great place and great people. I cant give them enough praise. If you're looking to book a rental in the Cape Hatteras region, look no further. read more

Island Cruisers saved our vacation! We were staying in the 4x4 area on Carova Beach. The Toyota 4Runner that we rented and were told was four wheel drive was really only rear wheel drive. Desperately, we called Island Cruisers at a day/time they were closed. Not only did they answer, but they had a vehicle ready for us when we got there. Vacation rescued! This is a wonderful, local, family owned operation. We had a late 90's model suburban with a lot of miles, but well cared for. Drove great and was awesome on the sand. Four adults and one ten year old fit great. We definitely will call here first on our next trip to the Outer Banks!! read more

What an awesome family business! Thanks so much for the opportunity to rent a 4 x 4 vehicle and a chance to cruise the beach! As someone with a disability, sometimes it is very difficult and near impossible to get out there for the day with all my gear. Eric and Valerie offered a fun Tracker at a reasonable price that took me and my pups out for a day on the sand. Can't recommend this business enough! They even gave me some maps with suggestions on "quieter" beach spots. Only wish I could visit more often! Thanks guys! read more

Island Cruisers is one of a kind! They actually deserve 10 stars. The owners sincerely listen to what your needs are and what will make happy. Their price are beyond reasonable and probably lowest on the island. My golf cart was the perfect fit for me. read more

Eric and Valerie run a great little operation. Cruising up and down NC 12 on a vintage dune buggy is a great way to enjoy Hatteras Island. Ask to see Eric's Baja Bug for a real surprise. read more

They say you can see the true chararcter of a person when you're in need of their help. When our truck broke down in Hatteras Island, we saw the true character of the locals. After looking online, using Yelp, and Foursquare to find a repair shop, the closest dealer was 80 miles away. I started calling around only to find people suggesting places closer to our location, because of the towing cost. Being the skeptic that I am, and because I'm in the car business, I was looking for info on the local suggestions. Finding none, I decided to go on faith. We ended up at My Mechanic At The Beach located at the Lighthouse Service Center in Buxton. They were able to look at the car immediatly and quickly diagnosed the problem, looked up the parts, and ordered what was necessary. They promised me we would have the car back the next day. Knowing we were stuck with no transportation, Brian gave us the number of his buddy who owned Island Cruisers in Salvo. I called them and they were able to reserve a "Beast" for us. They offered to pick us up or deliver the vehicle, but being shorthanded, gave us the number for the Island Hopper Shuttle Service. The Shuttle picked us up in about 10 minutes and we were on our way to get the "Beast" so we could continue on with our vacation plans. Valerie, the owner of Island Cruisers, got us in the "Beast" and we were quickly on our way. Valerie even provided us with a binder full of info for sightseeing and events on the Island. As promised, our truck was completed early the next day. They did an impecable job on the repair and it drives great. Unfortunately, we had to take the "Beast" back to Island Cruisers. But I promised Valerie we would be back in August, under better circumstances, to rent a VW Buggie. This whole experience and dealing with these 3 locally owned and operated businesses was incredible. They were able to make an unexpected situation less stressful than it could have been. In the event you need a repair station, shuttle service, or just a cool beach rental vehicle while visiting the lower villages (Salvo to Hatteras), I would highly reccomend checking out these 3 businesses. read more

Few times in life do you meet such a wonderfully run business. This company is family run and helped make our OBX wedding dreams a reality with their excellent service. We have rented a wrangler 4x4 and a convertible from them and both experiences have been so smooth. Their rates are reasonable and they are very accommodating when it comes to pickup and return times. I highly recommend them. read more

I rented a Jeep Wrangler for two days (12-13 May). I called ahead a made a reservation and Valerie met us promptly as agreed. The Jeep was very well maintained. It was a 97 model with slightly more than 200K miles but it drove great! Before departing they gave you plenty of instruction on how to take the top and sides down, use the four wheel drive, and tips/rules for driving on the beaches. They also provided a book with a lot of local info as well as how to contact them if there was a problem. They live there and know there area well and suggested areas to check out. I rent a lot of vehicles on business and deal with all the major car rental agencies, but Island Cruisers, INC. is definitely above the other agencies in terms of vehicle availability and customer service. If and when I get back to the area, I will rent from them again. I highly recommend them and they have several locations and drop off/pick up points for convenience. read more

I would highly recommend Island Cruisers for SUV rentals in the Outer Banks NC area. My husband and I found ourselves in a pickle when our vehicle broke down in Avon, NC. We ended up needing the rental a little longer than originally expected and they were completely accomendating. It was after 5PM when we were able to take the SUV back and they allowed to just drop it off after hours. Super nice people. read more

Prices perfect and customer service top notch. But this older model Jeep Cherokee was far from safe. Brakes were hard to operate, front end alignment impacted steering and keeping on the road and parts of vehicle were hanging down, pieces inside had fallen off, and the AC struggled to work. Perfect to have a vehicle to cruise around for our visit to the OBX and local short trips. Even offered free pick up and delivery which is hard to find. read more

Amazing service and amazing people. Valerie the lady at the front desk is so nice and it had that great beachy feel. Amazing, calm chocolate lab that was the most adorable thing. We rented a Jeep Wrangler for the day so we could go 4-Wheeling on the beaches and the process of renting the Jeep took a while but it was worth it. At first it seems like a low quality shack but getting to meet the people makes up for it. It had been an all around dream of mine or ride in a Jeep and they made that happen. They were extremely helpful and they know a lot about the beaches and roads!! I will always use them if I need to rent a 4-wheeler!!! Recommend to anyone looking for rentals! read more
