I just wanted to send a quick review. We stay in Rodanthe every year and had an issue where our car window would not close. We were facing an 8 hour car ride with a 14 year old and a 5 year old and no air conditioning. I know this is a 1st world type of problem, but it was our problem. We took the car to A-ok and he was able to fix the issue the next day. The price was reasonable and he even parked the car under his carport so it would not be so hot when I picked it up. The only small complaint was that he only accepts cash. I guess that is understandable with such transient customers but acceptance of credit cards would be more convenient. If you are vacationing in the Hatteras region and have car troubles Jeff at A Ok is the place to go. Probably pretty much the only place which makes his reasonable prices and great service even more special. read more

I called in a weekend asking for a mechanic to have a look at my car that wouldn't start, because this business shows as operating Saturday and Sunday....24/7 as a matter of fact. I had Mr Ok Mechanic on the phone saying he is not in a mood to work because it was to hot outside, and trying to expedite me as fast as possible, which he managed gratefully. I am not sure he is trying to run a business or an island parade... I would stay away and look for Dale's Auto Service instead. Business owner should, cut straight to the chase and remove the 24/7 BS from the web. read more

He absolutely saved my butt! My family and I were 30 minutes into our 8 hour return home when the check engine light came on and the engine started missing badly. Quick google search indicated he was the only mechanic open for miles. Even though it was Saturday afternoon he met us in his driveway and was able to fix our bad plug and get the car running great. Best part, he only charged $85 for the repair. If not for him, I was looking at hundreds in towing and possibly missing days of work waiting for other shops to open on monday. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! this is by far the worst place I've ever gone! My boyfriend and I were on vacation and I needed a new radiator called Aokay the guy charged us $400 in labor the radiator was only $200 after 2 days!!!! finally fixed it We get home 6 hours later and my light for the radiator comes on went to open the hood AND CAN'T! !!!! cause he broke the handle! now my car has over heated and I have to spend even more money to fix what Aokay should have already done! So thank you for the Aokay service! This guy should read more

Good guy. Wife and I were down for the Christmas break and went to leave on a sunday and the truck would not start. Tried everything and nothing worked. Called them up on a sunday at noon and he was there in about 40 minutes. He quickly determined it was the fuel pump and since it was sunday there were no parts stores open. He was able to get it running and said to not turn the truck off until we got home. Charged a few dollars for his expertise and we were on the way. The fix held for the ride home and the fuel pump was most definately bad but he got us up and running. read more

I give it one star only because I cannot go less. At the KOA 1/4 mile from this operation. Called and told him my issue, timing off or bad plug wire I think... Told me couldn't make it right away but prob later on this evening. Told it's fine I just need done by Friday am. Said he'd call when in his way. That was Wed around 1. During my stay in outer banks my tire pressure light came on. As someone who does not know much about cars I was very nervous as our 6 hour drive back home was the next day. I found A Ok on yelp and went because of their reviews. They were so nice and helpful for a great price (I was worried they would try to overcharge me as many auto shops do). Even though it was just tire issues they helped me right on the spot and I didn't have to wait at all. I would highly recommend! read more

Joe is a complete sweetheart. While coming down for vacation I had an issue with my ABS light. I called him Saturday and he took my car in on Sunday and continued to work on it. Even through Labor Day. He also won't rip you off. What he originally thought was the problem wasn't and he told me and save me hundreds. Traveling on very flooded NC12 in Avon made the splash shield under my engine come loose. It was making quite a racket and it also activated a couple of warning lights. Joe got right to it and took care of everything at a reasonable price...even at 5 p.m. on a Friday afternoon. Great to know there's someone like him here on the island. Honest & nice guy. Last thing we were thinking on vacation was car trouble. Our window was stuck open. Called and saw us quickly. The part was ordered and was fixed promptly the next day. Charged us a fair price and we didn't have to drive home in the sweltering heat with our window down. Even gave us advice to try to prevent this from happening in the future. Tire light comes on - check yelp- 2 minutes away is A-OK - in and out in 15 minutes. Found nail in tire, plugged and charged 20 bucks. Next tire place was 55 miles away. On our way from Kinnakeet Shores to Philly....thank goodness he exists and is good!! read more
