A couple of days before the end of our vacation on the Outer Banks, in Salvo, NC. Car would not start, at all. Had it towed to Dale's. He actually drove his own vehicle to our beach house to pick us and our massive amount of beach luggage, take us back to his shop. My daughter and I were in a real fix, needing to get back to Pittsburgh. He let us arrange our hotel in Chesapeake, VA where the car had to be towed (no Hyundai dealers on the Outer Banks) on his own shop's computer because my eyes are too old to do that stuff on my phone. When he came over to our beach house, I ranted for several minutes about our pretty bad troubles. He let me finish, and then said, How can I help? He had accurately diagnosed my car's troubles but (supply chain delays) could not get the part. He made everything easy. He even connected us with a wonderful shuttle service that got us off the island and into Virginia. He had spent the better part of 2 days studying our car's troubles and being interrupted by panicky phone calls from me. He charged us....$0. A real prince and a gentleman. We are currently staying on Hatteras Island for vacation and my daughter drove down to stay with us. She told me that she felt that the brakes were not working properly. After looking online I found Dale's Auto Service in Salvo, North Carolina. I called them and spoke to Dale himself. Despite the short notice, he was able to squeeze me in. Dale called me that evening and told me that the brakes were fine and he was able to diagnose that the driving habits of my daughter caused this certain issue and that it was normal. He also stated that the brake pads had plenty of life in them and everything else looks fine. He even told me there would be no charge for the diagnosis. Who does that these days? Obviously I was very happy with Dale's professionalism and overall he's just a very nice guy. I want to give him 10 stars. We were on vacation in Hatteras when our car would not start. We were nervous that we would not be able to get our car fixed in time to drive back to Ohio. We called AAA and they recommended two places within 3 miles of our car. The first would not pick up the phone and the second told us they were "too busy" to take a look at us. We did a search and found Dale's. We called and Dale tried to problem solve with us on the phone and said he would be happy to take a look at it. We had our car towed to him. We are so thankful that we did!! He was friendly, honest, and completely fixed our car issue. He charged us a price that we considered more than fair. Although most people would consider car issues on vacation a terrible thing to happen, we consider ourselves lucky to have met such a good person in this world! read more

I want to thank Dale personally for going out of his way on a hot August Saturday afternoon to help an out of towner broken down on Ocracoke Island with no place to go. I was able to get Jarvis towing out of Buxton North Carolina to tow my car off the island and to his shop on Saturday afternoon where he unselfishly made room in his busy schedule to fix my car! No questions asked! He was genuinely one of the only people I know left in the crazy world who went out of his way for someone he didn't know! He professionally and quickly fixed my car so I could return home 8 hours away that same night. Today when we went to leave our rental house our Honda Civic did not want to budge. With some jostling the emergency brake finally clicked off though the brakes were creaky as we headed out of town. To be on the safe side we stopped at Dale's as it was the only station we found on our way out of town and brakes are pretty important. After pulling in he quickly diagnosed the issue as relating to the salt water we had driven through the day before. As four women unfamiliar to the area and cars, he could have easily fleeced us for a few bucks. Without even having to look at our car he quickly eased our fears and got us on the toad home. My 1989 Landcruiser broke down on Ocracoke island. No spark. The only mechanic on the island was to busy (and unfriendly) to take my vehicle. I called around to various mechanics on Hatteras and Dale was the only one who took my call. Super friendly and willing to help! After getting towed to his shop, he did his best to get me up and running right then and there. After realizing that a new distributor was needed, he went out of his way to get the part. Our car was making a very loud noise from the right front and had steering wheel vibration. We feared it was the drive axle. We dropped the car off in the afternoon of July 3rd. Dale called us that evening with his diagnosis and EXTREMELY REASONABLE quote. The car was ready by 1:30pm on July 5th and the bill was even LESS than what he quoted!!! We arrived at Camp Hatteras on Saturday to find that the brake line on our jeep wrangler had rusted out and was leaking brake fluid. We called Dale on Sunday and he answered the phone. He said bring it by Monday at 9 and he'd see what he could do. He called us at 2:30 that afternoon and said he had replaced the brake line and we were ready to go. His bill was only $128, would have been 3 times that back home. He is truly a great mechanic and an honest man. read more

First time in Avon, NC. Shortly after arriving I got a screw in one of the tires. Needless to say it was flat a couple of days later. Online search of tire repair near me showed Dale's Auto Service as #1. Took the tire there expecting to drop it off and pick up a couple of hours later, but Dale removed the screw and plugged the tire in minutes for a minimal price. Had check engine light come on highway during trip. Stopped at Autozone to scan for code. Misfire in one cylinder. In Salvo, Dale was able to order parts by the next morning. Dropped car off, a few hours later he called and told me it was ready. He swapped coils and cleaned spark plugs. No new parts were needed so none were used. Dale truly is the savior of Salvo. Our alternator blew up on avon late Saturday evening. We were able to find an alternator but thought there would be no way we'd find a mechanic around to fix it on a sunday am for our ride home. We called Dale and sure enough he was ready to fix it Sunday morning. He fixed it immediately at a very reasonable price and we made our 400 mile journey home without any hiccups. read more

We're from Virginia Beach and my son drove his truck to Rodanthe to surf. He started having issues with his truck so I called Dale's and he got him in that afternoon to take a look. While on vacation in the Outer Banks our car developed a bad AC leak. Went to Dale's based on his great reviews and was not disappointed. On the way to Salvo from Alexandria, Va my brakes started scraping. I took it to Dale's Monday and had it back Tues. morning. He said all it needed was front brake pads. If I had taken it to a big chain repair place up here they would have replaced a lot more than just pads at many times what he charged. Great guy!! read more

After driving through some sand, the plastic undercarriage shield on my minivan got bent out of shape after a few clips broke off.
