Worst experience - DO NOT RENT HERE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE
I reserved and paid for two 5 passenger jeeps several weeks in advance using their online system. Their system immediately sent me two emails with confirmations. So far so good, but then I realized I messed up the date and called them and asked for a correction, which seemed OK because I got two more confirmation emails with the correct date. Again, so far so good.
Fast forward to the day we arrive to pick up the two 5 passenger jeeps. I bring along four family members who would be alternate drivers. Had to provide proof of insurance on my end, plus proof of insurance for each of the alternate drivers, copies of all drivers licenses, and lots of paperwork and signatures. Still so far so good, but alternate drivers are now worried about possible insurance claims.
The group moves outside to the first 5 passenger Jeep where the young man explained its operation and several rules about beach driving. Still so far so good.
Then we move to the second Jeep and it is a 4 passenger and not a 5 passenger. So I point out I reserved two 5 passenger. All went to hell in a hand basket after that.
I headed back into the office, and the young man headed into the service bay area where he stayed for awhile. The young lady in the office reviewed her computer and said I actually reserved only one vehicle, not two. That despite I paid for two. Meanwhile two customers came and were waiting for us to finish up. But we could not resolve the reservation issue, so the young man came back in and said if I could prove the two reservations, he could "work things out". While we were trying to "work things out" the young lady took care of the two customers, and guess which jeeps they drove out with? Yep, the two they were giving to us half hour before.
Remember, the young lady told me I reserved only one jeep, so when I said I would take the one at this point, she informed me that reservation was cancelled, and I have nothing, and they have nothing. When I pointed out I paid for two and can prove with AMEX, she said no, only one. So she immediately printed out a refund for one reservation. A few minutes later she bolted out the door and left in her car.
Meanwhile, we're still talking to the young man who could "work things out". He repeatedly told us he was only there for two months, or six weeks. When he mentioned only the owner could do anything, he claimed he did not know his name or how to contact him. Same for the manager. I asked who he would call if the building were burning down. He said he did not know. I asked who he would call if he didn't get his paycheck. He said he did not know. I asked him if he know "Jasmine", the name of the person who confirmed the two reservations, he said he did not know her either. He only worked there for six weeks. So his solution was to walk away.
So, here we were. Watched two Jeeps given to other customers, drive out. And we have zero jeeps, standing in the lot of a business with unknown manager and unknown owner.
So, don't bother with these folks. They've only been there for weeks, and really don't know what the hell they're doing. And don't give a sh!t either.
This morning I contacted AMEX to make sure I receive the full refund for the two reservations. They assured me that AMEX will do a good job taking care of this issue.
Again, stay away from OUTER BANKS JEEP RENTAL. DO NOT BOTHER. And just as a last comment, the two jeeps that were originally going to give us actually looked well worn out. Not at all the quality you might expect for the price they charge. read more
