We ordered beach chairs, an umbrella, and a cooler. We were shocked by the horrible condition of the chairs and umbrella. The chairs were covered in sand and very heavy! They were like something out of the 1950s! LOL. The umbrella had several broken prongs. Even with the sand anchor, it flew down the beach. Rent somewhere else. read more

Delivery was spot on, not so much for pickup- signed up for early pick up so I didn't leave the kayaks behind when I left the house,was told they would be picked up after 5 pm, next morning of check out they where still sitting there. Not happy ! read more

I talked to one of the workers about where to put a kayak in and she could give me several places. They deliver and pick up. Very reasonably priced, too. I've been coming down to the Outer Banks for years and have regularly rented through Ocean Atlantic Rentals. It really helps to not have to haul your beach chairs and umbrella down on the drive, but rather you can easily rent them for the week and they'll even deliver to your house. Additionally, we started renting a grill from them which is extremely convenient. The most recent rental went off smoothly just like our other interactions with them. They even dropped everything off on Memorial Day, when a lot of other businesses were closed. The manager, Kris, dropped off our items and even hooked the propane up to the grill for us. Had a great week at Avon that started with OAR having everything we needed when we needed. The manager helped me load our boards and bikes on our truck and gave me some great recommendations on what beach to go to and where to eat. We will use OAR every time we come down here. read more

I used OAR for my wedding last weekend, and they really came through! We had no problems getting our linens on time and picked up. We also rented a high chair for my baby niece all weekend - which we accidentally lost the tray! Luckily OAR realized these things happen, and didn't charge us to replace. We rented a kids bike trailer/chariot for our 3 year old to ride behind our bikes for a few trips to sno cones, ice cream, coffee, etc. When we went to hook the chariot up, one of the tires had a slow leak. This was around 5pm, we called and Shane answered. He was apologetic and even offered to drive a new tire out to us in frisco. We opted to just swap it out the next day and keep the trailer a day longer at no charge. After that, the trailer worked great and we had a great time biking around the islands for a few days! read more

Our family has been vacationing in Avon for over 45 years. We rented tables and chairs from Ocean Atlantic Rentals for a party. This was an easy process from ordering, to delivery,to pick up. We also rented linens and lawn chairs through the Avon office. It is so nice and refreshing to deal with people a smile and a sense of humor. First, we've had very good experience renting bikes from Ocean Atlantic. However, I am most displeased with their umbrella service. The staff that sets up the umbrellas routinely demonstrates a gross disregard of beach etiquette -- every day this week they have set up umbrellas practically on top of other "claimed" spots on the beach. I fully understand that no one owns the beach and people can set up where they choose, but one of the main draws of the OBX is the freedom to spread out a bit and not feel crowded. For whatever reason, laziness or carelessness perhaps, the Ocean Atlantic staff chose to set up their umbrellas within feet of our umbrellas when they had an entire beach to place the camp of our neighbors. We even called to complain after the first day but our complaint had no effect on the umbrella placement. Very disappointing. This is not Europe or NewYork! read more

Very unprofessional... Rented a BBQ for the week which they only provide weekly rates @ $65. They had two bbq's available on a Sunday evening which we tried to get it into our car with no luck. So we opted for the $20 delivery fee which I thought was high since they were located right down the street. The rental place said they would have it delivered by the next morning or afternoon at the latest, since we wanted to BBQ that night. By 6pm we still had no BBQ. I went to the shop and was told the reason they did not deliver first thing in the morning because they did not have any available.... How odd since they had two the night before. Then I was told that the guy would definitely have it delivered by that night . I got it at 7:38 and a $10 credit . Whoop dee doo... To top it off when it was delivered the tank fell off and was laying on the side by the gas hose. The kid was not going to fix it until I tried picking it up myself. read more

When we went to check out this rental company to see if we wanted to rent some bikes, we were surprised at how unprofessional the manager acted towards us. He did not greet us when we went inside and he acted like we were bothering him. Not only did he act like he hated his job, but he also seemed angry to be at a beautiful beach for a living. I had heard great things about this company for years but there is no way that the recommendations were about this particular store. We will be using another OAR when we go to a different beach that isn't filled with managers who think they own the island. read more

Not a great experience by a long shot. The 'owner' was rude and acted like we were bothering him. He didn't have all the bikes we wanted, but said if we took smaller ones, he'd deliver ones that were due that evening in the morning and swap them out. At 2:00 p.m. the next day we still didn't have our bigger bikes. The ones we took needed air in the tires, and he acted like he was annoyed to have to fill them up. They then came and took the bikes and other things we had rented a day before we were leaving (we paid for a full week - 7 days - but were only going to be there five - they came and got them the fourth day). We had to call to get them to bring them back so we could use them our last day there, but it took a while. Then they brought back different bikes, and one had a bent frame, so we had to ride them to the shop to get it replaced. No apologies. Not impressed. Next time Island Cycles gets our business. read more

During my entire childhood until college, my family always rented from Ocean Atlantic Rentals and had great experiences. This past week, I took my family back to Avon for the first time in 15 years. The experience was even better then I remember. Buck and his team were fantastic. We rented everything... chairs, umbrellas, cribs, highchairs, surfboards and baby joggers. The equipment was in great condition and their prompt delivery service makes a rental experience on the beach perfect. On top of that... our rentals fridge broke on Labor day morning and the vacation realty company was closed with no service team staffed that day. After spending hours trying to get an appliance maintenance tech down to Avon from Manteo, I figured I'd call OAR to see if they knew anyone that could help. Turns out, they rent fridges too! They had a delivery truck to our door within an hour and we were able to salvage all our perishables without having to go buy a bunch of coolers and ice. Can't say enough about the experience. BTW... never even heard back from the rental company until the following day, even after leaving multiple messages on their emergency service line. OAR is the way to go. read more

Bad experience with Ocean Atlantic Rentals this year. Promised one beach wheelchair with pivot wheels and delivered less manuverable PVC beach wheelchair -- but charged for more expensive one. PVC wheelchair had a broken brake on it and was not useable. They did not stand by their product and also acted like they were doing me a favor for crediting my account the $50 they over charged me. Would not use Ocean Atlantic Rentals -- Avon again. read more

Have rented from Ocean Atlantic rental in past years but will not rent from them again. On our 3rd visit to the OBX (Corolla NC) we went again to rent a kayak from Ocean Atlantic. Talked to a young man who confirmed they had 3 day rentals and we decided to come back the next morning for a Kayak. When we returned the next day the young lady there refused to rent for 3 days. Now get this, there had been red flags on the beach for the last few days (Aug. 27, 2014). They had a yard full of kayaks because no one was renting (we were going to use it sound side for some fishing). The lady would not honour the information we were given just the evening before, was abrubt and unprofessional. She was not actually rude, just not friendly or interested in being helpful. We left and went down to the street to Kitty Hawk Kites in Monteray Plaza and got a 3 day rental which, because it included the seat backs - an add on at Ocean Atlantic, was actually cheaper than ocean Atlantic *if* they had honoured the 3-day rental info we had been given. Kitty Hawk Kites is also right by the Food Lion so it's a location we're heading to anyway. The gentleman there was friendly, helpful and even gave tips on what to fish for and methods and baits to use. read more
