Just enough to appeal to most everyone. I had the taco salad and hubs had the chicken salad sandwich. Our lunch tab included the 2 entrees, a bowl of soup, 2 ice creams and ice teas and was $60. which was not bad at all. the restaurant is in the club house of the White Hawk golf course. it's a real hidden treasure.

My main hesitation is the price point. It feels pretty pricey for what is essentially bar and grill food. Our bill came out to over $100 for just one appetizer, two beers, one kids' meal, and two sandwiches. For that price, I'm not entirely sure it's worth it for me to come back for a full dinner a third time. Not just a tiny strand either -- I found multiple hairs in my food. I've attached a picture because I couldn't believe what I was looking at. At that point, I was completely disgusted and had absolutely no desire to keep eating. When you go out to eat, especially somewhere that isn't exactly cheap, the LAST thing you expect is to find someone's hair in your food. Having it happen twice is beyond unacceptable. It completely ruined the meal and honestly made me question the cleanliness of the entire kitchen. The drinks were okay, the service was okay, but nothing about the experience was what I would consider top-notch. The prices were way too high for what we received, and there are plenty of other places where you can get better food, better prices, and much better overall service. And to be clear, this is not directed at the bartender or waitress personally. They were doing their jobs, and I have no disrespect toward them. My issue is with the overall experience, the food, the quality control, and the fact that I paid good money for a meal that I ultimately couldn't stomach because I was so disgusted. Finding hair in your food is gross enough once. Finding it again after the food was corrected is absolutely disgusting and something a restaurant should never let happen. Unfortunately, this was a huge disappointment, and I definitely won't be rushing back. There are better options out there that are cleaner, more reasonably priced, and provide a much better dining experience.

Maybe it was catering to local tastes, but the sheer volume and the fact that it was so heavy compared to other Asian dressings I've had both made the salad inedible. Finally, I got a Singapore Noodles entree. Massive portion and a medley of meat in the dish, but some of the meat chunks looked and tasted very bland, almost like mystery meat. And the noodles were okay, but quite a bit oily from the pan fry. Overall a decent experience, not like you have a wealth of options in this area. I'd say stick to Americanized staples if you aren't feeling adventurous.

we gave the Light house a third chance and we were glad we did the service was very good and the hostess and front end staff were wonderful, no wait for our table at 5:30 on Fathers day great job! Food was great, only one item could better, when you make a crock of baked French onion soup you cover the entire to of the soup with cheese, that is why most people order it for the crouton and the cheese. other than that it was great, we ended the night on the lake watching the sunset and walking on the pier. a airplane was taking off and landing on the lake giving us all a show but the sunset was the real attraction. Fix the soups and pay a little more attention to cleaning the table as the guest eat and I will give you 5 stars plus. I order the stuffed shrimp with crab special and it was terrific. we ordered three appetizers, onion scoops, calamari and the flat bread pizza and they were also great. the new full service outdoor dining with the fireplace built in the tables looks great, we are going to try that next time. Thanks Lighthouse great job My daughter and her husband went to the lighthouse Friday 8/14/09 made reservations for 8:30. Got to the restaurant at 8:10 and checked in. noticed that the host was engaged in a slight argument about not seating a group, they were complaining because their name was crossed off the list and were never called to be seated. My daughter and her husband ordered drinks and went outside to wait, and wait, and wait. After 40 minutes my son-in-law inquired and was told that it would be "a few minutes." after another 35 minutes he inquired again and was told that he and his name was crossed off the list and he was already seated...WHAT....no...........no....! Finally were seated after over an hour wait and given a free appetizer. I called the restaurant for my kids because I recommended the place. I talked to a very professional young lady who informed me that they were aware of the problems and it had happened a couple of times that night. they said a manger would call on Saturday 8/15/09.....no call! I called back today and spoke to the same very professional girl who was shocked that the general manager did not call my daughter. She said that he will call today and she will call me back to tell me what he said and why he did not call. The girl that I spoke to on the phone twice is a true restaurant professional and has a great personality. I will update this review after the phone call... Oh by the way, my kids told me the food was good, not great just good........ If the manager calls we will try again with a larger group for my birthday....watch for an update. HERE IS THE UPDATE! 8/23/09-------went for my birthday, big mistake, once again the staff is very rude........they got their noses in the air because they have the business for now.......not for long. Manager called my daughter and told her they would comp. the appetizers if we came back for my birthday, so she made reservations for 9 people for today, 8/23. She was told in no uncertain terns that 3:00 was the only time that they take groups, (ours was 9) they will not take any large group after that. wait till business dies off on the winter they will beg to have groups any time. we arrived and were seated promptly, we were seated at two tables next to each other ( less than 12 inches away) one side was a long booth the other side was chairs. I immediately slid the tables together to have one long table and so we can converse, (it is very loud in there). then the waiter came to the table and said "you are not allowed to put the tables together, it is a danger to our staff and it makes it hard to service the table, as he was telling us that he started pulling the table apart. I said you got to be kidding me, whose rule is that? he sent a manager over to see me and see explained sarcastically that we violated a Lighthouse rule and the tables must stay apart, wow I was so embarrassed after she informed me of the violation. That alone will stop me from ever eating again at the Lighthouse. but the food is also a problem....French onion soup that is terrible, a floating piece of old bread with cheese on top...it did not even resemble Baked French onion soup, salads with old yellow lettuce and warm dressing mixed into the salad before it comes to the table....we thought it was someones garbage that they did not eat. appetizers were a joke, the onion scoops were oil soaked and contained the outer peels and the calamari was rubber and loaded with oil. Steaks were good, but not done to the correct ordered temps, pork chop was good but not worth the attitude of the staff............I would not recommend the Lighthouse to anyone, I hope a better place opens that knows how to treat customers read more

Quick review: Great food, excellent service. Detailed review: I had never been to Lighthouse, but it was recommended to me by some locals to host a surprise anniversary party. I took their word and started setting up the party for 60 guests with Candice at Lighthouse. She was extremely helpful (and patient) especially with someone like me who doesn't set up these functions too often. I made numerous changes over the 2-3 weeks before the party date and she handled all my requests quickly and considerately. She responds faster to email than anyone I can recall. I got to one of the 2nd floor reception rooms just before the party began, and the layout and decor were just perfect - no customizing required. The view of the lake area was very nice, and that was in January. I hear it is gorgeous in Summer. Candice was not working the day of our party, but Kevin was there to manage the private parties. Honestly, I couldn't imagine a more accommodating host than Kevin and the rest of the crew that day. I botched some technical details regarding the slide show for the room (HDTV and projector) and Kevin put in the extra time to help me get our slide show on screen anyway. There was a wireless microphone provided for speeches as well, and we had none of the usual issues with unfamiliar sound systems. The mic worked well and the rest of the audio was set up just right - everyone could hear perfectly. We had some other unforeseen issues as well, but Kevin and the other staff handled everything calmly, quickly and with class (unfortunately I didn't get anyone else's name). I received a number of compliments from guests just about the service. Very impressive! And most importantly, the honorees really enjoyed themselves. We opted to give our guests 3 choices for a plated luncheon, and again, I got quite a few compliments from the guests. I personally had the chicken piccata which was delicious. As per Candice's suggestion, we went with an open bar option instead of the per-person package. Since this was an afternoon affair, she correctly advised that most folks either wouldn't be drinking or would have a small number of drinks. While money was not our top priority, it sure was nice to save as much as we did on drinks, and come in under budget. The draught beer selection seemed to be limited to a couple standards, but I don't know what bottles were available in the bar downstairs. I didn't hear any negative comments from guests about the selection though. The building itself has lots of wood and an overall nautical theme which is just clever enough without being kitschy. I can't comment about the restaurant food and service as we were in the upstairs private rooms, but if our experience was at all indicative of the regular restaurant service then I imagine dining at the Lighthouse restaurant must be quite enjoyable. As I mentioned, our final bill was quite reasonable even with the requisite 20% service charge, which they certainly earned plus an extra tip. Since I live on the north side of Chicago, I don't know when the next time I will be Cedar Lake, but if I have the opportunity I will certainly return to the Lighthouse Restaurant for dinner. read more

A mostly seafood with steaks restaurant on the southeast shore of Cedar Lake in Lake County Indiana. White tablecloths with a Ralph Lauren-like nautical decor. There is a spacious bar area for you to wait for your table, which we did, for 10 minutes on a Saturday night with 7:00 reservations. You need reservations here. We had crab cakes for an appetizer, which were the best I've had outside the state of Maryland. I had the Lake Perch. My wife had fresh Chilean Sea Bass. Our offspring had the small Filet Mignon 8 oz. & Jumbo Fried Shrimp, respectively. All seafood was fresh in taste & consistency, and my boy ruined his steak with ketchup, but ate it all fast. The service was quick. They were knowledge able and helpful with the kids, letting them walk out on the pier while me & my love ate our salads. During our stay, they did not rush us along even though it was very busy. The cost was reasonable at $160 for a family of 4. We don't really drink much of the alcoholic beverages, where restaurants make their killing. So, anyway, dress nicely but no jacket required. If you want a table on the glass you may have to wait awhile. There's no outdoor dining because of the problems that adverse weather would cause. We dine here a few times a year, it is an outstanding seafood restaurant. Highly recommend. read more

I stopped by The Lighthouse Restaurant in Cedar Lake, Indiana, and honestly, this place delivered exactly what I was hoping for and more. The atmosphere is beautiful -- right on the water, relaxed but still classy enough that you feel like you're somewhere special. The service was solid from the moment we walked in. Everyone was friendly, fast, and actually paid attention, which is rare these days. Now the food... that steak was on point. Cooked perfectly, seasoned just right, juicy, tender -- everything you want when you're paying for a good dinner. You can tell they know what they're doing in the kitchen. The sides, the presentation, the whole plate just came together clean. It's the type of place you bring your family, your girl, or even business clients and feel confident they're going to enjoy it. The view over the lake makes the entire experience even better -- especially if you go around sunset. It adds a whole vibe that makes the night feel a little more special. Overall, I highly recommend The Lighthouse Restaurant. Great food, great location, great atmosphere. Definitely one of Cedar Lake's gems, and I'll be back for sure. read more

This rating is not directed towards the food or quality of this restaurant. It is more so directed towards the employees and management of the kitchen. The employees here are not respected and are very much unappreciated. I wouldnt reccomend anyone to work in the back of the house of this facility. No matter how much work and dedication you put into this company you will not be granted the pay you truly deserve. The head chef Ken Mcrae is seldomly present, he doesn't take the time to build up and encourage his staff; when he is there it is only to criticize and point out flaws in your work. Recently one of the sous chefs had resigned and her position became open and instead of giving this title to someone who is deserving and qualified for it Ken deemed it wise to hire in Trey Matson for this position whom which mind you is a former employee who was fired years prior for sexual harassment. The lighthouse kitchen staff deserves better treatment and more recognition and last but not least a head chef that values the cooks who help make this steakhouse the 5 star restaurant it is. read more

I highly recommend this restaurant if you appreciate a delicious meal and friendly service in a unique setting. The views of the lake at sunset were just beautiful. The hostesses upon arrival were friendly, Shane the GM was accommodating and made himself visible and available throughout our dinner. Nina was our server and she was not only friendly, but seemed to genuinely care about our experience. We have dined here before but tried some different dishes this time. The appetizer crab dip was delicious as were our main meals of perch and steak medallions. The vegetables and sides had great flavors and everything was cooked to perfection which is appreciated on a busy Friday night. Although it was hard to narrow down a dessert, the warm cookie with Fair Oaks Farm ice cream was wonderful. We can't wait to go back! read more

I had the pleasure of eating dinner at Lighthouse Restaurant last night. It was a great experience for several reasons. To begin, the service was great. Our server was friendly and always checking on us. The general manager also had a presence on the dining floor, he introduced himself and made sure our experience was exceptional. In addition to the service, the quality of the food was outstanding. The appetizers were outstanding, especially the crab cakes. My steak was delicious and prepared properly. The atmosphere was great. It's a busy restaurant but it didn't have that chaotic feeling. The view of the lake was gorgeous. The real bonus about Lighthouse is that it is a high quality restaurant located in Cedar Lake. I will definitely eat at Lighthouse again and I would recommend it to anyone. read more

i visited the lighthouse yesterday to celebrate my partner and i's anniversary and it was just fantastic. great customer service from the start, everyone was extremely friendly and you were spoken to with respect. we shared the calamari which was pleasant, following with the half rack of ribs and a sirloin. everything was cooked to perfection. i do recommend getting the Cesar salad as it was so divine. the french fries were amazing and my husband loved the french onion soup. our drinks never went empty and we were checked on numerous times. the ambiance of the restaurant was very cozy with perfect lighting and a great view. we even had a kind hostess take pictures for us. i don't normally write reviews but i had such a good experience i had to share ! read more

Wow! Great views...great atmosphere. Reservations were easy...but definitely need to call ahead on Saturdays. Wish you could reserve a table "with a view"...but that apparently is not an option when you put in reservations. Would suggest you honor that request if its asked for...and be able to honor "first available" for all others. Really not a bad seat in the place...but the views are beautiful. The outside tables are awesome...as we were just there this past weekend. And the Bar that is made out of the vintage boat is impressive! Food is great, Service is good. I've been to this place three or four times. I recommend the Sea Bass...delicious! the service was Ok but not great, I saw a few of the bus boys goofing off and sitting at a table while they cleaned the plates off...just looked like they were being lazy when people were waiting on that table. The food is really good but a little expensive and the wait time to get seated was kinda long. definitely recommend getting reservations ...there is a few things not great about this place but the location and food make up for the bad things....I will return and do recommend eating here to friends read more

My son and his family took me here for my birthday. I had never been here before but always heard great things. I ordered the Chicken St. Jacques, and my family ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, Salmon, Chicken Alfredo, and two of the kid's dishes. We also ordered appetizers (Spinach and Artichoke Dip and Brochette). We sampled each other's dishes and everything was delicious. I found the wait staff to be friendly and attentive. I came to the lighthouse with my great aunt who is 87 and she ordered the filet and I ordered the lobster. Each meal was fantastic but what the best part of the meal was our server Donnell. He was so knowledgeable about the menu and was very polite. Due to the fact that my aunt is older she's a little slow and Donnell was very patient with her to make her feel comfortable and at ease. We had such a wonderful 33rd wedding anniversary dinner. We were seated by a window over looking the lake. A beautiful view.The food and the drinks were incredible. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive to all our needs. The view of the lake, from our table, was breathtaking. Lighthouse used to be my favorite restaurant. ..I would go at least once a month with friends and always had family parties there. The last few times I have been there. ..the food had been mediocre at best. The lobster bisque was awful. ..we sent it back! The service was terrible. ...the appetizers. ..salad...and entrée arrived together ..and the server was rude when we asked her to hold them. You still cannot beat the atmosphere outside in the summer. ...but I'm looking for a new place to go :( read more

Karen IS The Lighthouse. Her LIGHT and presence can not be matched. It is no wonder she has been there 16 years. One feels completely at home the minute she takes the lead. Recently moved to Cedar Lake Indiana, so I search restaurants near me and I found this one when here for a few cocktails and a steak dinner me and my husband for our anniversary. The martini was also underwhelming--it tasted mostly like juice, with little to no noticeable alcohol. As for the food, the starters were definitely the highlight. The French onion soup was actually very good. However, the main courses didn't live up to expectations. I ordered the steak medium rare, but it came out closer to medium well--overcooked and under-seasoned. The chicken Vesuvio was also disappointing; the sauce tasted like it came from a jar, and neither it nor the rice stood out in any meaningful way. On a positive note, the ambiance was very nice. The lighting created a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, while the setting and service were enjoyable, the food and drinks didn't justify a return visit.

One waitress came out and stated that we could order onions and mushrooms on our steak, but that would be an extra charge, if the bride state it was okay. I went to the bride, and they told her that it would be an extra $10.00, I gave her $15.00. So, at that point, they came out and took our orders and among the 4 of us we ordered a steak medium well with just a little charred on it. Well, I had to wait because the waitress came out and stated that they had charred it too much and they had to put me another one in. Now it is half an hour later and everybody in the place is complaining because now they are coming back stating that you can't order the onions or mushrooms that they have already given to the bride. Don't nobody want to go back and say give it back 1 /2 hour later, so we let her keep it. My steak came out burnt. Also, the waiter came around with water and one of the people at my table had gone out to the bar and purchased her a drink and he poured water in her glass that already had her drink that she paid for, and he told her that he would replace it. Then the manager whom I sent a picture of to the store came back and said she would get another drink, well she went back to the bar and purchased another and was waiting for the one that they were supposed to bring to her. So, I asked the manager if they could replace my steak and she threw her hands up in the air and stated that it is what you ordered and walked away. My daughter-in-law was so upset her husband had to make her be quiet because she was so mad at the lady who talked to me like that, and she travel all over the world and I have never seen her get upset like that. Everybody in the room complained about the services, we asked whether we could go out and order it from outside and still pay her and they kept telling us that we couldn't. I was so angry and I did not eat at all, and I only eat once a day and I had the worst service that I have ever had anywhere and we traveled all over the world. First, that Manager owes me an apology and I would like to meet with you concerning this, because it was so unprofessional, and maybe it was because of our race, I do not know, but at this point we all are saying I will never go back to Theo's. I feel that even if it costs extra, because not everybody eats steaks with onions or mushrooms on it, we still paid her $60.00 for their meal, that should have been able to order anything else. My god daughter that got married her son does not eat meat and she was able to just get him some noodles. I feel that even if we paid the $60.00 for the meal that we should still had been able to order something else, and not only that one waitress should not be able to tell you that you can order onions or mushroom on your steak and then the other one come back and say no. We did not care about the extra charge, and I feel we should have been able to order appetizers if we wanted them. A lot of us had not eaten all day, getting off the plane and going to the wedding and straight to your place and this is the service we received. I am not just complaining just about myself, but for my family, your staff need training on what they can or cannot do before entering that room and one person says one thing and the other one is saying something else. I have never been to any place where the manager did not try to rectify the situation or just remove that price off the bill. I sent a you the picture of the manager that was in charge I guess, but she was the one that threw her hands up in the air and said that is what you ordered. I order my steak chard everywhere and it has never been burnt, and they want me to except it, and I did not eat one thing on the plate. I just paid for something that I could not eat. Your place was very beautiful and that was my first time there, but that was a horrible experience, but when you went out of the room the bartenders and all the other people were so nice. I do not feel that the people that were working back there in the room can handle 50 people and one time ordering, but they should have been a little more accommodating. I know she had to pay $3,000.00 for just the people and a tip, but I don't feel that she got what she paid for. I tried to send this letter to the store,so that someone would contact me and they never did till this day.

A few minutes later, the manager on duty brought the same burger back upstairs, slammed it down, and asked with an attitude, "What is the problem?" I explained that it was undercooked and that I had ordered medium well. She then asked, "What do you want me to do with this?" while just standing there staring at me. After acting irritated, she asked if I wanted a new burger or wanted "this one" recooked. The idea of them recooking a burger I had already cut into and handled felt completely unsanitary. Her attitude throughout the interaction was awful. I declined a replacement, and she huffed that she'd remove it from the bill. Unfortunately, it got even worse. Just minutes later, an earwig crawled out of my friend's salad. We were horrified. We took a picture, caught the bug, and asked another server to get the manager. When she returned, she walked up with her hand on her hip and said, "Now what?" We handed her the napkin with the bug, and instead of apologizing, she opened it right there on the table, let the bug crawl out, scoffed at us, and said, "Fine, I'll take that off the bill too." At that point, my friend was covering her mouth in disgust after realizing she had been eating a salad with a bug in it. Rather than showing concern or professionalism, the manager snapped, "What do you want?! I didn't put the bug in the salad." I have never experienced such unsanitary conditions combined with such shockingly hostile customer service. Mistakes can happen, but the manager's behavior was beyond unacceptable. We left disgusted and will absolutely never return.

The waitor really negatively impacted my experience and their rules for alcoholic beverages are horrid. I will try my hardest to never go there again. Food was super tasty though.
