We came here for a friend's birthday. I wasn't too happy about the drive from Chicago to Cedar Lake Indiana. I got over it once I saw the lakefront view of this place. The balcony had an absolute amazing view of the lake. There was a live band playing good music. Outside patio with a build in fireplace. A perfect place for a date night or to enjoy with friends. I was impressed with everything about this place. The food was delicious. The drinks were Meh we all returned our cocktail drinks for sodas. Our server was pleasant and attentive to our request. The Manager even walked around and greeted each table. Top notch service. I highly recommended this place to Everyone. Pricey but worth it. read more

Tonight was our third visit to The Lighthouse. We live 2 hours away, so we combine our visits with attending concerts in the park. This restaurant is SO worth a visit! The setting on Cedar Lake is lovely. There is both indoor and outdoor seating (we opted for indoor). The staff is excellent, and the food is worth the trip! Since we are Seniors, we opted for appetizers and soup. Hubby had the lobster bisque and loved it. His shrimp cocktail featured enormous shrimp. I had smoked salmon crostini (hubby ate 2), and the dish was simply perfect. We also split a tuna tartare..and loved it. A glass of pinot noir completed the perfect dinner. We will be back! Wow, so glad new management is stepping in to take over because this place is a shit show. The location is absolutely beautiful but that's the only positive thing I can say. Way back when it first opened they had the best food in the area, but sadly it has declined...drastically. Went on a Sunday evening after the dinner rush and still waited to be seated. Once seated, waited over 10 minutes before our server came by. We placed our order right away and then waited another 10 for a water and iced tea. The tomahawk steak came out first, followed by our appetizer, side dishes then our plates...had to ask for steak knives. The steak was rare when it should have been medium-well and was tough, even for being rare...we've had much better at home. The garlic mashed potatoes were so salty and the sauteed spinach dish was inedible because of being overseasoned. I don't know if the people actually making the food bother to taste anything or their tastebuds are just dead. To be fair, the food has been too salty/overseasoned the last 3 times we've been here...I guess 3 strikes. We will give it another go once the new owners clean up this mess and I can only hope they fix it. P.S. the "live" entertainment was a guy pretending to play guitar and mumbling through songs, hacking them to pieces, lol. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant that always seems to fall short on service and presentation. I don't mind paying extra for delicious food and great service, but I always feel disappointed after eating here. Perhaps I keep wishing things will turn around, but I'm not seeing any changes. On my last visit, the medium-rare fillet was delivered cold and well-done. My sides were given to another table, and there was a full 20 minute gap until everyone at the table had their meal. We've come here several times, mainly for special occasions, but haven't been here in over five years. It was our 18th anniversary and we decided to stop in for old time's sake. Even though we made a reservation and arrived on time, we still had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated which seemed silly considering a.) We made a reservation and b.) The place wasn't busy at all. Anyway, we were seated at a table close to the lake which was nice. The server promptly took care of us and we placed our order. Wife ordered a filet and I ordered nut crusted Walleye. We started out with crab cakes and couple of local beers. Crab cakes were decent but not as good as we remembered. Seems like the sauce has changed. After we finished the app, we waited a good 30+ minutes for our entrees. The server noticed our frustration and said he would check on our order. He came back said a lot of words that didn't amount to much of an explanation. Finally, after another 10 minutes the food came out. Wife was not impressed by her $50 filet and my walleye could have been a lot warmer. The mashed potatoes were also lukewarm and tasted like instant mashed potatoes. I ordered spinach mushrooms as a side and it looked like it came straight from a can. Presentation for both entrees was poor. The mashed potatoes were all over the plate like someone just slopped it down. I would expect this from Outback Steakhouse or Red Lobster, but this was the crown jewel of Cedar Lake. Overall the food was just okay. Suffice it to say, we were not impressed considering the bill was close to $200. I summation, we will probably never be back. Excellent!! I've been here before, and my previous visits were the same. We thought about going here late, on the 3rd of July, (2019) when fireworks were planned. Bad planning on my part. Although it was busy, we got late seating at a great table. Our server moved us to a table (for 6) by the window so we could see the fireworks. We started with Calamari and Bruchetta Burrata appetizers... really delicious. I had a wedge salad (great) and Two Thick Cut Pork Chops with applesauce for entree. Wow!! Perfectly done. A crisp sear char on the outside, juicy on the inside. Great flavor and excellent cut. Others in the party went with Lobster and Filet Mignon combo which was also excellent.. Ambiance was nice and the restaurant was clean and cozy. This was our first time here and we were celebrating our anniversary. Service with Josh was on point and he was very pleasant. Our drinks, house and cesar salad, garlic mashed potatoes , and the warm bread were delicious. Our steaks were cooked to our liking, but the 8 oz filet was tender compared to the two 4oz filets. My only complaint was I like my steak with a charred texture. We will definitely go back to try a pasta dish or sandwich. read more

Haven't been in a while thought Sunday evening should be a little less quiet. Let's check it out. Made reservations wasn't very crowded. Had a brief reasonable wait time before being seated. Our waitress as I forget her name very attentive. Knew a great deal about what she was talking about and no complaints whatsoever was top-notch. Ordered shrimp cocktail and crabcakes for appetizers. Both well worth getting large shrimp with fantastic cocktail sauce with ample horseradish in it,crabcakes are quite small, but very tasty and light. Both ordered soups,had the lobster bisque and the tomato basil which she said was very good, lobster bisque was decent not a whole lot of lobster in it, but I'd order it again. Our entrées,got a fillet with baked potato and decided on adding or upgrading to the au gratin potatoes to try them out and also the lake perch, figuring if it wasn't enough could order an additional side of something. Filet was decent but didn't appear to be size ordered looked smaller and it was average at best but the baked potato was enormous and plenty there if you like them. As for the au gratin potatoes I wouldn't order them again. Hard to describe, they're edible but very Greasy and creamy would prefer them to be a much thicker consistency and seem to be overpowered by sour cream? As for the lake perch, never again! I don't know how you can ruin something so decent & delicate but they managed. The fish was actually good. The problem was they were extremely over battered and deep-fried and had the taste of being done in old grease like you would get at a fish fry or somewhere that does all you can eat lake perch, and over batters it so you get filled up on the batter and can't taste the fish! Even the presentation they looked like fish sticks! Extremely disappointing and highly recommend never to order this if you are a fan of Lake perch,it is a complete waste and really bad! I try to give this place so many chances but it once was a good and top-notch place to eat many years ago, but has steadily declined to the point where It's not worth anything let alone the waste of money. I still don't understand how people think this is one of the best restaurants around because there are more that are way better than this for that kind of money or even less money for that matter. Hell, Prime Steakhouse in Crown Point blows this place in the weeds! And I could name a lot of others that are way better. It's a real shame,an extremely disappointing place anymore. I hope that the new owner resurrected it to its former glory from decades ago. Princess Cafe in Beecher,IL makes this place comparable to Applebee's. Sad. read more

First let me start off by saying that I strongly recommend visiting this establishment. I imagine the view of the lake during summer or fall would be amazing. I had booked on-line with Open Table but the reservation never made it to the restaurant. However, they got us in right away at 5PM on a Saturday night. If we came an hour later we would have been out of luck. Our waitress was named Lauren who did a fantastic job giving us our drinks and getting our order. First up was complimentary bread and butter. A small French roll sliced and warm to the touch. It was good but not the best we've had at a couple of other places. My wife and I were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary so we went all out. We both ordered soup. For her, the lobster bisque with a couple of chunks of lobster included. I did say chunks. Most Ive ever seen. She liked it a lot. I ordered the French Onion soup. It was excellent. Great flavor in the broth and very cheesy. We both had the small Wedge Salad. There are chunks of bacon in it that look like croutons. But when you bite into it, you're surprised that there isn't any crunch but rather a delightful bacon flavor bomb. My wife ordered the lobster and I the Steak and Lobster, aka, the Surf and Turf. My wife and I split a side of scalloped potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The sides are dead on. Great flavor overall. You'll find those bacon bombs in with the Brussels Sprouts as well. The steak was good but not the best I've had. I ordered it Med Rare and it was closer to medium. The lobster was okay but not great. We've had sweeter lobster. They provided us a complimentary chocolate mousse. It also was tasty and easy to eat even though we were both stuffed and had to bring some food home. My wife ordered a side crab cake. It was very good. I would like to give it a 5 but the lobster and steak took it down a smudge just because I've had better tasting steak and lobster at that price. read more

We went to the Lighthouse restaurant for my mom's birthday. Out of the six people that were there, we didn't have one item that wasn't delicious! From the special of Steak Diane to Macadamia Crusted Walleye and the Chilean Sea Bass....it was all cooked perfectly... They even were able to accommodate my sister's gluten-free request...all thanks to our incredible server, Michelle. She remembered all of our orders and helpful and friendly. Unfortunately they ran out of the dessert on special - caramel apple bread pudding, but we survived by sharing cheesecake, banana creme pie, and warm butter pie. The only thing we thought was weird was that the banana pie tasted a little artificial. We agreed that the warm butter pie was the the best choice! read more

The Lighthouse is an amazing experience, not just flavor or atmospherical, but everything from the decoration to service and flavor is beyond excellent. I've been able to experience this restaurants wonders more times can I can recall. Everything is always on point, and the management is extremely friendly and watchful to make sure they deliver the best meal they possibly can. Have a drink at the bar made from a boat, have a relaxing meal outside by the lake, or dine with the entire family inside. My personal favorite is the strip steak covered with the parmesan crust, severed with garlic mashed potatoes and the wedge salad. I would strongly recommend reservations, within the last few years it's gotten extremely popular especially on friday nights and the weekend. read more

My second time here. Food good, but not exceptional. Steak solid. Sides good, but not great - for example, the mushrooms: little flavor, more steamed than sautéed. Compare anything in this place to somewhere consistently good (e.g., Gibson's) and you'll find it just a step behind. I did have to send my steak back to get a decent char on it (it came out a little grey looking), but they did a good job fixing it and then I was content. So, you may want to specify that when you order. It was a solid dry aged ribeye. Some good wines available by the bottle and half bottle. The manager recommended a bottle that they had run out of ... I was a little disappointed he didn't cut us a deal on something else to make up for the mistake, but he didn't. Still, he knew his wine and was helpful. Dessert was solid. We got carrot cake. But again, not exceptional. The chief virtue of this place is the speedboat-bar and the fact that it's on a lake, which is pretty. It is a bit expensive and, apart from the cuts of meat (e.g., dry aged), it's probably not quite worth it. But, still nice, pleasant, dependable. Attractive. I'd call it an old person steak restaurant done pretty well, in a nice spot. If it's what you want and you're in the area - you'll probably enjoy yourself. I do have a soft spot for it. Between three stars and four stars, I think four stars is appropriate. read more

This place has a great setting on Cedar Lake, directly in the water. Outside, is a well landscaped area with a few tables and a glass gazebo with wonderful lake views. There is a fir pit and some lounge type seating as well. The service is great and the decor is warm and "beachy". Unfortunately our dinner was about average. The lobster bisque had too much cream that seemed to flatten the taste and make it almost too rich to eat. The crab cakes were a bit over processed for me and left them lacking much texture. The scallops were pretty good and cooked well. However, most of the dishes were too laden with butter and/or garlic that overwhelmed the taste. I'll give them another try as they have a pretty good menu. read more

Unfortunately, the Lighthouse is not as great as I remember it being in past visits. I was here the other night with my family and the menu seemed a lot different. I ordered the burger that is on the menu and the quality was poorer than when I ordered a burger here back in December (not a seafood person so my options were limited). I also asked to not have the secret sauce put on and ended up having to send the burger back because it had the sauce on it. The burger was nothing spectacular which was disappointing because the one I had here back in December was wonderful considering this isn't a burger joint by any means. However, the desert was great. At my table, we shared the chocolate cake and the butter pie and both were fantastic. Our server was very accommodating, especially with a super picky elderly woman in our group. Wish I could remember his name. While most everyone at my table enjoyed their meal, I can't say that I personally will be back any time soon. read more

I had my daughters bridal shower at The Lighthouse Restaurant recently. Dana Hernandez, Director of private dining sales planned our event. The day of we came 2 hours before to set up. The staff headed by Renee were spot on with any help needed constantly during the shower. Our brunch was outstanding, tasty and served hot. Mimosas were great! Clean up was a breeze. Waitress crew packed up extra food to bring home. Our view of the lake was the perfect backdrop for pictures. Thanks to all who worked that day, it all was worth it!
