I hired Lighthouse Movers to complete my relocation from San Diego, California to St. Augustine, Florida, and my experience reflects serious negligence, lack of communication, and failure to disclose known damage. Before the move, I provided a full description of my household goods and relied on their professional assurance that the truck size would fit everything. On moving day, the truck was being filled without giving me any opportunity to decide which items should be loaded or left behind. I walked outside and saw them closing the truck while valuable items were still in my garage, forcing me to give property away on Facebook Marketplace and suffer avoidable financial loss. My belongings were stored from approximately December 6th through December 31st. When delivery occurred, the crew began unloading without any warning that my property had been damaged. Boxes were soaking wet, molded, and filled with mold. Clothes had mold all over them, furniture showed clear water damage, and many household items were contaminated and falling apart. The condition was extremely disgusting and demonstrated a lack of reasonable care. When Doug Sheffield arrived to collect the remaining payment, he did not disclose any damage until I confronted him. Only then did he admit he discovered the water damage the day the truck was unloaded into their storage unit, yet he never notified me during the 20 plus days my belongings sat there worsening. He claimed a Penske claim had been filed, but after contacting Penske myself, I learned no claim was submitted. I was left to handle the process alone while dealing with preventable loss, stress, and a clear lack of honesty and accountability. Damages were around $6k all together. read more

Doug Sheffield, the owner was moving my next-door neighbor and drove on my property with his semi truck without permission from me. I came home to find my yard a mess and his truck and crew stuck in my yard .he tore up my yard and broke my cable to my cable TV and internet then left me with a huge mess. I'm a 74 year-old disabled veteran. Thank you very much Doug for your help. I wish there was a way to post pictures of the damage he did to my yard. read more

Scheduled 3 movers for 9am. 2 movers showed up at 9:45am. One was a tiny person who couldn't lift much. The 3rd mover showed up at 10:30 but only stayed for 3 hours. We were charged for their truck which could have been used to bring furniture from the garage at the back of the property, but instead, the truck sat empty and the movers slowly carted stuff about 80 yards. Even after a hefty tip to each mover, we were still overcharged. Charged for 3 movers at 24 hours of labor and a truck, but the truck wasn't used and the movers were there for 15 hours. No answer or return call when calling the office to dispute the charges. read more

Terrible mover, quoted me $2,000 and then increased it to $4,000+. Boxes were put in wrong rooms. Proper number of men (3) were not involved acording to the workers so it took longer to boxup, move, unload and barely nothing was unboxed after delivery. I have been doing unboxing and have found many things broken and damaged. I am connected with 4 big multiunit projects and I have warned them all. Thinking about taking this one to court. read more

Horrible experience- from 50% of my furniture being damaged and it took 4 months to get a whopping $400 for my damages claim. They had me sign a waiver of damages to any pressed wood furniture form when they delivered the furniture know they had damaged several items and when asked it any was damaged they lied and said no. Also inventory of my items was taken at pickup and not verified at delivery. I still have items I am discovering are missing. They also stored my items for 4 months and locked me out without notice to my items for no cause- my payments were not late. Communication is poor and they don't return calls. They make appts and then no show/no call. Do not do business with this company. read more

Lighthouse Movers Awesome! Excellent! Highly Recommend!!!! I contacted Doug several months back shopping prices for a move from Florida to Oregon. He came out, game me an estimate, and the price was very fair for such a large amount of stuff. Once we agreed, he brought out a bunch of boxes and a little tape at no additional charge. Our date wasn't secure but a rough estimate of when our house would be ready, so be penciled in a time. When it got closer to the move, I contacted him gave him an updated best guess. He was very flexible and asked me to keep him informed if anything changed. His crew was scheduled to come out Wednesday, September 23rd, so I called Monday to ensure we were still on his calendar, and of course, we were. We had a very tight timeline and some extenuating circumstances (Sept 23rd pack Florida house, Sept 24th fly to Oregon, Sept 25th close on new house, Sept 27 move stuff from Portland Apt, Sept 29 or 30 receive stuff from Florida to be unloaded into new house). His crew showed up (4 of them with two large trucks). All four introduced themselves. They all worked hard and fast and were very thorough. Later in the day they realized they probably needed a little help (we had over 400 items between furniture, boxes of all sizes, lawn and outdoor equipment, etc.), so they got two additional people to come help (at no additional cost to me other than I chose to tip them). Estimated delivery time was about 6 days, and they called me when they got to Oregon. Unfortunately for me and my family, our Lenders completely bungled our closing (we were supposed to close Friday, September 25th. Neither were they able to close us on the following Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday. So Doug's guys arrive in Oregon Monday night expecting to unload Tuesday Sept 29th, but I have no house to let them unload into. I call Doug and explain to him our situation, and I ask him if it is possible for his guys to stick around for an additional day and that I will pick up the additional charges (which included needing to change their flights back to Florida). He and his crew graciously agreed!!!! Since out house was still not closed on, I had to scramble to get three 15x10 storage units, and Wednesday, Sept 30th, they unloaded everything into storage for me (now my big headache since I have to pay an Oregon mover to move me from storage to my house when it finally closes). Two additional local guys show up, are just as polite as the Florida crew, and they get all my stuff loaded (like Tetris) into the three units. Doug and his entire crew, including the extended crew he hired, were all AMAZING! Polite, clean, thorough, and efficient. I highly recommend them to EVERYONE! Believe the negative reviews. Everything arrived damaged and missing after I paid $9000 (!!!) to move only three hours from Saint Augustine to Vero Beach. I made the mistake of number 1, hiring this company as a last minute resort, and number 2, letting the movers leave the furniture packed in the garage without taking inventory or inspection. I foolishly trusted this sham company. My piano is completely damaged and unusable. The glass on my dining table is missing. I've been waiting over two months for an outdoor table that they mysteriously "forgot" to pack. I have to wait until it's convenient for them to deliver it?? All communication ceased after I foolishly accepted $180 for my claim. Now the BBB and other regulatory agencies are involve. Moving is stressful. If you have anything valuable to move, do not use these people. They stole from me, a lot, and damaged a lot, some of which had to be on purpose. They used no inventory system, allowing theft at will. Boxes never made it, and what wasn't stolen was delivered damaged. The police informed me they took my loaded moving trucks to a movers home, and took what they wanted. The owner actually brought back a wardrobe box full of my shoes and purses, along with an empty bag from the closet they packed that was full of silver dollars and other valuable coins they stole. He seemed sick about it and promised to make it right, but then ignored us. Read all of the bad reviews here and on Google, they all involve boxes not making it(some with coins in them), damaged things, things being taken to the truck cab(theft), and being ignored by the owner. I paid $4400 for my move that included $600 for insurance of my things valued by Doug at $75,000 with a $500 deductible. The Insurance Commissioner of Florida stated they do NOT have Liability Insurance, and they think he just pocketed our money. See the pictures below of the movers and what they do in his trucks. Less than one star - cannot recommend. Doug, the owner, discouraged taking additional insurance, declared he hadn't had a damage claim in four years. Inquired why the packing estimate from other two movers was half, Doug assured his packers didn't 'fluff' boxes to increase the numbers like other mover usually did. The pickup and delivery were binding quotes. Signed the contract - then the problems began. The actual packing cost was double his estimate. Packer went Doug's estimate, didn't have sufficient supplies, more were brought in. Short staffed. Pack out - only one person came, took 10 hours, and didn't complete (everything that he packed/boxed moved well) the rest would be packed by moving crew. Pick up - two rookies had to be instructed on what to do by the experienced guy. Again - did not have sufficient supplies, more were brought in. Improper disassembly, by rookie, damaged entertainment center hutch on pick up. No inventory of items or number/marking the boxes were given. Doug said they had climate controlled storage, but crew could not say where my items were going to be stored. Delivery - two guys. Discovered upon delivery that not all items were properly boxed, wrapped or secured. Damaged - space heater, steam floor cleaner, stainless steel waste bin, wooden pendulum wall clock, wood headboard, bunkie board, entertainment center base and additional damage to hutch. Two guys should have moved the entertainment center but one guy used a dolly (not a padded furniture dolly) to bring it in. Two Tiffany-style lamps and table lamp were missing. Emailed several times but response from Doug was slow and intermittent. From first contact to final settlement took six months. Only intercession from the BBB prompted Doug to settle the standard .60 per pound damage claim - which will not cover to replace missing or replacing damaged items. read more

If I could I would give a negative rating to Lighthouse Movers. We packed all moving boxes ourselves and expected Lighthouse Movers to prepare an inventory list, like our previous mover did, but they did not. We had large paintings that Lighthouse Movers packed and which we paid extra for, while we packed all smaller paintings and framed pictures ourselves. Before our household goods were picked up by Lighthouse Movers we took many photos of the paintings, furniture, TVs, etc, to document the condition prior to the move. Once the movers had loaded the truck and departed we checked all rooms and all closets to make sure that nothing was left behind. At the destination, once everything had been offloaded and after the movers had departed we discovered that the glass on a large, gallery purchased painting, which the movers had packed, now was cracked. We also discovered that two boxes did not make it to the destination. One of these boxes contained expensive vitamins and medical supplements, the other kitchen utensils. We contacted Lighthouse Movers. Their response was that the glass on the painting was cracked when they picked it up, that they put a yellow tape on it and that they notified my wife. THAT IS A FLAGRANT LIE, since my wife never witnessed the packing of it and there was no yellow tape on the glass when the painting with cracked glass was unpacked at the destination. They also said that all boxes were offloaded at destination. So if that was true, then two boxes were stolen, or lost, while in transit. It is remarkable that the mover did not prepare an inventory list to be signed by both parties for the protection of all parties. Prior to the move we purchased insurance with a self risk of $1000. Lighthouse Movers says that insurance will not pay because our loss is less than that. In other words they admit that they have no responsibility or accountability for damage or losses that they cause up to $1000, despite the fact that we paid them over $3000 for insurance, 24 hr storage and to move our household goods only about 250 miles. We contacted the Better Business Bureau. Since Lighthouse Movers denied everything, BBB offered arbitration, which we declined since the outcome would be uncertain and the process stressful. We also filed a complaint to Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Like BBB, they were unable to help us. We are seniors in our mid to late 70's and don't need the stress and aggravation trying to get compensation from an unethical and incompetent outfit like Lighthouse Movers. But our hope is that those who are looking for a moving company learn from our bad experience with Lighthouse Movers AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS DISHONEST AND IRRESPONSIBLE MOVING COMPANY. read more

A nightmare! Everything that comes out of everyone's mouth at this company is a LIE! My so called "binding" estimate went up $3,000 3 days before my move after they knew what my budget was and after it was too late for me to find another company. I paid extra to keep my stuff on the truck for a few days until my new house was ready. Without my knowledge or permission they put my stuff in storage which I found out accidentally. After guaranteeing that their own staff would handle the move at the destination, their driver shows up in a rented local truck that was too small for the stuff, with 2 hourly guys he had picked up locally to help him. They showed up in the afternoon instead of morning, so we didnt finish until late into the night since they were 1 man short and had to make 2 trips to the storage in order to get all the stuff, which showed clear signs of abuse and very poor handling. Furniture was not wrapped or packaged properly. Too many problems to list here. They even lied about flling my insurance claim. Stay away from lighthouse movers. They lie and they will handle your belongings carelessly. The worst I've ever dealt with. read more
