The previous times I ordered at the same time, 435pm, got my avocado toast and what my daughter ordered in about ten minutes, leaving 15 minutes for us to eat before they closed at 5. Today I ordered the avocado toast and island bowl. A girl in a black sweatshirt with green GAP letters took my order. I was taken aback by how cold she was (if you don't want to work in customer service, don't), but thought maybe she was just having a bad day. My friend ordered two island bowls. Two other customers came in and ordered items a few minutes after us. My friend got her island bowls, which surprised us because I ordered before her. A bit later the other customers got their orders as well. About 20 minutes after I'd ordered, now at 4:55pm, I went to ask about my food. The same girl said, and again the way she spoke landed quite rudely, "Yea, and just so you know we close in 5 minutes." I said, "You're kicking me out before the food's arrived when you're the ones who have given me the food in a long time??" She and a blonde girl protested it was because I ordered avocado toast and that takes "awhile." Didn't take that long the previous two visits when I ordered the exact same food items at the exact same spot. I pointed out that I'd ordered two things, and my friend who ordered the same item got hers 20 minutes before I did. They again reiterated that I ordered avocado toast, which they said delayed the entire thing, and that I would need to leave the store upon receiving my food as they would be closed by then. I've worked in quite a lot of customer service businesses, including food. If the customer ordered before we closed, we never rushed the customer out - the customer ordered while we were opened and deserved good service. Apparently, the employees at Backyard Bowls in La Cumbre don't feel that way. If they don't hold those same values, then there should be a cut off time to order certain items. I didn't want my food to go. By the time I got home to eat my food, the bread was soggy. This Backyard Bowls just lost weekly repeat customers. But with the way they talked to me, they clearly don't care.

There's no seating inside and parking might be a bit hard to find, so I'd suggest parking at the Paseo Nuevo Garage. Staff were super welcoming and were more than happy to let you sample the freezes or the juices. They didn't hold back on the amount of freeze they give you as well. I always get their Vanilla Freeze, which is just an "ice cream" version of their Vanilla drink. Tastes yummy and has a nice subtle sweet flavor due to the dates. Has a slight health undertone if you look at their ingredients LOL. Love adding toppings (up to 3) and getting their almond butter drizzle!

Initially we were parked in front of the store to fix something in my car, but the Irish cream cold brew piqued our interest. The Irish cream is very delicious but also sweet. The cold brew coffee they use has more of that citrus/bright notes to it versus Starbucks cocoa notes. But once the cream Cascades down or if you mix it, it's not too sweet and it's pretty well balanced. I wish they used a coffee with some cocoa notes in it, but still a really good coffee.

The cups aren't unique, the beverages themselves are mediocre at best. You are just trapped and they know it. Convenient if you are staying there and want to grab a coffee for the road, but you are better off stopping at Starbucks or another local on the way.
