One of my favorite things to do when travelling is definitely visiting different coffee shops,…read moreespecially local favorites. This store is so cool! Like many parts of Santa Barbara, the buildings are steeped in history and reflect the Spanish heritage of the city. I walked in my dog (they're dog friendly!) and went straight to look for the menu. My dog immediately found the bike pump and the snacks they leave for dogs. Service is super nice! They all seem very jovial and cheerful - making it a really nice local vibe. It was great to see the community in the coffee shop. Sadly, the coffee leaves something to be desired. Their menu is pretty standard - you got your flat whites, cappuccinos, lattes - and nothing special or standout from the menu. That's fine - you can still be a standout coffee shop with a standard menu. I ordered two vanilla lattes - one hot, and the other iced with oat milk. Unfortunately, I think my order was misheard as my iced oat latte was missing the vanilla. - Vanilla Latte: Fine. My partner typically orders this everywhere and he said it was fine, but nothing standout. 3/5 - Iced Oat Latte: Already mentioned it was missing the vanilla I asked for, so I'll discuss the other elements. They use a darker roast - thus, making it more susceptible to a bitter taste. That, and I believe an over-extraction or a longer pull made the coffee quite bitter. They also served it in the same cup as the hot coffee. My main issue with this is that I'm a slower coffee drinker, and thus my cup began disintegrating as time passed. Their cups aren't constructed to uphold iced coffee well. 2/5 It was such a prime location nearby the USPS and is sat in a great historic area. Handlebars has great staff, who clearly enjoy their jobs, and have a great community surrounding it. It's sad that their coffee is subpar. Strongly recommend you order your coffee hot, to drink in-store, or just avoid.

The corn tortilla one was my favorite. They were around $5 each. They had a great assortment of coffee options and tres leches cakes (coconut tres leches and horchata tres leches were some of the flavor options). There was plenty of indoor dining areas. They give you a buzzer to inform you when your order was ready. The items were made fresh to order. The breakfast tacos were delicious. There's parking in an underground garage there but I found street parking across the street. The bad: I wanted fresh orange juice but they were out. The jamaica drink was supposed to be with lemongrass but I didn't taste the lemongrass. The drink was slightly sweeter than I expected but it came with ice so it would've been great if I let the ice melt more. The interesting: This was one of the 2 or 3 places open at 10 am when I came. The other spots in this food hall had workers there but they didn't officially open until 11 am or later. The bathrooms were clean. I liked the spraying hand sanitizer they had outside the bathroom and the stand alone sink they had at the high chair area by this spot.

The service was great. The staff were very kind and my order was received within a reasonable amount of time. I ordered a Churro Latte and two hot chocolate drinks for my kids. Unfortunately, none of us were satisfied with the drinks. I also tried the hot chocolate drinks and all three just seemed watered down. There was only a hint of flavor, not rich at all. I don't think I'd come back for the drinks but I am curious about their food items.

The tofu was done really well. The runny fried egg and seaweed added a nice flavor to it. Together with the gochujang and banchan (side dishes) it was just perfect. Matcha is everywhere, but there's a big difference between match and GOOD matcha. And their matcha is GOOD matcha. Really enjoyed their strawberry matcha. It was my first time getting matcha where it was actually in the foam, and while I stirred it a bit to get the strawberry mixed in, having the matcha foam really escalated the flavor of the drink. Husband tried one of their brownies and LOVED it. Not too much seating, but the bar seating was perfect for us. Will definitely have to stop by for another matcha next time we're at the Public Market.

I quickly hopped off the 101 and hopped into the cafe. I ordered a cold brew from the very nice gentleman at the counter, and he served it up. Nothing crazy there. It was definitely a place designed for a spot of coffee and a small snack/meal. I saw plenty of people doing some studying there too. I'm sure that's a great place to do it. Onto the coffee. I ordered the cold brew black, so I was off pretty quick. I got in the car and took a sip. It was a pretty dark roast, and I wanna say pretty French in roast profile? I dunno. Anyways, it was dark, a little muddled in flavor, and not as good as other options in the area, in my opinion. That being said, it was in no way bad, and because everything else was closed, I was happy to have had something. It's not the coffee for me, but I think it's plenty good for a cafe drink and a light meal!
