My recent visit was like all the others, easy as a breeze and at great prices. Yes, it is on Avenue Road next to Pusateri's and looks very high end, and indeed sells a lot of high end lighting, but they also sell lighting fixtures for those of us with smaller budgets. If you just walk in, you can get lost and overwhelmed with the choices, there is everything you could ever want and more. However you can check out their website and pick some options before going to the store, or better yet their current flyer with great deals and specials and have a good idea what you want before you get there. Bonus! Royal Lighting has tons of lights in stock, so if you need to get some new lights up quick, you don't have to wait for them to be shipped, just go and pick them up on the spot! My sales rep Raj, who I have been dealing with since 1995, is great and I highly recommend him... so friendly, so helpful. Another great bonus! Almost all the lights I purchased were made in Canada... something you won't see at Home Depot and the other big box stores where everything is made in China or the US. Union Lighting is known to have the most lighting selection in all of Toronto. We came here to get…read moreinspiration and to check out some lighting IRL instead of just me imagining through Pinterest. We wanted some statement lights over our dining table and kitchen counters. I don't understand why there are such low ratings here. I'm sure many people here are just browsing, and I rather have a sales rep give us the space and only come to us if we need help and seriously find a piece we're considering. So I have no issues with how no one really came up to us. There's a lot of lighting, but personally, not enough contemporary/modern lighting to our liking. We did take some pictures of the few we liked that are more contemporary-inspired. However, we don't love it enough to pull the trigger. The prices for the lighting are very high for the ones we looked at, about $1500 (for that round chandelier) to $5600 (Criss Cross silver lighting). We liked the look of the round chandelier the most. To our surprise, our neighbour has the same one. So loses that unique appeal. Also don't know how we would change the light if it burns out? Lighting is all personal preference. This trip nothing really screamed "this is the one" for us. If you're into other design themes like traditional, industrial, mid-century modern etc, you may find there is more to your liking than the modern/contemporary styles here. I still recommend to check it out though for yourself if you're in the market for lighting.

Their website indicated the fittings were compatible; however, once I had placed the order, I discovered they would not work. I contacted them immediately as the items hadn't been shipped yet. They refused to refund the order, even though the items didn't ship for another week and a half after I had ordered them. So, I now have $400 worth of unopened ceiling fan fittings that I can't use. This company is out of touch with their strict no refund policy on some items--no wonder people shop at amazon. I really wanted to support a local company, but I will never shop there again, and I would caution you against doing so, too.

Don, the salesperson at the Mississauga store, took my order and told me that it would take several weeks to order. He would email me when the fixture arrived. Estimated date of arrival: Nov. 24. I asked to pick up the fixture at the Spadina store. Don wrote it on my receipt. In mid-Dec., I called the Spadina store to confirm that the chandelier had arrived. I had not received any email beforehand. The clerk had no record of the order. He could not find it on the computer. I called Don at the Mississauga store. He took down my info and said he would look into it. More than 6 hrs went by and still no answer from Don or anyone else at Ultra Lighting. I needed the fixture - my electrician was waiting. I called again. Don said that he had called the supplier and that the supplier had no record of the order!! WTF. I asked for a refund. He said I could go to the Mississauga store to process the refund. I asked him to simply do it himself and gave him my credit card number. He agreed and said he would send me either a text or an email when the refund was processed. 3 days have gone by. The refund has been posted to my credit card account. No email from Don. Why do people say they will do something and then, fail to do it? I'm just glad I used a credit card for the deposit. Otherwise, it might have been difficult to get my money back.

We purchased a number of track heads and LED bulbs and they were super friendly and helpful. When we discovered two of them were defective and returned them to exchange for two replacements, it was a different story. Very condescending and snarly. He actually gave me back one of the ones I had returned and I had to do a repair on it myself, when I got home. It really is a stupid way to be. This was the first of many lighting replacements we need to undertake in our home and he has lost any of our future business.

It wasn't as busy and we were able to get service immediately. They were very kind eventhough we came in 15 mins until closing. I definitely recommend this store. Right next door to the more famous Universal Lighting, the prices at this store cannot be beat…read more Staff are friendly and greet you politely when you arrive. They ask if you need assistance and if you decline or say "just looking", they leave you alone to shop. While their selection is not as huge as Universal Lighting, Sescolite or Union Lighting, their prices are cheaper when compared to those other stores. Yesterday, I was on a mission to find a light fixture for an upstairs bathroom. I visited: Home Depot, Lowes, Sescolite, Union Lighting, Universal Lighting, Royal Lighting and a few others scattered on Cartright, and Panet. Spent at least 3 hours looking at lights until a total state of confusion sunk in. I found a light fixture I liked at Panet and comparison shopped at the others but ended up returning to Panet as the price could not be beat. I've purchased the majority of the light fixtures in my home at this store and have found their quality, price and staff to be some of the best out there.

But that is simply not the case when it comes to this lovely antique lighting store. It's a clean, organized shop run by a welcoming patron who knows a lot about the history of the area. It's not overly big, so things are easy to find-- glittery chandeliers, Tiffany style lamps, Art Deco wall sconces-- and nothing is caked in dust (you can actually SEE the lights!). Prices range depending on what you're looking for (as expected), but there's no problem finding the price as delicate tags hang about the room above you like snowflakes. Oh, and don't hesitate to ask him to turn all the lights on. It's spectacular to see everything lit up (even better, go at dusk for an even better view).

Places like Living Lighting are a good reminder of the importance of specialty stores. No matter…read morehow big Home Depot gets, it and stores like it still seem deficient in the selection of departments like lighting fixtures, which come in a whole bunch of varieties, and aren't uniform in the way that lumber or hardware is. This Living Lighting store has a good selection, though it's necessarily a bit cramped inside. Interestingly, they also do repairs on lighting fixtures, which is helpful when the reading lamp you get elsewhere shorts out somewhere inside; a repair is cheaper, and saves you from rethinking the decor when you can't replace the exact model which no one makes anymore.

Sometimes these types of stores are so packed you can barely move around - not this location. Set in a lower level/basement like space it felt modern and comfortable. Walking in - I instantly wished I had brought an extra duffle bag. Between the aisles of pillows, the kitchen/dining section, and the picture frames - I was in heaven. Fortunately for Hubs they also have tons of furniture, so he was able to find a {super cute} chair up front to relax in while I wandered. B/c my luggage could not accommodate all that I had seen I settled on a really beautiful picture frame to commemorate our visit to Toronto. Check out was super easy - seeing as how they had several cashiers available. And my frame, after $$ conversion was only $7. Yay for HomeSense!
