Good alternative to the box stores. You can find a gem of an item that isn't so generic. Service was great as well.

Once I actually went inside Fute Design, my longing extended to everything I saw. Clean, dark wood coffee tables, more cocoon chairs, gorgeous sectional couches and desks and dining tables, oh my. Most of the furniture seems to have a summery, leisurely feel to it -- it's serious design but it seems so comfortable and airy that it should be near a beach. The store appears to be there more for display purposes, for buyers and distributors to buy things in bulk more than for me to come in and drool over furniture. That said, I don't think I can afford most of the stuff in here anyways -- everything was really gorgeous and handmade but there is a price to pay for such things. When I am rich and buy a beach house in Hawaii, I will stock up on Futé designs to fill it. Until then, I will dream.

A great place for gift ideas as well. Their furniture on the floor are mostly on clearance. So you can always find some original designer stuff for 40-60% less. Also helped me to see if I can find some cushions the patio bench seat. Service was excellent for Toronto retail. I didn't catch her name but she helped me get an estimate for what the delivery fee would be and I had the option to take 2 chairs home and come pick up the rest another day. Part 2 of my pick up, she recognized me and helped me take the dining table out of its box so I can fit it in my car and carry it out easier. She carried all the way outside of the store. She's petite and I wasn't expecting her to help me right out the door and she did! I can't say the same happens at other stores even if it's someone taller stronger, they may not help carry out something so willingly. Thanks for the great shopping experience!

During my move, I worked close to their old location on Ossington, and drew so much inspiration from their aesthetic during my lunch breaks. I bought everything from mirrors to picture frames to dishes to adorable trinkets to bath towels. I even painted my new bedroom the exact same Benjamin Moore green that they had in their storefront window. The space of their newer location on Dundas is wonderful (aka much more room for cute things). Highly recommend. Everyone is always friendly and helpful as well.

Don't take my word for it - check out the stunning transformation in the photo below. The compliments I have received on everything I've purchased from Chatelet have been "OMG! That's gorgeous!" When I first came to the store, I was helped by her daughter who was polite, however, I was confused why she spent a lot of time ranting and complaining about her mom (the store owner - Theresa) to a stranger. However, I didn't chalk it up to much and moved on. Awhile later, after I bought a set of chairs, and the owner and I had agreed that her team will not re-paint the wood frame and I'll buy the fabric. This resulted in a mutually agreed discount due to the reduced labour in repainting and sourcing/purchasing the material. However, when my parents came to drop off the fabric, Theresa began back-tracking on our arrangement and tried talking them into paying more! She complained how much labour this project was going to take, and how much she undercharged us for the chairs. Moreover, she began complaining about sourcing trim for the chairs, which again, her daughter confirmed was possible in my first visit! My dad had to offer to buy it for her for her to stop complaining because she was making such a fuss about it, despite it being an essential step in any upholstery job. This all felt rude and disrespectful; why bother negotiating if everything flies out at a moment's notice? We continued on because we had already paid for the fabric and designed our living room with these chairs. We asked that the original chair's fabric be given back to us (for another project, since we paid for it anyways), which Theresa acknowledged. However on pick-up day we found out they had been thrown into the trash!! We were only given a "whoops, my bad" apology. Our family also works with fabrics and DIY projects a lot, so we had a good idea of how much fabric this project may take. We had specifically asked that any excess to be given back to us and we knew how much that excess would be. Upon pick up day though, the remainder was less than what we expected. Also, the wood frame hadn't been cleaned and was covered in dust. Not to mention she proceeded to complain during cash-out, again, how undercharged these chairs were and how she'll never do a project like this again. I simply cannot understand how someone can run a business like this. It's completely unfathomable to our family to ever treat a customer in this regard. However, at this point, we didn't care what she said/did because we were utterly done with this store and just wanted our chairs. The cherry on top though was seeing a recent post on her store with the exact same fabric from our chairs. Now mind you, this fabric is expensive and was from a family-run Etsy store in the UK, and from what I can see, is the only store online that sells it. I have visited the fabric stores the owner said she frequented when finding materials for my chairs, plus about 10 other fabric stores in the GTA, and none of these stores carry this fabric. Given the track record that Theresa has established (not responding to my emails, back-tracking on prior arrangements and trying to get my parents to cough up more money, complaining about sourcing trim for the job, throwing out the previous fabric despite being asked otherwise and not doing anything to rectify that mistake, and passive aggressively complaining about how she charged too little for the chairs throughout the last half of the project), I wouldn't put it past her to have taken a piece of fabric, without permission, for this new project. If this is incorrect, I'll happily withdraw my accusation, however the evidence is really stacking up. Save yourself a world of hurt, and go to another store.
