I had a particularly difficult size (28.5" x 131") skylight that was 40+ years old that for years no one could still make. I was thrilled when I contacted Lighten Up Skylight and they said they could provide a Velux custom with a double dome. The quote was very reasonable and they did an excellent installation. I highly recommend them! read more

Lighten Up Skylights - Lighting Fixtures & Equipment Near Me

Peter did a gorgeous job putting a 6ft skylight in our north facing kitchen, with a very deep 9ft rise to the roof surface, and it looks incredible. He also replaced an old and dingy 2ft skylight in our hallway and what a difference it made! He's very professional, extremely knowledgeable, and very personable, like having your favorite uncle over to do some work. :) Peter is everything you want in a contractor. Honest, accurate with his estimate for price and time, hard working and cares about doing it right. We were involved in the whole process, talking through the exact placement and size options and he had very insightful recommendations. He tarped and taped everything off and cleaned up every night so we could use our kitchen each evening, which was really wonderful. He swept up so well you wouldn't even know there was work being done unless you looked at the plastic over the hole in the ceiling. He even did a little extra handyman work I requested (outside the scope of regular skylight work but he was very generously willing and his rate for the handyman service was very reasonable and SO worth it!) since access to the attic is difficult and having the ceiling open was the perfect opportunity to connect the range exhaust correctly to the roof vent (was never done properly by previous owner) which was a huge thing off my to do list! We highly recommend him! Now that our dark kitchen is so lovely and light, I'm already thinking of adding another in the south facing living room, which ought to be the brightest in the house, but the kitchen is outshining it! Thank you again Peter! We really appreciate you and LOVE our skylight! read more

Pete is a true pro and a pleasure to work with! He is very knowledgeable and helped guide our decision process which is very helpful if you have never purchased or installed a skylight before. He's communicative, on time, on budget, has a great attitude, and does outstanding work. Do not hesitate to give him a call. Highly recommended! read more

Two years into this pandemic, our dungeon of a living room was a drag on our new stay at home lifestyle, so we called Pete. We'd met him years ago to get a quote to replace leaky skylights on our new townhouse but ultimately went with the HOA's roofer... which was a huge, stressful, dirty mistake. For the living room I wanted to deal with the HOA's roofers as little as possible. In comes Pete. Not only do he do spectacular work, his high level of communication, professionalism, and cleanliness made the process easy. And he's, frankly, a pleasant person to be around. He volunteered to take the lead on coordinating with the HOA's roofers (we were required to hire them to do the waterproofing) and got all the work done in an impressive two days. As an interior designer I deal with construction details, scheduling, and aligning trades all day. When I get home I have no interest in doing more . With Pete, I didn't have to. read more

We needed 3 2'x2' skylights replaced. All we wanted was an upgraded version of what we had. I had done my research so I knew it was something that could be done. It was very difficult to get someone to come to our house to get a quote. Through "Nextdoor" I was directed to Lighten Up Skylights. Peter was quick to set up an appointment, had the exact type of skylight we were looking for and gave us a very competitive price. He was back out in a week, did the job in 2 hours and even repaired a broken tile near another set of skylights in the roof. I would highly recommend Peter and his company- he is the owner/installer and all round extraordinary guy. We will definitely use him again with our 2 large 2'x8' skylight replacements..... read more

Project: Installed 2 Solar Tubes in Kitchen Peter is straight forward, professional and tells you exactly what you need. He will not try and upsale additional tubes, told us two tubes should do the trick and if not.....we can install more later. Our kitchen was sooooo dark we had to turned on our lights in the morning and afternoon. I don't know how the previous owner functioned in the dungeon. We went with the 2 tubes Peter recommended. I think what really sold me was the fact that Peter who quoted the job was also the guy who installed them. We are thrilled with the results! I keep thinking I left the lights on! read more

If you need anything done regarding skylights, Without any hesitation whatsoever, I absolutely recommend Pete and Lighten Up Skylights in the strongest terms possible. Please let me explain why. We had skylights installed by a remodeling contractor (b/c we didn't know about Pete and Lighten Up Skylights at that time) and there was one problem after another. Finally, when the glass became delaminated and we couldn't see through them, we got a great recommendation for Pete and Lighten Up Skylights, and we are SO grateful for that recommendation and so glad we made that call! Pete replaced the glass and that alone was fantastic. But he also saw where the skylights were leaking, and he made sure he came out to seal them before the Hilary storm came with heavy rain - showing that Pete truly cares about his customers. Pete not only replaced the glass for our skylights and sealed them so they won't leak, but he also did a comprehensive overhaul of each skylight, including cleaning them (and the screens), and he lubricated the chain and mechanical parts. Quite frankly, when Pete was done, our skylights now look and operate as if they are brand new! Wow! What a major transformation! And he did all of that for a very reasonable price! But that's not all... One of the first things that comes across when you meet Pete is his genuine willingness to work hard and his determination to do the job right. After Pete made a detailed assessment of what was needed, he then explained everything in an easy-to-understand way. And another thing you immediately realize about Pete is his profound sincerity - if Pete says he will do something, you KNOW he will do it! He was great with consistent communication, he promptly provided a detailed job proposal with an excellent price, and then he worked with us to schedule the job. I honestly can't recall an easier or less stressful situation to have work done on the house! I just knew I could trust Pete, and he was always very pleasant too. Thank you, sincerely, Pete! If you need anything done regarding skylights, you will definitely be very happy with Pete and Lighten Up Skylights! read more

Very happy with the installation of 3 large skylights in our living room. We researched every skylight brand and installation company carefully before selecting Lighten Up Skylights. Peter did a great job! read more

Peter was wonderful to work with from start to finish. We had a skylight in our front entryway of the house that needed replacement. Peter was very helpful and knowledgeable in picking out what would work best. He was really communicative and professional through the whole process. The day of instal was easy. He even took the time to walk me through how to work the skylight and test out the opening features to ensure we knew how to operate. I highly recommend, and will be using Lighten Up Skylights in the future! Thanks Peter!! read more

I called around a few places and Pete at Lighten Up gave me the most reasonable quote. I had installed some Home Depot solar tubes about 15 years ago in my kitchen and wanted to add some more in my living room. He explained how the HD tubes tend to yellow over time and said he uses a product that didn't. I went with his recomendaron for my living room but asked him if he could use a HD tube in my kitchen so it would match my others, which he said he could. The installation process was very professional. He confirmed the placement before installing and laid down tarps to keep the work area clean. The end result was fantastic!! I very happy with my new bright living room. And he was right about the older HD tubes- they do look yellow compared to the new ones. I highly recommend Peter and Lighten Up Skylights!! read more

Perfect customer experience every step of the way. Peter does an amazing job working to your budget and explaining all the intricacies. He also makes sure to take very good care of your roof and anything else that might be impacted by installing the skylight. Couldnt have asked for a better customer experience and would use again anytime. read more

Pete and his brother were nothing short of amazing. They were very competitive on price and held strict to the agreed upon schedule. The final result was better than I had ever imagined. The skylights really made a huge difference. Thanks again Pete!!! read more

Peter and his team recently installed solar tubes and they did a great job. They were on time, efficient, and cleaned up well after the construction. The project was reasonably priced and I would highly recommend them. Great contractor! Keith G. read more

Looks like Pete has a lot of fans here, and I am in compete agreement. He was recommended to me by my roofing contractor, to replace my very old, leaky skylights in the kitchen and bathroom. I knew during our first meeting that I couldn't go wrong with him. Tons of experience and ideas, plus reasonable too. He needed to do repairs to the tunnels to the skylights, and did a wonderful job. The skylights are beautiful! Outstanding work, product, and service. read more

Peter and family did a fantastic job on our kitchen skylight! It was a dark hole of a kitchen and is now so light, bright, and airy with the vented glass. It took a couple of days and when they left at the end of each day, they cleared the area so nicely and made the kitchen fully functional...which was GREAT! Peter is a perfectionist and even fixed the wiring for the lights just to make things even better than it was. Pricing was excellent and my only regret was that I didn't get skylights in my bathrooms as well! I'll definitely be calling them again next year when we are ready to add more skylights! read more

We've had Lighten Up Skylights do work at our house twice now, both with excellent results. I wouldn't hesitate to call Peter again with any additional projects. Thank you! read more

I can't begin to tell you how great this company is. Had them replace a skylight in my elderly moms house in Solana Beach. Unbelievable price and work was first class. Customer service fantastic. YOU WONT GO WRONG WITH THIS Company read more

After 1.5 years, we noticed one the skylights had multiple cracks. It looked similar to a glass stained window. I called the owner and he said the manufacturer would cover a replacement. He checked for a impact point (rock, ball, etc) and there was none. I was happy it was replaced at no cost to us. Our second skylight is fine. I think it's just strange circumstance that caused the cracks. read more

Pete is great, I contacted him in September to see if he would install a couple of solar tubes in my bathrooms and a rectangular skylight in my kitchen - I wasn't sure if he would do work in Mira Mesa since he was based out on Oceanside but he was happy to help! He came by for a consultation and was very thorough with explaining to my husband and I the entire process and provided us with numerous examples of our different options. While we were waiting for the parts to arrive he kept in constant communication with me and stayed on schedule when it came to the install date - Pete and his brother even got done earlier then originally planned! I would definitely recommend Pete and Lighten Up Skylights to anyone that wants to brighten up their home. In fact we will plan in having Pete come out one last time to install one more tube in our dark hallway =) Pete is honest, great at his craft and is reasonably priced - couldn't ask for more! read more

Husband and wife team are efficient, quick, and wonderful to work with. They are tidy, putting up plastic to contain the dust, and cleaning up at the end of each day. We had 2 skylights put in, the job only took 2 days and it was quality work for a good price. read more

Add me to the list of fans of Pete. He has a great personality and very easy to work with. We had a cracked skylight that needs to be replaced. After calling couple skylight repair companies, I decided to go with Lighten Up Skylights. Pete is honest and you can tell he is really putting an effort to make the replacement work as smooth as possible for us. He went out of his way to silicone some of the broken tiles as well while replacing the skylight. He was on time on both occasion for inspection and for replacing the skylight. The price was also reasonable. Overall, we are very happy with his service and definitely recommend him if you every need any skylight services. read more

I recently contracted Lighten Up Skylights and Pete Frolander and I just want to say it was a great experience. Pete did an excellent job replacing my skylight and went above and beyond on the installation. Quality work and great service! I felt like we were truly taking to an expert when Pete came over for a visit before starting the project. He made sure to listen to our goals with the skylights and responded with ease and instantly built our trust. We were in a bit of a hurry to start work and Pete jumped on the job briskly and ordered parts right away. Highly recommend as we love the work and Pete was awesome! Thank you!! read more

Pete came and replaced my skylights in the exact time frame he suggested. His communication was very clear from start to finish and he kept me fully in the loop every step of the way. One of the skylights he received from the wholesaler was slightly damaged. Pete was very honest in sharing this information as the damage was minimal and not really visible to the eye when looking up to the skylight in the house. He discounted the job for this reason. Its hard to find honest tradesmen, of any trade, but Pete is one of them! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

We had an awesome experience with Peter and Deanna and the beauty and light added to our home is exceptional. They were on time, professional, friendly, very careful and clean up everything. I am very disappointed with the work done by Lighten Up Skylights. I called Peter about the black mold coming down the wall from his installation of a new skylight. I stated the last one that was installed with the home which was built in the late 70's never had mold showing. I replaced it as it had a crack in the very top of the dome. I started to state my concern to Peter. He then immediately interrupted me to ramble on how it could not be his problem and all the reasons why NOT without letting me finish my concerns. I had to interrupt to get a word in. When I tried to tell him, he said how I was interrupting him! He laughed and was rude. I had to end the conversation. I told him I have one lung, highly allergic to mold, have asthma. I have been wheezing and breathing has become a large problem. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE!!! read more

Knowledgeable, fast, kind, professional, reasonable, and efficient! These guys know what they're doing and do it with honesty and kindness. I cannot recommend them enough! They came out to Poway to fix a broken skylight. If you're reading this, thank you again! read more

What a Professional Company! I was in the process of closing an escrow and had to have skylights replaced quickly in a home I didn't live in. Peter was always on top of things, it isn't often that companies keep you up to date on every step of the process; Billing, invoices, orders, progress, and final work completion. I never once had to wonder what was happening with the process of the skylight replacements, he even sent me final photos of the completed work. Thank you. read more

Pete Frolander and his family did a great job at our place, replacing two old skylights that were not operational any longer. He replaced them entirely, keeping only the glass. He came with his wife and son, and worked only from the roof, protecting the inside floors with tarps. They did a great job, and very quick. We highly recommend Lighten Up Skylights. read more

Pete installed a very large skylight in our entryway in a timely and professional manner. We could not be happier with his customer service and his attention to detail. The skylight has added a ton of light to our home and looks beautiful. We got a number of estimates and Pete was the most thorough, most reasonable and proved to be the most timely. Would highly recommend their work. read more

Pete is great! We needed a sun tunnel installed in our very dark hallway. They are super professional, arrived on time, cleaned up and followed up when I had a question. Excellent customer service. I can't recommend him enough. Great product. Great service. read more

Remember that biblical phrase, 'Let there be light'? Analogous to what it was like at our house after Peter and his crew completed work on our new skylight - excellent customer service, superb craftsmanship, In short, highly recommend them! read more

Peter is a fantastic example for how to treat customers. He returned my original phone call for an estimate promptly. He scheduled an in home estimate, followed up to confirm our appointment and arrived ON TIME. Something that is rare in my experience with contractors. He provided a thorough explanation of recommendations, answered all my questions and gave me a better estimate than another contractor who would only provide me an over the phone estimate. Peter also noted that an existing tube light in my bathroom needed a part which I was unaware of and offered to do the repair for just the cost of the material. That was nice! All the work Peter and his team did was done professionally, they were conscientious about keeping the area in my living room protected from debris by covering all furniture and using drop clothes. The work was done on time as promised, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Peter runs an honest and reliable business and I highly recommend him. read more
