Peter did a gorgeous job putting a 6ft skylight in our north facing kitchen, with a very deep 9ft rise to the roof surface, and it looks incredible. He also replaced an old and dingy 2ft skylight in our hallway and what a difference it made! He's very professional, extremely knowledgeable, and very personable, like having your favorite uncle over to do some work. :) Peter is everything you want in a contractor. Honest, accurate with his estimate for price and time, hard working and cares about doing it right. We were involved in the whole process, talking through the exact placement and size options and he had very insightful recommendations. He tarped and taped everything off and cleaned up every night so we could use our kitchen each evening, which was really wonderful. He swept up so well you wouldn't even know there was work being done unless you looked at the plastic over the hole in the ceiling. He even did a little extra handyman work I requested (outside the scope of regular skylight work but he was very generously willing and his rate for the handyman service was very reasonable and SO worth it!) since access to the attic is difficult and having the ceiling open was the perfect opportunity to connect the range exhaust correctly to the roof vent (was never done properly by previous owner) which was a huge thing off my to do list! If you need anything done regarding skylights, Without any hesitation whatsoever, I absolutely recommend Pete and Lighten Up Skylights in the strongest terms possible. Please let me explain why. We had skylights installed by a remodeling contractor (b/c we didn't know about Pete and Lighten Up Skylights at that time) and there was one problem after another. Finally, when the glass became delaminated and we couldn't see through them, we got a great recommendation for Pete and Lighten Up Skylights, and we are SO grateful for that recommendation and so glad we made that call! Pete replaced the glass and that alone was fantastic. But he also saw where the skylights were leaking, and he made sure he came out to seal them before the Hilary storm came with heavy rain - showing that Pete truly cares about his customers. Pete not only replaced the glass for our skylights and sealed them so they won't leak, but he also did a comprehensive overhaul of each skylight, including cleaning them (and the screens), and he lubricated the chain and mechanical parts. I called around a few places and Pete at Lighten Up gave me the most reasonable quote. I had installed some Home Depot solar tubes about 15 years ago in my kitchen and wanted to add some more in my living room. He explained how the HD tubes tend to yellow over time and said he uses a product that didn't. I went with his recomendaron for my living room but asked him if he could use a HD tube in my kitchen so it would match my others, which he said he could. The installation process was very professional. He confirmed the placement before installing and laid down tarps to keep the work area clean. The end result was fantastic!! Peter and family did a fantastic job on our kitchen skylight! It was a dark hole of a kitchen and is now so light, bright, and airy with the vented glass. It took a couple of days and when they left at the end of each day, they cleared the area so nicely and made the kitchen fully functional...which was GREAT! Peter is a perfectionist and even fixed the wiring for the lights just to make things even better than it was. After 1.5 years, we noticed one the skylights had multiple cracks. It looked similar to a glass stained window. I called the owner and he said the manufacturer would cover a replacement. He checked for a impact point (rock, ball, etc) and there was none. I was happy it was replaced at no cost to us. Our second skylight is fine. I think it's just strange circumstance that caused the cracks. read more

I am very disappointed with the work done by Lighten Up Skylights. I called Peter about the black mold coming down the wall from his installation of a new skylight. I stated the last one that was installed with the home which was built in the late 70's never had mold showing. I replaced it as it had a crack in the very top of the dome. I started to state my concern to Peter. He then immediately interrupted me to ramble on how it could not be his problem and all the reasons why NOT without letting me finish my concerns. I had to interrupt to get a word in. When I tried to tell him, he said how I was interrupting him! He laughed and was rude. I had to end the conversation. He scheduled an in home estimate, followed up to confirm our appointment and arrived ON TIME. Something that is rare in my experience with contractors. He provided a thorough explanation of recommendations, answered all my questions and gave me a better estimate than another contractor who would only provide me an over the phone estimate. Peter also noted that an existing tube light in my bathroom needed a part which I was unaware of and offered to do the repair for just the cost of the material. That was nice!
