Fast luncheonette style bagel-coffee-doughnut-sandwich-cookie type of stop! I enjoy the old school traditional look albeit a bit dated. Nice selection of bagels, all fresh toasted to order just the way you like! Friendly staff is quick and efficient. I got an egg bagel and a coffee and both were just right. There is seating inside but I took my food to go and hit the board walk because, hello the ocean is right there! I absolutely love the convince of the location and the value for the price. Greatest Bagel Shop! Usually a short but quickly moving line at the long established bagelry in the center of Long Beach opposite Town Hall and the Railroad Station. Recently came under new ownership when longtime owner retired. However friendly staff has stayed on so orders are filled quickly and efficiently. The most important thing to know before you go into Life's a Bagel is do I get a good bagel at a good price. And the answer is overwhelmingly yes to both. The staff is very friendly multilingual and can help anybody that comes in the shop. The food is always freshly made and handled with care. When you're looking at your sugar because it's too high try the low carb bagels. You would not know the difference between a regular bagel and the low carb that's how delicious it is. The variety of spreads they have is more than enough to choose from. I personally recommend the white fish salad and salmon salad. The only negative if you want to look at it that way the ambience is nothing special it's like eating in your kitchen but everybody that sits there is friendly and personable and you're not sitting alone. I was so looking forward to having a bagel at this place, I ordered a bagel with tuna and mustard and the lady working behind the counter who is about 70 years old, splattered half the bottle of mustard on my bagel. You can definitely tell she hates her job. Also ordered an iced coffee and asked her nicely to pour some ice out since she filled it all the way to the top and she then replied "how? I already put it in" in her broken english. Why should you pay $12 for a tuna bagel and a medium size iced coffee for this kind of service and a bagel splattered with mustard. I placed a very large order of bagels and spreads for a work function ahead of time and picked them up this morning. The location of this place is prime, so I was thrilled to get a spot right out front! It was packed inside, but my order was ready on time and done perfectly. My only issue was that the woman behind the counter was having trouble with my credit card - it has a chip in it and she continually swiped and swiped and swiped it before turning around and announcing loudly to the entire room that my card was 'declined'. I was forced to use my personal debit card because she didn't know how to use the chip reader which is going to make my reimbursement for work a nightmare. That all being said, the bagels were excellent and I would definitely recommend stopping by. Next time, I'll just bring cash!! read more

I moved in about 2 blocks away across the street about 5 years ago....and discovered to my delight that not only does Life's A Bagel serve bagels but they serve flagels (flat bagels) as well! The flavor on the bagels is delicious and the texture is perfect - soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside (no toasting needed). The selection of flavored cream cheeses is also exceptional. The staff is very nice and very quick, but I do recommend watching them with the cream cheese as I've received the wrong flavor a few times (there are many to choose from, honest mistake). Two cons to this place: the ambience (not comfortable to sit and eat) and the hours - since they open at 5am, they close at 3pm.... wake up early, get some bagels..definitely worth it :) read more

The bagels were great. That being said - the rest of the experience was not. Service was painfully slow and incompetent, and then I was overcharged. Due to the extremely slow service, I had to run out to catch a train and didn't realize I got charged for 3 sandwiches instead of 2 until too late. Might still go back, but only when I have plenty of time to kill - so I won't mind waiting forever for a simple order, and so that I have time to check my receipt. This place has the worst tasting bagels & coffee in Long Beach. I've eaten bagels all over NY for 32 years of my life. I walk past this place every morning on my walk to the train and smell the bagels being made and wish that I had a decent place to grab a cup of coffee on my walk to the train. I get to the bagel shop to buy a few bagels for mom and my wife and when I get to the counter the lady points out that they do not accept debit or credit unless you spend a minimum of $10. What a poor way of running a business. The lady who served me wasn't pleasant either. It was actually a blessing because down the road about 1.3 miles was Long Beach Bagel Café and this place has everything and I mean everything for breakfast and lunch. Honest review: The bagels are above average (Murray's in West Village is way better), the hot coffee is always super-watery (I've never had the iced) but the staff is always friendly and very efficient, especially in the summer when the city LIRR folk crowd in here en route to the beach. This food is worth getting, but know that it's a bit pricey (kosher) and they ONLY take cash. At least they round down if your total is a few cents over a dollar. So, there's that. Every time I go to this bagel store they always give me the wrong bagel, I tell them "I want a bagel dug out with cream cheese don't toast it'' they go ahead and toast the dug out bagel and it makes it all melted and disgusting. At first I thought the bagels were just ok, but then I tasted the Egg-Everything bagel. OH MY GOSH. It is so delicious. They lather on the cream cheese and the whole experience is just so delicious. My second favorite is the sesame bagel with strawberry cream cheese. The staff is really friendly, fast, and can handle large orders when your picking up for friends. I love this bagel spot when I'm in a rush. They move quick and most times the line isn't that bad but the bagels are a hit or miss. Solid 3-stars for a Long Beach institution. After getting off the train from Penn Station, I don't walk out to the beach at Long Beach without a bagel sandwich from this place. It's not fancy, it's usually chaotic, the patrons - in a stampede, all coming from the same train - can be seriously annoying, and the bagels aren't top-quality amazing by city standards. But the bagels are just plain good, their egg salad and tuna salad are tasty, and they have a number of cream cheese spreads, a selection of chips/pretzels and bottled beverages. My bagel was great, but the service could've been better. The first guy I talked to ignored me and when I said excuse me he said, gruffly, "I'm already helping someone else." A bit rude! Anyway, the woman I placed my order with was more polite and friendly. However, she only gave me a couple very thin napkins with my bagel, and when I asked for more napkins, she said they're in the bag. I said can I have some more please? And she literally handed me like three more very thin napkins. I'm a messy eater so this irked me but other than that the bagel is pretty good.
