I have been a member here for over 10 years! This gym has 2 indoor hot tubs, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, 3 steam rooms, children's daycare, 2 basketball courts, 5 tennis courts, personal trainers, nutritionists, and a cafe! About 3 years ago I started taking tennis lessons with Coach Thomas. 1 month ago my friend and I decided to take a free yoga class together. The gym/weights are located up stairs. Before starting my workout I always sanitize/wipe down before and after using the equipment. Life Time Fitness has so much to offer compared to other gyms. read more

Yesterday was my last day at Lifetime. I sent a much longer version of these items to the CEO of the company via email today, but here are the bullet points. I strongly encourage you to consider (and look for) these before joining or staying at Lifetime. I've giving two stars because the front desk staff and spa staff are incredibly friendly and they have some great yoga classes. The general workout experience is terrible and has gone downhill terribly in the past year and a half. -Broken equipment is consistently mishandled. Broken equipment is left out without warning signs, when there are signs they are sometimes removed without repairs, they constantly miss estimated repair dates (weeks, even a month or more), and in one case a broken piece of equipment was brought back out onto the floor unfixed. - The majority of the training staff does not respect other people working around them. I've had my equipment taken while I put other things away, my space encroached on as I'm working, I've even been run into by trainers while working out. - The layout was redesigned a year and a half ago, and now most foot traffic upstairs crosses right through the general fitness area. You are constantly having people walk right through your workout. There is mostly unused equipment cluttering the whole area. - Recently much of the cardio equipment was replaced, despite the old equipment working fine. The new equipment has tiny cup holders that can't hold hydroflask or Nalgene bottles, two of the most common water bottles. But the equipment looks pretty... - During peak hours there are huge training classes in the middle of the gym. It can be hard to find basic equipment like mats, and in some cases hard to even move around the gym. - The lap pools have ten total lanes...and over half are blocked every weeknight and Saturday mornings for classes. - Areas of the facility are constantly closed for random events. - Rules are posted, but not enforced. Or observed by trainers. People leave bags everywhere and sit on equipment playing on their phones. No one does anything about this. - The current training manager, Ryan, told me "he's made a conscious business decision to not enforce the rules until he can change the culture." He spends 95% of his time in his office, so his computer must have great culture. - I have never had a complaint sent in answered, and I don't know of any member who has. - Management turns over constantly. They all talk a good game, do virtually nothing, and then are gone. - The current training manager has been there since the beginning of the year and doesn't even have his name on his office door. The current general manager has been there four months and still doesn't have his picture on the sign in the lobby. No accountability if members don't know who you are. This is just a small sample, but there is only so much people will read. If you are thinking of joining and do a tour, take a critical look at what you're getting. Look at the number of signs listing time restrictions on equipment. Look at the clutter left all over. Look at the trainers who don't leave space for the commonfolk around them. Don't just fall for the shiny objects they try to sell you on. read more

Was told over the phone that in order to cancel my membership I had to come in to the physical location or send a letter in the mail. I chose to send a letter a week and half before my next billing cycle. Well, I recieved another charge on my account from good ol lifetime fitness. I called in upset, they won't refund me the money, and told me the letter has to be a 'certified' letter this time. read more

Such a good example of how poor leadership and management can make something so nice and shiny so horrible. Lifetime Fitness has been a great experience in every location except the Tempe location. This place is a mess on so many levels from reported sexual assault going unaddressed to inexperienced managers not knowing how to handle difficult situations to poor practices in their childcare facility. Do yourself a favor and visit any other location. I literally have tried multiple ways to have my issues handled and have resorted to this because of poor customer service and bad management. Also, please don't let your kids use the steam room unsupervised. There is a "longtime member" who likes to do unspeakable things in there and Life Time refuses to address it. read more

Its a great gym until you try to cancel your membership. Im in the middle of moving to a different state but they won't let me cancel over the phone. They require you to drive down to the gym or go to the post office and mail a certified letter in order to cancel. Such a pain when you're in the middle of moving. You can cancel your cable, your utility bills and virtually every other subscription right over the phone or online but not your gym membership? Terrible customer service. read more

Sure Lifetime is expensive at time you feel ripped off and think to your self is that extra 50 bucks a month really worth a clean towel and nice smelling soap in the dressing room or the huge swimming pools well its hard to say... to some its not, but to me I guess it is. The indoor and outdoor pools are huge, lots of basketball courts, rock climbing , spa on site, resturant with weekly meal preps, gym equipment is modern but limited during rush hours but as far as cardio goes this place is an all out cardio lovers dream as there are tons of cardio equipment and even during rush hours you can always find one to use. Day care here is 10 bucks extra per kid and is great for older kids as they usually have some kind of activity for them to do like kids yoga, karate, zumba, etc. Overall its a tad bit expensive and having a contract sucks but its the best gym around in my opinion. read more

I have been a member for little over two years and it wasn't till recently that I decided to get with a trainer. I met with John Zwack a personal trainer at the gym when he was just starting out here in tempe. Since that day my life has turned around. I worked with him in training and nutrition and he helped me loose over 100 lbs in 6 months. At this point I consider john to be a close friend as well as a fitness consultant! Stay away from here! They will charge you life time. I went to the Tempe location at December in person to cancel my account. The staff helped me cancelled my account told me there be a 10 dollar future charge for January and no more charge in the future. I paid the 10 dollar in store and left. But I got a 40 dollar charge half month later after I cancelled my account. They claim "You account was active on the day you cancelled it." Please train your staffs well and let them know what is the correct information they should tell the customer before they work! read more

I am firm believer that price is related to what you want to pay and/or expect to receive for services rendered. So now that we have addressed the price regarding this gym let's get to details. Reasons I adore this gym... 1. I firm believer on excellent customer service considering I work in the industry... EVERYTIME I enter and leave this gym someone greets me! 2. Ample parking with reason to door 3. The club is always clean 4. Women's locker room - Always stacked with clean towels and bonus tip... you can use your gym card to lock your locker... so you don't have to worry about forgetting to bring combination lock for locker. 5. Women's locker has steam room and multiple showed for use after your workout. It also has different size towels.. 6. The station where they clean and fold the towels I can can clearly see them washing and folding the towels.. it's not behind room somewhere it's in the public for everyone to see.. 7. 4 swimming pools for usage 8. Sauna room --/-YESSSSS 9. Yoga room with multiple classes throughout the day including HOT YOGA!!! 10. Weight area is massive and has plenty of equiement. There are plenty of reasons why this club is worth the price but there are few of my reasons... I would say come check it out and let me know if you don't want to stay a while in the cafe! read more

BE VERY CAREFUL!!!! LifeTime promotes the fact that they offer a no-hassle cancellation policy. They are trained to put you on a freeze when you cancel only to have your credit card recurring payments reinstated after 6 months. I guess they think that you will not be paying attention to your statement. I went in on December 13 2013 to cancel and instead they put me on a freeze, unbeknownst to me. And WALAH, 6 months later there's a charge on my credit card. Life Time is greedy and their ethical practices are non-existent. I called Member Relations at 888-430-6432 and was given the run around. They didn't agree to give me back my money for June 2014 and even told me that I would have to pay another month to cancel. This is why I despise auto pay because it takes an act of congress to get out of the agreement. I hope this post will make those who are considering Life Time think twice about giving their credit cards when signing up. But oh well, maybe they needed the money since June is the slowest month for them. read more

I've been able to visit this gym on numerous occasions visiting AZ over the last 3-4 years and always really liked it. This time I was blown away. My boyfriend & I were under evacuation orders b/c of CA fires (very stressful!) and this time I got to come to the gym for 8 days thanks to Jorge. Jorge was as helpful & knowledgeable as could be day in & day out. Much of the staff was super friendly & some were even familiar faces from over the years, like Jorge & Chuck. The guys at the cafe, Robert & Eddie, were endlessly helpful to us & my food allergy too. My boyfriend & I ate there every single day because the quality of the food met our high standards. Other members were all pretty friendly or kept to themselves & the gym had everything I could ever want to work out fully. My boyfriend exercises at the beach & doesn't even like gyms, but he liked this one! We're regular joe's living in a very nice part of California where the nicest gym in town doesn't come close to comparison to Lifetime...and it's 60% more expensive. I think from reading some of the reviews that people have lost perspective. Between the incredible cafe, pool, cardio, sauna, extra space, tons of equipment and amazing staff we were ready to move to Tempe if lost everything. Thank you Jorge! I'v been a member of this facility for about 6 month now. It is well managed and the gym is in great shape. I think it is better gym than any other gym near by. I love swimming, basketball, and cardio. The locker room has nice sauna and clean towers. There is also a hot tub that I enjoy. Downside: If u r looking for doing regular work out, this might be well over-priced. read more

Not surprised to see a low-ish star rating here. These guys are money hungry and don't care much about their members. I had my membership on hold for about 6 mo and when it came time to reinstate it, I called them twice and emailed as I wanted to keep it on hold for one more month since we are moving to a different location. I left a total of three voicemails and FINALLY got a hold of someone on May 2nd after they had conveniently charged me for the month. When they call me back to "help me out" they basically tell me they won't be able to do anything. Canceling my membership tomorrow. Yea the club is nice but when you've paid on time for two years and then get treated like that over one small issue, it becomes clear what they are really after. $$$$$ read more

Have a love/hate relationship with this place. Was very excited about this place when I first moved here from NYC, and it does look very nice and have a lot of areas for any sort of work out you'd like, but not crazy about the policies, price hikes, and how they tend to cut corners to save a buck whenever possible. Great outdoor pools, relatively newer machines (without TVs on them-kind of surprising), many squash courts (call in advance), a rock climbing wall I've never used, and my wife loves the cardio and yoga classes. There also seems to be a thriving social scene with get togethers, bike groups, run groups, etc. The best thing about this gym is that you can drop your kids off in the care center for 2 hours to work out. My wife loves this feature even more. It's too bad the very qualified workers there make close to minimum wage, seeing as hard as they work, and they still make these low wages despite recently increasing membership fees. They also recently tried to cut the daycare hours (from opening at 8AM to 8:30, and 2 hours of no coverage at noon) but got so much backlash they were forced to reconsider. There are other gyms in the area as well, including one called "the Village" opening soon, and it's surprising they tried to cut this corner, and saw they would have lost a very passionate, loyal, and dependent demographic. The whole situation was kind of sleazy, and sort of reaffirmed my overall view of them as a pretty, but flawed company from the top down. Like most gyms, they get you pretty excited to sign up and start, then you realize the wifi doesn't really work, the only tvs you can use are up on the front of the giant cardio area (8 in all), and you need to have a radio tuner on your phone to listen to the audio feed. I'm pretty tech savvy, looked into this as much as I could, and still think using a radio in this manner is next to impossible on an iPhone. I've asked several staff members how to hook up the iPhone to radio feed, and they've all passed the buck and said "there's an easy way to do it, but I don't know it, ask ..., they know this more than I do." This was repeated by many staff members. I never figured it out and now I still listen to music intrinsic to my iPhone every time I work out. I'm convinced this, as well as poor wifi, is very avoidable, but corporate just wants to save a few more bucks, and it effects the experience. Took an intro class with a personal trainer. I'm pretty independent with my workouts, just wanted a few tips, but there weren't many useful tips, just trying to sell me on more sessions that would cost money. Again, just left a bad taste. I'd also never like to hear the term "My LT Bucks" again, its so obviously a scheme to give you a little of something you don't need for free, so that you have to spend 20x more to continue that service. When we started here the designation for Tempe was a "Bronze" gym, and we were told the one is Scottsdale is "Gold" and we can choose to upgrade to use that gym and gain some luxurious options. Recently they started charging more for the Tempe branch, designated it "Gold," but it seems exactly the same to me. Not sure why I'm paying more. Again love/hate, looks great, but very rotten policies. We really just stay because my wife loves the cardio classes, and it's nice to drop my toddler off during a workout. I anticipate changing gyms at some point with some policy change that is the last straw, but for now we'll keep ourselves a little under that line. Don't appreciate the trial and error approach to gradually cutting as much as possible, followed by undoing whatever change has caused too much financial backlash. read more

I have consistently given this Tempe AZ club outstanding reviews for being clean, knowledgeable/friendly staff and a well organized facility, being a member since 2005 I think I should know a little bit about it. Overall I still believe this to be true however the men's locker room is pretty gross. The sinks are always dirty, low water pressure, drains stink and are slow. The towels are like rubbing a piece of sandpaper on your butt. The only way to accurately describe the showers is discussing and gross. Broken fixtures, soap dispenser's and showerheads. The monthly fees keep going up and the facilities are getting worse. I know Mountainside is opening a new facility on 48th street & Ray it will be something to consider. Terry read more

I've been a member at Lifetime for about 6 months and I LOVE IT (mostly). The only flaw people might find is the membership pricing can be quite steep. Other than that, it's amazing. The amenities here make lifetime a one-stop-shop. The first floor offers a hair and nail salon for both men and women, LifeTime Cafe with blended smoothies, supplements, pizzas, etc. Additionally, basketball courts, indoor and outdoor pools, and a daycare center can all be found on the first level. When you go up the stairs, you'll be greeted by a massive open floor plan that houses every exercise machine you could imagine. If you decide to embark on a personal training journey, see Germaine. Not worth the 55 dollars every month.. Staff aren't very friendly. I walked out of the bathroom with toilet paper hanging from my back side and one of them watched me walk through the entire floor and told me nothing.. I brought them so much business and never received the 50 LT bucks I was promised for each one.. I told them to freeze my membership meanwhile I was out of town I had 60 bucks left in my account to last me thru the week and they just ate it all up.. Now I get to starve. read more

If you want only one gym, a place with a pool, tennis and good cardio equipment I feel this is the best gym in the area. However you will pay double the price of an LA Fitness, (although it is kept cleaner than LA), it is not for those who do not utilize their gym membership. Why not 5 stars? Because of the maintenance, or lack of. Shower heads are ready to fall off the wall, some lockers don't lock, the light in the steam room is falling apart. Soap runs out and is not refilled at any normal speed. The bottom of the indoor pool does not get cleaned enough. Squash courts are dirty (do they ever clean them?). They run out of large towels randomly. Just the little things, this gym is terrible at the little things! If someone from Lifetime is reading this, please have corporate visit this location more often and bust some heads as this could easily be a 5 star gym. Lifetime also needs to let it's members visit another location for free. I do not like the policy of having to pay to go outside my home gym. This is a corporate owned company, not a franchise. Club is very busy and the personnel are courteous and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the cancellation policy requires you to provide a 30 day notice that you still pay for. I had a work related move to a state that Lifetime did not service and did not use a single day for the final 30 days and was still charged. It is unfortunate that an otherwise pleasant experience has been tainted by a corporate policy that puts profit above customer experience. read more

Yes! It's twice as pricey as Gold's or LA Fitness... but it's twice as awesome! You get what you pay for at Lifetime. As someone who goes to the gym over my lunch break, I couldn't ask for anything more from a gym. It's the little things; you don't need to bring a towel, soap, a locker key or lunch! The café has a nice selection of healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, kids and even smoothies and the nutrition facts are on the menu. As a vegetarian, there are several options for me to choose from. The equipment from the cardio machines to the pool is well maintained and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. After being spoiled with Lifetime for over 3 years, I honestly could never switch gyms, call me a snob ... I don't care! read more

I love this gym. Its too bad I don't live near one anymore. Lifetime is the Cadillac of gyms in AZ. It was hard going back to my ghetto LA Fitness location. Lifetime has a number of perks for its members. There is an on the spot salon for you ladies (and some of you guys too). Their café makes all sorts of healthy meals and protein shakes. What sets Lifetime apart is the option to get some rock climbing in while you have your clothes dry cleaned. This is a one spot stop for all your fitness needs. My membership ran about $50. Which is literally double my LA membership, but has double the benefits. read more

All I wanted was to play a nice game of tennis with my friend (who is a member) but I was unable to do so because we are both under 18 and my parents haven't signed this long ass form. Woohoo, As good as it gets is definitely what you get here. You get what you paid for and boy, do you get what you paid for! This gym is very addicting and if you go here a lot, you can justify the 65$ membership. Gym Overall gets a 5/5 Rating in my opinion. Customer Service can non consistent but 98% of the time, its all nice and great people. Not enough to take off a star. When there is a problem, it gets corrected. Their trainers are excellent, I highly recommend them. They charge 75$ an hour but they have specials many times, like 3 sessions for $99. Membership is $56-$65, activation fees are $20-$99. Good nice new equipment, nice pools, slides and tv, many good services and classes. LifeCafe offers amazing food although very very expensive. I recommend u just take protein shakes instead of eating here. LifeSpa is okay, I would give them a B. They are on the more expensive side though... if I do have an complaint, it's their HORRIFICLY slow website. It's very pretty but it is VERY slow sometimes, please Lifetime Corporate, do something to help your servers load pages more. Even employees at the Gym know its slow and they end up waiting for the corporate website to load. It's very frustrating. I pay almost $120 month in fees for our family of 5 but it is sooooo worth it. Just the two hours per day of free childcare for my 3 kiddos is worth it. I love the group fitness classes, the place is always clean and pretty well stocked. The cafe has yummy smoothies and the pool is lush. What else could you ask for in a gym? read more

There are much better and cheaper options for gyms in the tempe area. My biggest complaints are the lack of cleanliness and the overall condition. The lobby and general areas all look nice, but I've often found the locker rooms to be dirty. Additionally, the cardio machines are often sticky and sweaty. Gross! On the plus side, the pool is great, and it's large enough that finding a machine isn't a problem. My biggest complaint has come after I cancelled my membership. I get almost weekly calls, letters, and emails asking me to re-join. I've asked to be removed from their mailing list, but it doesn't seem to work. Somehow the message of "Leave me alone... I'm happy with my new gym" isn't getting through! read more

Awful service among mistakes made in accounting department. I joined Lifetime Fitness in Tempe a couple of months ago to mainly take yoga classes. My two step children are also enrolled in the summer program offered. Incorrect large charges were made to my account after I clearly communicated to not have my kid's summer program charged under my membership and where the charges should be allocated. The mistake was still made and I am on day 3 of waiting for nearly $500 of incorrect charges to be reversed. I ended up cancelling my membership altogether because of other debacles prior to this but the general attitude of the associates I spoke with almost made me feel like I was at fault. We have been members for approximately 1.5 years. It is expensive, but we enjoy the amenities provided and it currently meets our needs. It is certainly something I consider a splurge and wouldn't have always been willing to pay for, but it fits my budget for now. I do feel that they should include more of their programs (group fitness classes) in the cost of membership. Everything seems to have an additional cost and that gets a little old. The childcare is a big plus for us. The pool area is too; great for families. We are interested in trying out their meal prep service soon. read more
