avoid this place and check your belongings for mold! poor customer service and poor climate control units. my $1,300+ sofa and love seat got mold on them while inside unit h-63. they were only in the unit for 5 months. i've visited my unit several times the past few weeks and noticed the a/c was down or off because it was hot inside (climate controlled huh?!). i would suggest anyone that has furniture in the section i highlighted in the picture i'm providing to check their belongings, because more than likely it has mold! manager had no sympathy! i requested a refund of service because i have no shadow of a doubt, it's because of this storage unit, for the cause of the mold on my couches! manager said "he couldn't do anything about it!" poor customer service!!! now i have to get my lawyers involved. i'll be sending the store manager and lifestorage corporate a letter requesting a refund of service, since in the rental agreement states: owner shall not be libale to customer and/or customer's guests for, and customer expressly releases owner from, any losses, claims, suits, and/or damages or right of subrogation, including but not limited to those caused by fire, theft, burglary, water, rain stomrs, tornado, explosion, riot, rodents, civil disturbances, government action, insects, mildew, mold, black mold, dust, sonic boom, vehicles, unlawful entry or any other cause whatsoever, including, without limitation, claims for personal injury and property damage, whether property is stored in and enclosed or open storage space, nor shall owner be liable to customer and/or customer's guests for any personal injuries or property damage sustained by customer and/or customer's guests while on or about owner's premises. pretty much, my couches are a loss! i'm very unhappy! i'm an unsatisfied customer! read more

RATS IN UNITS I rented a storage unit from Life Storage located 2233 Franklin Dr, Mesquite, TX 75150. I rented the Unit the early part of November 2016 but didn't move my things into the unit till Nov. 30,2016. I rented the largest unit that they had because i had a 3 bedroom house with an office full of furniture plus outside furniture/appliances and a garage full of items. The evening I rented my unit I was asked by the rep if I had my own insurance or will I need their insurance. I informed Nathan that I have a renters policy with Nationwide. He asked if I had a copy of the Dec page. I informed him that I can pull it up on my phone. I pulled it up and handed him the phone. He looked at it and said, "Your good, let me make a copy of it". I asked him if he needed me to email it to him. he said no I can copy it straight from the phone. He place my phone o the screen and copied the deck page. At no time did he caution me that some policies doesn't cover certain things such as animal(rat) infestations. Nor did he mention that I need to follow up with my agent to make certain that my things would be covered in storage. I told him that I am a Cat (catastrophe) Adjuster and have a lot of nice furniture by Ashley and have to have at least 50k of insurance. I also explained to him that I have been renting storage rooms for years, given how often I have to relocate for my job. Well Jan 28th was my move out date and I had a set of individuals ( mainly family) to move me into the U-haul from storage and professional movers to move me into my new home. As we started moving my items out of the unit E25, rats started coming out of boxes. We immediately called the front office and spoke to Nathan, who told me that I need to contact my insurance company since I didn't get the optional insurance. He pretty much was like there is nothing he can do to help us, with a really nonchalant tone. I was advised that the pest control people are most likely off for the weekend but he will write up an incident report. He repeatedly asked me if I had any food in my unit and I frustratingly told him no, because I had my food with me at my daughters. I reminded him that I have been renting for years and know better than to store food. I also told him that I have never had rats in the 15 years I have been renting storage units. We were reminded that there is a fine if I left items in the unit. So my oldest brother went to Walmart and got several smoke bombs and mothballs to try to get the rats to leave the unit because we had to move the items out. We started at 8am but it was after 3pm before we finished because rats were coming out of boxes and we didn't want to get bitten. during this time another lady was moving out of 3 units and she too had rats in all 3. she also had the unit behind mines and the rats were running back n forth between our units. Her movers also took longer than they should have for the same reason. Only after she also complained to Nathan. He drive the cart down to where we were stating his manager asked that he come down to make sure we didn't store any food. I point to my unit and told him that as he can see there is nothing but furniture and personal items. Since all of my boxes were labeled, he could see what I had. I also showed him some of the damaged items that I had. He said that we could use his dumpster to discard some of my items that's damaged. He then told me that the pest control wont be out till that Monday. I called in the claim to my Insurance company who informed me that items stored in a storage unit is covered but Animal infestations or damage by animals are not. There was another lady after we loaded that went into the office with a video of rats in her unit. My oldest daughter and I contacted corporate that day to ask what provisions they had in place and was told that they will escalate my ticket to a higher level and that someone will contact me. We were forced to move most of the items into the u-haul with rats jumping out of boxes without proper protection. Also when I finally got to my movers at my house, they began moving the items out of the u-haul into their truck so that they can take all of my belongings to the landfill. rats were still coming out of boxes. They killed one and made sure the others didn't run into my new house. When I called to get a copy of my agreement from Nathan, He clams that they think that someone must have been storing lab or pet rats. My daughter has been calling to check on when corporate will follow up with me because I had been sick since I had to handle that rat infested stuff. My daughter called this morning and was told that nothing has been sent up to corporate yet. I then called and was inquiring as to why it hasn't. I was told that they we re waiting to hear from me. I told the rep that they heard from me on the 28th and the rep did see that conversation. I was assured that they will send this up to a higher level. I then get a call f read more
