Gratia seemed like a popular cafe on weekends. There were lots of customers when I got there around 1PM. We ordered Matcha Raspberry croissant ($6.75), large drip coffee and latte. Drip coffee tasted bit bitter. I had to wait in line while staff were busy helping customers. Latte was good, but Matcha Raspberry croissant was too sweet. I didn't know the washroom was at the back at the rear side. Because the cafe was very busy, there was no toilet paper when I walked into the washroom. Staff were very nice and helpful, but my personal experience was just okay. I could've got something better than Matcha Raspberry Croissant. Besides all the staff were too busy and had no time to check or clean the washroom.

You walk in and they are playing my fave music at a good volume. Lighting is great so it was nice to get work done here. They have free Wi-Fi and outlets so you can be productive. It's a hot day so I decided to get their coffee frappe which is delicious and really has the coffee kick you need first thing in the morning. Staff is friendly, the space is very clean and it's not too busy first thing in the morning. Most customers are just grabbing something to go. They also have seating in front on the outside. Can't wait to be back and try their food, cakes and pastries. Definitely a great coffee shop.

The photos online from flavor balance espresso bar convinced me to seek them out. After having a great beverage from a different small business the day prior I was excited to try here June 30th. Menus at these small shoppes offer a refreshing change from the standard places. Matchas, mistos and a "rich and decadent coffee dring with a chocolatey twist" all sounded tasty! I ordered the mocha from the kind barista. Tables and some of the regular customers filled the seats. Sadly the flavor was missing in my cup. Bland espresso and flat flavor from the chocolate was a fail for me. I wanted the "rich and decadent" to tickle my taste buds but sorrowfully they were MIA. I was left disappointed after paying for parking and $8.15 for this beverage. No offence to the cafe or the owner, this drink just wasn't for me.

Unfortunately, its quite hard to find marzipan in the lower mainland. So you can imagine that I was quite excited when I saw they had one on the menu. At first glance the chocolate drizzle on top looked too little, but it was just the right amount. The all butter croissant was perfectly flaky. I heated mine up in the toaster oven for a few mins. The amount of filling that was inside amazed me. However, it would have been more enjoyable if it was more spread out, instead of a "log" of filling. Also, after warming up the pastry, the bottom was extremely oily. So oily that it was literally dripping. The meringue on the Lemon Meringue Bar was a bit deflated and dry. The lemon flavor wasn't overly powerful. The Mango Bar, mango flavor was very mild. I would have liked to taste something a bit more prominent. Also, I didnt like thay they added so much sugar to the Graham Cracker crust. The Spumoni Bar tasted mostly of coconut, but the bar was super flavorful and tasty. The Cheesy Bar cheesecake texture was nice and light. The Fruity Bar was very tasty. Although I wouldn't say that it tasted like strawberry. I liked the crunchy texture from the white chocolate covered rice krispies. I liked the Matcha it could have used a touch more matcha, but I know not everyone likes a super strong matcha flavor. My top picks would be SpumoniBar, Matcha, and Fruity Bar. However, I feel that all of the bars could use more flavor. Additionally, I would like to note the fantastic customer service that I received. I had a dog with me and she has major separation anxiety. One of the staff members noticed us and was kind enough to offer to watch the dog while I quickly ordered inside. I would rate the croissants 4.5 stars, the bars 3.8 stars and the customer service 5 stars.

Unfortunately, I did not catch the name of the cake, but it reminded me of a Hong Kong style coconut tart with some cream filling. I also tried a bite of an almond croissant, a pistachio cheesecake and some type of pistachio filling cookie. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Service was excellent. The owner was friendly and chatted with us for a bit and explained to us the different display items. It is nice to have something different from the usual coffee chain options. Also, this is a great opportunity to try some items I do not usually see as menu items at other cafes or coffee shops. I plan to return to try the Turkish coffee on my next visit. It isn't something easy to see from the road, but there's lots of great Asian restaurant options hidden amongst that complex that seem to be always very popular. Even the ladies that walked in around the same time I did, had an incredibly hard time choosing their desserts. This is due to fact that the portions are definitely made to be shareable for a lot of their menu items and really, unless you're extremely picky on flavours, they all sound like amazing combos. I therefore opted to reduce my selection (and dessert size!) by going with a cake slice from the display (wish I could recall what it was as it seriously hit the spot) & a lovely hot beverage. The place fills up quickly but does not have that usual crazed rush one feels in other coffee shops & bakeries that are only open earlier in the days. They have various sizes of tables & it definitely felt like this was a social hub for the under 30s (again, dessert was so amazing, that I didn't even care that I felt oldest in the cafe ;) I also found it interesting with how young the crowd was in there, that people were legit visiting more than on their iPhones or laptops (maybe the lack of outlets fostered this?). They have one unique 4 seater table (tractor like) & stools that I kicked myself later for not realizing it was something to use (being a farm kid in a big city, you can imagine quickly what unexpected happiness level it was to see those tractor seat stools too). The parking is plentiful just past the cafe & there's also a parkade. The place is accessible & I even think most would be able to use the washroom with minimal challenges. There seems to be a back door towards the sidewalk but looked closed by the time I was there that late at night. I will definitely be back to enjoy solo dessert time or a good visit with friends (as I definitely would like to try some of the shareable menu items!).
