Been shopping here for a while now and it has consistently been a solid choice at a better value. A decent selection of consumables, organic options when available and the bakery section is one of the best by comparison. Better prices on almost everything. Better on produce, canned goods, dairy, frozen, beverages, deli all if it. They even have household items sections. One of the biggest noticeable differences is on coffee, most stores its over $10 to $12 or more a pound, not here its $6-$7 bucks for the same amount. Shopped here for a while now and my bill is always less at Lidl period. They have ample parking. I like the openness of this location. There is plenty of space in the aisles. It is clean and well stocked. The restrooms are very modern and always clean. The prices are reasonable. The variety and prices of their produce draws me to this store. They have a bakery section with delicious breads. This location has a great deli meat and cheese section as the others. I noticed the seafood section isn't as extensive. They have a great selection of snacks, chips and nuts. I've always said if you are planning a party, Lidl is great place to get snack/party food and items for a charcuterie board. I was asked if I needed assistance by a couple of workers. I appreciated the good customer service. While I was checking out, the cashier informed me of the price of item that he thought I may not have been aware of. I was thankful. Checkout is always a bit of stress for me because you have to bag your items yourself, but it is easier to just put your items in your cart and pull your cart to the side to bag after checking out. Lidl is Aldi without the requirement of renting your buggy for a quarter. Lidl does have an additional section of non-food items that appears to be somewhat random. As a grocery store, the selection is good and the products are decent. The wine and beer selection was better than the Aldi down the street. Now, I don't think I recognized any of the brands of wine and beer but I got some decent stuff, including a really good dark German beer. The bags at the checkout are higher cost than Aldi, of course you don't have to buy them. The store isn't very easy to get to. It is hidden back in a shopping area right off Peter's Creek. You can easily see it from Peter's Creek, but actually getting there is a little bit of a maze the first time you do it. read more

Overall super cheap grocery with the same items I would normally buy at a competitor. Not very convenient for me, but I would shop here more if I lived closer! Very clean and well organized inside. I know some people love this store and I've tried to give them a chance on multiple occasions but I always run into same problem. Long lines, one register open and at peak times!! The store is much bigger than Aldi's but it doesn't feel like it has more choices, just more rows of the same product. There are name brands here, which I don't care, but to you, that may be a plus. There is a fresh bakery section and an assortment of plants when you first walk in. That is a neat feature I suppose for a store like this. I have not been impressed with their produce. Even organic fruits and veggies have NO flavor. I also found out the hard way, that they are also not doing returns due to COVID....another BIG disappointment because their labels say they have a guarantee. My biggest frustration though is at the check out. If you purchased a large amount of groceries, and the person behind you didn't, you're basically in their way and have to hurry up and bag your food before they check out. So annoying!!!! At Aldi's they have a counter you can use to pack everything up, that is away from the register, and gives you plenty of space for people to get by. To me it's not worth the hassle to come here, even if you do save a few dollars. read more

I wasn't as impressed with Lidl as I thought I would be and I am an avid Aldi shopper. Yes, Lidl seems "nicer", it's big, well organized and it's claim to fame is that it has an in store bakery. However we found the doughnuts from that bakery to be less than impressive- in fact pretty blah. They also tout organic produce but I found it to be way less fresh than Aldi- I had a bag of lettuce turn within a day of buying it and it was dated for well after. I found it to be a tad more expensive although they do have really good sales and savings weekly and via their app on things like grass fed organic beef and organic chicken. I also found their selection to not be as great although they have a pretty impressive beer and wine selection. The staff was very personable- the guys at the register were downright funny but I think I will stick to Aldi. Two stars as in I won't make a habit of returning- 3 stars are for businesses I will defiantly return to. read more

I have to say I was impressed with this grocery store!! It's a great place to buy groceries on a budget. We love to get produce and meat from this store, and have had successes with fresh, tasty food. They also have a great flower/plant selection! I would say the only downfalls is they don't carry your standard brand grocery store items, however, they do carry the lidl brand which is extremely affordable and worthwhile (i.e. olive oil is CHEAP here). They also don't have a lot of quick grab and go food options, so you need more of a plan of what to why going in. I'm sure this is probably due to COVID and keeping costs low they always seem to be a bit understaffed with only 2 check out lines. On busy days I have waited in the line for awhile (maybe 10 minutes), and had wished there was a self check out or 10 items or less option. But overall I would recommend! read more

This is officially my new favorite grocery store! I can't believe it took me so long to finally check this place out! They have fresh groceries for super cheap. Their canned goods and frozen foods are far healthier than all other grocery stores that I can think of...just goes to show that Americans use way too many unnecessary unhealthy ingredients to process these goods to make them last just as long. They sell all kinds of random but useful stuff, ranging from snow jackets and pants to cast iron pans to makeup brushes to baking molds. You can find chocolate bars, chips, cereal, herbs, fruits, beer, wine, chicken, beef, ice cream, eggs, baked goods....they've got it all! Seriously, I cannot believe how low the prices are for such amazing items!! Just remember to bring some reusable bags, or be prepared to bring a bunch of dimes if you forget. read more

When I found that yet another store from my childhood was opening up stateside I was getting pretty excited. After Aldi's successful move across the seas, Lidl - its main competitor in its segment, apparently could not stay behind. Truth be told, I have always liked Aldi better than Lidl. Lidl does have some strong points, for example, its fresh bakery and the (much) large(r) amount of non food items. Part of the fun is checking out those limited buy items which change weekly! Like Aldi, the vast majority of products sold at Lidl are a house brand, therefore being much less expensive than those found in conventional grocery stores. I came here specifically for some European items, and to "just check it out". I was excited to find a Lidl version of the popular Kinder Bueno candy bars, but alas, they are not as good as the original. Still super tasty, though. Pros; inexpensive, faily large selection of food and pantry items, fresh bakery, no quarter needed for the shopping cart. Cons; none I can think of! Pro tip: the shelf along the windows after checkout is intended to bag your groceries. Check out, pay, move your cart to the shelf and start packing there... it keeps the lines moving and the whole check out experience will be a lot more expedient and less frustrating for all involved. read more

Incredible place. My wife and I shop here all the time. The people are kind and the bakery smells fantastic. The floors are clean and grass in the parking lot is green and well kept. Good: New build location so the parking lot is clean and well lit. Carts are all new so they don't weeble or make noise. Store is clean inside with broad aisles. Bad: I couldn't find half of what I was looking for in the store, despite the items being advertised in their flyer. There appeared to be only one person working there, so there wasn't anyone to ask for help. The bakery looked like it had some good stuff at one time, but most of the bins were empty except for crumbs. They had like a dozen checkout lines available, but only one was open with a line of people waiting. They do the Aldi pay for your bag thing, which is annoying, because you have to magically know how many bags you're going to need before paying for your order, and you have to bag your stuff yourself. So that holds up the checkout line as you're waiting for people to bag their stuff. Also like Aldi they have some oddball not-grocery stuff available for sale, like kids toys, air compressors (?), and some women's clothes. But the problem is, if you find something you like, it won't be there the next time you go looking for it. This should mean lower prices, right? But not as far as I could see. In particular the meats and produce looked questionable for the price. Prices seemed pretty high, especially with a Walmart across the street. They really need to get their act together. Vibe: Busy, wall to wall people (but its only the second weekend). New carts taking up half the isle making it really hard to enjoy shopping. Friendly, happy shoppers, happy workers. Clean: Yes Produce: Cheap, great variety. A whole bag of Brussel sprouts for 1.00!!!!! The produce was clean, crisp, and affordable beyond belief. Nowhere else can i get portabella mushrooms for a dollar. They also have a lot of frozen veggies..... Meat: Expensive, but great cuts. Chicken tenderloins were cheap as was chicken sausage, and regular sausage. Cheaper than an American grocery store, so that was good. Lots of cold cuts pre packaged: Mortadella, prosciutto, great ham, turkey... Dairy: Great cheese selection. Great ice cream selection. Lots of specials. Frozen: Chicken Tikka Masala big portion for 3.99. Lots of frozen entrees for decent prices. Bagging: No, bring your own bags. That was the only downside but you can buy bags for 99 cents. This is the reason for the loss of star. Bakery: Fresh everything, homemade in the store. Neutella Crescent for 50 cents. Begat for 45 cents. Great pricing, great quality. No complaints. Non perishables: They had grain mustard for like 99 cents. They have knock off brands that are actually the real brand for dirt cheap. You can find 75 cent tuna fish, salmon, ect there. Good selection. Parking: Decent parking, had trouble finding a spot as most of the spots were taken already by shoppers. Bathroom inside: Possibly, did not see one... I could have missed it. I wanted to check out this new grocery store to see all the hype. It is very similar to Aldi but a little bit bigger. There is a bakery located right at the front of the doors so you get a wonder smell as soon as you get in. There are several isles of groceries with all the basics. I picked up two packets of steak kabobs. Probably not my best decision I've ever made. I don't suggest getting any steak there as it was tough and incredibly fatty. The other items I got were nothing special. Make sure to bring your own bags or be prepared to purchase your own and bag your own groceries. I got the Wednesday news paper which includes the Lidl weekly sales ad. I noticed they had Mums for $2.99 each. So come Friday morning a mere 2 days after getting he sales ad I arrive at the store. I looked everywhere for the mums, no mums in sight. I ask a nice sales associate where the mums are and was told they were all sold out. What the heck!? Since that experience I don't take anything in their sales flyer any seriousness. Any rationalized business would have enough stock so that their supply in one item wouldn't vanish so quickly. This grocery chain, which is new to me, has kind of an IKEA feel to it...steel & glass building, stark painted concrete floor, tracked spot-lighting, wide aisles, you-pay-for-'em bags, etc. If you're looking for a billion items to choose from in a million categories, maybe Lidl shouldn't be your first choice. But, prices are competitive, especially so for imported and somewhat more upscale brands. I like to take my time shopping, but I do not shop very often. The atmosphere in Lidl kept saying to me, "Hurry up...choose and go." That disturbed me. However, for those who tend to shop almost daily, maybe for planned individual meals, Lidl may be your grocery paradise. In any case, take your own bags. read more

Lidl Grocery. Very modern looking store. Well lit. Parking lot was nice with plenty of room in the spaces. There were plenty of carts at the entrance, ready to go. Visited early Sunday morning before the crowd got built up. The store was very clean. No unpleasant odors anywhere. Everything was labeled, and had a price. There are no big chain brands here. Its all house brands. Similar to Aldi except worlds better. If you are looking for Campbells, its not here. Nestle, nope. What you can find is something like it, better quality, and less cost. Bring your own bags when you shop. This is the big thing. Just know this before you come and you will be fine. They do have bags but they charge for them. If everybody did then then there would be a lot less of them in ditches and land fills. This is a very green company. You bag your own groceries. Its ok. You can do it. Its time that big box chain stores come to understand that we as customers want quality, without paying a ridiculous high price for simple items. Personally, I thought the actual store layout was fine. I didnt have any problems finding anything, and there were several people working who asked if I needed any help finding things. That was great. I cant tell you how many times I go into a grocery store looking for something and cant find it. Not the case here, I found everything I wanted and then some! The bakery is at the entrance, and the items certainly looked delicious, but I didnt try any on this trip. There were doughnuts, rolls, and even fresh baked bread. They also have regular sandwich bread, which I did try, and for 79 cents it was great. Fresh, soft and had a good taste. Better than the house brand at a local big box store. The actual selection of items is large. The meats and cheeses took me a while to process, as there is a lot of it. Everything looked fresh. Prices were good. I just ate out at a popular chain steak house. A ribeye cost $24. Here at Lidl, a similar slice of meat is $7. Go do the math on that one and get back to me. There was seafood, mostly frozen, but looking at the packing and quality it looked better than most stores. I plan to try it also. Again, prices were great. Nearly every piece of steak I looked at had black angus and product of USA with a flag flying high. Already you have my business. There are a lot of sausages. Breakfast sausage was very good, again mild, fresh great taste. Others I have but havent tried yet. Cheese. There was a great selection, and I picked several to try out. Sliced swiss, was mild and just enough funk to let you know its real cheese. Mild cheddar, same. Havarti cheese was very good. As good as any popular company's signature brand. And less money. Fresh fruits and vegetables were here, great prices. Everything was fresh and looked very good. Specials were posted. 2 pound bag of vidalia onions 69 cents. Everything thats in a regular grocery store is here. I was happy with everything I purchased. People were friendly. This is a pretty neat grocery store. If my friend hadn't told me about it, I would've never thought to come here. It's well organized, bright, modern and clean. You can find fresh cheap produce, snacks, meat, chilled/frozen foods. There are also non-food supplies like clothes and stuff for your home. I regularly get brochures from them in the mail with $5 off $30 coupons. The last time I was here I also got a coupon at the cash register. You should download the app for more deals/coupons. Every time I go to this store at Lawndale, W-S, NC there is a pricing issue or quality issue. Milk half spoiled due to cooler not being kept cool enough or shut by customers. Pricing in weekly flyers are never what the computers have in the store. You would think a good foreign company would be more efficient than this. Prices are never corresponding to the checkout prices. I gave it another try and the cheese prices are the ones that broke me. Don't advertise something you aren't going to honor the prices on. Will never set foot in there again. Aldi and Walmart will get my business from now on. read more

I am usually over in the Winston-Salem area once or twice a week, so I was waiting for Lidl to open and compare it to the rest of the competition. The first thing is to understand is their business model which is basically the same as their #1 world-wide competitor Aldi. Then you can appreciate Lidl. So, as you read the reviews, I would discount any review that complains about having to bag your own groceries or a prevalence of private-label. That is their business model and how they keep prices low. If it is beneath you to bag your own groceries, or you are too good to use private label products or don't like Aldi, then go somewhere else and quit your kvetching. The store is open, wide aisles, clean and with good signage. You can basically get what you need here. The bakery is a great addition and the beer/wine selection more extensive than their competitor Aldi and the store is bigger. I understand from reading in the business press that they plan to make their U.S. stores bigger (like this one) with a 20K sf foot print than their European stores. While they have their own private label brands, I noticed quite a few national brands across many product lines at competitive prices. Many retailers have their own private label brands and cutting out the middleman distributor keeps prices lower. The produce selection is great and many of the items you can bag and weigh yourself rather than take a pre-packaged quantity. That's great for people like us with only two people at home when we do not require the jumbo sized selection (one reason we let our BJ's membership expire). They also seem to have more higher-end products in certain categories than their competition - we saw that in wines and prepackaged meats and cheeses. My wife and I talked about bringing a small cooler with us next time as we live an hour away. The international selections are a bit spotty. We did not notice as many Hispanic products, but they were featuring many Greek-style products when we were here this past Monday. However, I'm not familiar with their layout having only been there once. I have to be in the area next week, so I'll bring the weekly shopping list and see how that goes. We're supposed to be getting a Lidl sometime in the next year in Burlington, so we are looking forward to it. For those of you wanting great prices in groceries, keep your eye on the local business journals and press. For those of us in NC, ti will only get better as more competition is moving into the state. Publix has moved in from the south and expanding and Wegman's from NY is eyeing NC next. I would have to say I do like it better for the fact you do not have to remember a quarter for a cart like aldi. You do have to remember you bags or purchase some when checking out. Another NC location and it has all the international products I love in Lidl. Every week they feature a country like Italy or France or Greece and you can get the best selection of authentic meats and cheeses and spreads. The bakery always grabs your attention because it is the first thing you see and is at the forefront of the Lidl shopping experience. My favorite are the German pretzels for 69 cents. You pick a bag, type in the PUC and add your price tag. They also have a 4-step bread slicer and the German sourdough is my favorite. I worked calling on grocery stores for 30 years, and seen some really poor treatment of customers, but this was right with the worst. Will someone in the bakery section please address the gnats and flies in the products display cases?! I went to Lidl with my girlfriend and we came to the bakery section of the store. A glazed doughnut for $0.40? I'll take a half dozen! Except I didn't because there at least three times as many fruit flies INSIDE the case with the doughnuts. Even the muffins and croissants weren't spared from the presence of the little winged buggers. I wanted to talk to a bakery employee about the situation but nobody was there, and apparently nobody even cared. I'd like to think the best way to encourage a sale of baked goods would be to make sure that the items were kept in a clean place under the scrutiny of watchful employees. But none of that was happening. The pastries were put out and left to whatever in the world would claim them; and unfortunately for Lidl, it turned out to be a cloud of flying insects instead of a customer like me who was willing to pay money to satisfy my sweet-tooth. read more

Pro Excellent European specialty and gourmet foods at discount supermarket prices. Their "regular foods" are always fresh and competitively priced. I love the freshly baked shop of real German pretzel rolls, Broetchen rolls and French still hot baguettes. Con Not fond of their check out registers/counter. Rushes everything and everyone is in everybody's way. Much too narrow. Then I go over to the counter at the window and start all over again. Aldi solved that problem much so much better. Lidl is pretty much like a bigger version of Aldi. The prices for most of the items are typical. You can find a bunch of international items here. Just don't expect a wide range of variety though. Great store BUT expect to find EMPTY SHELVES during their weekly sales. Stocking shelves, especially during a sale, is a no-brainer, and Lidl falls short BIG TIME when it comes to keeping their shelves stocked during their sale periods. For example...they had a weekend only sale for approx 6-10 items. I arrived on Saturday morning at 11am and EVERYTHING on sale was sold out - BARE EMPTY SHELVES. Not sure if Lidl or GREEDY IGNORANT shoppers are to blame...probably both. Remember people, don't dump entire aisles worth of sales goods into your shopping cart. I have been to the store 5 times now. The store is clean, organized and easy to navigate. It is a little different than other stores so it may take some looking to find the items you need. I am giving this store 2 stars because 2 out of 5 visits products rang up incorrect. I would reccomend using caution if your buying sale items. The first issue was buying the mild Italian sausage. The mild was on sale while the hot was normal price. They both rang up full price. It was politely pointed out to the clerk who had to call another associate to help. It took over 15 minutes and nobody really seemed to know how to get it done. The second was on whole chickens on sale for $.69 per pound. Normal price was $.95 per pound. The register rang up the price per pound correct but I noticed when I got home that each chicken rang up 2 pounds 1 ounce more that they actually weighed. USE CAUTION! I called corporate customer care and ended up speaking to 3 people. Amazing to me nobody apologized for the issue or offered a solution until the very end (about 20 min). They said they would send me a $10 gift card for the trouble. I am not saying do not shop there I am just recommending that you check your prices while they are being rang up. Worst experience ever!!! Never had a problem before until now!! The short white guy, wasn't wearing a name tag and had rough look blonde/brown hair was the cashier. It was my turn to be checked out and instead of checking me out, he rung up someone else's item for a price check, even though they were unloading they're cart to be checked out. So, he made me wait to price check and item, that they even said could wait!!! Wow, I thought what was that for ?? Why did he do that and then proceeded to ignore me and have a conversation with the customers behind me. After I paid was the only time he actually spoke to me.They were out of a lot of things, nothing was rotated and I had to going digging through the boxes. Please don't look like you need anything because every worker looked the other way. The only worker that spoke, was this little brown skin girl with honey blonde braids. Not sure what the big deal is here. Organics are priced super high, other that that its a cross between Family Dollar and a Convenience store. Who wants a tiny grocery store that sells off brand power washers and only one brand of everything (their brand).
